DAK PRESCOTT (3 TDS), COWBOYS HAND EAGLES’ FIFTH STRAIGHT LOSS
Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes, Javonte Williams ran for a career-high 155 yards and the Dallas Cowboys pulled away for a 38-21 road win Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Cowboys (3-4) snapped a two-game skid as Prescott passed for 212 yards with two TDs to CeeDee Lamb and one to George Pickens. They racked up a season-high 204 rushing yards and outgained their NFC East rivals 416-321.
The Eagles (2-5) have dropped five straight for the first time since 2016. One week after learning that Jalen Hurts was out for the season with blood clots, Philadelphia put up an early fight and briefly led in the third quarter before allowing 18 unanswered points.
Making his fourth NFL start, Tanner McKee threw for 211 yards with a touchdown to Makai Lemon and one interception. Saquon Barkley was used cautiously after missing two games with a hamstring injury, turning nine touches into 71 yards from scrimmage and a rushing score.
McKee started the second half with a 17-play, 84-yard drive that took 9:16 off the clock, capping it with a 4-yard TD toss to the rookie Lemon for a 21-20 Eagles lead.
It was all Dallas after that. Prescott floated a 16-yard touchdown pass to Lamb and then ran in the two-point conversion to put the Cowboys up 28-21 late in the third quarter — the game’s sixth lead change.
Brandon Aubrey’s third field goal from 24 yards extended the Cowboys’ cushion to 31-21 with 9:10 left in the fourth quarter, and Williams punctuated his career night with a 2-yard TD run with 2:21 remaining.
The Cowboys did not turn the ball over and won for the first time in four primetime games this season.
After Dallas opened the scoring with Aubrey’s 55-yard field goal, Philadelphia tallied its first opening-drive points of the season on Barkley’s 8-yard touchdown run. Barkley ignited the drive with a 29-yard run on his first carry since Week 4.
The Cowboys answered with Prescott’s 9-yard scoring strike to Lamb for a 10-7 lead with 5:32 left in the first quarter.
The Eagles made it 14-10 early in the second quarter on a 5-yard TD run by Dameon Pierce.
The Cowboys scored the next 10 points for a 20-14 lead at intermission. Prescott fired a 21-yard scoring dart to Pickens and Aubrey added a 27-yard field goal on the final play of the half.

ONLY THE SHAKY VIKINGS ARE UNDEFEATED AFTER DEPLETED 49ERS LOSE AND CHIEFS GET DOMINATED
Brock Purdy and the 49ers couldn’t overcome all the injuries one more time. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs ran into the defending Super Bowl champions and their stingy defense.
Only the Minnesota Vikings remain unbeaten — for now — and they battled to beat the Colts.
Sunday kicked off with Aaron Rodgers leading the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 16-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints in the NFL’s first regular-season game in France. It ended with the Seahawks shutting down Mahomes, Kenneth Walker III and the Chiefs in Seattle in a 20-3 victory.
Despite a slew of injuries, San Francisco opened the season 6-0. But the 49ers wasted a 14-3 lead in a 29-20 loss at Atlanta. The Niners didn’t have their top five receivers, including Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel Sr. They lost Christian McCaffrey for part of the game. Still, they had the ball and an opportunity to drive for the go-ahead score until Purdy threw his second interception near midfield down by six with under three minutes left. The Falcons scored 13 points on San Francisco’s four turnovers.
“We had the momentum, we were moving the ball well, I feel like we were running the ball really well offensively and then all of the sudden it’s like a couple plays make you feel like dang, we’re not doing our job,” Purdy said. “Obviously, the most important thing is protecting the football. That’s really the number one thing in our organization as an offense. … and so when you do have those kind of costly mistakes, it does make you feel like all right we’re not doing anything, we’re not putting up points like we need to. It starts with me at quarterback and I think it bleeds into everybody else, too.”
The Niners get a week off to rest and recover before hosting Las Vegas (3-4) on Nov. 8.
The Chiefs (5-1) already had their bye week so they have to fix their problems quickly with a matchup for first place in the AFC West coming up next Sunday at Denver (5-2).
Seattle’s “Dark Side” defense held Walker to 36 yards rushing on 14 carries in his first game against his former team. The Super Bowl MVP entered Week 7 leading the NFL in rushing and had four 100-yard games in the first five.
Mahomes only completed 57.6% of his passes and didn’t guide Kansas City’s offense into the red zone for the first time in his career.
“You don’t want to perform like this in prime time in a big moment like this,” Mahomes said.
So the Vikings (6-0) are the last undefeated team in the league. But they need to improve a shaky offense to stay perfect.
Minnesota rallied for a 16-10 victory over Indianapolis thanks to another stellar effort from the defense, which held the Colts to just 218 yards.
Kyler Murray threw for 150 yards and the Vikings had just 275 total yards.
“You can’t get down on it right now, just because it’s still relatively early enough that we’re catching our stride,” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said. “But at the same time, we know, with the type of teams that are going to be on our schedule the rest of the way and where we want to go with this team, we’ll keep progressing.”
The Vikings have a difficult stretch coming up. They visit the Lions (4-2) next week, host the Bills (5-1) and then face the Packers (4-3) and 49ers in back-to-back games on the road. They need more production on offense to stay on top in a tough NFC North that includes four teams with a winning record.
One of those teams almost gave a game away because of reckless play-calling. Lions coach Dan Campbell pulled a Barry Switzer and went for a fourth-and-1 at his 24 with the score tied and just under five minutes to go.
Jahmyr Gibbs was stopped for a 2-yard loss and the Packers took over at Detroit’s 22 but couldn’t go anywhere. Trey Smack’s 35-yard field goal was blocked, and the Lions drove for a winning field goal to save Campbell from another week of criticism for his questionable decisions.
Campbell cost the Lions a shot to play in the Super Bowl after two critical failed attempts on fourth down in field-goal range in the second half of a 34-31 loss in the NFC championship game in 2024.
His decision was reminiscent of Switzer twice going for a fourth-and-1 at the Cowboys 29 with just under two minutes left in a tie game at Philadelphia in 1995. Emmitt Smith was stopped on the first try but officials said the clock had run down to the two-minute warning. After the stoppage, Dallas ran the same play, Smith was stopped again and the Eagles drove for the winning field goal.
“Well, I thought we would get it, No. 1. I really believed we would get that,” Campbell said. “No. 2, I knew we would get the ball back if it didn’t work out. And those were the key thoughts.”
Sometimes, it’s better to be lucky than wise.

OREGON QB DANTE MOORE (CONCUSSION) EXPECTED TO MISS REST OF SEASON
Projected to be one of the top picks in the 2026 NFL Draft before returning to Oregon for his senior season, quarterback Dante Moore is expected to miss the rest of the season because of a concussion.
Ducks coach Dan Lanning made the announcement Monday regarding the preseason Heisman Trophy contender, who has missed the past three games because of a concussion suffered Sept. 26 against Southern California. Moore has not been medically cleared to return.
“If it was up to Dante in any shape, way, he would be out there playing for the guys,” said Lanning, whose team was ranked No. 2 in the AP preseason poll. “This isn’t a selfish decision on Dante’s part, saying, ‘I don’t want to come back, the season doesn’t look the way I want it to look.’ That’s not at all what this is.”
Moore was injured in the second quarter of the game against USC on a late hit by linebacker Desman Stephens II. He was eventually transported by ambulance to Los Angeles General Medical Center. Oregon said Moore’s MRI and CT scans came back clean, but he did sustain a concussion.
Entering the Sept. 26 game, Moore was off to an impressive start, throwing for 926 yards, nine touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 69.7% of his passes.
Moore has thrown the ball in recent weeks while working his way back at practice, but Lanning and the Ducks had decided not to rush him back into action.
Oregon is 1-2 without Moore and has scored fewer than 20 points in each game. Third-string quarterback Brock Thomas and backup Dylan Raiola have shared starting duties but have been unable to replicate Moore’s success.
The Ducks’ offensive struggles led to the firing of coordinator Drew Mehringer on Sunday, a day after a 21-10 loss to Illinois.
On Monday night, Lanning announced that offensive analyst and quarterbacks coach Jay Johnson would take over playcalling duties. Johnson, in his first season at Oregon, has been a college coach since 1994 and previously served as offensive coordinator at Wyoming and Michigan State.
After beginning his college career at UCLA in 2023, Moore transferred to Oregon and spent the entire 2024 season backing up starter Dillon Gabriel. In 2025, Moore threw for 30 touchdowns and 3,565 yards while completing 71% of his passes as Oregon finished 13-2.

INDIANA PACERS
The Pacers suffered their first road loss of the season on Monday night in Milwaukee, falling to the Bucks on the second night of a back-to-back, 110-102.
Indiana (2-2) was undermanned and without two starters, but still led by 11 at halftime. But the Bucks (1-3) outscored the Blue & Gold 60-41 in the second half to come away with the victory.
Tyrese Haliburton led Indiana with 22 points, six rebounds, and nine assists in the loss, while All-Star forward Pascal Siakam added 20 points, 13 boards, and six assists.
Tyler Herro had 23 points, 10 boards, and seven assists to lead the Bucks to their first victory in the post-Giannis Antetokounmpo era. Milwaukee traded the two-time MVP to Miami this summer for a package that included Wisconsin native Herro.
Indiana was without starting center Ivica Zubac and starting guard Andrew Nembhard on Monday. Zubacdid not dress after spraining his left ankle in the first quarter of Sunday’s win in Brooklyn, while guard Andrew Nembhard was unavailable due to next stiffness.
The Bucks led for the majority of the opening quarter behind six early points from each of Kyle Kuzma and Herro. Obi Toppin scored eight points off the bench for Indiana to keep the Pacers within striking distance.Haliburton’s layup just before the first quarter buzzer trimmed Milwaukee’s lead to 31-29.
The Blue & Gold reeled off six consecutive baskets at the start of the second quarter to surge ahead. Jay Huff’s transition dunk capped a 9-0 run to open the frame and subsequent threes by Haliburton and Huff pushed Indiana’s lead to eight.
Indiana went 6-for-11 from 3-point range in the second quarter, outscoring Milwaukee 32-19 in the frame. Siakam’s jumper in the closing seconds of the first half gave the visitors a 61-50 lead at halftime.
The Pacers put on a dunk show in the third quarter. First, Haliburton found a cutting Huff who threw down a right-hand slam on Kyle Kuzma’s head. The very next possession, Haliburton missed a three, but Toppin flew it for a two-hand putback dunk. Just over a minute later, Haliburton connected with Huff for another emphatic dunk, then threw it ahead to Kelly Oubre Jr. for a breakaway jam.
But the Bucks rallied, as Kuzma and Herro knocked down threes and Ryan Rollins converted a layup to cap an 8-0 Milwaukee run to tie the game at 71. Milwaukee briefly took the lead a short while later on a Herro bucket, but Indiana countered with a 9-2 run.
The Bucks came right back and reeled off seven unanswered points, taking an 84-82 lead on rookie Nate Ament’s 3-pointer with 46.6 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Haliburton answered with a three of his own on the other end to give the Pacers a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The hosts moved ahead early in the final frame on an Ament slam. Ament and Kel’el Ware scored four points apiece as the Bucks opened the fourth quarter with a 10-1 spurt to open up an eight-point lead.
Indiana had whittled the deficit down to 101-98 and looked primed to get in even closer when Jarace Walker stole the ball from Herro and raced ahead. But former Pacers center Myles Turner chased down Walker to block his shot off the rim. That was the closest Indiana would get the rest of the night.
Toppin had 14 points and six rebounds in the loss for Indiana. Aaron Nesmith added 13 points while going 3-for-7 from 3-point range. Walker was the fifth and final Pacer to reach double figures, finishing with 10 points and seven boards.
Rollins had 19 points and four assists for Milwaukee, Kuzma added 17 points and seven rebounds, and Ware had a rebound off the bench with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
The Pacers will return to Indianapolis to host Philadelphia on Wednesday. Indiana then heads to Miami for their first NBA Cup game on Friday before returning to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for back-to-back games against Brooklyn and Atlanta on Nov. 1 and 2.
Inside the Numbers
Siakam recorded his first double-double of the season on Monday. He has scored 20 or more points in all four games so far this season.
Toppin has scored in double figures off the bench in all four games this season.
Walker scored nine of his 10 points in the first half, reaching double figures for the first time this season.
Milwaukee outrebounded Indiana 61-48 overall and 16-14 on the offensive glass. The Bucks scored 24 second-chance points to the Pacers’ eight.
Turner scored just six points on 2-of-7 shooting, but tallied nine rebounds, four assists, four blocks, and a steal against his former team.
You Can Quote Me On That
“Didn’t play well enough and didn’t get enough rebounds to get anything going. We had some pretty good looks that didn’t go down, but it wasn’t simply a case of make or miss. We’ve got to retrieve the ball when it comes off the board.” — Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle on the difference in the second half
“We needed better energy in the second half. We had the advantage of playing a team on a back-to-back last night and tonight we were the ones that needed to find a way [on the second night of a back-to-back]…But they played a really good second half, so you’ve got to give Milwaukee credit.” — Carlisle on the Pacers’ second-half struggles
Stat of the Night
The Bucks outscored the Pacers 60-41 after halftime as Indiana shot just 31.9 percent from the field and 3-for-22 (13.6 percent) from 3-point range in the second half.
Noteworthy
The Pacers have lost six straight regular season games against the Bucks and five straight regular season contests at Fiserv Forum.
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle told reporters prior to Monday’s game that fourth-year guard Ben Sheppard stayed back in New York rather than traveling with the team to Milwaukee and is scheduled to have surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
Pacers rookie two-way guard Braden Smith was active and made his NBA debut at the end of Monday’s contest, checking in for the final 18 seconds.
Up Next
The Pacers return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Oct. 28, to host LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers.

INDIANA FOOTBALL
QB JOSH HOOVER EXPECTED TO PLAY SATURDAY
Indiana coach Curt Cignetti said Monday he expects quarterback Josh Hoover to start and deliver a better performance when the fourth-ranked Hoosiers host Minnesota on Saturday.
Hoover played through a right arm injury last weekend at Michigan and he didn’t look the same.
The former TCU star was just 8 of 18 for 81 yards with no touchdowns and threw his first interception of the season. Hoover scored the winning touchdown on a 4-yard run in overtime to give Indiana its first victory at Michigan, 13-6, since 1967. It’s also the first time the Hoosiers have won two straight in the series since 1958-59.
Clearly, though, Hoover was not himself.
“I expect him to be fine and better this week,” Cignetti said Monday. “Quite frankly, in practice last week, the pass game, we weren’t very good, and I expect it to be better this week.”
Hoover was injured during the second half of the Hoosiers’ previous game, a 19-15 loss to then-No. 4 Ohio State. He left briefly, returned and nearly rallied the Hoosiers (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter. The loss ended a 22-game winning streak and a 19-game home winning streak, the two longest active streaks in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Last weekend’s win allowed Indiana to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time in Cignetti’s three seasons in Bloomington. Following the game, Hoover downplayed the impact the injury had against the Wolverines.
Cignetti acknowledged the game plan called for a more run-heavy offense against the Wolverines and coaches considered pulling Hoover and going with seventh-year quarterback Grant Wilson. But they decided against it, and Hoover delivered with a 21-yard pass to Charlie Becker on the first play of overtime to set up his winning score. The defense then stopped Michigan to preserve the victory.
“It was a tough week,” Hoover said Saturday. “This is a tough league and that’s something everybody goes through. I think people sometimes don’t understand what it looks like to come out here and play every single week. There’s going to be weeks you don’t feel good, but at the end of the day, I love this team, I love these guys. I had to battle through some things this week to get out here (Saturday), and I knew I was going to find a way to get out here and find a way to win this game for this team regardless of how I feel.”
Cignetti expects nothing less from his quarterback against the Golden Gophers (5-2, 3-1), who have won four of five but suffered their only loss during that stretch — a 41-13 drubbing at Purdue — on their first trip to the state of Indiana this season. He also expects his receivers to give Hoover more help.
“We didn’t separate at receiver in this game,” Cignetti said Monday. “And we obviously didn’t throw the ball very well or often and a lot of that was because of the type of game it became.”
Hoover threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to rally the Hoosiers from a two-score deficit at Nebraska in Week 6 and suffered a cut nose in the season opener when a defensive player yanked his face mask in his first start at Indiana. Hoover is the successor to last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, Fernando Medoza, and has not missed a game this season.

INDIANA VOLLEYBALL
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A grueling run through the month of October will end this weekend with a pair of contests at No. 25 Michigan State (Oct. 30) and Michigan (Oct. 31). Following these matches, IU will have played seven of 10 contests on the road during the month. That includes trips to the furthest teams east (Rutgers) and west (Oregon) in the entire conference.
Through 10 games of Big Ten play, the Indiana volleyball team (12-7, 5-5 Big Ten) finds itself firmly in the middle of the conference standings. The final seven games of the regular season will be all about positioning as the inaugural Big Ten Tournament inches closer. IU will get four of its final seven games at Wilkinson Hall, beginning on November 6th against Iowa.
IU will need its block to continue playing at a high level over the final four weeks of the regular season. In conference play this season, the Hoosiers are third (2.64 blocks per set) in net defense. That includes fifth-year middle blocker Kiki Granberry (1.41 bps) and third-year middle blocker Ella Boersema (1.00 bps) who have become dominant blocking forces. Fifth-year opposite hitter Avry Tatum (32 blocks) has added to a physical team.
Second-year middle blocker Victoria Gray has been a spark offensively for IU during conference play. She’s among the top hitters in the league with 1.74 kills per set at a .474 hitting percentage. Tatum (3.00 kills per set) and second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager (3.42 kills per set in Big Ten) are a formidable duo on the pins. As a team, IU is hitting .256 in Big Ten play this year.
Friday’s game at Michigan State is set for a 6 p.m. first serve. It’s IU’s final national television game of the regular season. The Hoosiers will move over to Ann Arbor on Saturday to take on Michigan at 7 p.m. on B1G+. IU is 10-5 on the road in Big Ten play over the last two seasons.

TALLYING WINS: Since the 2022 campaign (four-plus years), Indiana has racked up 89 wins under head coach Steve Aird. That includes at least 15 wins in each full season during that stretch. IU will be looking to reach that plateau again for the fifth-straight year in 2026.
TOUGH TESTS: IU has, or will play, 13 of the teams in the top 30 of this week’s NCAA RPI rankings. It has been a stiff test for the Hoosiers this year. On that note, IU has quality wins over Washington (14), UCLA (17) and Texas A&M (25) that has kept the team at No. 22 in the RPI ratings.
STEADY AS IT COMES: Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager reached double-digit kills in a pair of matches against Ohio State and Penn State last week. She’s had at least 10 kills in 22 of her 30 career Big Ten matches. That includes eight of IU’s 10 conference games this season.
BIG BLOCKS: During Big Ten action, IU has been the third best blocking team (2.64 blocks per set) in the entire conference. The Hoosiers went on a run of three-straight Big Ten games with double-digit blocks (Oct. 16-23) last week, the first time that’s happened since the 2018 campaign.
VIC STEPS UP: Second-year middle blocker Victoria Gray has been on a tear in Big Ten play this year. She’s 3rd third in the league in hitting percentage (.474) in conference games only. That includes a nine-kill effort against Ohio State (zero errors) last week. She returns to her home state of Michigan this week for a pair of games.
RANKED WINS: Head coach Steve Aird and IU have a pair of ranked victories this year. He has now guided the program to 11 wins against AVCA opponents. If he is able to take down Michigan State this week, he will match the program record for ranked wins (12) by a head coach.
HITTING HARD: The Hoosiers are attacking at a .259 clip this season as a team, a top 10 mark in the Big Ten on the year. That mark currently ranks second in program history in a single season, only behind last year’s school record mark of .281. IU has hit above .300 on seven occasions this year.
Scouting the Opponent
Michigan State (17-3, 7-3 Big Ten)
• After a breakout season in Kristen Kelsay’s first year, Michigan State is firmly setup for a return to the NCAA Tournament. Setter Malayah Long is averaging 10.34 assists per set and running a potent (.291) and balanced offense. Outside hitter Alanna Bankston’s 3.70 kills per set lead the team.
• Middle blockers Zora Hardison (.399 hitting percentage) and Carmen Waye (.426 hitting percentage) are lethal out of the middle when the Spartans pass at a high level. On top of that, Michigan State’s 144 service aces are amongst the top in the league. The Spartans average 2.58 blocks per set at the net.
Michigan (13-8, 4-6 Big Ten)
• The Wolverines are coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance last season and have the path to get back there for a second-straight season. Michigan runs a 6-2 offense with setters Morgan Burke and Camille Edwards sharing the duties out of the back row. Outside hitter Ella Demetrician is the top offensive option at 4.14 kills per set.
• Opposite hitter Cymarah Gordon has taken a massive jump forward with 3.30 kills per set on a .310 hitting percentage. When in system, middle blocker Jenna Hanes offers up 1.39 kills per set and a .422 hitting percentage. Libero Meredith Martin averages 4.03 digs per set.
Inside the Series
Michigan State
• The Spartans hold a commanding 54-35 edge in the all-time series including a 32-9 mark in East Lansing. IU has made up some ground in the last five years, having won five of the last six games.
• These two teams have only played nine times under head coach Steve Aird, tied for the lowest number of matchups of any Big Ten (Minnesota) program (not including the west coast schools.
Michigan
• IU leads the all-time series with a 47-43-1 mark, one of three Big Ten legacy schools (Iowa, Northwestern) that the program has a winning mark against. The Hoosiers have won five-straight games since 2022, including all four against current head coach Erin Virtue. IU has won three-straight matchups in Ann Arbor (2022, 2023 and 2025).

GAMEDAY INFORMATION — EXHIBITION GAME 03
Purdue (0-0, 0-0 B1G) at [4] Connecticut (0-0, 0-0 Big East)
Tuesday, October 27, 2026 | 7 p.m. ET
Hartford, Conn. | PeoplesBank Arena (15,495)
STREAM: UConnHuskies.com (PPV: $9.95)
RADIO: Purdue Global Radio Network (Rob Blackman, Bobby Riddell)
THE SCENE SETTER
• After topping two in-state mid-major opponents in the first two exhibition games, Purdue steps up in weight class for its final exhibition battle, traveling to Hartford, Connecticut, to take on No. 4-ranked Connecticut. It marks the final exhibition game of the year before the Boilermakers open the season in the TNT Sports Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas against Gonzaga on opening night.
• Although not an official game, it marks the first meeting between Purdue and UConn since the 2024 National Championship game. The squads are among the most successful in college basketball over the last four seasons, combining for a 243-60 (.802) record during that span.
• Purdue has good memories in Hartford, Connecticut, last playing in the arena in the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The Boilermakers defeated Old Dominion (61-48) and defending National Champion Villanova (87-61), advancing the Sweet 16. Carsen Edwards averaged 34.0 points in the two games, including a 42-point explosion with nine 3-pointers against the Wildcats.
BOILER NOTES
• Purdue owns a 73-10 record all-time in exhibition games, but is just 3-3 against collegiate teams in exhibition games. With wins over Purdue Fort Wayne and Ball State, the Boilermakers snapped a three-game exhibition losing skid to Division I teams. Purdue had lost to No. 14 Arkansas in Oct. 2023 (81-77), No. 15 Creighton in Oct. 2024 (93-87) and No. 9 Kentucky in Oct. 2025 (78-65).
• Matt Painter is 33-3 as the Purdue coach in exhibition games, but just 1-3 in road games.
• Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Purdue is 28-7 against in-state schools (D-I only), including 15-1 in Mackey Arena. The record balloons to 35-7 and 22-1 if you include exhibition games against all in-state foes.
• Purdue leads the series with UConn by a 4-2 margin, but haven’t beaten the Huskies since Glenn “Big Dog” Robinson scored 30 points with nine rebounds to lead the Boilermakers over the 16th-ranked Huskies 73-69 on Nov. 29, 1982. Matt Painter had six points and five assists in that contest.
• Purdue freshman Luke Ertel and UConn sophomore Braylon Mullins waged memorable battles in high school and were grassroots teammates with Indiana Elite, growing up in Hancock County. Ertel’s Mount Vernon team topped Mullins’ Greenfield Central squad in a memorable sectional battle on March 9, 2025, with an 83-76 overtime decision. Mullins scored 38 points, while Ertel had 36 in the win. The pair are the last two Indiana Mr. Basketball recipients (Mullins 2025; Ertel 2026).
• Purdue returns just 41 starts (21.0 percent from last year) and 34.6 percent of its scoring from last year’s team that posted a 30-9 overall record. During the Matt Painter era, Purdue has returned under 40 percent of its starters from the previous year five previous times, posting a combined 118-55 record while winning the Big Ten regular-season championship the last two times it happened (2019, 2023).
• Purdue was third among “others receiving votes” in the preseason AP Top 25 poll, ending a streak of 79 straight weeks ranked in the AP Top 25. The streak had been the second longest in the country and longest in school history. Since March 1, 2021, Purdue has been ranked in 101 of the last 104 AP Top 25 polls. Two of the three weeks the Boilermakers were unranked were from preseason polls (2022-23; 2026-27). In 2022-23, the last time Purdue was unranked in the preseason, Purdue rose to No. 1 in the country just five weeks later.
• For the first time since the 2014-15 season, Purdue did not have a player named on the preseason All-Big Ten Team.
• Matt Painter (501) is just 12 wins from passing his mentor and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Gene Keady (512) on the school’s all-time wins list with 513. The earliest that Painter could pass Keady would be Dec. 11, vs. Tennessee.
• With Painter reaching 500 wins last season against Miami, Fla., in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Purdue became the second school in NCAA history to have two coaches with 500 victories (Kansas – Bill Self, Phog Allen).

PURDUE WRESTLING
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue is set to open its 107th season of wrestling when it hosts Kent State for a dual on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Holloway Gymnasium.
Amazingly, it will be the wrestling team’s first regular season opener at home since Dec. 3, 1960.
Head coach Tony Ersland enters his 13th season with 99 career wins and has the chance to secure his 100th in front of Purdue’s home crowd on Sunday. He announced a reshuffling of his staff last month after the departure of longtime head assistant coach Leroy Vega.
Jake Sueflohn, entering his 11th season with the Boilermakers, was elevated to the head assistant role. Collin Purinton was hired from North Dakota State to be an assistant coach, and Brian Anderson and Matt Ramos swapped job titles. Anderson is now an assistant coach alongside Purinton while Ramos takes on the role of director of player personnel.
The Purdue wrestling roster is the youngest it has been since the 2006-07 season, with 19 of the 30 wrestlers entering just their first or second seasons of college wrestling. Only two Boilermakers are entering their final seasons of eligibility: Brody Baumann (174 pounds) and Gavin Brown (149).
The program did away with redshirt designations this season for the sake of simplifying due to the NCAA’s new five-for-five rules. Going forward, all college student-athletes receive five years of eligibility whether or not they compete in a full varsity season. If a wrestler was a redshirt sophomore last year, they are listed as a senior this season since it is their fourth year. The designations are as such: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Fifth Year (or Graduate Student).
This is Part 1 of a three-part roster preview, taking a look at the lower weights (125 to 141 pounds). Part 2 (149-165) will be released Tuesday and Part 3 (174-285) will release Wednesday.

NOTRE DAME WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Former Notre Dame women’s basketball All-American Skylar Diggins has been hired as an outside consultant serving as the Special Advisor to Karen & Kevin Keyes Family Head Women’s Basketball Coach Niele Ivey, the program announced Monday.
Diggins will advise Ivey and her coaching staff and serve as an off-the-floor mentor to student-athletes focusing on leadership, personal development and brand building. She will depart to join her team when the 2027 Unrivaled season begins.
A South Bend native, Diggins returns to Notre Dame following her 12th WNBA season, where she averaged 16.3 points and 5.3 assists throughout her career. A seven-time WNBA All-Star and five-time USA Basketball gold medalist, she most recently captured Olympic gold with Team USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“We are honored to welcome Skylar Diggins as our Special Advisor to the Head Coach!” Ivey said. “This is truly a legendary addition. In this new role, Skylar will help elevate our program through her leadership, expertise and unique perspective as both a former student-athlete and accomplished professional.
“Skylar’s loyalty and commitment to the University have been unmatched. Her ability to motivate, elevate, and inspire our student-athletes will strengthen our culture, enhance our team, and create meaningful opportunities for growth and development.
“Her impact will extend far beyond the game, helping shape the next generation of student-athletes and continuing to build a legacy of excellence within our program. Welcome home, Skylar!”
One of the greatest players in Notre Dame women’s basketball history, Diggins led the Fighting Irish to three consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances from 2011-13, including back-to-back national championship game appearances in 2011 and 2012. During her four-year career from 2009-13, she helped Notre Dame compile 130 victories. Diggins earned consensus first-team All-America honors in both her junior and senior seasons, was named BIG EAST Player of the Year twice (2012, 2013) and captured the Nancy Lieberman Award as the nation’s top point guard in consecutive seasons. She also received the inaugural Dawn Staley Award in 2013.
Diggins finished her Notre Dame career with 2,357 points, 745 assists, 557 rebounds and 381 steals. She graduated as the program’s all-time leader in points and steals while setting or sharing 32 school records. Her 144 career starts and 121 double-figure scoring performances were both program records at the time of her graduation.
A three-time NCAA Regional Most Outstanding Player, Diggins helped the Irish capture consecutive BIG EAST regular-season championships in 2012 and 2013, along with the program’s first BIG EAST Tournament title in 2013. She was selected third overall by the Tulsa Shock in the 2013 WNBA Draft, matching the highest draft selection in program history at the time.
#################
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Reigning Nancy Lieberman Award winner Hannah Hidalgo has been named one of 20 players to the award’s watch list ahead of her senior season, which honors the nation’s best collegiate point guard, as the Merchantville, New Jersey native continues to cement her status as one of the nation’s elite players.
Hidalgo became the second player in program history to win the Nancy Lieberman Award last season, joining Skylar Diggins, who earned the honor in back-to-back seasons in 2012 and 2013.
Already named an AP Preseason All-American and the Preseason ACC Player of the Year earlier this month, Hidalgo put together one of the most statistically dominant seasons in college basketball history a year ago. She led the ACC in scoring at 25.3 points per game and the nation in steals at 5.6 per game, while averaging 6.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per contest. She is the only men’s or women’s college basketball player this century to average at least 25 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals per game. Her 202 steals set an NCAA single-season record.
Hidalgo has also joined an exclusive group of four major-conference players this century to record at least 2,000 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists and 400 steals in a career: Alana Beard (Duke), Shernise Johnson (Miami) and Armintie Price (Ole Miss). Hidalgo is the first to reach those milestones before completing her junior season.
Notre Dame opens the season with an exhibition against Truman State on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. ET inside Purcell Pavilion before beginning the regular season against Villanova at noon ET on Nov. 1 at the Eternal City Tip-Off in Rome.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 13th-ranked Notre Dame women’s basketball team cruised to a 125-59 exhibition win over Truman State Monday night inside Purcell Pavilion in a preseason tuneup before heading to Rome later this week.
The Irish were on fire from the field from tip to the final buzzer, making 52 shots on a 61.9% percentage, including 12-of-23 from beyond the arc. The Irish scored 74 points in the paint, forcing 27 Wildcat turnovers that led to 46 points.
Six Irish finished in double figures, led by Hannah Hidalgo’s 33 points. Leah Macy added 22, while Jenica Lewis scored 21 and Jacy Abii chipped in 20. Madison St. Rose contributed 14 points and Amiyah Byles rounded out the group with 11 off the bench.
Macy stuffed the stat sheet in her Irish debut, finishing with 22 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and four steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Notre Dame opened up the game on fire from the field. After missing their first shot of the game, the Irish knocked down ten consecutive shots, led by a perfect five-of-five from Hannah Hidalgo, to lead 23-8 at the first break of action. The Irish drilled each of their first three from behind the arc, courtesy of Hidalgo, Jacy Abii and Jenica Lewis.
Notre Dame ended the opening quarter shooting a blistering 69.6% from the field, in large part due to a heavy offensive attack in the paint. The Irish scored 26 points in the first quarter in the painted area, finishing 13/15 on layups in the opening frame. Notre Dame led 37-16 after one, with Hidalgo leading the way with 15 points and Abii behind her with seven of her own.
Lewis knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to extend the Irish lead to 50-20 midway through the second quarter. The baskets highlighted a 13-4 Notre Dame run to open the period, with the Irish connecting on five of their first nine attempts from beyond the arc. Lewis was the second Notre Dame player in double figures with 11.
With 1:14 remaining in the second quarter, Leah Macy banked in a layup to reach nine points, capping an impressive first half in her Irish debut. The Elizabethtown, Kentucky, native also grabbed a team-high six rebounds before the break.
Lewis connected on her fourth three-pointer of the half just before the buzzer sounded, bringing her point total to 15 as Notre Dame carried a 64-34 advantage into halftime.
The Irish shot 27-43 from the field in the opening half, including 6-11 from three. Defensively, Notre Dame forced 13 Wildcat turnovers, with Hidalgo and Macy recording four steals apiece.
Six different Irish players scored to open the second half, with Lewis capping the stretch with her fifth three-pointer of the game. Notre Dame built a 78-47 advantage with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter.
The Irish closed the period on a 10-1 run, holding Truman State without a field goal over the final 4:16. Macy continued her strong debut, tallying seven points, three rebounds and two assists in the third quarter alone. Notre Dame took a 90-53 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
The run continued, as the Irish scored the first seven points of the final frame to push the lead to 44.
Abi’s second triple of the game put Notre Dame over the century mark, a catalyst in a 24-0 run as the Irish went up 121-56 with under two minutes to go.
Amari Byles capped off the win with an offensive rebound and layup as Notre Dame outscored Truman State 35-6 in the final quarter to cruise to a 125-59 win.

IU INDY MEN’S BASKETBALL
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The IU Indianapolis men’s basketball team will play its lone exhibition game of the 2026-2027 season on Tuesday night (Oct. 27) when the Jaguars face Austin Peay at 7:00 p.m. CT inside F&M Bank Arena. Tuesday’s contest will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Head coach Ben Howlett’s team is coming off a 7-25 campaign and returns a pair of letterwinners in junior forward Kameron Tinsley (7.9 ppg, 47 3’s) and sophomore forward Reece Hagy (2.4 ppg, 23 starts). Optimism is high in Howlett’s second season after an offseason in which the Jaguars brought in eight transfers and four true freshmen. The group of transfers is highlighted by 6-foot guard Gus Etchison, who averaged nearly nine points per game at Idaho State last season. The local product was one of the top NAIA players in the country at nearby Marian University from 2023-25 before playing last season in the Big Sky.
Senior Precious Idiaru provides size and versatility at 6-foot-10 and was a key member of Gannon University’s NCAA Division II National Championship team last year as he averaged 11.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Another transfer, Billy Smith, returns home after having scored more than 1,000 collegiate points in stops at Miami, Bellarmine and Chattanooga. The 6-foot-7 swingman has made more than 200 career treys and averaged a career-high 14.0 points per game two seasons ago at Bellarmine. Other transfers include Antoine Arnett (Cal. U.), Jason Clarke Jr. (Appalachian State), Peyton Heiss (Mount Vernon Nazarene), Markus Pastorcic-Straun (Colorado School of Mines) and Manasseh Stackhouse (Cloud County C.C.).
The freshman class is headlined by rookie guards Trey Drexler and Tarik Fadel Mula. Drexler was a two-time finalist for Ohio Mr. Basketball while at Brunswick High School while Fadel Mula was one of the top guards in the Cincinnati-area after beginning his high school career in the Orlando-area. Another rookie guard, Kaloyan Kolev, joins the program after a standout high school career at Virginia Episcopal School.
QUOTABLE
“I think we’re ready to go out and compete and see where we stack up,” Howlett said. “The guys are buying in and have been working really hard in practice. We’ve played a couple closed scrimmages, but it’s different to go out and play in front of a crowd in front of the lights. This will be a good test for our guys because this is a really good team and really good program.”
SCOUTING AUSTIN PEAY
Austin Peay is coming off a 22-9 campaign and 15-3 record in the ASUN a season ago. The Govs won a previous exhibition game on Oct. 11, defeating Evansville 79-74. Rashaud Marshall led three Govs in double-digits with 17 points and Zyree Collins added 16 points and seven rebounds. Talon Todd came off the bench to add 13 points on four treys. Marshall, an Ole Miss-transfer, averaged 16.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season while Collins averaged 13.5 points as a true freshman a season ago.
INSIDE THE SERIES
IU Indy and Austin Peay have played three times in the regular season, going 1-2 in those contests. IU Indy’s lone victory in the series was the most recent meeting in Daytona Beach, Fla., in 2009 by a 77-63 score in the Glenn Wilkes Classic to improve to 3-0 to start the season.
UP NEXT
The Jaguars will open the regular season on Monday, Nov. 2 at 11:00 a.m. when they host Miami-Middletown in the annual NCAA ‘Readers Become Leaders’ Game, officially opening James T. Morris Arena.

INDIANA STATE VOLLEYBALL
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State volleyball begins a four-match homestand, its longest of the season, Tuesday night when it faces in-state rival Evansville for a 6 p.m. first serve inside ISU Arena.
Tuesday’s match, which is also the Sycamores’ Blackout Cancer match in partnership with State Dance Marathon, will be aired on ESPN+
Last Time Out
Saturday’s in-state showdown between Indiana State and Valparaiso turned into a marathon inside the Athletics-Recreation Center, with the Sycamores coming from behind to prevail over the Beacons in five sets (25-22, 4-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13). The win was the second in conference play for the Sycamores, both of which have been five-set road contests featuring a comeback from the Blue and White. Indiana State overcame dropping the second set by a lopsided 25-4 margin to snap its five-match losing streak. Kira Holland led the Sycamores with 15 kills and 13 digs, notching her fifth straight double-double while tying for the most kills among players from either team. Taylor Knuth added 10 kills, her most in a conference match, while Hadley Hardersen dished out a career-high 37 assists.
Holland led all players with 13 kills and 13 digs Friday night inside Credit Union 1 Arena, but homestanding UIC eked out a narrow three-set win over Indiana State (25-22, 25-21, 26-24). Ella Scott added 10 kills for the Trees, her most in conference play this season, while hitting a season-high .563. Lily Mueller led all players with five block assists, while Chloe Gilley (nine) and Macy Lengacher (eight) combined for 17 digs between the duo.
Streak Snapped
Indiana State ended a five-match losing streak in its last outing, rallying from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Valparaiso on the road. It was the Sycamores’ first win in Valparaiso since the 2020-21 season and also snapped a five-match losing streak to the Beacons in the process.
Saturday’s win over Valparaiso featured a statistical anomaly, as the Sycamores claimed the match despite losing the second set by a lopsided 25-4 scoreline. Indiana State is the only Division I team to win a match this season after scoring less than five points in a set, and became the first team to win a match after scoring four or fewer points in a set since August 27, 2022, when Nicholls accomplished the feat against Central Michigan.
Return To Sender
Indiana State’s block has steadily improved in recent weeks, with the Sycamores averaging two blocks per set over the course of their last six matches. The Blue and White have been tied or ahead in blocks in five of those matches, including each of the last four, despite facing three of the top five blocking teams during MVC play in UIC, Bradley and Drake.
The Sycamores’ middle blockers have played a significant role in the steady improvement at the net for the Trees, with Lily Mueller (0.92) and Ella Scott (0.81) both ranking in the top 20 in the MVC for blocks per set during conference play.
Long Haul
Indiana State is no stranger to going the distance in 2026, with the Sycamores already playing in seven five-set matches this season. The Trees have fared well in those five-setters, going 5-2 in matches that have required the winner-take-all set, with Indiana State’s five five-set wins this season tied with Drake for the most in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Sycamores have become accustomed to comeback wins in five sets this season, with four of their five five-set wins coming after facing a 2-1 deficit. Indiana State is also nearing its 2013 program record for five-set matches in a season during the rally scoring era, when the Trees played in 10 five-setters.
Evansville At A Glance
Evansville enters the week at 4-18 overall and 1-9 in conference play. The Purple Aces are seeking to snap a seven-match losing streak, with their last win coming October 2 at Murray State.
Lyla Fisher and Wren Jones both have more than 200 kills this season, while Savannah Gogel average more than one block per set. Carsyn Kelley has averaged nearly nine assists per set this year.
Series History vs. Evansville
Indiana State is 49-39 all-time against Evansville, though the Purple Aces won both meetings last season. The Sycamores have been dominant at home in the series, owning a 30-13 record in matches played in Terre Haute.
Up Next
Indiana State plays host to Northern Iowa Friday night for its Volloween match at 6 p.m. Fans are highly encouraged to come dressed in costumes for a chance to win a $50 gift card.
