EAGLES RELEASE QB ANDY DALTON, RULE OUT STAR RB SAQUON BARKLEY VS. JAGS
The Philadelphia Eagles released backup quarterback Andy Dalton on Friday among a flurry of roster moves ahead of their game Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
The Eagles (2-2) ruled out star running back Saquon Barkley (hamstring) as well as safety Marcus Epps (groin), center/guard Drew Kendall (knee) and wide receivers DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Marquise Brown (ankle).
Those five players did not practice all week, nor did outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard (ankle), who is listed as questionable for the game against the Jaguars (3-1).
Starting quarterback Jalen Hurts made his first appearance on the practice report this season with a calf injury but was a full participant with no injury status for Sunday.
Philadelphia obtained Dalton from the Carolina Panthers on March 18 for a 2027 seventh-round pick. He played in one game, filling in when Hurts was being evaluated for a possible concussion. Dalton threw his lone pass for an interception in a 27-7 loss at Chicago on Sept. 28.
Dalton was demoted behind Tanner McKee, now the primary backup, with rookie Cole Payton, a fifth-round pick this year out of North Dakota State, also on the roster.
ESPN reported that Dalton could be a candidate for the Eagles’ practice squad.
Dalton, who turns 39 on Oct. 29, served as a backup for Carolina for the previous three seasons under starter Bryce Young. He spent the first nine years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals before having one-year stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Bears and New Orleans Saints.
In 180 games (169 starts), Dalton has thrown for 39,793 yards, 254 touchdowns and 152 interceptions with a career passer rating of 87.4. He has a career record of 84-83-2 as a starter and is a three-time Pro Bowl selection.
McKee, 26, has played in a total of six games (two starts) for the Eagles in parts of the previous two seasons and has completed 54 of 88 passes (61.4%) for 597 yards, five TDs and one pick. Philadelphia selected him in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Eagles also announced on Friday that they have signed center Jake Majors and running back Carson Steele from the practice squad to the active roster and placed defensive tackle Uar Bernard on the practice squad injured list.
Philadelphia became thin at running back when both Barkley and Tank Bigsby were injured in the 24-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Bigsby was placed on IR with a core injury that requires surgery.
Will Shipley is expected to serve as the lead back for the Eagles, with running back Dameon Pierce elevated to their 53-man roster earlier this week.

RAIDERS RB ASHTON JEANTY (ANKLE/FOOT) QUESTIONABLE AGAINST PATRIOTS
Las Vegas Raiders starting running back Ashton Jeanty is questionable because of an ankle and foot injury for Sunday’s road game against the New England Patriots, head coach Klint Kubiak said Friday.
Jeanty did not practice on Friday after being a full participant on Wednesday and limited on Thursday.
“It’s that time of year,” said Kubiak, who did not provide details on how or when Jeanty was injured. “Guys are getting banged up, and if he can’t go, then we got to get the next man up.”
Jeanty, 22, has started all four games this season and has rushed 78 times for 264 yards, 3.4 yards per carry and no touchdowns. His longest run has been 19 yards. He also has caught 19 passes for 165 yards and two scores.
Jeanty said an ankle injury he sustained in late August has not impacted his performance so far this season. He appeared to hurt his ankle in the third quarter of Sunday’s 30-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but he finished the game.
Las Vegas selected Jeanty sixth overall in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Boise State.
He had 266 carries for 975 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games (all starts) as a rookie last season.
Jeanty’s backup is rookie Mike Washington Jr., who has 24 carries for 120 yards and one touchdown in four games. The Raiders picked Washington in the fourth round of the 2026 draft out of Arkansas.
Las Vegas (3-1) has ruled out wide receivers Jalen Nailor (concussion) and Dont’e Thornton Jr. (hamstring) as well as guard Trey Zuhn III (knee) against New England (2-2). Nailor and Zuhn did not practice Friday, but Thornton has participated fully all week as he ramps up a return from injured reserve.

RAVENS QB LAMAR JACKSON (ANKLE) RULED OUT VS. FALCONS
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was ruled out for Baltimore’s Week 5 game Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons.
Head coach Jesse Minter said Friday that Tyler Huntley would be the starter at Atlanta (2-2).
Jackson did not practice all week because of a left ankle injury that forced him to leave last week’s win over the Titans before halftime.
Huntley filled in when Jackson was hurt and completed 8 of 9 passes for 63 yards in the second half as the Ravens defeated the Titans 24-18.
“We have a ton of confidence in (Huntley) to play really well,” Minter said. “I think everyone on the team is excited to see that.”
Minter initially said the Ravens (3-1) could still use Jackson if he was unable to practice all week, but a rugged schedule ahead likely led Baltimore to play it safe for another week.
The Ravens are 6-11 in the previous 17 games Jackson missed. Baltimore was 2-2 last season without him. Huntley has started 11 games in place of Jackson and has a 5-6 record, including 2-0 in 2025.
Jackson, 29, is 68-of-96 passing (70.8%) for 967 yards, six touchdowns and one interception in four games (all starts) this season.
The four-time Pro Bowl selection is a three-time first-team All-Pro honoree and was the NFL Most Valuable Player in 2019 and 2023.
Huntley, 28, has passed for 3,275 yards, 13 TDs and 10 interceptions in 31 regular-season games (16 starts) for the Ravens (2020-23, 2025-present) and Miami Dolphins (2024). He also has played in two postseason games (one start) for Baltimore and completed 23 of 42 passes for 286 yards, two TDs and one pick.

WEEK 5 NFL GAME CAPSULES
Philadelphia Eagles (2-2) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-1) in London
Sunday, 9:30 a.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Jaguars -7.5, Total 41.5
Series Rewind: Jacksonville won the first three games in this series but Philadelphia has won the last five to claim a 5-3 lead. That includes a 2018 game in London which the Eagles won 24-18.
The Eagles head across the pond with a new-look offense of sorts after offensive tackle Lane Johnson retired and two-time Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens was traded this week, and running backs Saquon Barkley (hamstring) and Tank Bigsby (core) are expected to be sidelined. Will Shipley could step into a feature role at running back. Since he was drafted in the fourth round in 2024, he has largely been a kick returner, with just 59 carries for 182 yards and no touchdowns in 35 games (one start). Philadelphia elevated Dameon Pierce from its practice squad Wednesday, giving the position group a former starter who rushed for 1,684 yards and eight TDs over the last four seasons. The Jaguars, who enter off consecutive wins over New England and Cincinnati, boast the third-best rushing defense in the NFL (74.3 yards allowed per game) and gave up just 23 rushing yards last week to the Cincinnati Bengals. Jacksonville also has a league-best plus-6 turnover margin (eight takeaways, two giveaways) and is second in scoring defense at 13.3 points per game. With a win over the Eagles, the Jaguars, who will stay in London through next Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, would be off to a second 4-1 start in as many seasons under coach Liam Coen. Before last season, they hadn’t started 4-1 or better since 2007.
Houston Texans (0-4) at Tennessee Titans (0-4)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Texans -7, Total 37.5
Series Rewind: Houston has won three consecutive games and six of the past seven in the series, which is tied 24-24.
Tennessee is winless and fighting for every inch of offense. The Titans average less than two touchdowns per game and a meager 261.3 yards of offense, which ranks last in the NFL. Despite being sacked 12 times, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud hasn’t thrown an interception this season and consistently has Houston in every game. But the inability to close leaves the Texans in danger of falling into last place in the AFC South with a loss Sunday. WR Nico Collins has 50-plus receiving yards in 11 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the NFL. He came back from injury to catch two touchdown passes from Stroud last week in a loss to the Cowboys. The Titans are hopeful Carnell Tate, drafted in the first round in April, continues to climb to reach Collins’ tier as a perennial Pro Bowl talent. Tate (questionable with a back injury) caught nine passes for 145 yards against the Ravens last week.
Minnesota Vikings (4-0) at New Orleans Saints (1-3)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Vikings -1.5, Total 42.5
Series Rewind: Minnesota scored wins in the past two meetings to grow an all-time edge in the regular-season series to 21-12.
For the second time in three seasons, the Vikings are 4-0 to start the season. Will this be the year Minnesota can finish what it started? Kyler Murray hasn’t had much time with the top offensive unit as a complete group. Wide receiver Justin Jefferson (ankle) didn’t play last week and is questionable, along with wideout Jordan Addison, for Sunday’s game. The Saints are scoring — and averaging 26.3 points per game — but too many defensive breakdowns have forced quarterback Tyler Shough into shootouts. The predictable pass-first approach as New Orleans attempts comeback after comeback is leaving the banged-up offensive line exposed and Shough at risk of taking too many hits. The running game isn’t where the Saints would like. Wide receiver Chris Olave is the only player in the league with at least eight catches and 85 yards in every game this season.
New York Giants (3-1) at Washington Commanders (1-3)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Commanders -3.5, Total 42.5
Series Rewind: Washington has won the past four meetings, QB Jayden Daniels is 3-0 against the Giants and Commanders coach Dan Quinn is 6-0 all-time against New York.
Daniels is back in the lineup after a two-game absence caused by another injury to his left (non-throwing) elbow. The Giants’ pass rush is diminished without Brian Burns and will be further compromised by Daniels’ mobility. The Giants are deploying linebacker Arvell Reese in unique ways. The first-round pick out of Ohio State will share the field with former Buckeyes teammate Sonny Styles, Washington’s first-round rookie. Each had an interception in Week 4. Daniels has played just six quarters this season. He reached 70 rushing yards in first half of his team’s Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys before he was injured. The Giants are working with Jameis Winston as their QB1 after Jaxson Dart suffered a season-ending knee injury. Winston and wide receiver Malik Nabers connected for a passing touchdown last week. It was Nabers’ first TD of the season.
Cincinnati Bengals (2-2) at Miami Dolphins (0-4)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Bengals -6.5, Total 43.5
Series Rewind: Miami leads the all-time series 18-9 but Cincinnati has won the last two and four of the last six, including a 45-21 win last December in Miami.
Cincinnati’s 2-0 start has been spoiled by consecutive losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Jaguars. A matchup against the winless Dolphins provides a chance to snap that skid, but the potential absences of star receivers Ja’Marr Chase (concussion) and Tee Higgins (groin/neck) would test an offense that ranks fifth in the NFL with 277.5 passing yards per game but is last in the AFC and 31st in the league with 74.3 rushing yards per contest. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow ranks fifth in the league with 292.8 yards passing per game and a 71.3% completion percentage, but he could be forced to rely on rookie wideout Colbie Young, among others. The Dolphins have shown improvement on defense the past two weeks in losses to the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings. They had not mustered a sack through their first three games, but that changed dramatically last week when they took down Minnesota’s Kyler Murray four times. They also kept the Vikings out of the end zone, but Will Reichard’s five field goals helped Minnesota escape with a 15-10 win. Miami also appears to have found an impact rookie in linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who ranks second in the NFL with 46 tackles. The Dolphins lost lead running back De’Von Achane to a torn ACL in Week 3, but his replacement, Ollie Gordon, rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on nine carries last week.
Cleveland Browns (3-1) at New York Jets (1-3)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Jets -1.5, Total 39.5
Series Rewind: This is a balanced series, in which Cleveland narrowly leads 16-15 and the teams have split their last six meetings. They also faced off last November in East Rutherford, N.J., and the Jets took home a 27-20 victory.
Two of the NFL’s perennial doormats are on opposite trajectories. The Browns haven’t lost since being trampled 34-10 by the Jaguars in their season opener, despite trailing or being tied in the fourth quarter in each of their three victories. They’ve produced a late go-ahead touchdown or field goal each time, most recently Andre Szmyt’s 56-yard kick with 10 seconds left to notch a 27-24 win over the division-rival Steelers. After a rocky season debut, Deshaun Watson has paired five touchdown passes with just one interception during Cleveland’s winning streak. The Jets, meanwhile, have been a mirror image of Cleveland. A Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans inspired confidence, but their three losses since have played out in increasingly worse fashion. In their 23-12 loss last Sunday to the Bears in Chicago, their defense allowed more first downs (34) than their offense ran plays (32). That came not against Bears No. 1 quarterback Caleb Williams, who was injured, but against backup Tyson Bagent. Geno Smith, whose second stint as New York’s starting quarterback also got off to a promising start, had his mildest showing of the season: 8-for-15 passing, 119 yards, one touchdown.
Indianapolis Colts (2-2) at Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel: Steelers -2.5. Total: 44.5
Series Rewind: Pittsburgh registered a 27-20 home win over the Colts last season when it held running back Jonathan Taylor to 45 yards on 14 carries. Indianapolis had won the previous two meetings after the Steelers dominated before that with eight consecutive victories.
The surly version of quarterback Aaron Rodgers has had to time to calm down with Pittsburgh being off last weekend. Rodgers was visibly disappointed during a 27-24 road loss to the Browns on Oct. 1 and had a tense sideline exchange with coach Mike McCarthy. Rodgers saw his emotional displays as positives, and McCarthy saw similar theatrics many times while coaching Rodgers for 13 seasons (2006-18) with the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers has 999 passing yards and seven touchdowns against four interceptions through four games, but running back Jaylen Warren has arguably been Pittsburgh’s top offensive performer with 309 rushing yards, which ranks ninth in the NFL. Linebacker T.J. Watt is tied for third in the NFL with 4.5 sacks and remains as disruptive as ever. The Colts are coming off a 30-13 rout of the Washington Commanders in London, but the victory was overshadowed by owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon’s routine of hanging out on the sideline and taking notes, including charting plays. Taylor rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. It was his third game with more than 90 yards and his third game with two rushing scores. He ranks third in the NFL with 353 rushing yards and is 49 yards shy of 8,000 for his career. Quarterback Daniel Jones has thrown more interceptions (four) than touchdowns (three) this season. Defensive end DeForest Buckner is off to a strong start with three sacks to raise his career total to 74.5.
Chicago Bears (3-1) at Green Bay Packers (2-2)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Bears -1.5, Total 45.5
Series Rewind: The NFL’s oldest rivalry (started in 1921) renews at Lambeau Field, where Green Bay prevailed in Week 14 last season. Chicago had the last laugh with victories at home in Week 16 and the wild-card round.
Each of the past six matches between the NFC North rivals, including the playoffs, has been a one-score game (decided by eight or fewer points). Chicago enters this week’s clash with the NFL’s best offense (429.0 yards per game) and top ground game (196.3 per contest). Green Bay is at the other end of the spectrum, with the NFL’s most anemic rushing attack (58.0 per game) and the fifth-fewest points (73). The Bears have won three games with three different starting quarterbacks. Tyson Bagent will likely make his second straight start for the injured Caleb Williams. Williams was limited in Friday’s practice and surprisingly came into the weekend listed as questionable. Kyle Monangai ran for 146 yards in last week’s win against the Jets, scoring two rushing touchdowns — two more than the Packers have this season — but will miss Sunday’s game with a turf toe injury. Green Bay’s Jordan Love is one of four QBs with at least two TD passes in four consecutive games this season. Christian Watson leads the Packers with four touchdown catches, and he scored three times in three meetings with the Bears last season. Packers coach Matt LaFleur is 6-1 against Chicago at home.
Las Vegas Raiders (3-1) at New England Patriots (2-2)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Patriots -3.5, Total 44.5
Series Rewind: The Raiders beat the Patriots 20-13 in Week 1 of the 2025 season to extend their winning streak over New England to three games.
Kirk Cousins has found new life in Las Vegas, even without a bona fide No. 1 receiver. Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer give the Raiders a strong tandem at tight end. Bowers missed the first two games of the season with a knee injury, but he caught 10 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown in a Week 3 victory over the New Orleans Saints and had six receptions for 86 yards and a TD in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last week. The Raiders and Detroit Lions are the only NFL teams that have scored at least 26 points in every game this season. The Patriots have not looked like the team that represented the AFC in the Super Bowl last season. They lost their opener to the Seahawks, for whom current Las Vegas coach Klint Kubiak served last season as play-caller and offensive coordinator. Given the number of injuries the Patriots have faced on defense, the pressure remains on for quarterback Drake Maye to put points on the board. The 2025 MVP runner-up showed life last week after throwing six interceptions and one touchdown pass in the first three games of the season. Maye was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after completing 22 of 37 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns in a 29-26 road victory over the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, N.Y. He also rushed for 54 yards on eight carries.
Denver Broncos (2-2) at Los Angeles Chargers (0-4)
Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Broncos –3.5. Total: 42.5
Series Rewind: Denver recorded a 19-3 victory in the teams’ second meeting last season to halt a three-game slide against the Chargers. Justin Herbert didn’t play with the playoffs on the horizon, and neither team scored an offensive touchdown. The Broncos have won five of the past six meetings in Southern California.
Both offenses have underperformed. Denver has scored 20 or fewer points in three of its four games and ranks 27th in scoring offense (18.5 points per game) and 28th in total offense (280.3 yards per game). It gained 296 yards in last week’s 24-14 road loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Coach Sean Payton is taking over the play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Davis Webb, hoping to provide a spark and not so subtly saying, “This isn’t championship football.” Quarterback Bo Nix passed for 214 yards and one score against the 49ers. While Webb lost some of his duties, the Chargers are sticking with first-year offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel despite a poor first four games. The Chargers rank 29th in scoring (16.8 points per game) and have scored 16 or fewer points in three of four games. Herbert hasn’t mixed well with McDaniel; he has thrown for less than 200 yards twice and has more interceptions (six) than touchdown passes (four). In 2024, Herbert tossed a career-low three interceptions in 504 attempts. He has doubled that in just 119 throws this season while completing a career-worst 59.7% of his passes. On defense, pass rusher Khalil Mack has three sacks to raise his career total to 116. Safety Derwin James (hamstring) hasn’t practiced this week and could miss his second straight game. Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain (ankle) missed consecutive practices and his status is still to be firmed up. Denver linebacker Alex Singleton leads the NFL with 47 tackles. He had 14 against the 49ers, his second-highest output of the season.
Detroit Lions (2-2) at Arizona Cardinals (1-3)
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Lions -5.5, Total 54.5
Series Rewind: The Lions are 5-0-1 in the past six meetings between the teams. Detroit most recently came to Arizona in September 2024 and handed the Cardinals a 20-13 defeat, with quarterback Jared Goff throwing for 199 yards and two touchdowns.
Points? We have points. The Lions rank 31st in the NFL in scoring defense, allowing 31.8 points per game, and last in passing defense at 304.0 yards per contest. The Cardinals (1-3) rank 29th in scoring defense, allowing 29.3 points per game. Arizona has lost three straight while surrendering at least 31 points in each defeat. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett should have open passing lanes as the Lions are still likely to be without starting safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph. Branch returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since tearing his Achilles last December, but he is not ready for game action. Goff has yet to throw an interception in 161 pass attempts this season while tossing nine touchdown passes. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and running back Jahmyr Gibbs rank in the NFL’s top 10 in receiving and rushing yards, respectively. St. Brown has recorded five touchdown catches and Gibbs five rushing touchdowns. While Brissett will likely have receivers open downfield, will he have time to find them? The Cardinals received bad news this week regarding the offensive line: starting left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. tore his left biceps in the team’s 36-24 loss to the New York Giants last week. Johnson, a former sixth overall draft pick, has 47 career starts in three-plus NFL seasons.
San Francisco 49ers (4-0) at Seattle Seahawks (3-1)
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Seahawks -3, Total 46.5
Series Rewind: This is a rematch of last season’s divisional playoff game at Lumen Field, where the Seahawks stormed to a 41-6 win. Rashid Shaheed returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, and Seattle was off and running from there.
The 49ers are 4-0 for the fourth time since 1990. Brock Purdy leads the NFL with a 126.2 passer rating and can become just the fifth QB this century with multiple touchdown passes and a triple-digit passer rating in each of his team’s first five games (Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson). Christian McCaffrey has gained 100-plus yards from scrimmage in seven of his last eight games against the Seahawks. Tight end George Kittle is looking for his fourth straight game with a TD catch and has scored in three of his last four meetings with Seattle. The Seahawks counter with the NFL’s No. 1 defense (246.8 yards allowed per game) and No. 1 pass defense (144.8 allowed per game). Jaxon Smith-Njigba leads the league with six touchdown receptions but has not found the end zone in six career regular-season clashes with the NFC West rival 49ers. Emanuel Wilson will carry the load again in the Seattle backfield after posting 120 scrimmage yards and two scores in last week’s win over the Chargers.
Baltimore Ravens (3-1) at Atlanta Falcons (2-2)
Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Falcons -3.5, Total 43.5
Series Rewind: The Ravens have swept the last three meetings and haven’t lost to the Falcons since 2010. The last time they met was on Christmas Eve in 2022 when Baltimore won 17-9 at home without Lamar Jackson (knee).
Atlanta is looking for a third consecutive win in prime time after beating the Packers on Thursday night in Week 3 and the Saints on Monday night in Week 4. Michael Penix Jr. completed 73.3% of his passes in those wins, his first two starts since tearing his left ACL last November. All eyes will be on the running backs in this game: Atlanta’s Bijan Robinson (6,262) and Baltimore’s Derrick Henry (5,658) rank first and second in the NFL in scrimmage yards since 2023. Henry will be facing a defense that ranks No. 1 in the league against the run, allowing just 48.3 yards per game. If the Ravens are forced to throw, they may be doing it without Jackson. He missed all three practices this week while dealing with the ankle injury he suffered in last Sunday’s win over the Titans. Backup Tyler Huntley would make his 17th career start, and 12th for Baltimore, if the two-time MVP is unavailable. Baltimore is 2-0 on the road under first-year head coach Jesse Minter, with wins at Indianapolis in Week 1 and Dallas in Week 3.
Buffalo Bills (3-1) at Los Angeles Rams (2-2)
Monday, 8:15 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Rams –3.5. Total: 54.5
Series Rewind: The Rams registered a 44-42 home victory over the Bills in 2024. Josh Allen accounted for six touchdowns (three passing, three rushing). Buffalo won eight of the previous 10 games prior to that meeting.
The last two NFL MVPs get a chance to put on a show on the Monday night stage. Allen, the 2024 winner, has passed for 1,039 yards and six touchdowns against three interceptions this season. He has seven rushing TDs, tying Derrick Henry for most in the NFL. The Bills lead the NFL in scoring at 31.8 points per game. The Rams are second in total offense (417 yards per game), but that hasn’t led to points. Los Angeles is 19th in scoring (21.3 points per game). Matthew Stafford, the reigning MVP, has thrown for 1,189 yards and six touchdowns but also has been intercepted six times. Only the Patriots’ Drake Maye (seven) has thrown more. Star wideout Puka Nacua looked healthy in Los Angeles’ 24-20 win over the Philadelphia Eagles with nine catches for 125 yards. Davante Adams, who had 137 and 195 receiving yards over the previous two games, had just four catches for 32 yards against the Eagles. Kyren Williams had two rushing scores in the final 3:59 as the Rams put together a furious comeback. Buffalo dropped a 29-26 home decision to the Patriots last week when New England held a 73-54 edge in offensive plays. Allen had 4 rushing yards and a touchdown on five carries. He denied midweek that he was dealing with soreness. A more spry Allen is likely to be seen if Rams star Aaron Donald is pursuing him. Bills wideout DJ Moore (shoulder) is pushing to be on the field. Buffalo defensive tackle Ed Oliver (knee) also is ailing.

STEELERS WR MICHAEL PITTMAN JR. (FOOT) TO MISS MULTIPLE GAMES
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. will not have a reunion on the field versus his former team.
Pittman, in fact, will be sidelined for longer than just Sunday’s game against the visiting Indianapolis Colts. Head coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday that Pittman will sit out multiple games after re-injuring his left foot.
“It’s the same foot, so it’s going to be a multiple-week injury,” McCarthy said. “We’re still going through the evaluation of his roster position.”
Pittman, 29, has just seven catches for 89 yards in three games (all starts) since he signed a three-year, $59 million contract extension. He was traded by the Colts in March along with a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to the Steelers for a sixth-round selection in the same draft.
Pittman caught 80 passes for 784 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns in 17 games (16 starts) with Indianapolis in 2025.
He posted two 1,000-yard seasons with the Colts despite considerable turnover at quarterback since he was drafted 34th overall in 2020. He has caught 492 passes for 5,343 yards and 25 TDs in 98 career games (89 starts).

JALON DANIELS, BUCKY IRVING CARRY BUCCANEERS PAST COWBOYS FOR FIRST WIN
Bucky Irving rushed for a career-high 165 yards and accounted for two touchdowns and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers collected their first victory of the season, prevailing 24-16 over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night at Arlington, Texas.
Alex Anzalone recorded an interception with 1:12 left for the Buccaneers (1-4), who had three second-half takeaways.
Jalon Daniels, an undrafted rookie from Kansas, completed 19 of 25 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown for Tampa Bay. He made his second start in place of Baker Mayfield (dislocated thumb).
Irving, who carried 21 times, ran for one score and caught another. Emeka Egbuka also rushed for a score for Tampa Bay.
Dak Prescott completed 24 of 42 passes for 316 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions off caroms for Dallas (2-3). George Pickens caught nine passes for 130 yards and a touchdown catch and Javonte Williams rushed for a score.
Dallas star CeeDee Lamb had just two receptions for 9 yards before leaving in the second half with a quadriceps injury.
The Buccaneers led by 14 when Sean Tucker was stopped on fourth-and-goal from the 1 with 8:32 remaining.
The Cowboys then sped 99 yards on 10 plays and Prescott hit Pickens on an 18-yard pass with 5:26 left. The two-point conversion pass failed, leaving Dallas behind by eight.
The Cowboys were driving again when Prescott’s pass bounced off the hands of Jake Ferguson. The ball ricocheted high in the air before Anzalone made a diving grab at the Tampa Bay 12-yard line. The Bucs then ran out the clock.
Dallas cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (illness) was scratched before kickoff.
Tampa Bay needed just two plays to open the third quarter with a touchdown. Irving broke left for a 72-yard gain to the Dallas 14. On the next play, Egbuka headed left on the jet sweep for a 14-yard scamper to give the Buccaneers a 14-10 lead.
Later in the quarter, Prescott’s pass caromed off players from both teams and floated into the air before YaYa Diaby grabbed it at the Tampa Bay 25-yard line for his first career interception.
The Buccaneers moved 75 yards on five plays, including a 64-yard pass from Daniels to Tez Johnson. Irving finished it off with a 1-yard run as Tampa Bay took a 21-10 lead with 7:31 left in the period.
Dallas returner KaVontae Turpin lost the ensuing kickoff when Miles Killebrew poked the ball away. Kevin Knowles recovered it at the Cowboys’ 37 and Tampa Bay cashed in with Chase McLaughlin’s 41-yard field goal for a 14-point lead with 2:58 left in the period.
Dallas held a 10-7 halftime lead after Brandon Aubrey kicked a 41-yard field goal with 21 seconds left in the first half.
The Cowboys opened the game with a nine-play, 70-yard drive and Williams scored from the 1.
Tampa Bay answered by driving 73 yards on 15 plays over 10:58. Irving caught a 5-yard scoring pass from Daniels seven seconds into the second quarter.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL NEWS
BEAR BACHMEIER’S PASSING, RUNNING PROPEL NO. 8 BYU PAST IOWA STATE
Bear Bachmeier passed for 329 yards and two touchdowns and tacked on a career-best 109 rushing yards as No. 8 BYU notched a 24-10 victory over Iowa State on Friday night in Big 12 play at Provo, Utah.
Bachmeier completed 22 of 30 passes for the Cougars (5-0, 3-0 Big 12), who are undefeated after five games in a third straight season for the first time in program history.
Legend Glasker had five receptions for 99 yards and a touchdown for BYU. Kyler Kasper also caught a touchdown pass and Journee Tonga rushed for a score for the Cougars, who played without star running back LJ Martin (lower-leg injury).
Jaylen Raynor completed 16 of 29 passes for 98 yards and one touchdown for Iowa State (3-3, 1-2). Aiden Flora had 75 of his 86 rushing yards in the second half one week after rushing for a career-best 212 in a win over West Virginia.
BYU outgained the Cyclones 506-200 but went 0-for-3 on fourth downs, twice throwing incompletions into the end zone. The Cougars took Matthias Dunn’s 22-yard field goal off the board after an Iowa State offside in the third quarter and came up with nothing to show for a 12-play, 97-yard drive that chewed 7:24 off the clock.
BYU went the big-play route later in the quarter as Bachmeier teamed up with Glasker on a 75-yard scoring play. Glasker caught the ball around the Iowa State 45 and proceeded to the end zone to give the Cougars a 21-3 lead.
Iowa State found the end zone with 12:51 remaining in the contest when Raynor flipped a 1-yard scoring pass to Christian Greenlaw, trimming BYU’s lead to 21-10.
The Cyclones later had fourth-and-2 and gave the ball to Flora, a former high school quarterback who threw for two touchdowns on halfback tosses last week. Flora wanted to throw but was under heavy pressure. He escaped and turned it into a 21-yard running gain to the BYU 47, but Iowa State came up empty when standout kicker Kyle Konrardy was wide left on a 46-yard field-goal attempt.
Dunn booted a 38-yard field goal to give the Cougars a 14-point lead with 1:51 remaining.
The Cougars outgained Iowa State 250-49 while building a 14-3 halftime lead.
BYU drove 75 yards on 10 plays to open the game with Tonga finishing it with a 6-yard run.
The Cyclones scored 59 seconds into the second quarter when Konrardy kicked a 40-yard field goal.
Bachmeier later connected with Roger Saleapaga II on a 63-yard play to the Iowa State 5. Two plays later, Bachmeier hit Kasper for the touchdown with 1:51 left in the half.

KAMARI MOULTON RUNS FOR 208 YARDS TO LEAD NO. 20 IOWA PAST WASHINGTON
Kamari Moulton rushed for 208 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries and backup quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski threw for three TDs as No. 20 Iowa trounced Washington 41-24 in a Big Ten Conference game on a rainy Friday night in Seattle.
Hecklinski, who got his first career start with Hank Brown sidelined with a sprained AC joint, completed 14 of 19 passes for 202 yards for the Hawkeyes (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten), who bounced back from a 31-14 defeat to No. 5 Ohio State last week in Iowa City.
The Hawkeyes outgained Washington 465-317 and held the Huskies to minus-3 yards rushing.
Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. suffered a rib injury late in the first half and didn’t return. Williams was 6-of-11 passing for 69 yards.
Williams’ injury had no impact on the final score, as the Huskies trailed 27-0 when he departed. Backup QB Elijah Brown completed 28 of 39 passes for 251 yards and three TDs in the second half.
The Hawkeyes dominated the first half, taking a 27-3 lead.
Iowa’s Caden Buhr kicked 51- and 27-yard field goals on his team’s opening two drives for a 6-0 lead.
After the Hawkeyes went three-and-out on their next possession, they put together three straight touchdown drives.
Moulton scored on a 56-yard run on the first play from scrimmage after a Washington punt, putting Iowa up 13-0 with 10 seconds left in the first quarter. Moulton went up the middle, cut to the left sideline and broke four tackles on his way to the end zone.
Hecklinski hit DJ Vonnahme with a 20-yard scoring strike in the second to push the lead to 20-0, capping an eight-play, 69-yard drive.
Vonnahme scored again on a 24-yard reception with 5:07 left in the quarter to complete another 69-yard drive, this time taking just five plays.
The Huskies’ Tyler Robles kicked a 30-yard field goal with 1:56 left in the half after Williams was shaken up at the end of a run on the previous play to get the hosts on the scoreboard.
Brown led the Huskies on a 75-yard TD drive to start the second half, throwing a 10-yard scoring strike to Chris Lawson to make it 27-10.
Hecklinski found Reece Vander Zee on an 8-yard TD pass on Iowa’s first possession of the third quarter.
Brown hit Dezmen Roebuck on a 2-yard TD pass late in the third and threw a two-point conversion to Lawson to pull the Huskies within 34-18.
Moulton scored on a 3-yard run early in the fourth.
Brown threw a 3-yard TD pass to Mason James on the game’s final play.

QB RAIOLA TO START WITH MOORE RULED OUT OF NO. 13 OREGON’S GAME AGAINST NO. 21 UCLA
Quarterback Dante Moore returned to practice with No. 13 Oregon this week but he remains in the concussion protocol and won’t play on Saturday when the Ducks host UCLA.
Moore sustained the concussion in a late hit by linebacker Desman Stephens during the second quarter of the Ducks’ 41-27 victory over Southern California on Sept. 26. Moore was placed on a stretcher and left the game in an ambulance.
Oregon backup Dylan Raiola took over and threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns against the Trojans.
Raiola will get the nod again for the Ducks (3-1, 1-0 Big 10) on Saturday against the No. 21 Bruins (4-0, 2-0) at Autzen Stadium.
“He had an expectation when he stepped out there on the field and performed at a really, really high level, and everybody had confidence in him because they see him do it a lot in practice,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said about Raiola. “You get a lot of reps in practice, regardless of where you’re sitting.”
Raiola transferred to Oregon after starting two seasons at Nebraska, knowing Moore was likely the starter. He has thrown for 413 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions in two appearances this season. Saturday will be his first start for the Ducks.
“It’s totally different systems than what he was running before, so I think you got to build confidence in the system, and that takes time, especially when you ask the quarterback to do as much as we ask the quarterback to do,” Lanning said. “You know, whether it’s checks on plays or just the length of a call, right? It’s a little bit different. There’s a lot of variables in there, and it takes some time to get comfortable with it, even when you’re really cerebral and intelligent like Dylan is.”
UCLA coach Bob Chesney said Moore and Raiola are similar quarterbacks.
“They’re both very, very good football players. You can’t really think one way or the other who’s going to be out there and who’s not,” Chesney said. “We’ve got to prepare for both. But really, the good thing is that it’s not like the second kid can’t throw and is only a runner and has to change everything we’re doing.”
The Ducks have already turned the page from the USC game and everything that came with it, from the worry over Moore’s condition to the joy in the victory, Raiola said.
“Ultimately, the end of the day, our goal is to to win and go 1-0 that week. Very proud of how we fought through the ups and the downs and the moments of that game, we we came out on the other side strong, Raiola said. ”But on the flip side, kind of put that game to bed last week and been preparing because we’ve got got a really, really good football team coming to town.”
While Moore has returned to practice, he was listed on league’s availability report as out for Saturday and still must complete several benchmarks before he can play in a game. But the team was boosted by his return to practice, even if it is in a limited capacity.
“I think the biggest thing is just being able to see a smile on his face to get around and be around his teammates and his brothers and do that at a high level,” Lanning said. “Everybody has a smile on their face getting to see Dante out there with us this week, and it’s been fun seeing him compete.”

GEORGIA AND ALABAMA MEET AGAIN WITH SEC STAKES HIGH AND SEVERE WEATHER LOOMING
The latest edition of the Bulldogs-Crimson Tide rivalry is Saturday night — if the weather holds up.
As No. 2 Georgia heads to No. 6 Alabama for a highly anticipated Southeastern Conference showdown, plenty of questions remain about the status of the game with Hurricane Isaias set to make landfall on Friday night. College football fans — and President Donald Trump, who is set to attend — are left waiting for clarity as contingency plans have yet to be made public.
Both Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer and Georgia’s Kirby Smart emphasized that the conditions are out of their control, and the focus remains on game preparation.
Alabama said Wednesday night that the safety of all parties is the highest priority and that kickoff remains scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday.
And if kickoff time stands, there is no shortage of things to watch.
Stock up for Stockton
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton is no stranger to Alabama. Saturday marks his third meeting with the Crimson Tide as QB1, and he enters it playing some of the best football of his career.
“We’ve seen Gunner Stockton now a number of times, but he keeps getting better,” DeBoer said Monday.
Stockton is coming off what Smart called his most complete performance of the season, throwing for 295 yards and three touchdowns against Vanderbilt.
Georgia has outscored its opponents by a combined 190 points this season.
Alabama’s defense fared well against Stockton last year, holding him to fewer than 160 passing yards in both outings — something that happened only three times last season.
The Georgia quarterback is 1-1 against Alabama, bouncing back from a regular-season 24-21 loss with a 28-7 SEC championship game victory.
The Dawgs still bring the bite
Georgia’s defense has forced 10 turnovers through five games. The Bulldogs’ plus-6 turnover margin is the second-best in the SEC behind, of course, Alabama.
Raylen Wilson leads Georgia with 27 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles, while Chris Cole has 22 tackles and two fumble recoveries. Cornerback Ellis Robinson IV has three pass breakups and an interception, the latter coming against Vanderbilt last week.
Georgia used the same 11 defensive starters through its first four games before adding lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye and safety Rasean Dinkins against Vanderbilt.
“Disciplined, sound, multiple in what they do,” Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said about Georgia’s defensive unit. “Physical up front, they get vertical, and they do a great job. They’re well-coached. They got good players. They play hard. It’ll be a huge test.”
Not the Bama offense Georgia saw last season
Alabama sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell has impressed in his first year as a starter, leading the Crimson Tide to a 5-0 start while completing 71.2% of passes for 1,414 yards, 11 touchdowns and rushing for 184 yards and four scores.
Ryan Coleman-Williams has emerged as a top target with 20 catches for 376 yards and four touchdowns, while Daniel Hill and Trae’shawn Brown lead the rushing attack.
Alabama is the only FBS team to score at least 45 points in every game this season, outscoring opponents by 144 points.
“Quarterback is playing amazing for them,” Smart said about Russell. “Guy is really talented, fun to watch, and you’ve seen the growth just from the first game all the way through. The talent this guy has is pretty incredible, and they have a great scheme around him.”
Injury report
Georgia will get running back Nate Frazier back after he missed the Oklahoma game and played limited snaps last week. Running back Chauncey Bowens, who took much of the load with Frazier sidelined, is now out according to the SEC’s injury report. Receiver Isiah Canion remains questionable for Georgia.
Despite undergoing surgery for a broken arm on Sunday, DeBoer thinks Alabama tight end Josh Ford could play. Right tackle Jayvin James is not on the initial availability report after missing the Mississippi State game, indicating a possible return. Edge rushers Justin Hill and Desmond Umeozulu are expected to miss another game.
A history lesson
The SEC championship race has run through Athens or Tuscaloosa for much of the past decade. Either Georgia or Alabama has won 11 of the past 12 conference titles, with a stacked 2019 LSU team being the lone exception.
Saturday is the 76th meeting between the teams and the 13th with both ranked in the top 10. At this point, the stakes are almost routine: The SEC standings and College Football Playoff picture are often altered when Georgia and Alabama meet.

NHL ROUNDUP: CAPITALS WIN AS RANGERS G IGOR SHESTERKIN INJURED
Boone Jenner scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period and the host Washington Capitals won 3-1 on Friday, cooling off the New York Rangers, who lost star goaltender Igor Shesterkin to a lower-body injury.
Timothy Liljegren also scored, Tom Wilson added an empty-netter and Logan Thompson made 22 saves for Washington, which has won three of its first four on the season. The Capitals also snapped the Rangers’ four-game winning streak.
Shesterkin, who entered with a 3-1-0 record, a 1.75 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage this season, appeared to awkwardly jam his right skate into the goalpost while sliding into position to make a save with 11:40 remaining in the second period of a 1-1 contest.
The former Vezina Trophy winner, who stopped 13 of the 14 shots he saw on Friday, remained down on the ice for several minutes and had to be helped to the bench by a pair of teammates. Backup Dylan Garand, who made 22 saves in New York’s 2-0 win at Detroit on Oct. 2, replaced Shesterkin and stopped 11 of 12 shots.
Blue Jackets 3, Penguins 2 (SO)
Kent Johnson scored in the first round of the shootout and Cam Talbot made it stand up in his season debut, fueling host Columbus to a victory over Pittsburgh.
All four games between the teams last season ventured past regulation before Friday’s game followed suit. Columbus defenseman Damon Severson collected a goal and an assist in his season debut. Mathieu Olivier also scored and Cole Sillinger notched two assists for the Blue Jackets.
Pittsburgh’s Bryan Rust scored for the second time in as many games and Evgeni Malkin also tallied. Sergei Murashov turned aside 43 shots for the Penguins, who have lost three in a row (0-2-1).
Ducks 5, Jets 1
Judd Caulfield, Tim Washe and Mikael Granlund each had a goal and an assist for Anaheim in a victory at Winnipeg.
Sam Colangelo and Nikita Nesterenko also scored, Jeff Malott and Beckett Sennecke contributed two assists apiece, and Lukas Dostal made 15 saves for the Ducks, who were coming off their first loss of the season.
Kyle Connor scored and Clay Stevenson made 12 saves in his seventh NHL start for the Jets, who had won three in a row following a season-opening overtime defeat.
Kraken 6, Red Wings 3
Frederick Gaudreau scored two of Seattle’s four straight second-period goals as the Kraken pulled away against host Detroit.
Ben Meyers supplied a goal and two assists, while Berkly Catton had a goal and an assist. Mackie Samoskevich and Vince Dunn also scored for the Kraken, while Philipp Grubauer made 37 saves.
William Wallinder and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard scored their first NHL goals for Detroit. Viktor Arvidsson scored for the third straight game.

ROOKIE RYAN ARMOUR FIRES 63 TO LEAD FURYK & FRIENDS
Ryan Armour rattled off 10 birdies in a 9-under-par round of 63 on Friday and holds a one-shot lead at the Constellation Furyk & Friends in Palm Coast, Fla.
Armour is just ahead of Paul Goydos and Australian Rod Pampling (8-under 64) after one trip around the Ocean Course at Hammock Beach, which is hosting the event for the first time.
Armour turned 50 in February and began his first season on the PGA Tour Champions soon after.
“(It) took a while for me to get used to it again. As soon as I had more reps under me, you know, it felt normal,” Armour said. “I just didn’t play enough my 49th year, and then when I turned 50 I was still kind of in dad mode, and now I’m in play and grind (mode) and I’m enjoying the processes again of trying to get better.”
He had a slow start to his season, but in his past five starts he has three top-five finishes and hasn’t placed lower than T14.
“I’m not going to (call it my) best round yet,” said Armour, who hit 13 of 14 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation. “But definitely satisfied with especially how I rolled it, because you’re going to get some bumps out here because of the weather, how much rain we had. The putter felt really good.”
Goydos and Pampling also enjoyed birdie-fests while limiting themselves to one bogey apiece. Goydos is 62 and two strokes away from shooting his age.
He’s hunting for his sixth PGA Tour Champions title and his first since 2017.
“A guy like Ernie Els can win this tournament with his B game. I have to have my A-plus game and good things to happen,” Goydos said. “That’s kind of the difference between the talent. Tiger (Woods) talked about winning tournaments with a C game. My C game misses every single cut for the rest of (my) life. So for me, it needs to have some good things happen to have those low scores.”
Pampling started on the back nine and holed an eagle putt at the par-5 14th. He sat at 9 under par through 15 holes but went bogey-par-par to finish up.
“Obviously the tees are up a little bit, but hit driver, 4-iron,” Pampling said of his eagle. “That was one of the big putts. That was like a maybe 25-, 30-footer. So, yeah, just rolled perfect; went straight in. Yeah, first one for the year as well, so there is a lot of firsts this week.”
Vaughn Taylor, Billy Mayfair and Australian Michael Wright are tied for fourth at 7-under 65.
Defending champion Tommy Gainey opened with a 3-under 69.

KEITH MITCHELL SHARES BAYCURRENT LEAD AFTER SECOND-ROUND 65
Keith Mitchell collected eight birdies on Friday and joined Jacob Bridgeman atop the leaderboard at the Baycurrent Classic in Yokohoma, Japan.
Mitchell’s 6-under round of 65 at Yokohama Country Club included a pair of bogeys and moved him to 11-under with Bridgeman, whose second-round 68 included four birdies and one bogey.
The co-leaders are two strokes ahead of Ben Kohles (62 on Friday), Zach Bauchou (64), Max Homa (68) and Mac Meissner (68) at 9-under. Kohles posted the low round of the tournament so far with seven birdies and an eagle at the par-5 sixth hole.
Three players enter the weekend three shots off the lead, with Justin Thomas and Germany’s Stephan Jaeger both carding a 65 on Friday and Australia’s Min Woo Lee delivering his second straight round of 67.
Mitchell enjoys playing in front of the enthusiastic gallery at the PGA Tour’s lone stop in Asia.
“I love it over here. It’s always on my schedule,” he said. “I love Japan. I think just the energy here just helps me play a little bit better for some reason.”
Bridgeman, the first-round leader, was not as sharp after an opening-round 63.
“I didn’t quite have the same game I had yesterday today so it was a little bit more difficult to make as many birdies, but I think I kind of realized that early and was able to play kind of conservative and plot my way around the course,” he said. “Navigated it pretty good, was able to post a good number.”
Homa strung together five consecutive birdies on holes Nos. 2-6 but a double bogey at the par-14 14th hole kept him two shots behind the leaders as he seeks his first PGA Tour win since 2023.
“The par I made on 15 was great. I was a little bit rattled coming off 14,” Homa said. “I hit a horrible tee shot on a pretty easy hole, hit what I thought was a great second shot, got the flyer wrong and just again didn’t panic, hit a good chip up there, made a 10-, 12-footer. Just little things like that, that one stuck out.”
Defending champion Xander Schauffele leads a group of eight players tied for 30th at 3-under after shooting 69 in a roller-coaster round with five birdies and three bogeys.
Top Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama is in the same group as Schauffele following a 1-over 72 that included four bogeys.
Seventy-two players are competing in the no-cut tournament with a prize pool of $8 million, with the winner taking home $1.44 million.

INDIANA PACERS
Game Preview
After opening the preseason earlier this week at Iowa State, the Pacers return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse to host the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night.
Wednesday’s preseason opener was a special night for star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who not only returned to his alma mater but also played his first competitive game in 16 months. The starters played the first half and Haliburton looked solid, finishing with seven points and six assists with only one turnover in 16 minutes of action.
The Pacers beat Minnesota 123-112 and got strong contributions from the entire roster. One of the standout performances was fourth-year forward Jarace Walker, who dished out 10 assists and was a team-best +18 on the night.
Indiana now faces another good test in a Hawks team that won 46 games and finished sixth in the East a year ago. 6-foot-8 forward Jalen Johnson had a breakout season for Atlanta last season, earning his first All-Star nod and finishing top-20 in the league in scoring (22.8 points per game), seventh in rebounding (10.3), and fifth in assists (7.9).
The Hawks have played two games so far this preseason, losing to 132-123 to Memphis on Monday and winning 123-116 in San Antonio on Thursday. Johnson did not play against the Spurs, but was listed as out simply for rest and for injury-related reasons.

INDIANA SWIMMING
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 2/5 Indiana swimming and diving split its first dual meet of the season Friday (Oct. 9) afternoon inside the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center, as its men’s and women’s teams both defeated No. 16/NR Northwestern but fell to No. 1/3 Texas.
The swimmers competed in the short course meters format – as opposed to the default short course yards – as some athletes prepare for their short course World Championship trials.
Liberty Clark led the team with three event wins, in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter freestyle. Clark kicked off her day defeating Texas’ Nikolett Padar in the 200 free at the touch with a 1:53.00, just 29 hundredths faster than the Longhorn. She then was the lone swimmer in the 50 free under 24 seconds, hitting the wall in 23.92. Twenty minutes later out of a break, Clark won the 100 free in 51.61 – 1.6 seconds faster than Texas’ Erin Gemmell.
Indiana swept the butterfly events between Raekwon Noel and Alex Shackell. Shackell dominated her races, winning the 100 fly by 1.58 seconds (56.57) and the 200 fly by over two seconds (2:03.96). Noel won the 200 with a time of 1:52.02, and the 100 with a 50.97.
Josh Bey won a pair of close races to join the multi-win club. In the 200-meter breaststroke, Bey trailed two Longhorns at the halfway mark but finished with splits of 31.96 and 32.10 to touch in 2:04.48 in front of Texas’ Campbell McKean (2:04.95) and Luka Mladenovic (2:05.87). He had another strong back half in the 200 IM, his 33.16 breast split really making the difference as he jumped two spots and finished first with a 1:55.11 in front of Texas’ Rex Maurer (1:55.37).
Miranda Grana continued her great start to the season with a sweep of the women’s backstroke events. Grana posted a 56.93 in the 100-meter backstroke, 1.31 seconds in front of UT’s Sarah Rodrigues, and a 2:03.68 in the 200-meter backstroke, beating Audrey Derivaux at the touch by 49 hundredths.

PURDUE SWIMMING
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Four event victories and a pair of times for freshmen that went into the program record book highlighted a rainy opening session of the two-day Seminole Fall Classic for Purdue Men’s Swimming & Diving.
The meet has been heavily impacted by the incoming Hurricane Isaias while being held outdoors at Florida State’s Morcom Aquatics Center. Georgia Tech opted not to travel as originally planned, altering the meet field to Purdue vs. FSU on the men’s side and the Seminoles vs. Iowa State on the women’s. Friday’s session was moved up from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m.
Including the Boilermakers’ 1-2 finish in 3-meter diving, the team scoring at the midway point of the 22-event invitational is believed to feature FSU holding a 166.5-160.5 lead. Zach Welsh and Kaden Springfield teamed up for the 1-2 finish in the lone diving event Friday.
Purdue was also victorious in the 200 medley relay to open the meet as well as the 50-yard events contested Friday – Jānis Dzirkalis in the 50 freestyle and Chris Bartmess in the 50 breaststroke. Bartmess and Dzirkalis also teamed with Luca Scampicchio and Nathaniel Thomas on the victorious relay. Their time of 1:26.18 was good for ninth place in the team record book. There were four different nations represented on the relay – Italy, USA, Jamaica and Latvia.
“It’s an exciting meet and the circumstances couldn’t be more unique, what with copious rain, impending hurricane, and outdoor swimming for us at least. We love it,” Purdue head coach Alex Jerden said. “Competitively, this team knows where it wants to go and we’re very much looking forward to this matchup. Many of these races today were so close and we were glad to find success in several of our efforts. Impressed by FSU, as it’s clear the Noles have got great depth and found a way to get the edge on us down the stretch.
“Tomorrow, if the weather cooperates, I’m excited to see how we bring the energy and if we can capitalize on the little things. More fun ahead, for sure!”
Action is slated to conclude beginning Saturday at 10 a.m., weather permitting. Scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast for Saturday morning and the area is currently in the midst of a tropical storm warning.
Freshman Aran Bissett impressed in both of his runner-up showings Friday, moving into seventh place in team history with a time of 1:35.50 in the 200 free. Jerden believed it was possible Bissett’s time of 47.87 in the 100 individual medley could be a team record. He posted it in a non-NCAAs sponsored event that is featured at a meet very infrequently and thus no official time record stands.
Bissett and Evan Mackesy finished 2-3 in the 100 IM, a feat duplicated by freshman Tom Jhang and junior Charles Lee in the 200 breast.
Along with swimming on both of Purdue’s top-performing relays Friday, Scampicchio moved into 11th place in team history with a time of 47.20 as the runner-up in the 100 butterfly.
Dzirkalis posted an event-best 50 free split of 19.08 on the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay. That matched his team record time in the 50 from last season, albeit not being his fastest 50 on a relay split since becoming a Boilermaker in the fall of 2025.
Saturday’s order of events features: 100 medley relay, 500 free, 50 fly, 100 breast, 200 back, 100 free, 200 fly, 50 back, 200 IM, 200 free relay and 1-meter diving.

NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL
GAME DAY AT A GLANCE
Saturday afternoon will mark the 40th meeting between Notre Dame and Stanford. The series stands at a 25-14-0 Notre Dame advantage all-time.
The Irish are 3-1 against the Cardinal under Freeman.
The two teams last faced off at Notre Dame Stadium on October 12, 2024, when the Irish defeated the Cardinal 49-7.
The Irish are 21-4 against current ACC opponents under Dick Corbett Head Coach Marcus Freeman. Freeman has five wins against ACC opponents in every season he has coached at Notre Dame.
The two teams play for the Legends Trophy, which is a combination of Irish crystal and California redwood.
The Notre Dame Club of the San Francisco area first presented the trophy in 1989.
IRISH WEAR GREEN PRESENTED BY SOFI
Notre Dame is 7-1 in Irish Wear Green contests since 2018 and is 3-1 when wearing green jerseys in Irish Wear Green games.
The Irish are 8-1 when wearing green jerseys since 2010.
Most recently, Notre Dame was victorious over Boise State by a 28-7 score in a 2025 early-season matchup as the Irish donned green jerseys and green pants in the annual Irish Wear Green contest.
This year’s jerseys will feature the recently introduced football leprechaun logo on the shoulders. It is the first time a sport specific leprechaun will be showcased on the Notre Dame Football uniform. The last time a leprechaun logo appeared on the shoulders of a football uniform was on the Irish green 2015 Shamrock Series jerseys that were worn in Fenway Park against Boston College.
The football leprechaun was the first in a series of sports-specific leprechauns unveiled by the University of Notre Dame Athletics Department in August of 2025. The mark was designed in-house by Fighting Irish Media, with input from the many around Notre Dame’s athletic programs and inspired by photos, fundamentals and running styles from former and current student-athletes.
NOTRE DAME STADIUM NOTES
Notre Dame Stadium has been the home of Irish football since 1930. The Irish are in their 98th season at Notre Dame Stadium in 2026.

NOTRE DAME HOCKEY
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame completed the opening weekend sweep over Niagara, defeating the Purple Eagles by a score of 4-0 in front of a packed crowd inside Compton Family Ice Arena on Friday evening.
Nicholas Kempf was the first star of the game, posting a 24-save shutout to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Evan Werner scored his first two goals of the season to go along with goals from Pano Fimis and Will Belle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was scoreless after the opening 20 minutes of play, as neither the Irish or Purple Eagles were able to find the breakthrough goal in the first period.
Notre Dame killed multiple penalties in the first period to keep the contest at 0-0 heading into the first intermission
The Irish offense came alive in the second period, scoring twice to open a 2-0 lead over the visitors.
Danny Nelson was the catalyst to the opening goal, as the senior picked up a loose puck just inside Notre Dame’s defensive zone and carried it down the left before picking out Werner, who crashed the crease and scored to break the deadlock at the 13:25 mark.
Just over two minutes later the Fighting Irish doubled their lead, this time off a shot from distance from Fimis. Jimmy Jurcev passed to the sophomore, who unleashed a shot from just inside the blue line for the goal.
The Irish did a great job of controlling the final 20 minutes of regulation, limiting quality scoring opportunities. In the final three minutes Notre Dame tacked on two more goals, as Belle and Werner each added empty netters.

Elise Ward tallied five kills, four coming in the first set. She also posted four digs.

On the Record with Head Coach Kyle Shondell
“We saw some definitive upticks tonight compared to Wednesday. Our defensive effort was better, and Chase was able to have a really strong match. The reports of Creighton’s decline are greatly exaggerated. We outdug them and served the ball pretty well, yet they still likely played their best match of the season. We have 10 more BIG EAST matches and plenty of time to do exactly what we planned to do at the start of the year; we get back to work next week.
Set 1 Creighton (25-17)
Butler opened the match trading points early, sparked by kills from both Lemming and Ward. However, Creighton maintained its aggressive attack, opening up a 15-9 lead at the halfway point. The Bulldogs battled late behind kills from Nix, Ward, and Lemming, but the rally fell short as Creighton took set one, 25-17.
Set 2 Creighton (25-18)
The Bulldogs again traded points with the Bluejays early in the second sets, but trailed 15-10 at the midway mark. Butler continued to chip away with late kills from Durbin, but Creighton held off the push to seal the set 25-18.
Set 3 Creighton (25-20)
Creighton jumped out to an early 10-6 lead in set three. Butler fought back to tie the frame at 14-14 following kills from Lemming and Carly Slusser. However, the Bluejays reclaimed a 15-14 edge at the midpoint. Butler kept pushing late behind more fire power from Lemming, but Creighton secured the 25-20 win to complete the match victory.

BALL STATE FIELD HOCKEY
KENT, Ohio – In a gritty defensive battle at Murphy-Mellis Field on Friday afternoon, the Ball State field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to Kent State. Despite a furious fourth-period offensive surge from the Cardinals (3-9, 1-4 MAC), the Golden Flashes (3-9, 2-3 MAC) held strong to protect their lead and secure the conference victory.
A defensive battle defined the first quarter as Ball State dominated the offensive circle and earned three penalty corners, but just couldn’t punch it in. The intense defensive standoff pushed into the second period with both teams hunting for the icebreaker. With the clock winding down, Kent State capitalized on a crucial penalty corner with mere seconds left, seizing a dramatic 1-0 edge right before halftime.
Ball State earned the first corner after halftime. Although the Cardinals could not score directly off the insertion, they still capitalized moments later when Lauren Lewis scored an aggressive solo goal to tie the match at 1-1.
With emotions running high, Kent State drove deep into Ball State territory, earned a critical corner kick, and buried a goal to reclaim the lead. The Golden Flashes’ midfield attack consistently disrupted the Cardinals, preventing Ball State from finding an equalizer before the final 15 minutes of play.
The final quarter belonged entirely to Kent State on both offense and defense. A two-goal surge from the Golden Flashes broke the game wide open, extending their lead to 4-1. Though the Ball State Cardinals fought hard until the final whistle, they simply couldn’t close the gap.
The Ball State field hockey team is set to host back-to-back #MACtion contests next weekend against UMass (Friday) and Miami (Sunday) at the Briner Sports Complex. Both games will begin at 1 pm ET.

PURDUE FT. WAYNE VOLLEYBALL
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Despite 20+ kills from Trinity Rye and Riley Rosneck, the Purdue Fort Wayne women’s volleyball team dropped its first Horizon League match of the season on Friday night (Oct. 9) with a 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17) loss to Youngstown State.
It was the Mastodons’ annual Pink Out contest, which saw the ‘Dons wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Rye and Rosneck were the highlight of the show for either side. Rye (25) and Rosneck (20) were the only two players from either team to reach 20 kills. It was the first time with two ‘Dons recording 20+ kills since 2015.
Youngstown State’s offense was effective enough, edging the Mastodons in each of the sets the Penguins won. They hit .333 in set one, .243 in set two and .375 in set three. The Mastodons did hold the visitors to .161 in the second set while hitting .256 themselves, good enough to win the frame. Rosneck and Rye combined for 11 of the Mastodons’ 16 kills in the second set.
The Penguins finished with a .270 hitting percentage, but Becky Barrett still managed 25 digs, matching a season-high. Haiden Means also dished out a career-high 50 assists on the Mastodons’ 61 kills. The ‘Dons had a 61-47 advantage in the kill category.
The Mastodons were at their best in the early moments of the match when they went up 7-1. From there though, YSU managed to tie up the contest at 11, and went on to win it 25-22.
With their first loss in league play, Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 10-8, 4-1 Horizon League. Youngstown State improved to 7-9, 3-2. The Mastodons and Penguins will square off again on Saturday (Oct. 10) at 2 p.m. Rosneck enters tomorrow’s contest needing just seven kills for 1,000 in her career.

CHICAGO – Lyla Fisher recorded a career-high 18 kills as the University of Evansville volleyball team fell to UIC by a final of 3-1 on Friday evening inside Credit Union 1 Arena.
Fisher’s tally surpassed her previous high of 16 kills. She hit .289 in the contest. Wren Jones added 12 kills. Carsyn Kelley finished with 39 assists and 13 digs while Brooke Herdes had 14 digs, five assists, and two aces. Gabi Peter led UIC with 12 kills.

Set 2 – UIC 25, UE 14
In a similar fashion to the opening frame, UIC opened a 4-1 lead out of the gate. Once again, it was Laubach who got Evansville on track with her kill cutting the deficit to one at 6-5. Lyla Fisher registered a pair of early kills. Two more Fisher kills would get UE back within one once again at 12-11. That is when the Flames made their move as they outscored the Aces by a 13-3 tally to take a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3 – UE 25, UIC 23
Lyla Fisher’s 10th kill of the contest opened the set and helped UE open a 4-1 lead. Wren Jones picked up two kills during the early stretch. The lead reached four at 9-5 on an error before the Flames stormed back with four in a row to tie the score. Evansville responded with three in a row including a Brooke Herdes ace while the Flames tied the score with a run of their own.
Ryan Scheu picked up a kill to help the Aces wrestle away an 18-15 edge before yet another rally by the Flames tied the score at 18-18. Carsyn Kelley and McKenzie Laubach combined on a block that helped the Aces go up 21-19, but the Flames came back once again with two more to knot the score. In the end, it was a kill from Jones that clinched the set.
Set 4 – UIC 25, UE 18
UIC jumped out to a 3-0 edge while the Aces slowly made their way back. Fisher picked up a kill that cut the deficit to one at 9-8 while another Scheu kill made it a 12-11 game in favor of the Flames. Another ace by Brooke Herdes tied the score for the first time at 15-15, however, UIC fought back to take a 23-16 edge before clinching the match with a 25-18 win.
