As we approach the second week of the high school football season, more high-profile games are set to kick off this Friday. Will we top week one? It looks promising! Here are our top picks for week two:
**COACHES RANKINGS**
**Games on INDIANA SRN this week:**
**#12 4A Leo vs. #3 4A Bishop Chatard:** Leo dominated Fort Wayne Wayne with a decisive 42-0 victory. They led 28-0 at halftime and held Wayne to -20 rushing yards and just 48 total yards of offense. The Lions rushed for 147 yards in total. Meanwhile, Bishop Chatard impressed with a 35-7 win over Lafayette Jeff, limiting the then top-5 Bronchos to 213 total yards. The Trojans showcased a balanced offense, rushing for 151 yards and passing for 235. Quarterback Harrison Odom excelled, going 19-for-28 for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns, while running back Danny Adams rushed for 127 yards on 29 carries. This will be the first meeting between these two schools.
**Shortridge vs. Covenant Christian:** Both teams opened with victories in week one. Shortridge beat Trinity Lutheran 49-6, accumulating 349 total yards, led by quarterback Terril Stallworth, who contributed 152 passing yards and three touchdowns. Shortridge averaged 9.3 yards per carry. Covenant Christian secured a narrow win at Park Tudor, finishing at 15-14. They relied on a strong ground game, rushing for 163 yards with Josiah Hawk leading the charge with 139 yards and one touchdown. Covenant currently leads the series 3-0, having won last season’s encounter 14-0.
**Indian Creek vs. Heritage Christian:** Heritage Christian looks to bounce back after losing to Speedway 47-19 in their opener. The Eagles were one-dimensional, rushing for 253 yards but failing to gain any passing yards. In contrast, Indian Creek topped Western with a strong performance, winning 52-7. This game was largely settled by halftime, with Indian Creek ahead 38-0. The Braves accumulated 381 total yards while holding Western to only 107. Quarterback Evan Clark led the Braves with 158 passing yards and four touchdowns. This matchup marks the first meeting between the two schools.
**Brebeuf vs. Mt. Vernon:** Brebeuf faced a high-scoring loss against North Central, falling 42-37 after allowing 21 fourth-quarter points. The Braves’ quarterback, Keegan Bouwkamp, passed for 257 yards and four touchdowns. Mt. Vernon, on the other hand, won against Kokomo 21-12 in a hard-fought game, recovering from last season’s 0-10 record. They managed 184 rushing yards in their victory.

**#11 Ben Davis vs. #10 Avon:** The Giants kicked off their season with an impressive 33-27 win over Cathedral, establishing a 21-7 halftime lead before holding off a second-half comeback from the Fighting Irish. Avon dominated Decatur Central, winning 31-6, with a powerful ground game that saw them rush for 267 yards at an average of 8.9 yards per carry. Running back Andre Warfield II had a standout game with 149 rushing yards. Avon won both encounters against Ben Davis last season, 35-14 in the regular season and 23-21 in the sectional, although the Giants have a series lead of 13-8.
**#2 Carmel vs. #3 Westfield:** This matchup has all the elements of an instant classic. Carmel was dominant in their first game, defeating Fishers 47-0, leading 27-0 at halftime. Carmel’s balanced offense totaled 152 passing yards and 264 rushing yards, with quarterback Jackson Treadway completing 10 of 14 attempts for three scores. Their defense stifled Fishers, holding them to just 43 rushing yards and 60 passing yards. Westfield had a strong showing by defeating Homestead 49-21, with quarterback Cooper Melvin passing for 281 yards and three touchdowns, while the team added 159 rushing yards. Carmel defeated Westfield 34-10 in last season’s matchup, making the series record tied at 4-4.
**#1 4A East Central vs. #1 5A New Palestine:** This game features the top-ranked teams from their respective classes. East Central achieved a significant win over Lawrenceburg, shutting them out 21-0. While Lawrenceburg managed to rush for 203 yards, they were unable to score. East Central had 198 rushing yards but only 90 passing yards, with Ryan Minges leading the rush with 85 yards. New Palestine had a hard-fought battle against St. Francis, ultimately scoring 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to secure a 28-17 victory. The Dragons utilized a balanced offense, totaling 147 passing yards and 142 rushing yards. These two teams have met only twice before, with New Palestine winning the last encounter in 2025’s regional match 20-6.
**Guerin Catholic vs. #11 5A Pendleton Heights:** Guerin kicked off their season with a 22-14 victory over McCutcheon, led by quarterback Luke McDonald, who threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Pendleton Heights had a thrilling overtime win at Lebanon, edging 43-42, and rushed for 335 yards, with running back Joel Weaver contributing 177 yards and quarterback Brandt Gray adding 147 yards, totaling 228 yards of offensive production. Pendleton’s defense will need improvement this week, having allowed 356 yards of total offense in week one. Pendleton Heights currently leads the series, winning all four previous meetings, including last year’s match 34-0.
