INDIANA AND NOTRE DAME CANCEL HOME-AND-HOME SERIES SLATED TO BEGIN 2030 SEASON
Indiana and Notre Dame’s future home-and-home series has been cancelled, according to multiple reports. The Hoosiers and Fighting Irish had previously agreed to play a two-game series in the 2030-2031 seasons, beginning at Notre Dame Stadium in 2030 and returning to Memorial Stadium in 2031.
Notre Dame has reportedly agreed to a four-game series against USC beginning in 2030, presumably replacing the Indiana home-and-home. Indiana requested the cancellation of its series with Notre Dame, according to Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated.
It remains unclear how the Hoosiers plan to fill the Fighting Irish’s initial spot in the 2030 and 2031 non-conference schedule. Indiana currently has two non-conference games agreed upon for the 2030 season against Indiana State and Delaware, with both matchups in Bloomington. IU no longer has a third non-conference opponent in 2030 and zero non-conference opponents in 2031 following the cancellation of the Notre Dame series.
IU and Notre Dame initially agreed to a two-game series on April 19, 2021, per an IU Athletics press release.
The Hoosiers and Fighting Irish last played in the 2024 College Football Playoff First Round in South Bend. Notre Dame defeated Indiana 27-17 and finished as the 2024 national championship runner-up.
