Super Bowl 60 is set and it’s a rematch: The New England Patriots vs. the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots will seek their NFL-record seventh Super Bowl victory when they face the Seahawks on Feb. 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Led by Maye, coach Mike Vrabel and a stifling defense, the Patriots are back in the Super Bowl for the first time since Tom Brady and Bill Belichick won their sixth ring together seven years ago. The Patriots (17-3) beat the Denver Broncos 10-7 on Sunday in the AFC championship game to advance to their 12th Super Bowl. Darnold, Mike Macdonald and a suffocating defense have led the Seahawks to the big stage for the fourth time in franchise history. They’re seeking their second Lombardi. Darnold, a No. 3 overall pick in 2018 now with his fifth team, played one of his best games to lead the Seahawks to a 31-27 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC title game. He threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers. “That doesn’t matter to me,” Darnold said about the doubters he’s proven wrong. “I just come to work every single day with these guys. These guys in the locker room, that’s what it’s about to me, man. The way we’ve come to work ever since April in OTAs, training camp, one day at a time and we’re here. We did it.” It was a wacky finish when Brady and the Patriots beat Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll’s Seahawks 11 years ago. Brady threw four TD passes and rallied New England from a 10-point deficit to win the fourth of his seven rings when Malcolm Butler intercepted Wilson’s pass from the 1-yard line to secure a 28-24 victory on Feb. 1, 2015. Seattle fans still lament why Marshawn Lynch didn’t get the ball on a handoff at the 1. “We did not care,” Macdonald said about coming into the season as underdogs in the NFC West behind the Rams and 49ers. “It’s about us. It’s always been about us and what we do and now we’re going to the Super Bowl.” Maye scored on a 6-yard touchdown run in the second quarter in Denver after a critical turnover by Jarrett Stidham, who made his fifth career start filling in for injured Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. “The Pats are back, baby,” Maye said. “Now, gotta win one.” Playing through a snowstorm in the second half, Maye only threw for 86 yards and ran for 65. Stidham had 133 yards passing and one TD, one interception and one costly fumble. The 23-year-old Maye, a finalist for AP NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year, will become the second-youngest QB to start a Super Bowl behind Dan Marino. He’s the fourth second-year QB in the past seven years to lead his team to the NFL title game. Patrick Mahomes (2018) won it while Joe Burrow (2021) and Brock Purdy (2023) lost. Vrabel, who won three Super Bowls as a linebacker for the Patriots in the 2000s, turned the team around in his first season as coach. New England went from 4-13 last year under Jerod Mayo to 14-3. Vrabel is trying to become the first person to win a Super Bowl as a head coach and player for the same team. Tom Flores, Mike Ditka, Tony Dungy and Doug Pederson won Super Bowls playing for one team and coaching another. “I can’t tell you how proud I am to be associated with these guys and this organization,” said Vrabel, who is a finalist for AP NFL Coach of the Year. “I won’t win it. It’ll be the players that’ll win the game, I promise you. It won’t be me that’ll win it and I promise you I’ll do everything that I can and our staff to have them ready for the game.” No team has played in the Super Bowl more than the Patriots, who are 6-5. They’re tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most wins. It’s been a long road back to the top for New England, which came off consecutive four-win seasons and only had one winning season after Brady’s departure in 2020. The Patriots have averaged just 18 points per game in the playoffs, the fewest by any team to make the Super Bowl since the 1979 Rams, who averaged 15. New England’s defense has allowed just 26 points in the three games, an average of just 8.7 per game. The only team to allow fewer points in three playoff games before a Super Bowl appearance was the 2000 Ravens, who gave up 16. SUPER BOWL LX PRICES SOAR WITH SEAHAWKS-PATRIOTS MATCHUP SET The get-in price for Super Bowl LX continued to escalate in the opening 24 hours since the matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots was finalized. By Monday evening, the cheapest ticket for the Feb. 8 game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., was $6,620, according to ticket tracking service TicketData. That was 5.2% higher than shortly after the Seahawks won the NFC Championship on Sunday night, and nearly 9% higher than just before the kickoff of the Patriots’ AFC Championship Game in Denver. According to TicketData, the get-in price soared by 11% in just the past three days and is over 40% higher than right after last year’s Super Bowl matchup was set between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans. The average get-in price ultimately rose to a record of nearly $8,900 before dipping to just over $7,000 on game day. Last year’s Super Bowl prices eventually dropped to an average of $2,109 on game day, due in large part to New Orleans’ limited hotel capacity along with what was dubbed “Chiefs fatigue.” Seattle is currently a consensus 4.5-point favorite to beat New England in Super Bowl LX. PHILIP RIVERS REMOVES HIMSELF FROM CONSIDERATION FOR BILLS HEAD-COACHING JOB, AP SOURCES SAY ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Philip Rivers called time out, informing the Buffalo Bills he is withdrawing from consideration for the team’s head-coaching job, two people with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Monday. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the talks were private. The Athletic first reported the news. The 44-year-old quarterback, who came out of retirement last month and started three games with the Indianapolis Colts, interviewed with the Bills on Friday. Buffalo’s search process began on Wednesday, two days after Sean McDermott was fired following a nine-year tenure. Rivers was considered one of Buffalo’s more intriguing candidates, despite having no previous NFL coaching experience. In between rejoining the Colts this year after first retiring following the 2020 season, he spent five years coaching a high school team in his native Alabama. On the plus side, Rivers gained extensive offensive knowledge and made valuable connections with coaches and players over his 18 NFL seasons, the first 16 with the Chargers. He also has the respect of Josh Allen in having mentored the Bills quarterback, with the two also sharing the same agent. Allen is taking part in the interview process being led by general manager Brandon Beane and owner Terry Pegula. Including Rivers, Buffalo has met with seven candidates after interviewing Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski on Sunday. On Monday, the Bills had a scheduled interview with Broncos pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Davis Webb, a day after Denver lost to New England in the AFC championship game. The 30-year-old Webb is a former quarterback and spent three of his seven NFL seasons in Buffalo, mostly on the team’s practice squad. Allen spoke highly of Webb’s insights and influence during his time in Buffalo. Buffalo’s coaching search has no definitive timetable, with the Bills not revealing how many more candidates they expect to interview. NEW FALCONS COACH STEFANSKI ADDS FORMER DOLPHINS ASSISTANT AUKERMAN AS SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — New Atlanta Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski added former Miami Dolphins assistant Craig Aukerman as special teams coordinator on Monday as one of several moves to fill his staff. Aukerman was the Dolphins’ special teams coordinator in 2025 after serving as the Los Angeles Rams’ assistant special teams coach in 2024. He previously coached for seven seasons with the Tennessee Titans, including time as special teams coordinator and assistant head coach. Stefanski also added Robert Prince as wide receivers coach and Bob Quinn as senior adviser to the head coach. The Falcons also announced secondary coach Justin Hood, defensive line coach Nate Ollie and tight ends coach Kevin Koger have been retained. Falcons owner Arthur Blank fired coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot after an 8-9 finish, the team’s eighth consecutive losing season. The team began reworking its leadership team by adding former longtime quarterback Matt Ryan as president of football. Stefanski, the former Cleveland coach, and the new general manager will report to Ryan. On Thursday, Tommy Rees, who worked on Stefanski’s staff in Cleveland, was hired as offensive coordinator after Stefanski retained Jeff Ulbrich as defensive coordinator. Prince was the Dolphins’ wide receivers coach in 2025 after coaching the Dallas Cowboys’ receivers from 2022-24. He previously was wide receivers coach for Houston and Detroit. Prince began his NFL coaching career with the Falcons as an offensive assistant from 2004-06. Quinn worked with Stefanski in Cleveland as the Browns’ senior personnel/coaching executive from 2022-25 and as senior consultant to the club’s football operations in 2021. REPORT: CHARGERS DT TEAIR TART GETS 3-YEAR EXTENSION The Los Angeles Chargers are signing defensive tackle Teair Tart to a three-year extension, multiple outlets reported Monday. The Athletic reported the deal is worth up to $37.5 million, while ESPN reported Tart will receive $20 million guaranteed. Tart, 28, started all 17 games this season and tallied 32 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery while playing on a one-year, $4.5 million contract. Undrafted in 2020, Tart has recorded 140 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two interceptions in 81 games (53 starts) for the Tennessee Titans (2020-23), Houston Texans (2023) and Chargers. =========== COLLEGE FOOTBALL ACC CONFERENCE TITLE GAME WILL NO LONGER START OPPOSITE BIG TEN It appears the Atlantic Coast Conference has given up on trying to compete with the Big Ten off the football field, as well. A week after Big Ten champion Indiana completed a perfect season and won the national championship with a win over ACC stalwart Miami in the College Football Playoff championship game, the ACC on Monday announced changes to its scheduling in 2026. Perhaps chief among them: moving its conference championship game to a Saturday noon ET kickoff. The ACC on Monday released the schedules for all 17 of its institutions for 2026, the first season in which the conference will begin migrating toward a nine-game conference schedule for all schools. But the move of the conference title game was perhaps the most eye-opening announcement. The ACC for years has played its title game at 8 p.m. ET on Championship Saturday, in direct conflict with the Big Ten title game. The most recent Championship Saturday, on Dec. 6, an average of 18.3 million viewers watched Indiana beat Ohio State in the Big Ten title game while an average of 3.9 million watched Duke beat Virginia for the ACC crown. Additionally, the kickoff temperature for the ACC game in Charlotte, N.C., was 31 degrees. The hope is moving the game up eight hours in the day will make for a more pleasant outdoor atmosphere and improve attendance. The ACC will be the only Power 4 conference playing in the noon ET window. The last time the ACC played its championship game in the noon window was 2008. Among the other changes in the ACC schedule: ** A pair of international games in Week 0 with North Carolina State and Virginia opening the season — and conference play — in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 29 and North Carolina playing TCU in Dublin the same day. ** At least 19 games played on a Friday, with the potential to add more. Nebraska has won 24 in a row dating to last season, the longest win streak by any Big Ten team since Ohio State won 24 straight to start the 2010-11 season. Just like Arizona, the path to stay perfect is perilous. The Huskers visit Michigan on Tuesday night and play No. 9 Illinois on Sunday. “Heck of a team, man,” Northwestern coach Chris Collins said after the Huskers beat his own team a couple of weeks ago. “It’s really refreshing to watch the purity they play with, the joy they play with, the toughness they play with.” Gonzaga moved up two spots to sixth after narrowly avoiding an upset loss to San Francisco. The Bulldogs were followed by Michigan State, Iowa State, the Illini and Houston, which remained in the top 10 for a 23rd straight poll despite its loss to Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were right behind at No. 11 following wins over Baylor and their 90-86 triumph over the Cougars on Saturday. Purdue tumbled eight spots to No. 12 following back-to-back losses to UCLA and Illinois. BYU stayed put at No. 13, Kansas climbed five spots to No. 14 ahead of its matchup with BYU on Saturday, while Arkansas also moved up five spots to round out the top 15. St. John’s, the preseason No. 5, returned to the poll for the first time since dropping out in mid-December following wins over Seton Hall and Xavier, the latter giving coach Rick Pitino his 900th win. Georgia dropped out after a lopsided loss to Texas. Rising and falling North Carolina made the biggest climb this week, moving up six spots to No. 15 after wins over Notre Dame and then-No. 14 Virginia. Kansas and Arkansas were just ahead of the Tar Heels after moving up five spots apiece. Purdue’s eight-spot fall to No. 12 dropped the Boilermakers out of the top 10 for the first time this season. Alabama fell six spots to No. 23 following its loss to Tennessee, while Houston and Clemson each fell four spots after losses last week. Update on the NET The NET rankings released Monday, which the NCAA uses to help with its tournament selection, largely mirrors the Top 25, though with a few exceptions. It ranks UConn six spots lower, at No. 8, Texas Tech seven down at 18th and Arkansas five lower at 20th, while Illinois is three spots better at No. 6, Vanderbilt is five spots better at 13th and Florida is three better at 16th. It also ranks at Iowa at No. 21; the Hawkeyes are fourth among those also receiving votes in the AP poll. Top 25 voters put Miami of Ohio at 24th amid its perfect start to the season, while the NCAA ranking has the RedHawks at No. 48. Conference watch The Big 12 and the Big Ten continue to dominate the Top 25. Arizona leads three top-10 teams for the Big 12 and six in the Top 25, while Michigan, Nebraska, Michigan State and Illinois give the Big Ten four in the top 10 while Purdue makes it five in the Top 25. The ACC also has five ranked teams, the SEC four, the Big East two and the West Coast, Atlantic 10 and Mid-American one apiece. NO. 1 ARIZONA BARELY SURVIVES LATE CHALLENGE FROM NO. 13 BYU Brayden Burries scored 29 points as No. 1 Arizona hung on for an 86-83 win over No. 13 BYU in a Big 12 Conference showdown on Monday in Provo, Utah. Jaden Bradley added 26 points and Ivan Kharchenkov and Koa Peat each chipped in 10 points for Arizona (21-0, 8-0 Big 12), which prevailed despite seeing a 19-point second-half lead get trimmed to one in the final minute. The margin of victory was the Wildcats’ smallest of their so-far perfect season. AJ Dybantsa led BYU (17-3, 5-2) with 24 points, but he missed seven of his eight 3-point attempts. Richie Saunders racked up 18 points and Kennard Davis Jr. added 17 points as the Cougars lost for the second time in three games. BYU trailed 82-71 with 1:22 to play before going on a furious 12-2 run. Saunders’ offensive rebound led to Wright’s trey to cut Arizona’s lead to 82-75 with 56 seconds left. Keba Keita’s layup pulled BYU within 83-77 with 40 seconds remaining. Dybantsa hit two foul shots after a flagrant-1 foul on Burries. After Burries split a pair of free throws, Davis’ dunk and Keita’s layup pulled BYU within 84-83 with 15 seconds left. BYU forced a held ball with 11.6 seconds to go and took possession, but Motiejus Krivas blocked Wright’s jumper in the lane. Burries got the rebound, was fouled and made two free throws. Wright’s half-court heave at the buzzer was short. A 20-5 rally gave Arizona a 44-31 halftime lead. A Burries jumper got it started and tied the game at 26-26. Bradley had 10 points in the run on a layup and four short-range jumpers. In the first half, the duel between two freshmen, Burries and Dybantsa, lived up to the hype. Burries scored 19 points, made 6 of 10 shot attempts and hit all six of his free throws. While Dybantsa piled up 15 points, he hit only 4 of 11 field-goal attempts and 6 of 7 from the charity stripe. The Cougars opened the second half with an 8-2 scoring burst. Wright’s jumper and two treys from Davis cut Arizona’s lead to 44-36. The Wildcats took a 64-45 lead on a Krivas dunk with 10:53 remaining. NO. 4 DUKE DOMINATES NO. 20 LOUISVILLE FOR SEASON SWEEP Cameron Boozer scored 19 points for No. 4 Duke, which blew out visiting No. 20 Louisville for an 83-52 win Monday in Durham, N.C. The Blue Devils (19-1, 8-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) upped their winning streak to eight games and swept the two-game regular-season series from the Cardinals (14-6, 4-4). Duke won 84-73 at Louisville on Jan. 6 thanks to a big rally in the second half. This time, the Blue Devils did not need that late surge as they led 38-28 at halftime. Instead, they used the second 20 minutes to pull away and give Louisville its worst loss under second-year coach Pat Kelsey. Boozer added 10 rebounds to garner the 10th double-double of his freshman season and led Duke with four assists. Isaiah Evans scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half, while Patrick Ngongba scored 10 of his 15 in the first three minutes of the second half. Nikolas Khamenia made 5 of 6 shots, including 3 of 4 3-point attempts, for 14 points. Louisville did not have Mikel Brown Jr. available in its home game against Duke, but the freshman guard and preseason first-team All-ACC selection started Monday. However, the 6-foot-5 point guard, who returned Saturday after missing eight games with a back injury, struggled as he missed his first eight shots. Brown was not alone in his struggles. The Cardinals missed nine straight during a six-minute period in the first half. Despite that, they took a 25-24 lead on a Ryan Conwell 3-pointer with 4:30 to go before halftime. That was the last bucket Louisville made until there was 17:50 remaining in the second half. In between, the Cardinals went 0-for-10, and the Blue Devils outscored their guests 22-5. Conwell finished with 18 points, and J’Vonne Hadley added 11 for Louisville, which shot a season-low 29.6% (16 of 54) from the floor. Brown finished with a season-low seven points and missed 12 of his 13 shots. Duke also outrebounded Louisville 47-26. Georgia entered at No. 23 after its win over then-No. 11 Kentucky to give the conference the most teams ever in a single week in the 50-year history of the poll. Last season, the SEC had 10 teams in the men’s Top 25 for a few weeks. UConn remained the unanimous No. 1 choice from the 31-member national media panel. The Huskies are the lone undefeated team left in women’s college basketball. They have won 37 straight games dating to last season. UCLA moved up to No. 2 after South Carolina lost in overtime to Oklahoma, which jumped six spots to No. 10. The Gamecocks fell to third, leading a quartet of SEC squads. Texas was fourth, Vanderbilt fifth and LSU sixth. The Commodores suffered their first loss of the season, falling at South Carolina on Sunday. Louisville and Iowa were seventh and eighth. Michigan dropped two spots to ninth after losing to the Commodores in the Coretta Scott King Classic last week. Ranked Georgia The Lady Bulldogs are in the Top 25 for the first time since 2022. They started the season 14-0 in non-conference play for the first time in 16 years and already own victories over No. 17 Ole Miss and No. 18 Kentucky. The team was a staple in the Top 25 for years under former coach Andy Landers. Georgia replaced Nebraska, which fell out of the poll. Leading the way The four teams that played in the Women’s Champions Classic at Barclays Center in December haven’t lost a conference game yet. No. 15 Tennessee leads the SEC, Iowa is atop the Big Ten, Louisville is in front of the ACC and UConn tops the Big East. The four are a combined 35-0 in league play through Sunday. Conference supremacy After the SEC’s 10 ranked teams, the Big Ten is next with seven. The Big 12 has four teams in the Top 25. NHL REPORT: RANGERS TRADING D CARSON SOUCY TO ISLANDERS The New York Rangers are finalizing a trade to send defenseman Carson Soucy to the New York Islanders, The Athletic reported Monday. The return for the Rangers has not been confirmed. The Rangers are expected to hold Soucy out of Monday night’s game against the visiting Boston Bruins for roster management purposes. Soucy, 31, has three goals, five assists and 18 penalty minutes in 46 games this season, averaging 17:13 of ice time with 66 blocks and 71 hits. The Rangers acquired Soucy from the Vancouver Canucks at the 2025 trade deadline. The Alberta native has 95 points (30 goals, 65 assists) in 411 games with the Minnesota Wild, Seattle Kraken, Canucks and Rangers. The Wild drafted him in the fifth round in 2013. The Rangers are in the Eastern Conference cellar and team president and general manager Chris Drury recently sent a letter to fans about the team’s forthcoming plans. “This will not be a rebuild. That may mean saying goodbye to players that have brought us and our fans great moments over the years.” PENS’ BRYAN RUST FACES HEARING FOR ILLEGAL CHECK TO HEAD Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust faces a hearing with the league following Sunday’s illegal check to the head of Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser. The date and time have yet to be determined for the hearing. Rust received a minor penalty on the play, which occurred at the end of Pittsburgh’s 3-2 road win. Rust, 33, is in his 12th NHL season with the Penguins, who drafted the Michigan native in the third round in 2010. In 47 games this season, he has posted 39 points (18 goals, 21 assists). In 685 regular-season games, Rust has 476 points (221 goals, 255 assists) and is a two-time Stanley Cup winner. Bader split last season with the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies, batting .277 with 17 homers, 54 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 146 games. YANKEES CONFIRM 5-YEAR DEAL FOR OF CODY BELLINGER Cody Bellinger is officially back with the New York Yankees after the club announced a five-year deal with two player opt-outs for the former National League MVP on Monday. The Yankees did not release financial terms, but multiple reports last Wednesday indicated Bellinger would sign a five-year, $162.5 million contract with opt-outs after the second and third seasons, a full no-trade clause and a $20 million signing bonus. Represented by agent Scott Boras, Bellinger became a free agent after turning down his $25 million player option for 2026. Bellinger, 30, joined the Yankees in a December 2024 trade that sent right-hander Cody Poteet to the Chicago Cubs. He signed a three-year, $80 million deal with the Cubs before the 2024 season, with opt-outs after the first and second years. Bellinger batted .272 with 29 home runs, 98 RBIs and 13 steals last season. He played in 152 games, his most since his 2019 MVP campaign with the Los Angeles Dodgers. With one gold medal and two bronzes, Vonn joins a group of 33 returning American medalists. Closing ceremonies will take place on Feb. 22. =========== INDIANA RELEASES INDIANA PACERS GAME REWIND: PACERS 116, HAWKS 132 The Indiana Pacers took on the Atlanta Hawks in a matinee matchup on Monday as the contest was moved from 7:30 PM to 1:30 PM ET due to inclement weather. The Pacers welcomed Bennedict Mathurin back to the lineup as he returned following an 11-game absence due to a thumb injury. A 72-point second half from the Hawks pushed them past the Pacers, 132-116. Atlanta took didn’t take its first double-digit lead of the contest until early in the fourth quarter. Indiana made several pushes to cut the lead down to double digits, but the Hawks had a response each time. Indiana was efficient from deep through the first period of the game – the Pacers knocked down six of their 13 attempts in the first 12 minutes – but the Pacers made just four more triples for the rest of the game. They finished 10-for-35 from deep. Mathurin knocked down a 3-pointer for his first shot back, and Indiana led 21-15 halfway through the first period. He went on to hit his first four shots, and racked up 10 points off the bench in the first quarter. Indiana led after one, 38-34. The Pacers built the first double-digit lead of the game in the second quarter as they led 44-34 early. Atlanta used a 12-2 run to tie the game at 46, but a pair of Mathurin and-one opportunities kept the Hawks at bay. CJ McCollum hit a rhythm late in the second quarter. Indiana had its largest lead, 60-49, with under three minutes to play in the half when McCollum hit a trio of 3-pointers to bring the Hawks within four points, 62-58. McCollum led Atlanta into halftime with 17 points off the bench, and Mathurin’s 16 points led the Pacers. Jarace Walker and T.J. McConnell each contributed 10 points. Pascal Siakam settled in during the third quarter as he opened the period with seven points before the eight minute mark. His flurry of offense powered the Pacers into another double-digit lead, 78-68. Another run in the final two minutes of the third quarter had the Hawks right back within striking distance. Luke Kennard made a 3-pointer to bring the Hawks within one, 92-91, then hit a layup to take the lead on the following possession. Atlanta led, 93-92, for the first time since they led by two points 45 seconds into the game. The Hawks took a 3-point lead into the fourth quarter, 95-92. The Hawks took that groove from the third quarter and built a 10-point lead in the first two minutes of the fourth, 102-92. McConnell ended a run of 17 straight points by Atlanta as he knocked down two tries from the free throw line. Those free throws were part of a 6-0 Pacers run orchestrated by McConnell as he converted a fastbreak layup, then assisted an Isaiah Jackson dunk that forced a timeout from the Hawks. The Pacers were back within four points, 102-98. Another run from the Hawks pushed them back up by 12 points as Alexander-Walker began to heat up from deep. He hit two 3-pointers in the final frame – each gave Atlanta a double-digit lead after Indiana tried to make a push. The Hawks held on to defeat the Pacers, 132-116, behind a trio of 20-point scorers. McCollum led with 23 points, followed by Dyson Daniels with 22, and Alexander-Walker contributed 21 points. Pascal Siakam led the Pacers with 26 points and nine rebounds. The Pacers will return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Jan. 28, as they begin a four-game homestand gainst the Chicago Bulls at 7:00 PM ET. Inside the Numbers Atlanta outrebounded the Pacers for the game, 46-42, after Indiana held the advantage on the glass at halftime, 25-28. The Pacers made six 3-pointers in the first quarter, but just 10 overall. Indiana made 46 percent of its looks from the floor, but just 29 percent from 3-point range. In the six-paragraph post, Cooper thanked his family, coaches and teammates among others for their help and support during his four-year journey from Indianapolis prep star through two losing seasons at Indiana before becoming both a national champion and a Big Ten Conference champion. “Growing up in Indianapolis, I’m proud to represent my city and my state. These last four years in Bloomington have meant everything to me, ” he wrote, addressing Hoosiers fans. “This program pushed me, shaped me and gave me memories I’ll carry forever. With gratitude for this journey and faith in what lies ahead, I am declaring for the 2026 NFL draft.” Cooper’s announcement comes one week after the Hoosiers beat Miami to win their first national title and become the first major college football team to go 16-0 since the 1890s. He was originally recruited by Tom Allen and stuck around when Indiana made the coaching change that resulted in the hiring of Curt Cignetti. This season, Cooper led the Hoosiers in receptions (69) and yards receiving (937) and finished second on the team and tied for third in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 13 touchdown catches. But he is perhaps best known for his incredible leap and acrobatic toe tap to deliver the decisive 7-yard TD catch with 36 seconds left against Penn State to keep Indiana’s perfect season intact. Smith has 943 career assists. • Braden Smith also needs 34 points to become the 12th player in school history with 1,000 career points in Big Ten Conference play. ============ NOTRE DAME MEN’S BASKETBALL IRISH LOOK FOR FIRST RANKED WIN VS. #17/17 VIRGINIA ON TUESDAY SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame men’s basketball is coming off a feel-good win over Boston College, in a right-the-ship moment; meanwhile, Virginia just had its five-game win streak snapped in a ferocious second-half comeback by North Carolina. The two teams will clash inside Purcell Pavilion on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Two minutes before halftime, Virginia led North Carolina by 16 points, but the Tar Heels dominated the second half to escape with the 85-80 win. The loss ended Virginia’s five-game win streak. Virginia enters Tuesday’s matchup with a 16-3 record, 5-2 mark in ACC play & ranked 17th in the country. If Notre Dame were to emerge victorious, it would mark the first ranked win for Coach Shrewsberry at Notre Dame and the squad’s third potential Quad 1 win this season. Now, the Fighting Irish have not had much success in the overall series against the Cavaliers, trailing 5-18 all-time. However, Notre Dame has found success of late, winning two of three under Coach Shrewsberry. Associate Head Coach Kyle Getter also knows the Cavaliers quite well, serving on the staff there from 2018-23. Last time Virginia visited Purcell Pavilion, the Irish rolled to a 76-54 victory, marking the most points scored by Notre Dame all-time in the series. Then last season, Notre Dame stormed into Charlottesville and earned their first win ever inside JPJ Arena, 74-59. The Irish will have to slow down a potent UVA offense that has scored 80+ points in 14 of its games. They are averaging 83.8 ppg, which is the third most in school history. The Cavaliers also attack the boards relentlessly, ranking 11th in the nation & 1st in the ACC in rebounds per game (42.1). Defensively, UVA ranks 2nd in the country with their 6.2 blocks per game. Virginia is 0-3 this year if the opposing team can reach 80 points. COACHES VS CANCER Tuesday night is Notre Dame’s annual Coaches vs Cancer game. The staff will be sporting special patches on their quarterzips, while the players will be wearing special shooting shirts pregame that were drawn from kids within the Beacon Health System here in town. In addition, Will Czachowski, who has been with the team for most of the season, will get special recognition tomorrow. He will be in the starting lineup and presented with a signed ball at halftime. BOTTLING THAT 2ND HALF Notre Dame ended its five-game skid with a 68-64 victory over Boston College this past Saturday. The Irish erased a 13-point deficit, marking not only their largest comeback of the season, but their third double-digit comeback victory of the year. The Blue & Gold will look to bottle the offense it displayed in the second half, where they outscored Boston College, 44-29, shooting 50% from the field. The 44 points were the most ND has scored in any half of an ACC game this season. Braeden Shrewsberry finished with a game-high 22 points, marking his second-highest scoring output of the season and second ACC game with 20+ points. The junior found success driving into the paint & midrange, making 6-8 from two. Though Shrewsberry’s biggest shot of the night was a three-pointer with 1:26 remaining to push the Irish up five. Jalen Haralson recorded 11 of his 17 points in the second half and finished 8-13 overall on the night. Carson Towt reeled in 13 boards, seven offensive, to go along with his six points and two assists. FRESHMAN STANDOUT JALEN HARALSON Jalen is currently averaging 14.7 ppg, which ranks fifth amongst ACC freshmen. He’s registered double-digit points in 17 of his 19 games played. His scoring average during ACC play is just about the same at 14.9 ppg. Jalen is strong and shifty when attacking the rim, converting 70.1% from within 4.5 feet. The 6-7 guard shoots 51.5% overall from two-point range. In addition, he leads the team in FT attempts, averaging 5.6 per game. #1 Notre Dame fans know Cole Certa can get hot from three, but what people might not know is that the sophomore guard currently ranks 1st in the country in free-throw percentage. Certa started the year 27-27 from the stripe before he missed two at California. He is now an impressive 50-52 on the year as his 96.2% leads all Division I players in the country. The requirement from the NCAA to stay on the list is 2.5 made free throws per game. Now, to get into the Notre Dame record book, the requirement is 75 total FT attempts; if he can get to that, his FT% would rank first all-time for a season. The current placeholder is Steve Vasturia at 91.0%. YES SIR Coach Shrewsberry is looking for Sir Mohammed to continue to be a spark off the bench. From Jan. 13-21, spanning 3 games, Mohammed posted 3 straight games in double figures, which was a career best. He averaged 13.7 ppg on 54.8% (17-31) against Miami, Virginia Tech and North Carolina. Sir has thrived both in the paint (51.6%) and the midrange (50.0%) this season. In these two areas, he’s a combined 23-45. FEELIN’ FROSTY The temperatures in the South Bend area are frigid to say the least as a frosty air blankets the town. Yet, we are hoping for some more Frost inside Purcell Pavilion. Ryder Frost has found some recent success, recording 20 points over the last 3 games, draining 6-11 from three (.545). The freshman recorded his third game in double figures with 10 points at North Carolina, draining 3-4 from beyond the arc. KOEHLER AWARDED WITH FIRST START Freshman Brady Koehler was awarded his first career start at North Carolina after being Notre Dame’s best player at Virginia Tech on Jan. 17, scoring 15 of his career high 17 points in the 2nd half. Overall, he was 5-7 from the field, plus 2-3 from three & 5-6 from the stripe – all were personal bests. He’s shooting 47.4% from two-point range, but has been at his best in the midrange, where he’s 53.8%. But don’t let the 6-10 frame fool you, for Koehler can knock it down from three. He may own fewer three-point attempts than most of his Notre Dame teammates, but with that said, he boasts the 2nd best three-point shooting percentage at 40.7%. SHREWSBERRY LEADING FROM THREE Braeden Shrewsberry ranks 2nd in the ACC in three-point shooting percentage, knocking down 41.1%. That number also ranks 40th in the country. He’s converting 2.7 made threes per game, which ranks 5th in the league. Shrewsberry’s sweet spot? The corner three – where he’s draining 52.9%. Against Miami on Jan. 13, Braeden reached the 200 career made threes milestone, becoming the 14th Irish player all-time to do so. The conference office made the announcement Monday (Jan. 26). The junior guard from Trophy Club, Texas averaged 26.0 points per game over the Bulldogs’ two outings last week. Bizjack scored a game-high 28 points in Friday’s win over Marquette, the third-highest output of his Butler career. He added a season-high five rebounds along with four assists. Bizjack also scored a game-high 24 points in Butler’s Tuesday win over DePaul, making seven of his 11 attempts from the field. For the week, Bizjack shot 54 percent from the field, 47 percent from three-point range and 91 percent at the free throw line (19-for-21). He added 3.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. The weekly honor is the first of Bizjack’s career. He joins teammate Michael Ajayi, who has earned the BIG EAST weekly honor twice already this season. Nelson averaged 19.5 points per game while shooting 61.5 percent from the floor (16-of-26) and 50 percent from 3-point range (6-of-12). She added 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. The graduate student scored 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting against Cleveland State and followed it up with a 16-point, 7-of-14 effort at Northern Kentucky. This is Nelson’s third Player of the Week award. She is the only three-time winner this season. Purdue Fort Wayne has collected four Player of the Week awards this year, the most in the league. Avery has coached Fort Wayne Football Club since its inception in 2020 and is set to guide Fort Wayne FC into its first season of professional soccer in USL League One. In USL League Two, a pre-professional level, Avery coached Fort Wayne Football Club to Valley Division championships in 2023, 2024 and 2025 and appearances in the Central Conference Semifinals the past two seasons. Avery led the Valpo men’s soccer program from 2007 to 2019, accumulating a program-record 91 career victories. His 2009 team set a program record for victories in a single season with 10, a mark later matched by his 2016 side. The 2011 Horizon League Coach of the Year, Avery led a program that had enjoyed just one winning season in the 24 years prior to his arrival to six winning seasons in his first 10 years. His 2011 team won the regular-season Horizon League crown. While at Valpo, Avery coached 47 all-league honorees including five conference Goalkeepers of the Year. This is the second time this season McNally has swept the league awards. McNally played a key role in Marian’s 74-56 win over Bethel on Saturday, lighting up the scoreboard with a career-high performance of 39 points. McNally shot 17-24 from the field in the win, breaking her own Marian single-game scoring record in the process. He would have to wait until 1949 for his next job as a manager with the New York Yankees, 1949-1960. January 27, 1963 John Clarkson, Elmer Flick, Sam Rice and Eppa Rixey are elected to the Hall of Fame. A tall left-hander, Eppa Rixey won 266 games in his 21-year career, which was split between the Phillies and Reds. Rixey was a fine athlete, despite his awkward size. He won 20 games four times, three times for Cincinnati, leading the National League with 25 in 1922. He pitched effectively until he was 42 years old, using his pinpoint control to keep the ball in play. Despite languishing on losing teams much of his career (they were .484 in games in which Rixey did not get the decision). Thirteen hits from 3,000 is a lot more than Sam Rice could have been expected to accomplish considering his tragic pre-baseball life, the fact that he came up as a pitcher, and that he didn’t secure a full-time major league job until he was 26 years old.
