Labaron Philon Jr. scored a season-high 35 points and added seven assists and No. 25 Alabama overcame a 14-point deficit for a wild 117-115 double overtime victory over No. 20 Arkansas on Wednesday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Crimson Tide prevailed despite yielding 49 points, a freshman school record, to the Razorbacks’ Darius Acuff Jr.
Aiden Sherrell had a season-high 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Amari Allen logged 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Crimson Tide (19-7, 9-4 Southeastern Conference), who have won five straight. Meleek Thomas put up 24 for the Razorbacks (19-7, 9-4), who had won three in a row. Acuff and Thomas each made six 3-pointers.
Houston Mallette made a 3-pointer to give Alabama a 117-113 edge with 51 seconds left in the second OT. Trevon Brazile’s dunk brought Arkansas within two before Acuff missed a floating layup in the final seconds.
No. 4 Arizona 75, No. 23 BYU 68
Reserve guard Anthony Dell’Orso scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Wildcats to a victory over the Cougars in Tucson, Ariz.
Arizona (24-2, 11-2 Big 12) snapped a two-game skid after winning its first 23 games, while BYU (19-7, 7-6) has lost five of its last seven games. Ivan Kharchenkov chipped in 18 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats, and Jaden Bradley tallied 12 points and 10 assists.
AJ Dybantsa finished with 35 points for the Cougars, shooting 13 of 28 from the floor. Robert Wright III recorded 13 points and Kennard Davis Jr. posted 10.
Creighton 91, No. 5 UConn 84
Josh Dix scored 21 points and Nik Graves added a season-high 18, lifting the Bluejays to an upset victory over the Huskies in Storrs, Conn.
Dix drained three shots from 3-point range and added eight rebounds on a night when a moment of silence was observed prior to the game in memory of his mother Kelly. She died from colon cancer on Feb. 4. Fedor Zugic had 14 points and Blake Harper added 12 for Creighton (14-13, 8-8 Big East).
UConn’s Braylon Mullins scored 25 points and Silas Demary Jr. added 17 to go along with nine assists. Tarris Reed Jr. collected 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Huskies (24-3, 14-2), who raised former center Emeka Okafor’s No. 50 jersey to the rafters at Gampel Pavilion.
No. 8 Kansas 81, Oklahoma State 69
Darryn Peterson scored 23 points as the Jayhawks cruised to a win over the Cowboys in Stillwater, Okla.
Bryson Tiller contributed 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for Kansas (20-6, 10-3 Big 12). Tre White tallied 16 points and Elmarko Jackson pitched in 14 points. Peterson played just three second-half minutes as the Jayhawks won for the ninth time in 10 games.
Parsa Fallah led Oklahoma State (16-10, 4-9) with 21 points. Anthony Roy added 16 points as the Cowboys lost their fourth straight game.
No. 10 Illinois 101, Southern California 65
Andrej Stojakovic returned from a two-game injury absence to put up 22 points, leading seven double-figure scorers for the Fighting Illini in a pounding of the Trojans at Los Angeles.
David Mirkovic logged 14 points and Jake Davis went 4-for-4 from 3-point range while scoring 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds for Illinois (22-5, 13-3 Big Ten).
USC (18-8, 7-8) was without season-long leading scorer Chad Baker-Mazara, who was a late scratch. Ezra Ausar recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Jacob Cofie added 14 points.

Mario Saint-Supery had 14 points and six assists and Emmanuel Innocenti registered 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals as the Bulldogs (26-2, 14-1 WCC) defeated the Dons for the 35th consecutive time. Jalen Warley added 11 points for Gonzaga in a contest played at the Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors. Ike has scored 20 or more points in each of his past eight games.
Tyrone Riley IV scored 16 points and Mookie Cook added 12 for San Francisco (15-14, 7-9). Legend Smiley had 10 for the Dons, who have lost six of their past eight games.

St. John’s (21-5, 14-1 Big East) moved atop the conference, a half-game in front of No. 5 UConn. Zuby Ejiofor chipped in 10 points for the Red Storm.
Nigel James Jr. scored 25 points and Royce Parham put up 13 for Marquette (9-18, 4-12 Big East), which has lost four of its past five games.
Missouri 81, No. 19 Vanderbilt 80
Jayden Stone scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Tigers held off the Commodores in Columbia, Mo.
The Tigers (18-8, 8-5 SEC) led 65-44 with 8:41 left to play before the Commodores (21-5, 8-5) staged a furious rally that fell just short. T.O. Barrett and Trent Pierce scored 16 points each for Missouri, which won for the fifth time in seven games.
Tyler Tanner led Vanderbilt with 27 points, five assists and three steals. Devin McGlockton scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds. In the final second, Tanner intercepted an inbound pass and had his halfcourt heave roll around the rim and out at the buzzer.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay coach Doug Gottlieb received a one-game suspension from the Horizon League on Wednesday for comments he made while criticizing officials after a 75-72 loss to Milwaukee last Sunday.
Gottlieb slammed the table at one point and used an expletive in his postgame news conference while complaining about what he perceived as inconsistency in the officiating. Video of his news conference garnered attention on social media.
“Gottlieb’s postgame comments do not reflect the League’s values or sportsmanship expectations,” the Horizon League said in a statement announcing the suspension. “The Horizon League considers this matter closed and will have no further comment.”
The suspension will take effect for Friday when Green Bay (15-13, 10-7) visits Oakland (14-13, 10-6).
“I’d like to apologize to the Horizon League and the officials for my disparaging comments following Sunday’s game,” Gottlieb said Wednesday in a statement. “I understand and appreciate how difficult their job is, and respect what they do for the sport of basketball. I will be better moving forward.”
Green Bay was trailing 73-72 in the closing seconds when Milwaukee’s Stevie Elam stole the ball from Preston Ruedinger, who was driving to the basket. Elam then made two free throws with 1 second left.
On Milwaukee’s previous possession, Amar Augillard had driven to the basket, got a foul call and made two free throws to put the Panthers ahead. Green Bay believed a foul should have been called on Ruedinger’s drive as well.
“It’s the exact same play as the other end — could not be more similar,” Gottlieb said after the game. “And yet, every time they drove, it was a foul. And every time we did, it was mixed.”
Milwaukee went 30 of 37 on free-throw attempts, while Green Bay was 14 of 18. There were 23 fouls called on Green Bay and 18 on Milwaukee.
Gottlieb also wondered why he received a technical foul at one point in the game. Gottlieb said he didn’t curse, wasn’t demonstrative and hadn’t left his box before the technical was called.
“There was nothing, nothing that should have been called a technical foul,” Gottlieb said. “I know when I’ve earned one. I did not earn one.”

WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
WOMEN’S TOP 25 ROUNDUP: NO. 20 TEXAS TECH BLITZES NO. 15 BAYLOR
Snudda Collins came off the bench for 23 points, Bailey Maupin added 22 and No. 20 Texas Tech overpowered No. 15 Baylor 87-56 on Wednesday in Lubbock, Texas.
The Lady Raiders (24-4, 11-4 Big 12) led from start to finish as they bounced back from a Saturday loss at Oklahoma State. Sarengbe Sanogo and Gemma Nunez each put up 10 points for Texas Tech, which shot 55.7% from the floor.
Darianna Littlepage-Buggs and Taliah Scott tallied 13 points apiece for the Bears (22-6, 11-4), who are 3-3 since an eight-game winning streak.
Ahead 22-15 after one quarter, Texas Tech began the second period with a layup from Sanogo and a 3-pointer from Maupin. The lead never dropped into single digits again, topping out at 35 points.
No. 1 UConn 83, Villanova 69
Azzi Fudd scored 25 points and sank 4 of 6 3-point attempts as the Huskies maintained their unbeaten record with a victory over the host Wildcats.
Sarah Strong compiled 21 points and 12 rebounds for UConn (28-0, 17-0 Big East), which has won 44 consecutive games dating back to last season’s national championship squad. The Huskies shot effectively from 3-point range (8 of 15, 53.3%) and from the floor overall, 52.5%.
Jasmine Bascoe logged 26 points and Denae Carter had 21 for Villanova (21-6, 14-4), which had its six-game winning streak end. The Wildcats led by three at halftime, but a 12-2 UConn run to open the second half put the visitors in front for good.
No. 23 Minnesota 74, No. 10 Ohio State 61
A 27-13 surge in the third quarter sent the Golden Gophers past the Buckeyes in Minneapolis, giving Minnesota its ninth win in a row.
Ohio State (22-5, 11-4 Big Ten) was on top 29-26 at halftime, but Minnesota (21-6, 12-4) began the third quarter with two layups by Sophie Hart surrounding a 3-pointer from teammate Mara Braun. Tori McKinney followed with a layup to give the Golden Gophers a 35-29 lead, and the Buckeyes never caught up.
Hart and Braun paced Minnesota with 18 points each. Amaya Battle amassed 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Grace Grocholski had 12 points. Ohio State got 23 points from Jaloni Cambridge and 17 from Chance Gray.

SEAHAWKS LAUNCH FORMAL SALE PROCESS OF FRANCHISE
The Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks are for sale.
The estate of late owner Paul Allen announced Wednesday that it had “commenced a formal sale process” for the franchise.
Allen, who co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates, died in 2018 at age 65 due to complications of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
He bought the Seahawks in 1997, saving the team from potentially being moved to Southern California.
According to Forbes, Allen paid $194 million. The publication’s most recent valuation was $6.7 billion, 14th in the NFL.
The Washington Commanders are the NFL team that sold most recently, purchased in 2023 by a group controlled by Josh Harris for a record $6.05 billion. A Seahawks sale is expected to eclipse the $7 billion mark.
Allen’s sister, Jody Allen, is the executor of the estate and has been in charge of the Seahawks since his death. He also owned the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers, and a sale of that franchise is in progress.
Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon is under contract to buy that team in a deal valued at $4.25 billion.
Investment bank Allen & Co. and law firm Latham & Watkins have been selected to lead the Seahawks sale process.
In his estate plan, Allen directed that his sports franchises eventually be sold, with proceeds to philanthropic giving.
49ERS SELECTED FOR MEXICO CITY GAME IN 2026
Mexico City will feature the San Francisco 49ers in one of the nine NFL International Series games scheduled to be played during the 2026 regular season.
The league confirmed the 49ers — but not a game date or opponent — were ticketed as the featured attraction in Mexico. The 2026 schedule also sends San Francisco to Australia in a division game against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne.
San Francisco won its last game in Mexico City over the Arizona Cardinals in 2022 and also played there in 2005.
The full NFL schedule for the 2026 season is expected to be released in May, but the 49ers already know their travel schedule calls for 38,000 air miles, a league record according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The 49ers and Rams reportedly are playing the league’s first game in Australia in Week 1 of the regular season — Wednesday, Sept. 9 or Thursday, Sept. 10. The 49ers would play only eight true home games with one home game counting for their date in Mexico City.
Their known “home” game opponents who potentially could play the 49ers in Mexico City are the Eagles, Cardinals, Seahawks, Commanders, Vikings, Raiders, Broncos and Dolphins. San Francisco has a home game against the Rams, but the NFL is not likely to pair those teams for two international games this season.
CHIEFS SAVE $43M UNDER 2026 CAP BY ADJUSTING QB PATRICK MAHOMES’ CONTRACT
The Kansas City Chiefs saved more than $43 million under the 2026 salary cap by restructuring quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ deal this week.
Multiple outlets reported the specifics of the base salary conversion from $54.45 million to a 2026 signing bonus to bring his cap number for the coming league year down to $34.65 million from $78.2 million.
Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl winner, is recovering from surgery in December to repair a torn ACL and plans to be ready for the start of the 2026 season. He also has won two NFL Most Valuable Player awards.
The benefit of the restructure does have repercussions down the line.
Kansas City transfers more than $10 million to future cap hits on the Mahomes deal, which expires in 2031. His 2027 cap hit jumps to $85 million.
Mahomes, 30, signed a 10-year, $450 million extension in 2020. The Chiefs can counter the rising cap figures by extending his contract. Mahomes will be 36 when his current deal expires.
CARDINALS’ MIKE LAFLEUR DEFENDS OC CHOICE NATHANIEL HACKETT
First-time head coach Mike LaFleur defended his decision to hire Nathaniel Hackett as the Arizona Cardinals’ offensive coordinator.
Hackett, 46, has been a coach in the NFL for 17 seasons but his recent history was marred with perceived failures. He was fired as head coach of the Denver Broncos before completing the 2022 season, and was the New York Jets’ offensive coordinator in 2022 and the first month of the 2023 season before his play-calling responsibilities were removed and handed to Todd Downing.
Last season he was employed by the Green Bay Packers, and LaFleur’s brother Matt, with the title of defensive analyst.
“He’s been very successful and is very highly thought of, especially in our profession,” Mike LaFleur said.
Mike LaFleur, 38, is expected to call plays for Arizona. He did not have that duty as the Los Angeles Rams’ offensive coordinator — head coach Sean McVay is the play-caller — and said his choice for the OC role was a one-man list when he was named head coach of the Cardinals in January.
“If you guys believe one thing from this press conference, it is literally: I wanted him and nobody else. And he’s here,” Mike LaFleur said.
Hackett said he hears the criticism but chooses to tune it out.
“Learn from your adversity,” Hackett said. “Sometimes you gotta block out that noise. I’ve learned to block out that noise.”
Remaking the offense will be a cooperative effort. Arizona is working through decisions that will define the makeup of the roster, starting with quarterback Kyler Murray.
Murray is a candidate to be traded after missing 10 games last year with a foot injury, extending durability concerns that are multiplied because of his salary.
BEARS OFFICIALLY PROMOTE PRESS TAYLOR TO OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR
The Chicago Bears officially promoted passing game coordinator Press Taylor to offensive coordinator in a series of staff announcements on Wednesday.
The Bears also added running backs coach Eric Studesville, offensive analyst Will Lawing and offensive quality control coach Isaiah Ford to head coach Ben Johnson’s staff.
Taylor, 38, takes over for Declan Doyle, who accepted the same job with the Baltimore Ravens. Johnson is expected to continue to call the offensive plays.
Taylor, younger brother of Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, began his coaching career with the Philadelphia Eagles (2013-20) and Indianapolis Colts (2021) before becoming offensive coordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars for three seasons (2022-24).
Studesville, 58, began his NFL coaching career with the Bears from 1997-2000. He spent the past nine seasons with the Miami Dolphins, the last four as associated head coach and running backs coach.
Lawing, 40, spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Boston College. His NFL experience includes time with the Houston Texans (2014-20) and New England Patriots (2023).
Ford, 30, is making the move into coaching after catching 63 passes for 681 yards and two touchdowns in 32 games as a wide receiver with the Dolphins from 2018-21. Johnson was his position coach in Miami in 2018.

OLYMPIC HOCKEY
QUINN HUGHES’ OT GOAL SENDS TEAM USA INTO SEMIFINALS
Quinn Hughes scored at 3:27 of overtime to help the United States men’s hockey team reach the semifinals at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics with a 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Sweden on Wednesday.
Hughes banked a wrist shot off the inside of the right post from above the hash marks to end the 3-on-3 overtime.
It was the third quarterfinal of the day to go to overtime.
Dylan Larkin also scored and Connor Hellebuyck made 28 saves for the U.S., who will play Slovakia in the semifinals on Friday.
Mika Zibanejad scored the tying goal with 1:31 left in regulation and Jacob Markstrom made 38 saves for Sweden, which finished 2-2 in Milan.
The U.S. took a 1-0 lead at 11:03 of the second period after winning a faceoff in the Swedish zone.
The puck went back to Quinn Hughes at the left point. He passed to his brother Jack Hughes on his right and Jack took a one-timer that was redirected into the net by Larkin as he was stationed to the side of the crease.
Markstrom went to the bench for an extra skater with about 1:40 left in the third and Zibanejad scored a few seconds later with a one-timer from the left circle to tie it 1-1.
The Americans took the first six shots on goal in the game, before the Swedes responded with the next six and outshot Team USA 11-10 in a scoreless first period.
Sweden played without veteran defenseman Victor Hedman, who sustained a lower-body injury during warmups.
Canada scored a late goal in regulation before beating Czechia 4-3 in overtime in an earlier quarterfinal.
Finland then overcame a two-goal deficit late in regulation against Switzerland before winning 3-2 in overtime.
Canada and Finland will meet in Friday’s other semifinal.
CANADA RALLIES TO BEAT CZECHIA IN OT TO AVOID A STUNNING QUARTERFINAL EXIT AT THE OLYMPICS
MILAN (AP) — With the clock ticking down and Canada trailing Czechia with mere minutes left in an elimination game at the Olympics, even the most hardened players with gold medals and Stanley Cup rings started to feel butterflies.
“I never had a doubt, but it was getting a little nerve-wracking,” grizzled defenseman Drew Doughty said.
After losing captain Sidney Crosby to injury, Canada was staring down what would have been a stunning quarterfinal exit until Nick Suzuki tied it on a deflection goal with 3:27 left. Then Mitch Marner scored a little over a minute into overtime to beat Czechia 4-3 on Wednesday and send the tournament favorite into the semifinals.
“Everybody had complete faith in whoever was going over the boards,” coach Jon Cooper said. “It just felt it was like a matter of time. It was going to happen.”
The nerves were palpable when Canada fell behind with 7:42 remaining on Ondrej Palat’s goal on an odd-man rush off a pass from Martin Necas. Replays showed Czechia had six skaters on the ice, which Nathan MacKinnon said he and his teammates were aware of, even if on-ice officials didn’t notice.
Suzuki just about did it all on the tying goal, sending the puck out to the point to Devon Toews and then redirecting the defenseman’s shot that was going well wide past Lukas Dostal and into the net.
“Toewser gave me a perfect opportunity to tip it,” Suzuki said. “Just trying to put something on net there.”
Jordan Binnington denied David Pastrnak on a breakaway with 70 seconds left to send the game past regulation. It was the biggest of Binnington’s 21 saves in an excellent performance from Canada’s starter.
Then Marner summoned some more heroics playing for Canada, scoring his second OT goal in an international tournament in as many chances. Marner also scored in a similar fashion a year ago at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
“It’s the it factor, man: Mitch Marner’s got it,” Cooper said. “He doesn’t disappoint. Sometimes your hair falls out at times, but in the end, he never disappoints.”
Canada could now face Finland, Switzerland or Sweden in the semifinals Friday. The U.S. plays Sweden in the fourth and final quarterfinal on Wednesday night.
Slovakia reaches the semis despite quiet
game from Slafkovsky
Since arriving at the Olympics, Slovakia’s players and coaches acknowledged they would lean heavily on Juraj Slafkovsky. They also emphasized it cannot be just about the emerging Montreal Canadiens star to make any kind of run.
That was the message before playing Germany in the quarterfinals.
“We were saying, ‘It doesn’t matter who’s going to score,’” Slafkovsky said. “We just need that one extra goal.”
They got a few extra. Dalibor Dvorsky turned in another brilliant performance with a goal and an assist, fellow NHL forward Pavol Regenda scored twice as part of his three-point game and Slovakia dominated Germany 6-2 on Wednesday to reach the semifinals and guarantee playing for a medal in Milan.
“Amazing,” said alternate captain Erik Cernak, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning. “Before the tournament, if we would say we’re going to make semifinals, probably people would laugh at you. But we did it, and it’s not done yet.”
Slovakia got an injury scare in the second period when the 21-year-old Slafkovsky, the reigning Olympic MVP, went head-first into the boards and was slow to get up. A trainer applied an ice pack to the back of Slafkovsky’s neck, and he held it on himself when he got up to celebrate a goal scored while he was getting medical attention.
“I’m OK,” Slafkovsky said. “I was a little shaken up, but after a couple minutes I felt OK again. I went out there, and head wasn’t spinning. I was seeing normal.”
Slafkovsky was held off the scoresheet until assisting on captain Tomas Tatar’s empty-net goal with 3:27 left, and he was thrilled to see his teammates fill the net instead.
“I don’t think it does matter if Slafko has some points,” defenseman Martin Fehervary said. “He can do some other work for us, and we have plenty of players who can score, as well.”
Dvorsky, who plays for the St. Louis Blues, and Regenda, who split time between the San Jose Sharks and their American Hockey League affiliate this season, led the way offensively. Dvorsky made the initial pass that led to Milos Kelemen’s goal and had a terrific individual effort to spring himself for his third goal at the Olympics.
At the other end of the rink, Minnesota Wild goaltending prospect Samuel Hlavaj did his job, making 25 saves and allowing only goals to Lukas Reichel, off a feed from Leon Draisaitl, and to Frederik Tiffels on the power play.
Slovakia as the No. 3 seed can face any of the U.S., Finland, Switzerland, Sweden or Czechia in the semifinals Friday, depending on how the rest of the results go.
“We just have to keep working, and whatever opening comes next, we’re going to be ready for whoever,” Regenda said. “We have to be as a team as we are. We have great guys, and we have to stick as a team.”

INDIANA PACERS
GAME PREVIEW: PACERS AT WIZARDS
The Indiana Pacers (15-40) are on the road again following the NBA’s All-Star break as they travel to Washington D.C. for a pair of games against the Wizards (14-39). The first of back-to-back matchups kicks off on Thursday at 7:00 PM ET at Capital One Arena.
Indiana entered the break on a two-game winning streak, and looks to build on those victories against a Wizards team battling multiple season-ending injuries to its stars. After an extended break from game action as the NBA’s All-Stars battled it out in Los Angeles, a rejuvenated Pacers squad is ready to take on the second half of the season.
Pascal Siakam was in the middle of the festivities as he played for Team World in Sunday’s All-Star tournament.
“This is a blessing to be here, doing what I love,” Siakam said. “I’m just blessed to be here. Every opportunity that I get — no matter win, lose, good, bad — just know that it’s a blessing.”
Siakam leads the Pacers in both scoring and rebounding with 23.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game through Indiana’s initial 55 contests. His production is key to Indiana’s success down the stretch of the season.
The Wizards made some splashy moves at the trade deadline by acquiring Trae Young and Anthony Davis, but neither has debuted for Washington. Davis has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with multiple injuries, and a knee injury keeps Young sidelined.
Alex Sarr, the second overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft, has also missed time due to injury this season.
Without Davis and Sarr, the Wizards have just two rostered centers entering the matchup with Indiana on Thursday – Tristan Vukcevic and Skal Labissiere.
Washington outrebounded Indiana 56-41 in the two clubs’ last meeting, but without two of their top centers, the Wizards could be vulnerable around the glass come Thursday’s game.
After Thursday’s matchup, the Pacers will remain in Washington D.C. for a second game with the Wizards on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 PM ET.
Projected Starters
Pacers: G – Andrew Nembhard, G – Aaron Nesmith, F – Jarace Walker, F – Pascal Siakam, C – Jay Huff
Wizards: G – Bub Carrington, G – Tre Johnson, F – Kyshawn George, F – Bilal Coulibaly, C – Tristan Vukcevic
Injury Report
Pacers: Johnny Furphy – out (right ACL tear), Tyrese Haliburton – out (right Achilles tendon tear), Obi Toppin – out (right foot stress fracture), Ivica Zubac – out (left ankle sprain)
Wizards: Anthony Davis – out (hand/groin), Alex Sarr – out (right hamstring strain), D’Angelo Russell – out (not with team), Cam Whitmore – out (deep vein thrombosis), Trae Young – out (right knee sprain)
Last Meeting
Dec. 14, 2025: The Wizards defeated the shorthanded Pacers with suffocating defense, holding Indiana under 100 points for the fourth time this season, 108-89.
Bennedict Mathurin led the way for the Blue and Gold with 15 points as Indiana shot just 37 percent from the field, including 26 percent from 3-point range. Both of those marks were top-3 worst performances for the Pacers on the year.
Washington’s Marvin Bagley III was the Wizard’s most productive player – he notched 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting, and grabbed 14 rebounds. Justin Champagnie also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
The Wizards dominated the glass and the paint – Washington recorded 17 offensive rebounds to Indiana’s 11, and scored 50 points in the paint to the Pacers’ 38.
Noteworthy
The Pacers and Wizards have split the season series so far, 1-1.
Indiana is 112-88 against the Wizards all-time.
The back-to-back contests in Washington D.C. on Thursday and Friday conclude Indiana’s season series with the Wizards.
Pascal Siakam represented Team World in the NBA’s All-Star tournament on Sunday. He scored 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting over the two games he played against the USA Stars and USA Stripes teams.

INDIANA SWIMMING AND DIVING
NO. 6 HOOSIERS SCORE SILVER, SHATTER SCHOOL STANDARD IN 800 FREE RELAY
MINNEAPOLIS – Three freshmen and a junior crushed the Indiana women’s swimming and diving program record in the 800-yard freestyle relay during the first night of the 2026 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday (Feb. 18) inside the Jane K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
The IU quartet touched in a second-place time of 6:51.11, crushing the previous school standard – 6:54.03, set at the 2024 NCAA Championships – by nearly three seconds. Only Michigan’s Big Ten record 6:48.02 swim beat out the Hoosiers.
“I thought it was great battle,” IU head swimming coach Ray Looze said. “We just came up a little bit short. But I think we can be significantly better in that relay at the NCAA Championships. We just need to make sure we have easy speed, taking out our first 50 and then finish the race better. We probably had three out of four legs hurting on that last 50. And it’s important to have those splits be pretty balanced throughout, and they all know that. We’re trying to win, so they were kind of pedal to the metal a little too early.”
Freshman Liberty Clark led things off in 1:41.32, just under her personal best, and gave way to classmate Alex Shackell, who went 1:42.16 in the second leg. Junior Macky Hodges took the third leg in 1:44.16, and freshman Grace Hoeper closed it out with a 1:43.47.
Indiana sits in a tie for third after two events with 106 points. The Hoosier also competed in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing fifth with a time of 1:35.53. Notably, senior Kristina Paegle dropped the quickest anchor split and the lone anchor under 21 seconds with a 20.92.
It was not our finest moment,” Looze said. “We’re capable of executing a lot better. I think it primarily gets chalked up to people trying too hard, maybe being a little too nervous. All four of those athletes are in the meet now, and they’ll do better moving forward.
“Solid start, we have a lot of work to do. The conference is getting better, so we need to up our game, and we’re looking to have a good preliminary session tomorrow.”

PURDUE BASEBALL
BOILERMAKERS GO WITHOUT AN XBH IN LOSS AT RICE
HOUSTON – Purdue Baseball managed multiple base runners in just two innings and did not record an extra-base hit, falling 5-2 at Rice on Wednesday in the Boilermakers’ first-ever February midweek game.
The Owls (3-2) scored all five of their runs in the middle innings and kept the visitors off the scoreboard until the top of the seventh.
Purdue (2-2) was limited to two runs on six hits (all singles) for the second time in four games this season. The Boilermakers managed to win 2-1 Saturday with the same line score. Last year, Purdue was held without an extra-base hit only twice, but both occasions were over the first six games of the campaign – winning both.
Starting pitcher Austin Klug (1-1) opened the game with three consecutive zeros before allowing a leadoff home run to in the bottom of the fourth. He did not issue a walk over 4 1/3 innings of two-run ball, his longest outing as a Boilermaker.
Down 5-0 entering the seventh inning, Purdue loaded the bases with one out and brought the tying run to the plate after Jimmy Dionne delivered a pinch-hit RBI single for his first hit as a Boilermaker. Sergio DeCello had scored on a passed ball moments earlier.
Eli Anderson singled up the middle with two outs in the third inning to extend his hit streak to 16 consecutive games dating back to April 2025. It’s the sixth longest hit streak by a Purdue player on record (since 2001). The Boilermakers loaded the bases in the frame but were unable to cash in against starter Jeremiah Arnett (2-0), who pitched into the seventh inning while limiting Purdue to four hits.
The top third of the Rice lineup was a combined 6-for-13 with four extra-base hits and three RBI. Cole Green opened the scoring with the home run in the fourth inning and Colin Robson connected for a two-run shot on the first pitch after the Boilermakers went to the bullpen with one out the following frame.
A timely 5-4-3 inning-ending double play with runners on the corners in the bottom of the fifth was Purdue’s top moment of the night. Trevor Kester-Johnson induced the ground ball from the Rice cleanup hitter with the first pitch he threw in the game. Sam Flores made a lunging play at third base to start the around-the-horn twin killing, teaming up with second baseman Dylan Drake.
Klug worked a 1-2-3 third inning to cap a stretch in which he retired eight of nine batters. He induced a 6-4-3 double play turned by Westin Boyle and Drake the following frame. Joe Trenerry struck out a pair while working a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth in his lone inning.

NOTRE DAME HOCKEY
IRISH HEAD NORTH TO BATTLE TOP-RANKED SPARTANS
East Lansing, Mich. – The Fighting Irish Hockey team of Notre Dame travel northeast this week for a rematch with Big Ten foe, the No. 1/1 Michigan State Spartans. The second series between the Irish and Spartans will occur this Thursday and Friday at Munn Ice Arena (Feb. 19-20). Thursday’s puck drop is slated for 7:30 pm while the Friday contest is scheduled for 6:00 pm. Both games will be aired on Big Ten Network.
This week marks the 154th & 155th game milestone in the all-time series as Michigan State and Notre Dame clash for the second time this season after previously meeting in South Bend back in November. The Spartans got the best of the Irish in the last showdown, taking wins in a pair of tightly contested games.
Dating back to 1926-27, Notre Dame currently trails in the all-time series record with 53 wins, 84 losses, and 16 ties. Previously when the Irish visited Munn Ice Arena in 2024-25 they were bested in a close 1-0 battle during the Big Ten Playoff semifinals matchup. The Irish were bested by the Spartans off a powerplay goal early in the third period which proved to be the lone goal of the contest. Owning 21 wins on the road, Notre Dame looks to improve on their record against the nation’s top ranked team and split the season series with the Spartans.
The last time these teams met, sophomore goalie Nicholas Kempf recorded 73 saves over the course of the two-game weekend. During game one of the November series, Kempf posted a then career-high in saves with 43 in the 4-1 loss. He followed it up with a 30-save performance in Saturday’s contest. Additionally, Paul Fischer highlighted the Irish in points on the weekend, with a goal in Friday night’s match before picking up an assist in game two of the weekend to finish the series with two points.
In their most recent outing, it was a weekend defined by resilience for the Irish, who fought back from goal deficits in back-to-back games against the Minnesota Golden Gophers to earn a victory and a draw. Nicholas Kempf earned Second Star conference honors from the Big Ten as a result from his performance over the course of the weekend. Posting a .931 save percentage with 54 saves across the series, the sophomore netminder ranked first and second in the respective categories in the Big Ten conference. Junior Cole Knuble led the Irish in points against Minnesota with three (1-2-3). His second assist of the series set up the game-winning goal that came off the twine of junior captain Danny Nelson’s stick to secure victory for Notre Dame late in the third period of Saturday night’s contest.
As the Irish head up I-69 to East Lansing, they look to carry their past weekend’s resilience into Munn Ice Arena. Entering the final regular season meeting with Michigan State, Notre Dame travels to the Mitten State primed and ready to add another exciting chapter to this 99-year-old rivalry with the Spartans.

BALL STATE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CRUSHES BUFFALO 88–55 TO MAINTAIN MAC LEAD
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Ball State women’s basketball team extended its dominance in Mid-American Conference play Wednesday night, securing a commanding 88–55 road victory over the Buffalo Bulls at Alumni Arena. The win marks the Cardinals’ seventh consecutive victory and solidifies their position at the top of the MAC standings with a 13–1 league record.
Ball State led from the opening frame, outscoring Buffalo in every quarter. The Cardinals’ defense held Buffalo to just 55 points, limiting the Bulls to single-digit scoring in the first quarter.
The Cardinals immediately took control, outscoring Buffalo 20–11 in the first period to build a quick nine-point advantage. Ball State’s defense intensified in the second stanza, holding the Bulls to only nine points. By intermission, Ball State had doubled Buffalo’s score, heading into the locker room with a commanding 44–23 lead.
A key factor in the early lead was the activity of the Ball State guards, who forced nine Buffalo turnovers in the first quarter alone, setting a fast-paced tempo that the Bulls could not match. The Cardinals combined this defensive pressure with clinical finishing, shooting 56% from the field and 47% from three-point range during their dominant early stretch.
The first half was paced by Grace Kingery with 10 points, this week’s MAC Player of the Week, Bree Salenbien chipped in eight points as did Aniss Tagayi.
After intermission, Ball State continued its dominance in the second half by outpacing Buffalo 47-28 across the final two quarters.
The Cardinals broke the game open in the third quarter with a sharp offensive display, shooting 69.2% from the field (9-of-13) and 60% from three-point range to rack up 24 points and extend their lead to 65-42. This momentum carried into the fourth quarter, where Ball State added another 23 points behind a 47.6% shooting performance, effectively neutralizing any comeback attempt as they held the Bulls to just 13 points in the final frame.
Salebien led the way with 18 points, followed by Kingery’s 15-point showing. Tessa Towers added 14 to the tally, while Tagayi rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points and a career-high-tying nine rebounds.

Williams and Alonso had two hits apiece on the day as the Miami offense was limited to just eight hits overall, four coming over the seventh and eighth inning rallies. Williams and Alonso both homered, while Williams and Daniel Cuvet both doubled in the win.
Rob Evans (1-0) picked up the win out of the bullpen allowing one hit and a walk, while striking out one over the seventh inning. Sebastian Santos-Olson worked 4.2 innings allowing five hits and two runs while striking out six in the start, while Brixton Lofgren, Lazaro Collera, Packy Bradley-Cooney, and Ryan Bilka all saw time on the mound.

Alvarez swung the advantage back to Miami in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to left field to put the Hurricanes ahead 3-2.

OAKLAND TAKES #HLWBB GAME FROM MASTODONS
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women’s basketball team dropped a Horizon League contest on Wednesday night (Feb. 19) to Oakland 71-64 in the Gates Sports Center.
It was a slow start that put the Mastodons behind the proverbial 8-ball. Oakland went up 9-0 in the opening three minutes of action. The Mastodons clawed back to take a 36-34 lead after Hillary Offing had a 4-0 run on her own. Offing finished with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in 13 minutes of action off the bench.
Oakland’s rebounding wore on the Mastodons in the second half, out-shining the ‘Dons on the boards 27-19 after the halftime break. Despite that, the Mastodons obliterated Oakland in the paint with a 42-28 edge when the final buzzer sounded.

EVANSVILLE MEN’S BASKETBALL
PURPLE ACES FALL TO FLAMES IN MIDWEEK CONTEST
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After leading by 15 points at halftime, UIC pulled away for an 84-46 victory over the University of Evansville men’s basketball team on Wednesday evening at the Ford Center.
Trent Hundley led the Purple Aces with 12 points as he converted four 3-pointers. Josh Hughes and Leif Moeller scored nine points apiece. Hughes led the team with six rebounds. Five UIC players reached double figures with Andy Johnson leading the way with 17 points. He was a perfect 5-of-5 from long range.
“UIC is playing extremely well and have been one of the best teams in our league over the last several weeks. Tip your hat to them for how they played,” UE head coach David Ragland said. “They took advantage of our lack of depth. We did not shoot the ball well, but we need to have more resistance on the defensive end. Our guys are extremely competitive and are battling through this.”
Early on, it was a defensive battle with UIC holding a 4-0 lead just over four minutes in. Evansville opened the evening 0-for-4 from the field while committing four turnovers. Alex Hemenway got the Purple Aces on the board with a layup at the 15:23 mark. After a 3-pointer by the Flames put them up 9-4, Trent Hundley countered with a triple to cut the deficit down to two points.
UIC fought right back, opening a 16-9 edge thanks to four in a row from Sam Silverstein. Hundley’s second 3-pointer was followed by a Kaia Berridge trey that cut deficit to a point – 16-15 – inside of 10 minutes remaining in the period. Over the next four minutes, the Flames took their first double digit lead, utilizing a 12-2 run to go up 28-17 with 5:24 remaining in the period.
Two minutes later, Hundley’s third field goal from downtown made it a 7-point game, however, UIC made another rally. They scored the final eight points of the half to take a 38-23 lead into the break. The Flames shot 50.0% in the half while holding the Aces to 36.4%. Josiah Hammons registered 12 in the period while Hundley led UE with 9 points.
Knocking down three of their first outside tries of the second half, UIC opened a 47-23 lead in the opening three minutes of the second half. UE missed its first five field goal tries of the latter stanza before Hemenway knocked down the first Aces basket of the period.
The lead for UIC remained between 22 and 25 points through the middle portions of the half before they continued to pull away. Up 56-34, the Flames scored the next nine points to go up by 31 inside of seven minutes left. Their largest lead was the final tally of 84-46.
For the game, UIC shot 53.3% while the Aces finished at 32.7%. The Flames also finished with a 43-23 rebounding advantage. UE returns to the road on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game at Murray State.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women’s Basketball hits the road to start a season-long four-game road stretch to conclude the regular season this week when the Screaming Eagles travel to face Western Illinois University on Thursday at 5 p.m. and Eastern Illinois on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Both games this week can be seen with a subscription to ESPN+ and heard on The Spin 95.7 FM.
USI Women’s Basketball (18-7, 12-4 OVC) enters the week tied for second in the Ohio Valley Conference standings alongside Lindenwood University with a 12-4 conference record and a game back of first-place Western Illinois. With four games left in the regular season, Thursday is a pivotal matchup in the picture of the OVC standings. USI has already clinched its third consecutive OVC Tournament berth.
Last time out, USI finished a home sweep last week with a 72-60 victory against Tennessee Tech on Saturday, which was USI’s regular-season home finale and Senior Day for the Screaming Eagles. For the second straight game, USI found itself in a tight battle in the first half before creating separation in the second half. USI outscored Tennessee Tech 25-10 in the third quarter and was strong defensively and on the glass.
Senior guard Ali Saunders paced the Eagles in Saturday’s home win against Tennessee Tech with 17 points and dished out eight assists. Junior forward Chloe Gannon totaled 15 points with seven rebounds, and freshman forward Channah Gannon scored 11 points. Junior guard Shannon Blacher added 10 points.
Saunders continues to lead the team in scoring with 17.6 points per game, which is second in the OVC. Gannon is second on the squad with 13 points per contest, and junior guard Sophia Loden is third at 10.6 points per game.
For Saunders, the senior has led USI in scoring in 12 of the 16 OVC games so far. The guard is averaging 19.4 points per game in league-only action, which is second in the conference. Plus, Saunders is at the top of the OVC with 4.3 assists per contest. Shooting 91.7 percent at the free-throw line this season, Saunders ranks first in the OVC and top five in the nation at the charity stripe.
Gannon has also been very consistent for the Eagles. The junior has scored 10-plus in 20 games this season and in 10 straight games.
In recent weeks, junior forward Amiyah Buchanan has been having her best stretch for the Screaming Eagles. Since January 22, Buchanan has been averaging nearly a double-double with over nine points and nine boards per outing. Buchanan has two double-doubles in the last three games and three consecutive games with 10 or more rebounds.
USI is averaging 70.8 points while limiting opponents to 57.1 points per game, which remains the best scoring defense in the OVC and ranks in the top 25 in the nation. USI’s 36.3 field goal percentage defense is also number one and top 25 in the nation.
Western Illinois heads into Thursday’s clash against USI with a 21-4 overall record and a 13-3 OVC record. The Leathernecks are 13-0 at home. After suffering a setback on February 7 against Tennessee State University, Western Illinois bounced back last week with a 93-49 win against Eastern Illinois and an 84-73 win against the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
The Leathernecks are led by senior forward Mia Nicastro, who tops the squad and the OVC with 24.4 points per contest. Nicastro is nearly averaging a double-double with a team-best 9.8 rebounds per game. Nicastro is the reigning OVC Player of the Week and has won the award multiple times this season. Three other Leathernecks are averaging double figures, including senior guard Addi Brownfield (12.5) and graduate forward Mallory Shetley (10.0). Western Illinois has the top scoring offense in the OVC at 77.6 points per game.
USI is 5-1 against Western Illinois in the series history. Earlier this season, the Eagles came up short at home against the Leathernecks, 72-62, on January 23, which was played on a Friday due to snowy weather. Gannon led USI in that game with 16 points, while Buchanan tallied a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Eastern Illinois (4-23, 3-13 OVC) has dropped three straight games entering this week. After its 93-49 loss to Western Illinois last week, the Panthers fell 73-53 against Little Rock. The Panthers host Morehead State on Thursday before welcoming USI on Saturday.
Junior guard Ava Stoller and redshirt junior forward Sydney-James Desroches are the top two scorers for Eastern Illinois, averaging 11.8 and 10.6 points per game, respectively. The Panthers average just over 57 points while allowing over 71 points per contest.
Eastern Illinois leads the all-time series against USI, 5-4. In the first meeting this season at Liberty Arena, the Screaming Eagles strolled to a 73-57 victory. USI has won four of the last five meetings.
After this week’s trip to Western Illinois and Eastern Illinois, the Screaming Eagles will have a quick turnaround, getting back on the road for a Tuesday tilt at Morehead State University. Tipoff from Morehead, Kentucky, is slated for 4 p.m. CT.

Saturday, Feb. 21, 1 p.m. CT at USC Upstate (2-2*, 0-0 Big South) – RHP Lockwood
Sunday, Feb. 22, 11 a.m. at Presbyterian (2-3, 0-0 Big South) – RHP Nick Baffa
*Entering Wednesday at Georgia
Next Up in Valpo Baseball: The Valparaiso University baseball team will make three different stops in the state of South Carolina this weekend, as the Beacons play Wofford, USC Upstate and Presbyterian in single games. Northern Illinois and NJIT will also be playing those teams in a different order this weekend as the three squads rotate through the three opponents during a unique weekend.
Last Time Out: The Beacons dropped three out of four during a season-opening series at Gardner-Webb that featured doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday. Valpo was on the wrong end of a season-opening nail biter, carrying a 6-5 lead to the bottom of the ninth but falling 7-6 on a two-run, walk-off single. The Runnin’ Bulldogs swept Friday’s doubleheader with a 7-3 win in Game 2, but the Beacons bounced back with an 11-10 win in Saturday’s first game. Case Sullivan hit a go-ahead, two-run triple in the top of the seventh of a scheduled seven-inning game after Cal Schembra homered earlier in the game. Gardner-Webb prevailed 12-1 in seven innings in Saturday’s second game.
Following the Beacons: For links to live stats, visit ValpoAthletics.com. For in-game updates, follow @ValpoBaseball on X.
Head Coach Brian Schmack: Brian Schmack (213-374) is in his 13th season in charge of the program. He ranks third in program history in seasons coached and games coached as he coached his 500th game on March 17, 2024 at Campbell. On April 19, 2024 vs. Missouri State, he became the third head coach in program history to secure his 200th win. Schmack, a member of the 2003 Detroit Tigers, served as pitching coach/associate head coach at Valpo for seven seasons prior to his promotion.
Series Notes: Valpo will play Wofford for the second time ever after an 8-7, 11-inning victory in 2012. The Beacons are 1-3 all-time against USC Upstate, most recently dropping two of three in a 2015 series. Valpo will get together with Presbyterian – a conference foe for the Valpo football team in the Pioneer Football League – for the first time on the diamond.
Grand Entrance
Freshman first baseman Cal Schembra was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for his opening-weekend performance at Gardner-Webb. He became the first-ever player to earn that award as the league added a Freshman of the Week Award to its arsenal of honors this season.
Schembra batted .500 with a double, home run, five RBIs and four runs scored. He reached at a .533 clip and slugged .786 over the four games.
The Valpo rookie also had a diving catch in foul territory and doubled up the runner who was trying to tag and score from third. The impressive play was featured as the No. 2 Play of the Week by D1Baseball.
Schembra, who had multiple hits in each of the first three games of his collegiate career, was ranked the No. 77 hitter nationally in Week 1 of the season by D1Baseball.
Approaching 200: Valpo starting pitcher Connor Lockwood enters this weekend with 195 career strikeouts. He needs five to hit the 200 milestone.
Other Notes Wrapping Up Gardner Webb (Feb. 13-14): L 7-6, L 7-3, W 11-10, L 12-1
The season opened with a one-run loss, shades of last season where Valpo had the misfortune of going 1-9 in one-run games, but Valpo later rebounded with a one-run win in the third game of the series.
The Beacons worked 10 walks in the season opener, which would have tied for the team’s second-highest single-game walk total in all of 2025.
Valpo left 15 runners on base in the season opener, while the Runnin’ Bulldogs stranded just three.
In Saturday’s victory, Valpo produced 12 hits with five Beacons all enjoying multi-hit efforts.
Case Sullivan notched his first collegiate triple in Saturday’s victory and racked up four RBIs, his second career game with at least four driven in and his second in a five-game span dating back to last season as he had a career-high six in the penultimate game of 2025.
In the series finale, the team had six hits, all from different players.
In the Other Dugout – This Weekend’s Opponents
Wofford won 33 games last season, but was picked eighth in this year’s SoCon Preseason Poll. The Terriers swept a three-game series from Mercyhurst to start the season before falling 8-2 at South Carolina on Tuesday.
Picked to finish fourth in the 2026 Big South Preseason Poll, USC Upstate recorded 36 victories and reached an NCAA Regional last season after winning a conference crown. USC Upstate dropped two of three at South Alabama to start the season before a 17-0 whitewash of Western Carolina on Tuesday. The Spartans play at Georgia on Wednesday.
Presbyterian started 2-0 by sweeping a season-opening doubleheader from Akron, but has dropped three straight as the Zips came back to split that series and then Elon defended its home field with a 6-4 victory on Tuesday against the Blue Hose. Presbyterian was picked to finish sixth in the Big South preseason poll.
MVC Preseason Watch List
Rather than preseason all-conference teams, the Missouri Valley Conference released a Preseason Watch List prior to the 2026 campaign.
Valpo players to watch include redshirt senior right-handed pitcher Spencer Boynton, redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Adam Guazzo, redshirt senior right-handed pitcher Connor Lockwood, redshirt senior catcher Eli Riley and redshirt sophomore infielder Case Sullivan.
The Valley did not release the full preseason poll this season, but did release the top five teams in the voting. Murray State is the preseason favorite, followed by Southern Illinois and UIC.
The Roster Rundown
Valpo has 18 newcomers joining forces with 15 returning players for the 2026 season.
The top six pitchers from last season in terms of earned run average are back for 2026.
On the flip side, the position player group has received a bit of a makeover. Of the 11 position players who started on a fairly regular basis last season, only three return in 2026 – redshirt junior Thomas Cooper, senior Austin Amburgey and redshirt sophomore Case Sullivan.
This year’s roster features 10 freshmen, six sophomores, five juniors and 12 seniors.
Illinois (11) and Indiana (eight) are the home states most represented on the Valpo roster. Wisconsin (four), Ohio (two) and Florida (two) also produced multiple members of this year’s Beacons. Kentucky, Tennessee, Nebraska, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Michigan round out the 11 states represented on this year’s team.
There are 16 pitchers and 18 position players (including one two-way player counted in both groups) on this year’s roster.
Looking Back at 2025
The 10-40 record and 5-22 MVC mark are deceiving based on the number of close losses. Valpo was 1-9 in one-run games including 1-7 in MVC play in one-run games
Valpo had two wins over Big Ten Conference opponents, beating Ohio State 10-7 on March 7 and Illinois 13-10 on March 15.
The March 15 win came against the defending Big Ten regular-season champs and a team that won 35 games and went 18-6 in Big Ten play on its way to an NCAA Regional berth last season.
The win over Ohio State was the team’s first Big Ten win since 2018. The win came against a Buckeyes team that was coming off a 29-win season.
The team’s 8-3 win at Indiana State on March 21 to open Missouri Valley Conference play snapped a 25-game head-to-head losing streak and was the team’s first victory over the Sycamores since 2007. Valpo was previously 0-20 vs. Indiana State since joining the MVC prior to the 2018 season.
The win over Indiana State came against the defending MVC regular-season champs and an Indiana State team that made an NCAA Regional appearance last season.
The team produced its highest run total in 15 years on May 16, beating Southern Illinois 24-14 in the highest-scoring game in Emory G. Bauer Field history.

MARIAN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
KNIGHTS CLINCH SHARE OF CL CHAMPIONSHIP IN 69-53 WIN AT INDIANA WESLEYAN
MARION, Ind. – Backed by their stingy defense and Taylor Double’s season-high 18 points, the Marian women’s basketball team polished off a season sweep of Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday night, downing the Wildcats 69-53 to secure their 25th victory of the season. Marian’s win clinched a share of the Crossroads League Season Championship, as the Knights improved to 15-2 in the league and 25-2 on the year.
Things couldn’t have started better for the Knights on Wednesday night, as Marian quickly asserted itself in the game by opening the contest on an 8-0 run. Kiley McNally scored the first points of the night, while a steal from Taylor Double helped her get in a groove offensively, with the junior netting two early baskets. Indiana Wesleyan would use a timeout to settle after committing a pair of early turnovers, and responded by attacking the Knights with a 9-2 run. Madisyn Bailey kept Marian in front and ended the run with a driving layup, but the Wildcats closed the first quarter strong, outscoring Marian by a 6-2 count in the last two minutes, giving the home team a 15-14 edge after one period.
Indiana Wesleyan carried momentum from their strong first quarter finish into the next, as they made things difficult for Marian early in the second stanza. A pair of three-pointers kept the Wildcats on top, but a dosage of Kenna Kirby jumpers remedied the Knights’ attack, as five points from the senior lifted the offense. A string of consecutive stops and an Abbey McNally post score led to Marian getting back in control, with Kirby’s third field goal of the quarter at the 4:41 mark seeing the Knights regain a 25-24 lead. A three-point play from Madisyn Bailey cushioned the lead and sprang the Knights into a 31-27 halftime lead.
Marian ended the first half strong, clamping down on defense as they held the Wildcats scoreless for the final 2:23 of the second quarter.
As it has throughout the season, Marian’s elite defense carried over into the second half, as Indiana Wesleyan mustered just two points in the first four minutes of the third quarter, while Marian found offense from Taylor Double and Kenna Kirby to extend the lead to six points. Double and Kirby remained the catalysts for Marian’s offensive assault, as the two guards combined to score 15 of the Knights’ 21 third-quarter points, pushing the advantage into double digits. A rare three-point field goal from Abbey McNally extended the edge to 13 points with 2:32 to play in the third, as the senior’s second made shot from downtown this season secured a double-figure lead going into the fourth with Marian on top 52-42.
Indiana Wesleyan would make a challenge late in the game as the contest shifted to the fourth, as a surge from Ayla Krygier helped the home team stay in the game. Five of Krygier’s game-high 29 points whittled Marian’s lead to six, but the game quickly shifted back to a three-possession affair as Eva Fisher snuck behind the Wildcat defense on a backdoor layup. Abbey McNally would extend the lead to nine as the clock ticked under five minutes and put the Knights on top 59-50, all but closing the curtain on the game.
Kiley McNally would sink the final field goal of the game for Marian with 2:24 remaining to reclaim a double-digit lead, as the Knights’ defense that provided a scoreless streak of 3:26 in the final four minutes, along with six makes at the foul line sealed a 69-53 road victory.
With the win, the Knights secured a regular season sweep of Indiana Wesleyan for the first time since the 2023-24 season. Marian also clinched a share of the Crossroads League Regular Season Championship with its win, the first since the team’s outright championship in the aforementioned 2023-24 campaign.
On the night, Taylor Double scored a season-high 18 points, while Abbey McNally had 15 points to go along with nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Kenna Kirby led the bench with a 15-point outburst, her most points scored since January 7. Madisyn Bailey once again stuffed the stat sheet with five points, five rebounds, and seven assists, while Kiley McNally had eight rebounds and three assists on the evening.
As a team, Marian forced 25 Indiana Wesleyan turnovers and held the Wildcats under 42 percent scoring from the field.
With the share of the Crossroads League Championship clinched, Marian will look to defend home court and claim the outright league title on Saturday, with the Knights hosting Huntington on their senior day. Tip-off is for 1:00 p.m., while the senior day festivities will take place in between contests in conjunction with the men’s program.
