(AP) — That one-man show at the Masters gave way to a wide-open chase for the green jacket with a stunning turn of events that forced Rory McIlroy to remind himself where he was at the end of Saturday instead of where he started. The six-shot lead was gone in 11 holes. Instead of only two players within six shots of him, there were nine players within six shots of McIlroy and co-leader Cameron Young by the of the day. “There’s a lot of guys in with a chance tomorrow. I’m still tied for the best score going into tomorrow, so I can’t forget that,” McIlroy said. “But I do know I’m going to have to be better if I want to have a chance to win.” It felt like the coronation had started when McIlroy put himself in the Masters record book with the largest 36-hole lead in history, even though the defending champion had cautioned, “I know what can happen around here, good and bad.” The good belonged to Young, that mixture of power and calm carrying him to a 7-under 65, and to Scottie Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 player and two-time Masters champion whose 65 took him from 12 shots behind to suddenly in the mix just four back. The bad? McIlroy was in the trees, in the water, in all sorts of places he would rather not be, including sharing space atop the leaderboard. He finished with a 73, surprising only because it was the lowest scoring average (70,63) ever for a third round at Augusta National. “Didn’t quite have it today,” McIlroy said before going off to the range to figure out what went wrong. He is last in the field in driving accuracy among the 54 players who made the cut. Young set his own Masters record, the first player to have at least a share of the 54-hole lead when starting eight shots behind. But he was steady and brilliant, chipping in for birdie on the par-3 fourth, converting a huge break when his tee shot on the par-5 13th crashed out of the tree and into the fairway, even salvaging a bogey with a bold wedge from the same spot where he had just come up short and into the water on the par-5 15th. He briefly took the lead with a 20-foot birdie on the 16th. “You just are constantly aware of the fact that this place can bite you,” Young said. “So to me, it’s just a really, really clear mandate that an easy par is never bad. And if you’re playing that well, you’re going to back your way into some birdies at some point.” They were at 11-under 205, one ahead of Sam Burns who played bogey-free for a 68. Shane Lowry, who made a hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth hole to become the first player to have a pair of aces in the Masters, had a 69 and was two shots behind. And suddenly very much in the picture was Scheffler, who had his lowest round ever at the Masters with a 65 despite not making birdie on the par 5s on the back nine for the third straight day. “We’ll see what happens this afternoon. I don’t feel like I’m out of the tournament,” Scheffler said. What happened? Just about everything. McIlroy was plodding along with pars when he stuffed his shot on the 10th for a birdie. But then his journey through Amen Corner might have left him wanting to say a few choice words. His shot into the 11th went left and rolled into the water, he missed a 5-foot putt and made his first double bogey of the tournament. He pulled his wedge on the par-3 12th over the green and chipped poorly, missing a 15-foot par attempt. His drive on the par-5 13th sailed into the trees to the right for the third straight day, his wedge went long and he had to scramble for par. “There’s certainly no lead that’s safe out there,” Young said. “But at the same time, Rory loves it here. I don’t think anyone would have been surprised if he went out and shot 65. But if he does open the door, you have to take advantage.” McIlroy at least steadied himself after losing the lead. He holed a 20-foot birdie putt across the 14th green to tie Young, and then hit a beauty into the 15th to set up a two-putt birdie. But he was in the trees again on the 17th left of the fairway, punched out with a shot that ran over the green and fell back into a tie. The top eight on the leaderboard, separated by four shots, include five major champions and four players who have been No. 1 in the world. Among those with in five shots of the lead are former Masters champion Patrick Reed, despite having to settle for a 72, and Patrick Cantlay, who opened the Masters with a 77 and became the first player in seven years to play bogey-free two straight days with rounds of 67-66. McIlroy still has a good chance to join Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo and Jack Nicklaus as back-to-back winners at Augusta National. Young is trying to make it three straight years the winner of The Players Championship went on to win the Masters. “I’m owed nothing. My past results don’t dictate what I do tomorrow,” Young said. “I’ve got to go earn whatever I get out of tomorrow, and the best way that I know to do that is kind of try to attack the day like I have the last three.” It was the second time a career Grand Slam champion lost a big lead on Saturday at the Masters. Jack Nicklaus led by five shots in 1975 when he shot 73 and fell one shot behind, only to win in what is regarded as one of the most exciting Sundays in Augusta National lore. Perhaps another chapter is in store Sunday. There’s no shortage of contenders. ========================================================= MLB MLB ROUNDUP: GUNNAR HENDERSON, ORIOLES SLUG PAST GIANTS Gunnar Henderson continued his homer barrage and Jeremiah Jackson also slugged a home run as the Baltimore Orioles beat the visiting San Francisco Giants 6-2 on Saturday night to even their series. Klassen was pulled after a leadoff walk to Tyler Stephenson in the bottom of the third and was diagnosed with a fingernail contusion, per the team. While the Blue & Gold will miss the playoffs after an injury-riddled season, the fans have stayed behind the Pacers all season long. The support hasn’t gone unnoticed, as players and coaches have repeatedly made a point to note the fan support. “The fans have been with us the entire season,” assistant coach Lloyd Pierce said after Friday’s loss to Philadelphia. “Nothing’s going to change on Sunday. We want to make sure we’re giving them our maximum effort. We’re going to make sure we’re showing our appreciation for them just by how hard we play.” Young players on Indiana’s roster have had the opportunity for extended playing time and development over the last several games. Several players have taken advantage of the opportunity. Big man Micah Potter has recorded a double-double in three of his last four games, while two-way guard Ethan Thompson has scored in double figures in three straight and four of his last six contests. Third-year forward Jarace Walker has started 41 of 76 games this season and is averaging a 11.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists — all career highs. The Pistons have locked up the top seed in the upcoming Eastern Conference playoffs. Detroit has nothing to play for on Sunday aside from trying to get to 60 wins, so it remains to be seen if the Pistons will elect to play or rest their starters in the regular season finale. Detroit will open postseason play on either Saturday, April 18 or Sunday, April 19 against whatever team emerges as the eighth seed from the Play-In Tournament. The Play-In Tournament will feature Charlotte, Miami and two of Philadelphia, Orlando, and Toronto. Jarace Walker led the Blue & Gold with 13 points and five rebounds, while Tony Bradley added 12 points off the bench. The Pacers shot just 35.4 percent on the right and committed 25 turnovers. Cade Cunningham, Duncan Robinson, and Javonte Green each tallied 16 points for Detroit, while Jalen Duren added 15 points and eight rebounds. Noteworthy Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle is expected to be back on the sidelines for Sunday’s season finale after missing the past two games for personal reasons. With a win on Sunday, the Pistons would sweep the season series with the Pacers for the first time since the 2007-08 season. Former Pacers guard Caris LeVert is in his first season in Detroit after signing with the Pistons in free agency. Indiana acquired LeVert from Brooklyn in Jan. 2021 and traded him to Cleveland in Feb. 2022, netting draft picks the Pacers later used to select Andrew Nembhard and Ben Sheppard. The nine combined errors were the most in an Indians game since at least 2005, surpassing eight total miscues on May 21, 2022, vs. Toledo. The Bats (8-6) tallied two runs in the third inning to open the scoring on an RBI single by Rece Hinds and sacrifice fly by Michael Chavis, with the Indians (3-11) punching back for one run in the bottom half of the frame. Mike Jarvis started things off with a walk and subsequently stole second base and third base. Williams then plated Jarvis with an RBI groundout to cut the deficit, 2-1. Hinds and Chavis later extended the Bats lead further, with Hinds hitting a solo homer in the fifth inning and Chavis with a two-run blast in the seventh frame, for a 5-1 score. The Indians rallied for three runs in the seventh, with the help of three errors by the Bats. Jarvis reached on a throwing error by Chavis to get things started, with Jarvis scoring on a throwing error by Edwin Arroyo to put Williams on base. Esmerlyn Valdez was hit by a pitch and with two outs, Rafael Flores Jr. singled home Williams, with Tyler Callihan also scoring as the throw from center fielder Ivan Johnson. Two more Bats runs scored in the eighth on a two-out error on a dropped pop-up by Williams. Wendzel hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth, a 405-solo shot to left center field. Louisville tacked on one more run in the ninth on a Dayne Leonard double to score Francisco Urbaez. Thomas Harrington (L, 0-2) allowed two runs (1er) across 4.0 innings with seven strikeouts. RHP Wilber Dotel (0-2, 8.31) takes the mound for Indy with RHP Chase Petty (1-1, 5.11) pitching for Louisville, a rematch from Game 1 of the series. ==================================================== INDY ELEVEN Indianapolis – Indy Eleven extended its current USL Championship unbeaten streak to four (2-0-2) and its unbeaten run at home to six (5-0-1) dating back to last season with a 3-1 victory over Monterey Bay FC in front of 9,101 fans at Carroll Stadium. Boys in Blue midfielder Jack Blake became the club’s all-time leader in goals with his 28th on a bicycle kick in the 55th minute. The fourth-year Indy Eleven player broke a tie with Eamon Zayed (2016-17) with the goal that put his team ahead 2-1. The Nottingham, England, native has scored three goals in three matches in all competitions this season, increasing his career total in USL-C play to 44. Captain Aodhan Quinn set up the record-breaking score with a corner kick into the area that defender Paco Craig headed on goal. The ball caromed off the head of Monterey Bay goalkeeper Fernando Delgado high into the air. Blake established position inside the far post and delivered a bicycle kick into the back of the net. Veteran midfielder Cam Lindley moved into the USL-C Top 20 all-time in assists by setting up the first Boys in Blue goal in the 14th minute. The Carmel native played a phenomenal through-ball from midfield to forward Bruno Rendon, who made a fantastic run from the wide right flank across the back line and delivered a classy finish for his team-high third goal in five games this season. Lindley, who leads Indy Eleven with two assists on the campaign, is tied for 19th all-time with 32 career assists in USL-C play. Forward Loic Mesanvi recorded his first USL-C goal in the 68th minute to seal the victory. Defender Anthony Herbert played a brilliant header in the midfield off a goal kick past the back line to the speedy Mesanvi, who chested it down and took his time before finishing inside the far post. Quotes Coach Sean McAuley On tonight’s match “Really pleased for the players and for everybody that came to see us get a result. We thoroughly deserved the win. The resilience of the group was good. I’m proud of the way that they dug in and got the result.” On the defensive line and Eric Dick “Our two center backs (Paco Craig and Anthony Herbert) were outstanding because they never gave the opposition cheap chances–they didn’t make mistakes. They cleared the ball when it needed to be cleared. They gave themselves good positions to keep possession, especially in the first half. And Eric is Eric–you know he’s going to come up with big saves when we need him.” On Jack Blake breaking the club’s goal record: “I’m really pleased that he’s got that record. He’ll get more goals in his time here, so that’s going to be something that stands for a longer time. He’s been excellent every week, he does the job, he’s fit, he’s good with the ball, and he is skilled.” On Loic Mesanvi, Noble Okello, & Bruno Rendon All three of them provide a threat. I’m pleased that Bruno is on a goal scoring run–that is good for us. Noble was good with his link up play. When Noble drops a little deeper to keep possession, it allows space for Bruno and Loic to get in and for both to get goals.” Jack Blake On being the Indy Eleven All-Time Goals Leader “It’s a proud moment. When I came to the club, I wanted to accomplish things collectively and individually, so hopefully the trophy collectively is next.” On his goal “It was a great delivery from Quinny (on a corner kick) and a good header by Paco at the front post. Their keeper made a great save, and it went off his head up into the air. I tried to get to the right side of my man and fortunately I did.” On Mesanvi and Rendon “There aren’t many left or right backs in the league that want to play against us now. Those two are a huge outlet for us, especially when we’re under pressure. We want to hit teams on the counterattack. Those two allow us to do that, and for us attacking players underneath, it creates so much space for us to play because they’re pushing their defense back. I’m happy for Loic to get his goal. Bruno’s continuing his form–he’s been superb this year.” On the addition of Mesanvi “He’s a real threat. He’s a young, hungry player who works hard. He’s come into the group and shown that he works hard first, and he’s earned respect from the group. That is the culture of the team that we set. We make sure that everyone’s a good person off the field, and that they integrate into the group. He lets his feet do the talking, and he’s an exciting player to play with.” Loic Mesanvi On his first USL Championship goal As soon as (Anthony) Herbert had it, I knew I had to turn my jets on and put in the back of the net. It feels amazing. I have great guys around to motivate me to push for the next one.” On coming to Indy and becoming a starter “Coming in, my focus was to work my butt off to get into the starting 11. I will continue working to help the team in any way that I can.” On playing with Jack Blake: “We have pace up top–it’s one of our strongest suits. Jack Blake is amazing. I always try to find him and play off him–our chemistry continues to get better.” ==================================================== INDY FUEL CORALVILLE- The Indy Fuel played their second of three games in Iowa this weekend. Despite having a two-goal lead, the Fuel fell 4-3 in a Central division matchup. 1ST PERIOD The game got off to a slow start, with the shots remaining low. After a bit of controlled zone time, Chris Cameron took a shot from the point, giving the Fuel a 1-0 lead at 13:01 in the first period. Indy’s Nick Grima and Iowa’s Isaac Johnson received coincidental penalties at 13:35, both two minutes for roughing, resulting in 4-on-4 play. With 5:03 left on the clock, Jadon Joseph split two Iowa defenders and buried the puck on the breakaway, putting the Fuel up 2-0 on the Heartlanders. After a few big saves from both goalies, the horn sounded to end the period. Iowa narrowly outshot the Fuel 10-8, despite the Fuel’s 2-0 lead. 2ND PERIOD Jadon Joseph and Anthony Firriolo started off the period with coincidental roughing penalties at 0:14, resulting in 4-on-4 play. The Fuel controlled with two shots, but no goals. Iowa split the score in half with a goal from Matthew Argentina at 6:06, making it 2-1 Fuel. After a huge save from Chase Wutzke on Tyler Weiss, Iowa’s Cameron Butler tied the game at 8:14. The Heartlanders scored two goals on back-to-back shots, tying the game at 2-2. After a chaotic sequence and another big save from Chase Wutzke, the Fuel scored on a goal from Jesse Tucker assisted by Matt Petgrave at 12:49, putting Indy back up 3-2. The Fuel got another chance on the power play at 13:51 with Matt Koethe of the Heartlanders, sitting two minutes for high-sticking. The last two minutes of the period resulted in three more penalties. Indy’s Michael Marchesan sat for two minutes at 18:00 for holding. Matt Koethe from Iowa was called for two minutes for elbowing at 19:30. Shortly after, Jesse Tucker of the Fuel took a high-sticking penalty for two minutes at 19:58. At the end of the period, the Fuel outshot the Heartlanders, 23-18 with a 3-2 lead. 3RD PERIOD The period began with 4-on-4 play, with an abbreviated Iowa power play, but the Heartlanders did not capitalize. Immediately after, Iowa tied the game at 3-3 with a goal from Keltie Jeri-Leon at 2:01 in the third period. The Heartlanders killed one tripping penalty before being called for another one, giving the Fuel two power play opportunities, both being unsuccessful. Jordan Martin was called for tripping at 12:17 and Elliot Desnoyers was sent to the box with him for diving/embellishment, resulting in another 4-on-4 play. Iowa took advantage of the 4-on-4 and Cameron Butler scored the game winning goal at 13:23, putting Iowa up 4-3. Even after pulling Weeks for the empty net, 2:08 was not enough time to get one back for Indy. In the end, the Fuel outshot Iowa 37-24, but fell 4-3. ==================================================== IU SOFTBALL BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––– Indiana kept up its winning ways with a 5-1 win over Purdue on Saturday (April 11) to clinch the rivalry series, 2-0. It sends the Hoosiers to their third rubber match in Big Ten play this year. IU’s offense jumped all over Maryland starter Logan Hastings in the first inning. A two-run single from sophomore shortstop Cooper Malamazian and an RBI double from sophomore outfielder Cole Decker gave IU an early 3-0 lead. All momentum was halted from there as the Hoosiers struggled to muster anything offensively the rest of the way. A solo home run from sophomore first baseman Jake Hanley was all that IU would get in the remainder of the game. Following a brilliant performance last weekend, graduate student right-handed pitcher Reagan Rivera (L, 0-4) never found his footing against the Terrapins. He struggled through the first frame before putting a pair of runners on in the second. He exited the game after recording just three outs. All seven inherited runners for the IU bullpen came around to score in the loss. It will be a quick turnaround as IU finds itself in the same situation as last weekend. Sophomore southpaw Brayton Thomas gets the ball tomorrow (April 12) as the Hoosiers look to keep pace in the race for a spot at the Big Ten Tournament. First pitch is set for Noon on Big Ten Network with Connor Onion and Scott Pose on the call. Scoring Recap Top First The visitors jumped out to an early lead. A two-run single from Cooper Malamazian handed IU the advantage. Cole Decker doubled off the wall to make it 3-0. Indiana 3, Maryland 0 Bottom First The Terrapins answered back with a bases-loaded walk from David Mendez. Indiana 3, Maryland 1 Bottom Second The hosts took the lead in the second with a massive inning. Doubles from Jordan Crosland, Ty Kaunas and Paul Jones II all doubled to plate the first round runs. A bunt single from Nate Hawton-Henley brought home the final run in the frame. Maryland 6, Indiana 3 Top Third Jake Hanley smoked a home run to center field to draw within two runs. Maryland 6, Indiana 4 Bottom Fourth Another bunt single, this time from Devin Russell, scored a Maryland run. Colin Gibbs reached safely on a fielder’s choice to the third baseman and drove in a run in the process. Maryland 8, Indiana 4 Bottom Sixth Another crooked number helped put this game away. Russell doubled home Mendez to kick start the frame. An RBI groundout from Brayden Martin put the Terrapins in double digits. A single from Kaunas and a double from Jones II put the nail in the coffin for Maryland. Maryland 13, Indiana 4 Bottom Seventh Russell hit a home run to complete the run rule. Maryland 14, Indiana 4 Top Hoosier Performers #34 Hanley, Jake 2-2, HR, RBI, BB #17 Koskie, Caleb 2-3, R #15 Malamazian, Cooper 1-3, R, 2 RBI Inside the Box Score • IU’s pitching staff allowed 11 free passes – 10 of them walks. • The Hoosiers scored three of their four runs in the first inning. Notes to Know • Sophomore outfielder Caleb Koskie continues to roll at the plate over the last month. He now has a 15-game hitting streak after a pair of base knocks in Saturday’s contest. It’s officially the longest single-season hitting streak by an IU player since Josh Pyne (15) in 2022. • Sophomore first baseman Jake Hanley hit his ninth home run of the season, a solo blast to center field in the fourth inning. It is his ninth long ball of the season and the 23rd of his IU career. He’s one home run away from back-to-back double-digit campaigns to begin his tenure in Bloomington. Up Next A series win is on the line Sunday (April 12) afternoon in Maryland. First pitch in the rubber match will come at Noon on the Big Ten Network for a national audience. It will also be carried on the Indiana Sports Radio Network via IUHoosiers.com/Audio. ==================================================== PURDUE BASEBALL EVANSTON, Ill. – Purdue Baseball rallied for runs in the ninth and 10th innings to overcome a one-run deficit and Jake Kramer struck out the 4- and 5-hole hitters with the bases loaded to close out the game as the Boilermakers defeated Northwestern 3-2 Saturday. Purdue (24-10, 11-6 Big Ten) rallied for a series-clinching win for the third consecutive weekend. The Boilermakers were victorious in their first extra-inning game of the season while posting their first extra-inning win since April 2024 at Rutgers. SATURDAY NOTABLES • Purdue clinched its fifth straight Big Ten series victory, which remains a program first since the 2012 Big Ten championship team won its first seven. • The Boilermakers won their fifth straight game in Evanston dating back to a rubber game win in 2022. Purdue also clinched its seventh straight series win vs. Northwestern since 2018, extending the longest series win streak against any Big Ten rival in team history. • The Boilermakers have won 15 of their last 20 games overall since March 10. That’s the program’s best 20-game stretch since going 16-4 from Feb. 21-March 25 last season. • Purdue won for the second time when trailing after eight innings this season. • Starter Zach Erdman allowed two runs (one earned) over 5 1/3 innings, surrendered two runs or fewer for a fifth time in nine starts this season. The Boilermaker bullpen backed him up with 4 2/3 scoreless innings, extending its streak of consecutive scoreless innings in Big Ten play to 17 1/3 over the last week. Sergio DeCello scored the game-tying run in the top of the ninth after getting hit by a pitch with a 1-2 count to open the inning. Jackson Bessette (double) and Quincy Malbrough (RBI single) teamed up for consecutive two-out hits the following frame to generate the go-ahead run. Zach Zychowski, Westin Boyle and CJ Richmond teamed up for a highlight reel 4-6-3 double play that saved a run in the bottom of the sixth. Fresh in the game after Dylan Drake was lifted due to injury, Zychowski made an excellent pick behind the second base bag on a sharply hit ball off the bat of Jay Slater that hit the mound on its way back through the box. Boyle caught the flip from Zychowski barehanded, did a 180-degree spin while stepping on the bag with his right foot and made an accurate throw all in one motion. Richmond scooped a low throw at first to complete the twin killing. Trailing 3-2, Northwestern (13-17-1, 5-9 Big Ten) opened the bottom of the 10th with consecutive singles and then executed a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Purdue opted to intentionally walk 3-hole hitter Ryan Kucherak, who had homered off the batter’s eye in center field to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning. Kramer struck out cleanup man Jack Lausch and 5-hole hitter Noah Ruiz – both of whom had two hits on the day – consecutively to escape the jam and bring the Boilermakers pouring out of the dugout to celebrate a comeback win. STREAKS EXTENDED • Sam Flores: 13-game on-base; 9-game on-base in Big Ten play • Avery Moore: 9-game on-base; 9-game on-base in Big Ten play • Dylan Drake: 8-game on-base; 7-game on-base in Big Ten play • Quincy Malbrough: 5-game-hit • Joe Trenerry: 9 1/3 consecutive innings without an earned run allowed • Bullpen: 17 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings in Big Ten play Eli Anderson’s sacrifice bunt advanced DeCello into scoring position with one out in the ninth inning. With Zychowski at the plate, a wild pitch only bounced a few feet away from Slater behind the plate. DeCello aggressively took off for third base and it paid off when Slater threw the ball down the left field line. However, DeCello got tangled up with third baseman Owen McElfatrick and was knocked to the ground. The third base umpire ruled obstruction and awarded DeCello the additional 90 feet, allowing him to cross home plate uncontested. After fouling off four consecutive pitches as part of a nine-pitch, Bessette connected for an opposite-field double into right center with two outs in the 10th inning. Malbrough capitalized on a 3-1 count, delivering a base hit back through the middle to plate the go-ahead run. Avery Moore also came through with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Sam Flores in the third inning. Flores had alertly stolen second base, taking off before pitcher Matt Kouser even began his delivery after recognizing that Kouser was still frustrated by not touching first base in time while trying to complete a 3-6-1 double play moments earlier. Northwestern pitchers issued 10 free passes (six walks, four HBP). But Purdue stranded 10 base runners through seven innings and had two more thrown out trying to steal second. Sunday’s series finale is slated for 2 p.m. ET first pitch. ========================================================= PURDUE SOFTBALL BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Purdue fell 5-1 to Indiana in game two of the series, marking its third-consecutive Big Ten series loss. Purdue (26-14, 6-8 Big Ten) was held to just three hits on the afternoon, two from senior Khloe Banks, and one from Anna Moore. Moore’s homer was the lone run scored for the Boilers, with the Hoosiers (30-10, 9-5 Big Ten) working six scoreless frames after the solo shot in the first. BOILER BITS Offensive Highlights Khloe Banks: 2-for-3 Anna Moore: 1-for-3, HR, RBI, R Pitching Breakdown Brianna Fontenot: (L, 8-5) 2.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 4 HP, 3 K, 18 BF Brooke Perez: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 14 BF The Boilers jumped on top early with a solo home run from the freshman, Moore, but Indiana responded immediately in the bottom of the inning, earning a run of its own to even the score. The Hoosiers added two more runs in the second and third innings, with the help of four batters being hit by a pitch, three in the third inning. Brooke Perez came to the mound in the third, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings in relief, but while leaving four runners on base, and racking up seven strikeouts, Purdue was unable to close the deficit in the rivalry loss. With the sun out and temperatures in the mid-60s, it was a perfect day for football. After beginning the afternoon with some specific individual and group drills, the offense went up against a defense for a scrimmage that lasted about an hour. Following the conclusion of the showcase, head coach Barry Odom was pleased with the way his Boilermakers wrapped up spring practices. “I like this group,” said Odom. “For 15 practices, plus another 20 walk-through days and meeting days, they have done absolutely everything we’ve asked. They’re hungry to do it the Purdue way, they’re hungry to bring winning back to the fans and the people that care about this program. We’re on a mission to get it done.” Throughout the spring, it was evident that the Boilermakers were bigger and stronger compared to a season ago. Competing in a conference that has produced the last three national champions, Ryan Browne noted the difference as he enters his second season as Purdue’s starting quarterback. “In the Big Ten, you’re going to win games in the trenches,” said Browne. “I think our o-line and d-line have both improved a ton, and I’m really excited to see how they’re going to do this fall.” Linebacker Charles Correa agreed with Browne when talking about his teammates on the line. “Their mentality is different,” said Correa. “It makes my job so much easier, I love playing behind those guys. From their tenacity to their physicality, their pursuit to the ball every play is special.” Boilermakers from the past returned to campus as part of Purdue Football Alumni Weekend, tailgating before the showcase before walking through Tiller Tunnel to watch team warmups. Following the showcase, the alums had lunch in the Purdue Athletic Dining facility before meeting with Odom, offensive coordinator Josh Henson and defensive coordinator Kevin Kane. The Boilermakers now look ahead to their summer workouts that will build strength, speed and endurance going into fall camp. ======================================================= PURDUE TRACK ATHENS, Ga. – Purdue Track & Field’s men’s 4x400m sets a new school record (3:02.15) to close out Purdue’s strong weekend at the Spec Towns Invitational that featured 10 top 10 performances in school history. Notre Dame becomes the first team in NCAA history to knock off the No. 1 team in back-to-back games. Tyler Spano continued his dominant run at the faceoff dot, winning 10-of-17 draws against the top FOGO entering Saturday, Brady Wambach. Spano also scooped up six ground balls. Thomas Ricciardelli was masterful in goal, making a season-high 15 saves while allowing just five past him in the victory. The senior improved to 8-1 on the season. On the offensive end Luke Miller and Teddy Lally each notched hat tricks, scoring three goals apiece to pace the Irish attack. Graduate student Josh Yago played the role of distributor, tallying a season-high three assists. HOW IT HAPPENED Notre Dame found itself trailing after the opening 15 minutes of play for just the second time this season, as the Tar Heels converted two man-up opportunities to take a 2-0 lead into the second quarter. The Irish offense came to life almost immediately, scoring twice in the first two minutes of the second stanza off goals from Miller and Brock Behrman to level the score at 2-2. Notre Dame continued its run, putting two more past the UNC goalie, courtesy of scores from Will Angrick and Lally to take a two-goal lead of its own at 4-2 with 6 minutes left in the first half. The Tar Heels pulled one back before the half to make it a one-goal game at 4-3 heading into the break. UNC managed to tie the game at 4-4 just 12 seconds into the second half but the Irish quickly jumped back in front. Yago found Jalen Seymour in space on an extra-man opportunity and Seymour rifled his shot into the net and then 2 minutes later Matt Jeffery got into the action with his first of the day to make it 6-4. The Irish and Tar Heels each added one more goal in the third period to move the score to 7-5 heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation. Notre Dame suffocated the Tar Heel offense in the fourth, shutting the Tar Heels out while adding three more goals to the ledger to completely break the game open. Lally scored twice and Miller added one to put the exclamation mark on the 10-5 statement win. STAT OF THE GAME Notre Dame turned in arguably the best defensive performance in the entire college lacrosse season, holding UNC to just five goals. The Tar Heels had scored double-digit goals in all 11 of their games coming into the matchup. The Fighting Irish defense held two of the country’s top attackmen, Dom Pietramala and Owen Duffy, to one goal apiece. NOTRE DAME NOTES The Irish improved to 15-11 against UNC in the all-time series and has won each of the last six matchups. In the six-straight wins over the Tar Heels the Irish have held them to single-digits in all six meetings. Notre Dame is now 7-5 when playing the No. 1 team in the USILA poll at the time of the matchup, including a mark of 7-1 in its last eight games against the nation’s top-ranked team. The Irish have now won 53 straight games when holding their opponent to less than 10 goals in a game, a streak that dates back to the 2019 season. With three assists, Yago has scored three or more points in eight of nine games this season. Miller recorded his fourth hat trick of the 2026 campaign, finishing with three goals. Lally scored a career-high three goals, marking his first hat trick of his career. Will Donovan scooped up five ground balls, marking the third time this season the senior has recorded at least five in a game. UP NEXT Notre Dame plays its final road game of the regular season next weekend, taking on No. 11/12 Duke in Durham in an ACC clash at noon ET on Saturday, April 18 at Koskinen Stadium. The game will air on ESPNU. ======================================================= NOTRE DAME BASEBALL SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame baseball team took a 5-3 win over No. 13 Virginia on Saturday to set up a Sunday rubber match for the series at Frank Eck Stadium. Drew Berkland helped keep the Cavaliers off the scoreboard early with a catch at the base of the wall in left-center field to end the top of the third. Mark Quatrani had a one-out single to left field before moving to second on a wild pitch. Bino Watters then used an opposite-field single to left field to drive in Quatrani for the first run of the game. Drew Berkland drew a walk, and Watters tagged up to third on a foul fly out to put runners on the corners. Berkland stole second, and Jayce Lee drove both men in with a single to left field for a 3-0 Irish lead. Jack Radel continued his quality start with a three-up, three down inning, which was capped off by a stellar catch by Brandon Logan in the left-center gap at the wall. The Irish added to their advantage in the bottom of the fourth. Jamie Zee reached on a fielder’s choice before Noah Coy Drew a walk. The pair executed the double-steal, and Mark Quatrani went the opposite way with a single to right field to drive in the duo to make it 5-0. Radel again retired the side in order in the top of the fifth and added a one-two-three effort in the top of the sixth. The Cavaliers got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run. Radel, however, forced Virginia into stranding runners on first and second with two huge back-to-back strikeouts to maintain the 5-2 lead. Virginia got a run in the top of the eighth and had bases loaded before Will Jaisle had a three-pitch strikeout to shut the door on the inning. Jaisle then retired the side in order in the top of the ninth to secure the 5-3 Irish win with the first save of his career. Mark Quatrani went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run, and Bino Watters was 2-for-4 at the dish with an RBI and a run in the win. Jayce Lee had a hit and drove in two, and Drew Berkland hit a double and scored a run. Noah Coy and Jamie Zee each scored once for the Irish. Jack Radel had a quality start and earned the win after going 7.0 with five strikeouts on the mound. The junior righty had four hitless innings from the third through the sixth and needed just 88 pitches to earn the win. Eli Thurmond and Caden Crowell each made an appearance in relief. Will Jaisle closed out the final 1.2 innings of the contest with zero hits allowed, zero runs surrendered and two strikeouts for the save. The Irish (16-14, 7-10 ACC) face the Cavaliers in the series rubber match starting at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Frank Eck Stadium. ================================================ NOTRE DAME WOMEN’S LAX SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 15/19 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-4, 5-4) fell in a heartbreaking 9-10 loss in quadruple overtime on the road at No. 3/3 Syracuse (12-3, 7-2). This is the first overtime game of the season and is just the second quadruple overtime game in program history, with the only other one also happening against Syracuse nearly 16 years ago (May 6, 2010). The Irish dominated the draw circle 18-6 with Uma Kowalski finishing with 12 draw controls, while also grabbing one ground ball and causing a turnover. The freshman draw specialist now has 132 draw controls so far this season. Notre Dame finished with seven goal scorers on the day. Emma Murphy and Kate Timarky lead the Irish with two goals apiece as Murphy finished with a team-best three points. Maura Irish finished with one goal, two caused turnovers, two ground balls, and five draw controls. The rest of Notre Dame’s scoring came from Madison Rassas, Charley Bacigalupo, Grace Maroney, and Mackenzie Conley, who each finished with one goal apiece. Meghan O’Hare dished out a team-best two assists and recorded two ground balls, one draw control, and caused one turnover. Defensively, the O’Brien sisters were wreaking havoc as they finished with a combined seven caused turnovers. Lila O’Brien finished with four caused turnovers and a ground ball while Franny O’Brien finished with three caused turnovers and tied her career-high of five ground balls. Defender Abby Lyons also recorded a pair of ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Isabel Pithie finished with four saves on the day, three of which were big-time stops in overtime for the Irish. HOW IT HAPPENED It was a battle of the defenses as the Syracuse Orange came in as the fourth-ranked scoring defense in the country (7.21) and the Irish came in as the sixth-ranked scoring defense (7.43). With Bacigalupo getting the Irish on the board first with a free position goal, Notre Dame and Syracuse both swapped goals to leave it at a level 2-2 after the first period. O’Hare assisted on both Irish goals to start the second quarter as Maura Irish’s goal was quickly followed by a goal from Rassas to make it 4-2. The Orange would send home one last goal to make it a one-goal at halftime as the Irish led 4-3 heading into the third period. With four different goal scorers in the first half for the Irish, Timarky scored a free-position goal for her second goal of the game to give the Irish a 5-3 advantage. Syracuse, however, would start to pick up momentum as they closed out the period with a 4-1 run as their goals were broken up by a Maroney goal. After leading by one at the half, the Irish now trailed by one heading into the fourth quarter. Syracuse’s momentum carried into the fourth as they continued their run by scoring two goals to take the largest lead of the day for a three-goal advantage. While the Irish trailed 6-9 with 7:43 remaining, Notre Dame wasn’t going anywhere. The Irish chipped away, stringing together three straight goals to level the slate at 9-all. A goal from Murphy sparked the 3-0 run as a big-time free position goal from Conley was followed by another big-time free position goal from Murphy to tie it up. Pithie was a huge factor down the stretch for the Irish as she recorded her first save of the day with just eight seconds left as the Orange took the final shot on the last possession in hopes to win it in regulation. The defensive battle continued as neither team was able to get a single shot off in the first overtime period. While the Irish had one shot compared to the Orange’s three shots in the second overtime, Pithie recorded two more big saves to keep the Irish in it as a third overtime would ensue. This time the Irish would outshoot the Orange 4-2 in the third overtime, but neither team was able to get the ball in the back of the net as each defensive unit was relentless in their efforts. Syracuse was able to get two shots off in the final 20 seconds of the fourth overtime and while Pithie recorded yet another big save on the first shot, the Orange would find a way to score on their second shot in the closing seconds to take the quadruple overtime win. UP NEXT The Irish will host Louisville on Thursday, April 16 at 5:00 p.m. at Arlotta for the final regular season game of the year. ================================================ NOTRE DAME SOFTBALL SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame softball team (17-24, 6-11 ACC) dropped Saturday’s slugfest to Louisville (33-9, 9-4 ACC) by a score of 8-5, on a sunny afternoon at Melissa Cook Stadium. The 23-year-old outfielder connects off Harry McIntire in the top of the second inning in the team’s 2-0 Opening Day victory over the Superbas. 1909 The 61-year history of Shibe Park begins with the A’s defeating the Red Sox, 8-1. The Philadelphia stadium, renamed to honor Connie Mack in 1953, is the first concrete and steel ballpark in major league history. 1916 On Opening Day, the Giants begin the season with a 5-4 loss to the Phillies at the Baker Bowl. The game marks the debut of New York’s new purple plaid uniforms, fortunately, a trend that will last only a year. 1927 Giants’ first baseman Bill Terry becomes the first major leaguer to hit a grand slam on Opening Day. The New York infielder’s four-run round-tripper comes off Phillies’ right-hander Hal Carlson in the fifth inning of the team’s 15-7 victory at Baker Bowl. 1931 Former Cubs pilot Joe McCarthy debuts as the Yankee manager, beating Boston at the Bronx ballpark, 6-3. The future Hall of Fame manager, the team’s all-time leader in managerial wins with 1460, guides the club to eight pennants and seven World Championships during his 16-year tenure in the Bronx. 1935 The Yankees name Lou Gehrig the fifth captain in team history. The 33-year-old first baseman joins Hal Chase (1912), Roger Peckinpaugh (1914-1921), Babe Ruth (six days in 1922), and Everett Scott (1922-1925) to receive the honor as a player. (Our thanks to Howard W. Rosenberg of www.capanson.com for calling attention to the entry’s incorrect date, commonly mistaken for April 21st). 1953 During an exhibition game in Brooklyn, the Ebbets Field PA announcer informs the crowd, including the new dad, when he approaches home plate to bat, “Mickey doesn’t know it yet, but he has just become the father of an eight-pound, twelve-ounce baby boy.” Mickey Mantle Jr., whose middle name is Elven in memory of the Yankee slugger’s recently deceased dad, is the first of four children, all sons, with his wife, Merlyn. 1955 At Municipal Stadium, the recently arrived Athletics beat the Tigers, 6-2, in their first game in Kansas City. At first, the Missouri fans will warmly receive the franchise’s shift from Philadelphia as the A’s draw 1,393,054 patrons to the ballpark in their first season, second only to the Yankees in the American League. 1955 Pinch-hitting for Braves’ southpaw Warren Spahn, Chuck Tanner, who becomes better known for his managerial skills, hits a home run on the first pitch he sees in the major leagues. The 26-year-old outfielder’s eighth-inning round-tripper off Gerry Staley ties the score in Milwaukee’s eventual 4-2 victory over Cincinnati at County Stadium. 1955 In front of a standing-room crowd of 32,147 at Kansas City’s Municipal Stadium, 70-year-old former US president Harry Truman throws out the ceremonial first pitch as a southpaw before the A’s take the field in their first home game in the City of Fountains. The enthusiastic fans support the transplanted team from Philadelphia with a large civic parade before the newcomers take a 6-2 decision from the Tigers. 1960 In the first game ever played at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park, after Vice President Richard Nixon throws out the ceremonial first pitch, Giants’ starter Sam Jones three-hits the Cardinals, 3-1. During the third inning, the umpires noticed that both foul poles were positioned well inside fair territory, necessitating improvising a new ground rule to address the problem. 1960 The Indians trade Norm Cash to the Tigers in exchange for Steve Demeter. The Tribe, who acquired Cash in the off-season from the White Sox, will regret the move, giving away a future American League batting champ, who will hit 373 homers during his 15 years in Detroit, in exchange for a third baseman who plays only four games with the franchise. 1962 In front of 40,000 fans, the expansion Mets are honored with a ticker-tape parade up lower Broadway. The players, wearing their brand new home uniforms, broadcasters, and other officials ride in open convertibles, throwing plastic baseballs to the enthusiastic crowd as they drive by. 1962 Making his major league debut, Pete Richert emerges from the bullpen and strikes out the first six batters he faces, a major league record. The rookie southpaw fans four in the third inning in LA’s 11-7 comeback victory over the Reds at Dodger Stadium. 1965 The A’s mascot, Charlie-O the Mule, chosen to spotlight the role Missouri mules played in the Allies’ victory in World War I by lugging ammunition and supplies through the mud and snow of France, makes his debut on Opening Night at Kansas City’s Municipal Stadium. In a pregame ceremony, Warren Hearnes, the governor of Missouri, presents the 1,400-pound animal to team owner Charlie O. Finley, who rides his namesake much to the delight of the 18,109 fans attending the game against the Tigers. 1965 Joe Torre hits two home runs in Milwaukee’s 4-2 Opening Day victory at Crosley Field in Cincinnati. Next season on the same date, the Braves catcher will do it again, joining teammate Eddie Mathews as the only major leaguers to hit two round-trippers twice in games played on Opening Day. 1965 At the Astrodome, the Astros drop the first regular-season indoor game to the Phillies, 2-0. Houston third baseman Bob Aspromonte, who collected the first Houston hit in Colt Stadium in 1962, also gets the first hit in the Astrodome, and Dick Allen of the Phillies blasts the first National League homer in the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World.’ 1966 Atlanta’s first-ever major league game goes overtime when Pittsburgh beats the hometown Braves, 3-2. With the game deadlocked at 1-1 in the top of the thirteenth inning, starter Tony Cloninger, who will go the distance, gives up a two-run homer to Willie Stargell. 1966 On Opening Day, Jim Lonborg’s 13th-inning balk plates Bob Johnson with the deciding run in Baltimore’s 5-4 victory. The Red Sox reliever’s miscue on the mound occurs with two outs and the bases loaded at Fenway Park. 1967 On Opening Day at Boston’s Fenway Park, the Red Sox attract only 8,324 fans to watch the team beat Chicago, 5-4. The eventual American League champs finished last season in ninth place with a 72-90 record. 1970 Phil Roof, followed by Hank Aaron and Felipe Alou, becomes the first of only three major leaguers to play for the Milwaukee Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers, scoring three runs in the team’s 16-2 rout of Chicago at White Sox Park. In 1960, the catcher made his major league debut with the Braves, appearing in three games before being traded to the Angels in 1964. 1972 The first players’ strike in baseball history ends when the owners agree to add salary arbitration to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and a $500,000 increase in pension fund payments. The owners will cancel the 86 games missed during the 13-day strike, refusing to compensate the players for their lost time during the work stoppage. 1976 Rain postpones the game against the Padres at Dodger Stadium, marking only the second rainout in the 14-year history of the ballpark. The washout ends a streak that started in April 1967, covering a span of 724 straight contests, with subsequent postponements coming much sooner when inclement weather cancels two consecutive home dates in September. 1977 On Opening Day, fans attending the Comiskey Park contest receive a foam ball with the idea of having the first pitch of the White Sox season thrown by everybody in the stands. The concept is the brainchild of Rudie Schaffer, team owner Bill Veeck’s right-hand man, also credited with the Bat Day promotion and the innovative exploding scoreboard. 1980 En route to an 18-1 rout of the Red Sox, the Brewers become the third team this century to hit grand slams in the same inning when Cecil Cooper and Don Money go deep with the bases loaded in the second frame of the County Stadium contest. Twins teammates Bob Allison and Harmon Killebrew accomplished the feat against Cleveland in 1962, and Denis Menke and Jim Wynn did it for the Astros in 1969 against the Mets. 1986 In a humiliating 9-8 extra-inning loss against the Phillies, the Mets blow a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth, thanks, in part, to Keith Hernandez’s error allowing the leadoff batter to reach base, opening the floodgates to Philadelphia’s comeback. Six years later, the New York first baseman’s Veterans Stadium miscue (albeit placed on the wrong date and season in a different venue) becomes the background of a conspiracy theory detailed in an hour-long Seinfeld episode, The Boyfriend. 1988 Frank Robinson replaces Cal Ripken Sr. as the Orioles’ manager after the team gets off to a 0-6 start. The new skipper, who has previously managed the Indians and Giants, will be winless in his first 15 games in the Baltimore dugout. 1988 Bobby Witt ties an American League record, committing four balks in the Rangers’ 4-1 loss in Detroit. The major league record for the most balks in one game is five, established in 1963 by Braves’ right-hander Bob Shaw, which included three in the third inning of the team’s 7-5 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field. 1990 Brett Butler walks five times in the Giants’ 13-4 win over the Braves at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The speedy outfielder will score four times after being issued a free pass. 1992 In a doubleheader at Cleveland, the Indians are no-hit by Red Sox hurler Matt Young in the first game but win, 2-1, and in the nightcap, the Tribe gets only two safeties off Roger Clemens to set a major league record for fewest hits (2) in a twin bill. 1993 Barry Bonds, who signed a six-year, $43 million deal as a free agent, the richest contract in baseball history, delights the crowd of 56,689 at Candlestick Park by homering in his first at-bat in front of the hometown fans. The clean-up hitter’s second-inning drive to deep right field off Chris Hammond proves to be the difference in the Giants’ 4-3 extra-inning victory over Florida. 1994 Scott Cooper hits for the cycle, the first Red Sox player since Mike Greenwell to accomplish the feat in 1988, driving in five runs to help the team rout the Royals at Kauffman Stadium, 22-11. The third baseman’s fifth-inning triple is the result of being thrown out at the plate trying to stretch the three-bagger into an inside-the-park home run. 2001 The Blue Jays postpone the game against the Royals when SkyDome’s retractable dome gets jammed during a routine test opening, sending chunks of the roof, some as big as eight feet by six feet, crashing onto the field below. The gaping hole in the dome is visible from the outside of the ballpark, making the damage easy to spot by the city’s commuters on a nearby expressway. 2001 The combat-ready Padres, wearing camouflage jerseys and green caps, finally win the battle against the Giants after five consecutive losses to the black and orange, 8-3. San Diego donned the uniforms to honor the area’s significant military population. 2002 In front of 48,244 loud and enthusiastic fans at the Metrodome, their first sellout since winning the World Series in 1991, the Twins beat the Tigers in the home opener, 4-2. The MLB had considered eliminating the Minnesota franchise under its contraction plan proposed during the off-season. 2002 Barry Bonds, with his 574th career round-tripper, passes former Twin first baseman Harmon Killebrew on the all-time home run list. The Giants’ left fielder hit his milestone homer, which ranks him sixth overall, in the first inning off Nelson Figueroa in the Giants’ 3-2 victory over Milwaukee. 2003 Fenway’s Green Monster, the left-field wall in the major league’s smallest park, has a new look. In the place of a net that the team used to collect home run balls that cleared the wall, the fans now occupy the space, sitting 310 feet away and 40 feet above the field, as they watch Red Sox right-hander Pedro Martinez give up ten runs in 4.1 innings in a 13-6 loss to the Orioles. 2003 With a 5-2 victory over the Indians at Cleveland’s Jacobs Field, the Royals set a franchise record for victories at the start of the season, winning their ninth consecutive game since Opening Day. In 1977, Kansas City won 16 straight from August 31st through September 15th for the overall team’s mark for consecutive wins. 2004 The Phillies unveiled a ten-foot bronze statue of Richie Ashburn at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies’ new home. Zenos Frudakis’s work of the five-time All-Star is located behind centerfield in Ashburn Alley, in the team’s Walk of Fame. 2004 At the Giants’ home opener at SBC Park, the passing of the torch occurs both literally and figuratively when Barry Bonds hit his 660th career homer to tie his godfather, Willie Mays, for third on the all-time home run list. The 72-year-old Hall of Famer Mays greets his godson at home plate with a torch studded with $18,000 of diamonds forming the numbers 660, 25 (Barry’s number), and 1 (the number of round-trippers needed to move ahead). 2004 At a Safeco Field news conference, Seattle announces that the team has signed free agent Nelson Cruz to a four-year, $58 million deal. The Mariners acquired the right-handed slugging outfielder, who led the big leagues with 40 home runs last season while playing for the Orioles, to bat behind Robinson Cano, giving the switch-hitting second baseman more protection in the lineup. 2006 Twenty-two-year-old college senior Jeffrey Maier hits a third-inning two-bagger against Bates to become the all-time career hits leader at Wesleyan, with 169, surpassing the 2003 mark set by Bill Robinson. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound third baseman gained national notoriety a decade ago as a 12-year-old fan when he leaned over the Yankee Stadium fence to snag Derek Jeter’s fly ball ‘homer,’ which prevented Orioles outfielder Tony Tarasco from catching the ball during the 1996 ALCS. 2008 The Charleston RiverDogs, a Class-A minor league affiliate of the Yankees, commemorate the first visit of Benedict XVI to the United States with a Pope on a Rope Night promotion. The first 1,000 fans attending the South Atlantic League game against Rome at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park receive a soap figurine bearing a likeness of the Holy Father. 2009 A pair of tickets for the Mets home opener at Citi Field, with a face value of $525 apiece, is auctioned off for $7,500 on eBay. The ducats belonged to Bernard Madoff, who is in jail after pleading guilty last month to defrauding investors, including Mets owner Fred Wilpon, in a $65 billion Ponzi scheme. 2009 With runners taking off from first and second base, Pirates’ shortstop Jack Wilson turns Reds third baseman Edwin Encarnacion’s soft liner into a triple play. The triple killing is the Bucs’ first since 1993 and the team’s first on the road in 41 years. 2010 With 9,129 fans in attendance, the smallest crowd in the 19-year history of the ballpark, the Orioles lose to Tampa Bay at Camden Yards, 5-1. The club, off to a 1-6 start in the new season, has scored only three runs in their last three games. 2010 On an unusually warm spring day, the hometown Twins beat Boston, 5-2, in the first regular-season game at Target Field. Minnesota DH Jason Kubel hits the ballpark’s first home run, a seventh-inning shot into the right-field seats. 2011 The Rakuten Eagles, unable to use their stadium due to the extensive damage caused by last month’s massive earthquake and tsunami, beat the Chiba Lotte Marines at QVC Marine Field, 6-4, in Japan’s Pacific League opener. The crowd of 22,525 attending the game is not disturbed after feeling an aftershock at the ballpark caused by an earthquake in Chiba earlier in the day. 2012 Paulo Orlando becomes the first major leaguer to have each of his first three career hits be a triple when he bangs out his second three-bagger in the Royals’ 9-2 victory over Los Angeles at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Three days ago, the 29-year-old rookie outfielder also legged out a three-bag base hit off White Sox left-hander John Danks after being walked in his big-league debut at the plate. 2022 Alyssa Nakken replaces Antoan Richardson after the Giants’ first base coach was ejected during the team’s eventual 13-2 victory over San Diego at Oracle Park, becoming the first woman on-field coach in MLB history. The assistant coach for manager Gabe Kapler, a San Francisco’s front office member since 2014, is greeted with a handshake from Padres’ first baseman Eric Hosmer. ========================================================= TV SPORTS TODAY Sunday, 4/12/26 MLB REGULAR SEASONTIME ETTVArizona Diamondbacks vs Philadelphia Phillies1:35pmNBCS-PHIDBacks.TVSan Francisco Giants vs Baltimore Orioles1:35pmNBCS-BAYMASNMinnesota Twins vs Toronto Blue Jays1:37pmTwins.TVSNLos Angeles Angels vs Cincinnati Reds1:40pmFanDuel Sports WestReds.TVMiami Marlins vs Detroit Tigers1:40pmSN-DETMarlins.TVAthletics vs New York Mets1:40pmSNYNBCS-CANew York Yankees vs Tampa Bay Rays1:40pmRays.TVYESChicago White Sox vs Kansas City Royals2:10pmCHSNRoyals.TVWashington Nationals vs Milwaukee Brewers2:10pmNationals.TVBrewers.TVBoston Red Sox vs St. Louis Cardinals2:15pmNESNCardinals.TVPittsburgh Pirates vs Chicago Cubs2:20pmSN-PITMARQColorado Rockies vs San Diego Padres4:10pmRockies.TVPadres.TVHouston Astros vs Seattle Mariners4:10pmSCHNMariners.TVTexas Rangers vs Los Angeles Dodgers4:10pmRSNSNLACleveland Guardians vs Atlanta Braves7:20pmNBCPeacockNBA REGULAR SEASONTIME ETTVCharlotte Hornets vs New York Knicks6:00pmFanDuel Sports CHAMSGMilwaukee Bucks vs Philadelphia 76ers6:00pmFanDuel Sports MILNBCS-PHIBrooklyn Nets vs Toronto Raptors6:00pmYESSNWashington Wizards vs Cleveland Cavaliers6:00pmMNMT2FanDuel Sports OhioDetroit Pistons vs Indiana Pacers6:00pmFanDuel Sports INDFanDuel Sports DETAtlanta Hawks vs Miami Heat6:00pmFanDuel Sports ATLFanDuel Sports SunOrlando Magic vs Boston Celtics6:00pmFanDuel Sports FLNBCS-BOSGolden State Warriors vs Los Angeles Clippers8:30pmNBCS-BAYFanDuel Sports SoCalSacramento Kings vs Portland Trail Blazers8:30pmRip CityNBCS-CAUtah Jazz vs Los Angeles Lakers8:30pmKJZZSpectrum<Denver Nuggets vs San Antonio Spurs8:30pmFanDuel Sports SWALTPhoenix Suns vs Oklahoma City Thunder8:30pmAFSNFanDuel Sports OKCMemphis Grizzlies vs Houston Rockets8:30pmSCHNFanDuel Sports MEMNew Orleans Pelicans vs Minnesota Timberwolves8:30pmFanDuel Sports NorthGCSNChicago Bulls vs Dallas Mavericks8:30pmCHSNKFAANHL REGULAR SEASONTIME ETTVPittsburgh Penguins vs Washington Capitals3:00pmTNTMAXMontreal Canadiens vs New York Islanders6:00pmSNMSGSNBoston Bruins vs Columbus Blue Jackets6:00pmNESNFanDuel Sports OhioOttawa Senators vs New Jersey Devils7:00pmSNMSGSN2Vancouver Canucks vs Anaheim Ducks8:00pmSNVictory+Utah Mammoth vs Calgary Flames9:00pmVictory+FanDuel Sports MWCOLLEGE BASEBALLTIME ETTVFlorida at Georgia12:00pmSECNIndiana at Maryland12:00pmBTNNorth Carolina at Clemson12:30pmESPNStanford at Louisville1:00pmACCNKentucky at Auburn3:00pmSECNRadford at High Point3:00pmESPNUArizona at TCU3:30pmESPN2COLLEGE SOFTBALLTIME ETTVArizona at LSU12:00pmESPNOklahoma at Texas2:00pmESPNOhio State at Michigan3:00pmBTNVirginia Tech at Virginia4:00pmACCNPurdue at Indiana5:00pmBTNCalifornia at N.C.
