UNDRAFTED ROOKIE QUARTERBACK BRADY COOK TO MAKE FIRST NFL START FOR JETS AGAINST JAGUARS
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Undrafted rookie quarterback Brady Cook will make his first NFL start Sunday for the New York Jets against the Jaguars in Jacksonville.
Cook took the snaps with the starters this week and coach Aaron Glenn said on Friday that Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields were ruled out for the game. Neither practiced during the week while dealing with injuries.
Adrian Martinez, who was signed earlier this week, will serve as the backup to Cook.
Cook will become the 55th player to start at quarterback in franchise history, and the first undrafted rookie to do so for the Jets since J.J. Jones in 1975.
Taylor made his third straight start for the benched Fields last Sunday before injuring his groin late in the first quarter of the Jets’ 34-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Cook, who was Taylor’s backup because Fields was ruled out ahead of the game with knee soreness, came in and went 14 of 30 for 163 yards and two interceptions in his NFL regular-season debut.
Cook, who threw for 9,008 yards and 49 touchdowns with 15 interceptions in five seasons at Missouri, was signed to the active roster last Saturday. He was promoted from the practice squad for two previous games this season, but hadn’t played in the regular season.
Cook was 25 of 38 for 235 yards and a touchdown with one interception in three preseason games.
Glenn said tight end Mason Taylor (neck), linebacker Kiko Mauigoa (knee) and cornerback Azareye’h Thomas will also be out for the game.
Center extension
The Jets announced they signed center Josh Myers to a multiyear contract extension, keeping the leader of their offensive line in place through the 2027 season.
Myers was a bargain signing last offseason, joining the Jets on a one-year deal worth $3.5 million. The team didn’t announce terms of the extension, but ESPN reported it’s a two-year, $11 million contract.
Myers, who spent his first four NFL seasons in Green Bay, has started every game this season at center. Joe Tippmann, the Jets’ center most of the past two seasons, has been the starter at right guard after Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered a torn triceps just before the regular season.
WEEK 15 NFL CAPSULES
NEW YORK JETS (3-10) AT JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (9-4)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Jaguars -13.5, Total 41.5
Series Rewind: The Jets have won two of the last three games over the Jaguars, including a 32-25 road win on Dec. 15, 2024. The all-time series is tied 9-9.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are riding high, entering the week on a four-game win streak and in sole possession of first place in the AFC South after last week’s 36-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts. QB Trevor Lawrence appears to have turned a corner when it comes to turnovers. After he had 11 interceptions in the team’s first 11 games this season, he’s been interception free the last two weeks, throwing for 473 passing yards and four touchdowns vs. the Colts and Titans. Lawrence (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday, but returned to full participation Thursday. He faces a Jets defense still looking for its first interception of the season. It appears likely New York will start its third different quarterback this season on Sunday after Tyrod Taylor (groin) left early in last week’s game. Taylor and Justin Fields (knee) have both missed each of the first two practices of the week, likely lining up rookie Brady Cook for his first career start. Thrown into his first NFL action last week, Cook struggled as the Jets limped to a 34-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. He completed 14 of 30 passes for 163 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. If Taylor and Fields are out, the Jets signed Adrian Martinez to the practice squad this week and he would step into the backup role.
WASHINGTON COMMANDERS (3-10) AT NEW YORK GIANTS (2-11)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Giants -2.5, Total 46.5
Series Rewind: With a 107-73-5 record all-time, the Giants own this storied division rivalry that dates to 1932. But the Commanders have won three straight meetings, including a 21-6 home victory back in Week 1.
Barring a tie, one of these teams will go home happy for the first time since early October, as Washington has dropped eight straight games — the longest active losing streak in the NFL — and New York has lost its last seven. The first matchup between young franchise quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Jaxson Dart will have to wait. The Commanders have already ruled out the oft-injured Daniels, who fell hard on his previously dislocated left elbow and departed the 31-0 loss at Minnesota last Sunday. Instead, Marcus Mariota will make his seventh start of the season. Dart returned from a concussion in Week 13 and threw for 139 yards and a touchdown in a 33-15 loss to the Patriots. Despite similar records, New York and Washington have managed to lose in different ways. The Giants have lost five games in which they led in the fourth quarter while Washington’s defeats have tended to be more definitive. The Commanders have lost by more than 20 points five times, including last week, when their 30th-ranked defense gave up 25 first downs and 313 yards to a Vikings team that had been shut out the previous week. The Giants rank 31st in total defense and yielded 34 and 33 points in their past two losses to the Lions and Patriots.
BALTIMORE RAVENS (6-7) AT CINCINNATI BENGALS (4-9)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Ravens -2.5, Total 51.5
Series Rewind: Cincinnati’s 18-point victory last month ended a four-game skid against the Ravens. Baltimore’s two victories last season were by a combined four points.
The Ravens have lost back-to-back games and fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-22 last week in the battle for the AFC North lead. Making the situation more dire is that Baltimore also stands two games out of the last AFC wild-card spot. The Ravens finish with three of four on the road, beginning with the visit to Cincinnati, where bone-chilling temperatures are in the forecast. The Bengals roughed up host Baltimore 32-14 on Thanksgiving as Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow returned from a toe injury to pass for 261 yards and two touchdowns. Ravens-killer Ja’Marr Chase had seven receptions for 110 yards and has 28 catches for 567 yards and five touchdowns in his last three games against Baltimore. If the Bengals lose, they will be eliminated from playoff contention. Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson passed for 246 yards and committed three turnovers (one interception, two fumbles) in the recent meeting with the Bengals. Jackson threw one TD pass against Pittsburgh after failing to throw one in three consecutive games. Assorted leg injuries this season also have prevented him from being a running force. He had 307 yards and two scores. Derrick Henry has 1,025 rushing yards, marking the seventh time he has topped 1,000 in his superb 10-year career. Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith has reached 100 tackles in all eight seasons of his career. Safety Jordan Battle leads the Bengals with three interceptions and 101 tackles.
ARIZONA CARDINALS (3-10) AT HOUSTON TEXANS (8-5)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Texans -9.5, Total 42.5
Series Rewind: The Texans and Cardinals have played just six times and are tied 3-3 in the series. Two of those games have been in the last four seasons, with Houston winning 21-16 at home in 2023 and Arizona cruising to a 31-5 home win in 2021.
No team may be hotter at the moment than the Houston Texans, who won their fifth straight game Sunday night at Kansas City to rise into the playoff picture as the No. 7 seed entering Week 15. They’re positioned at the moment to be just the seventh team in NFL history to make the playoffs after an 0-3 start. The Texans’ defense has played a huge part in this surge, ranking No. 1 in the NFL in scoring defense (16.0 points per game) and total defense (266.3 yards). And yet, it could be CJ Stroud and the offense who lead the charge this week against an Arizona defense which has allowed 40-plus points in three of the last five games. Houston could be without running back Nick Chubb (ribs) this week after he missed Wednesday and Thursday’s practices. The Cardinals have been eliminated from playoff contention since Nov. 30 and enter on a five-game losing streak fresh off a 45-17 home loss to the Rams. While the defense has been consistently gouged of late, QB Jacoby Brissett has been putting up numbers in place of Kyler Murray, who it was announced last week was done for the season with a foot injury. Brissett has passed for 2,459 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions in eight games as a starter. He has Trey McBride, who is tied for the NFL lead with 93 receptions and leads all tight ends with 937 yards. However, it appears Arizona will be without receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. (heel) will miss another game this week after missing the first two practices.
LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (2-11) AT PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (8-5)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Eagles -11.5, Total 38.5
Series Rewind: The teams have split the 14 previous meetings, including the Raiders’ 27-10 victory in Super Bowl XV. The Raiders haven’t won in Philadelphia since 2001.
Las Vegas brings a seven-game losing streak to Philadelphia to face an Eagles team trying to avoid a repeat of 2023. The last time the Eagles lost three in a row was in December two years ago, part of an epic 1-5 collapse following a 10-1 start. Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts has turned the ball over seven times in his last two games, including a career-high four interceptions in Monday’s overtime loss to the Chargers. Eagles wideout A.J. Brown is tied for the longest active streak in the NFL with three straight 100-yard games. With Raiders signal-caller Geno Smith dealing with a right shoulder injury and Kenny Pickett gets the start against his former team. Pickett won a ring with the Eagles in February, got traded to Cleveland in March and got dealt again to Las Vegas in August. He was 14-10 as a starter for the Steelers from 2022-23 and 1-0 last season. Maxx Crosby needs one sack to reach double figures for the fourth time.
BUFFALO BILLS (9-4) AT NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (11-2)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Bills -1.5, Total 49.6
Series Rewind: New England beat Buffalo 23-20 on Oct. 5 and eyes its first season sweep of the Bills since 2019, when Tom Brady was the team’s quarterback.
The Patriots can win their first AFC East title this decade by taking down the Bills, who have won the division five consecutive years. New England is seeking its 11th straight victory and is gunning to be the No. 1 seed for the AFC postseason. The Patriots were just 4-13 last season but have enjoyed a memorable campaign in coach Mike Vrabel’s first season and quarterback Drake Maye’s second with the club. Maye has emerged as an NFL MVP candidate. The 23-year-old has completed a league-best 71.5 percent of his passes and is on track to break Brady’s franchise record of 68.9 percent set in 2007. Maye has thrown for 3,412 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. Of course, the reigning MVP is employed by the Bills. Josh Allen has passed for 3,083 yards and 22 touchdowns against 10 interceptions, while completing 70.1 percent of his throws. He also has rushed for 12 scores. In the first meeting, Maye passed for 273 yards while Allen threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns and was intercepted once. Buffalo has won five of its past seven games but a loss will leave the team battling for a wild-card berth. Bills running back James Cook (1,308) is second in rushing yardage but was held to 49 yards on 17 carries by the Patriots in the first meeting.
CLEVELAND BROWNS (3-10) AT CHICAGO BEARS (9-4)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: -7.5, Total 38.5
Series Rewind: This is the teams’ 19th meeting. Cleveland leads the all-time series 11-7, and the home team has won 10 of the past 11 games. In the most recent meeting, the Browns eked out a 20-17 home win on Dec. 17, 2023.
The forecast calls for single-digit temperatures along the shores of Lake Michigan. The Bears lost at Green Bay and forfeited the top spot in the NFC North last week. Cleveland has lost two straight and five of its past six, but the recent play of rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has given the franchise reason for optimism. Sanders passed for 364 yards, three touchdowns and one interception last week in a 31-29 home loss against the Tennessee Titans. The Browns hope to see defensive end Myles Garrett make history. He enters the weekend with a league-high 20 sacks in 13 games. He is 2.5 sacks shy of the NFL’s single-season record of 22 1/2, which Michael Strahan set in 2001 and T.J. Watt matched in 2021. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams knows that Garrett will be tough to stop. Williams wants no part of becoming the answer to a trivia question: Which quarterback did Garrett take down to break the sack record? “I’m going to try and make sure that he doesn’t get the sack record on us and on me,” Williams said. “… As a game plan … everything is not allowing them to wreck the game.
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (9-4) AT KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (6-7)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Chiefs -5.5, Total 41.5
Series Rewind: The Chargers beat the Chiefs in Brazil in Week 1, their first win in the past eight games in the series. Kansas City leads the all-time series 71-58-1.
A decade-long streak of playoff appearances is in dire jeopardy for the Chiefs will try to ignite their long-shot postseason chances when they play host to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The last time Kansas City was not a playoff participant was 2014, when Alex Smith was the quarterback. Patrick Mahomes has led each of the past seven playoff runs and not only has helped win three Super Bowls, but he has also never missed an AFC Championship Game as a starting QB. The Chiefs are on the outside of the playoff field, two games behind the Houston Texans, who hold the third and final AFC wild-card spot. The Chargers are playoff eligible as a wild-card qualifier. While Kansas City’s defense was much better over the second half last week, dropped passes held Mahomes to a paltry 160 yards through the air while completing just 14 of his 33 throws in the Chiefs’ third consecutive loss. Quarterback Justin Herbert had just 139 yards passing Monday and rookie first-round running back Omarion Hampton returned to the lineup.
GREEN BAY PACKERS (9-3-1) AT DENVER BRONCOS (11-2)
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Packers -2.5, Total 42.5
Series Rewind: The home team has won nine of the past 10 meetings.
The Packers pack for Denver after plucking away the NFC North division lead from the Bears in Week 14. The Broncos are baffled that they are still considered to be on proving ground as underdogs in Sunday’s home game. With a 10-game winning streak and two-game lead in the division the Broncos are still eyeing the top seed in the AFC. The Broncos (11-2) are two wins clear of the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West and can clinch a playoff berth with a win. The Packers have won four in a row, the last two against NFC North rivals Detroit and Chicago. Bo Nix has kept the Broncos on the right side of eight-one score victories this season. He has completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 2,954 yards, 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He is also third on the team in rushing (244 yards). The Broncos have leaned on their strong defense in more than a supporting role. Denver ranks fourth in the NFL in points allowed per game (18.1), second in rushing (89 yards), third in total yards per game (282) and first in total sacks (55). Green Bay can win a game with quarterback Jordan Love’s deep and talented groups of wide receivers. The Packers also can throw a knockout punch defensively. They rank sixth in points allowed (19 per game) and fifth in total yards per game (287.2). Micah Parson leads the team with 12.5 sacks and Rashan Gary has 7.5. Love, in his third year as Green Bay’s starter, has a career-high 67.1 completion percentage and has thrown 22 TD passes while only being intercepted four times. He has been sacked 18 times. Injuries the first two months of the season were a setback to strong protection, but not many blocking schemes are built to stonewall Denver’s pressure defense. Nik Bonitto has a team-best 12.5 sacks but the Broncos’ other three starters up front have 19 more combined, led by Jonathon Cooper (7.5).
TENNESSEE TITANS (2-11) AT SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (9-4)
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: 49ers -12.5, Total 44.5
Series Rewind: The 49ers hold a 9-6 lead in the series, including a 4-3 record at home. Eight of the last 10 meetings dating back to 1987 have been one-score games.
The last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft goes head-to-head with the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft when Brock Purdy and the 49ers host rookie Cam Ward and the Titans. Purdy won three straight starts before San Francisco’s bye last week and has thrown at least one TD pass in all five games this season. Teammate Christian McCaffrey is on pace for his second season with 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards with 849 and 806, respectively, while 49ers WR Jauan Jennings has touchdowns in four of his last five games. Ward leads all first-year QBs in passing yards (2,468) and had his first game with multiple TD passes in last week’s win at Cleveland. The Titans rank last in the NFL in total offense (246.2 yards per game) and 31st in scoring (15.5 points per game). Tennessee DT Jeffery Simmons will try to slow down a 49ers offense that ranks No. 2 in third-down conversions (48.2%).
CAROLINA PANTHERS (7-6) AT NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (3-10)
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Panthers -2.5, Total 40.5
Series Rewind: New Orleans earned its second win of the season and snapped a four-game losing streak with a surprising 17-7 win at Carolina on Nov. 9. The Saints have won four of the last five over the Panthers to lead the all-time series 33-29.
The Panthers benefited greatly during their bye week, watching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lose to New Orleans to fall into a tie atop the NFC South at 7-6. Seeing that may have caused some deja vu for Carolina’s players and staff after the Saints stunningly upset the Panthers back in Week 10. Avenging that loss on the road this time feels close to essential for Carolina’s chances at snapping the franchise’s seven-year playoff drought as the NFC South co-leaders are two games back of a wild-card spot. The Panthers’ last five games have been hard to get a read on, with wins at Green Bay and over the Rams last time out, but also with that home loss to New Orleans. Carolina comes out of the bye exceptionally healthy, with every active player fully participating in Thursday’s practice. All that’s left for New Orleans this season is the chance to play spoiler and continue to build for 2026 under rookie quarterback Tyler Shough. The Carolina game was Shough’s second start and first win and saw him throw for what remains a career-high 282 yards and two touchdowns. In last week’s win at Tampa Bay, Shough completed just 13 of 20 passes for 144 yards and an interception. However, he ran the ball seven times for 55 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns. Shough may be without one or two of his top running backs this week. Alvin Kamara (knee/ankle) appears poised to miss his third straight game after not practicing Wednesday or Thursday while rookie RB Devin Neal (abdomen) has been limited this week due to an injury he sustained in last week’s game.
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (8-5) AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (10-3)
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Seahawks -13.5, Total 42.5
Series Rewind: The Seahawks can even the all-time series at 7-7 by registering a third straight win against the Colts, who haven’t won a game in Seattle since the 2000 season. One of the big stories in the NFL this week was the Colts’ signing of 44-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers after Daniel Jones’ season-ending Achilles injury. Sixth-round rookie Riley Leonard replaced Jones in last weekend’s loss at Jacksonville and could be in line for his first career start if Rivers isn’t ready for his first game since Jan. 9, 2021. Indy’s Jonathan Taylor leads the NFL in rushing yards (1,356) and TDs from scrimmage (18) but faces a Seattle defense that ranks No. 4 against the run. The game also features the NFL’s No. 1 receiver in Seahawks star Jaxon Smith-Njigba (1,428 yards). Two of Seattle’s three losses have come at home this season, but the team pitched a 26-0 shutout against the Vikings in their most recent game at Lumen Field in Week 13.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS (5-8) AT DALLAS COWBOYS (6-6-1)
Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Cowboys -5.5, Total 48.5
Series Rewind: The Cowboys have won five of the past six meetings with Minnesota, including a 40-3 road victory in 2022 in the most recent matchup.
Both the Cowboys and Vikings face long playoff odds and a loss will eliminate Minnesota. Dallas has been receiving help from the NFC East-rival Philadelphia Eagles, who have lost three straight games to keep Dallas in the mix in the division race. The Cowboys have won three of their past four games as they ride the arm of Dak Prescott, the NFL leader with 3,637 passing yards. He also is tied for second with 26 passing touchdowns. Prescott has outputs of 354, 320 and 376 yards over the past three games. Standout receiver CeeDee Lamb (865 receiving yards) hasn’t cleared concussion protocol but should do so by Sunday night. Cowboys running back Javonte Williams has career highs of 1,022 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season with the club. The Vikings staved off elimination last weekend with a 31-0 shellacking of the Washington Commanders but can’t lose again and needs help from other teams to make the playoff field. J.J. McCarthy threw a career-high three touchdown passes against Washington and didn’t throw an interception for the first time in his seven NFL starts. Star receiver Justin Jefferson had just two catches for 11 yards against the Commanders one week after having two receptions for 4 yards in a 26-0 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL NEWS
NO. 5 UCONN HOLDS TEXAS AT BAY IN 6TH STRAIGHT WIN
Alex Karaban scored 18 points, including a crucial 3-pointer in the final minutes, as No. 5 UConn defeated Texas 71-63 on Friday in Hartford, Conn.
The Huskies (10-1), who have won six in a row, led by nine at halftime. The Longhorns (7-4) got to within 61-56 on a pair of free throws by Matas Vokietaitis with 4:30 left but Solo Ball and Karaban canned 3-pointers on successive possessions, the latter with 3:23 to play, to push UConn’s advantage to 11.
Texas trimmed its deficit to 69-63 after a layup by Tramon Mark with 34 seconds left. A dunk by Jaylin Stewart with 29 seconds remaining stoked UConn’s lead back to eight and all but sealed the win.
Tarris Reed Jr. added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists for UConn while Braylon Mullins and Stewart finished with 10 points apiece.
Jordan Pope and Mark led the Longhorns with 15 points each. Texas shot just 37.7% from the field while allowing UConn to shoot 54.7%.
The Huskies led 13-7 after a Ball dunk at the 15:27 mark capped an 8-2 run. Texas answered, making it 16-13 when Pope canned a 3-pointer with 13:16 left in the first half, but UConn swung back, rebuilding its advantage to 25-16 on a layup by Reed with 10:22 to play until halftime.
After the Huskies pushed the lead to 12 on a dunk by Stewart with 7:05 left, Texas reeled off nine of the next 10 points, clawing back to 33-29 on a Simeon Wilcher steal and dunk. The Longhorns pulled to within two on Pope’s second-chance layup with 2:54 left but UConn finished the half on an 8-1 run to carry a 43-34 lead into the break.
Karaban led all scorers with 11 points before halftime while Mullins and Reed added eight each for the Huskies. UConn shot 68% from the floor in the half and scored 24 of its points in the paint.
Pope paced Texas with nine points but the Longhorns went the final 2:54 of the half without a field goal, shooting 43.3% over the first 20 minutes.
The Longhorns pulled to within six on two occasions early in the second half and to 51-44 after a free throw by Lassina Traore with 14:35 remaining.

NBA ROUNDUP: TIMBERWOLVES SPOIL STEPHEN CURRY’S 39-POINT RETURN
Donte DiVincenzo buried a pair of late 3-pointers, Julius Randle led the way in the absence of Anthony Edwards with 27 points, and the Minnesota Timberwolves spoiled Stephen Curry’s 39-point return by defeating the Golden State Warriors 127-120 in San Francisco on Friday night.
Rudy Gobert had two dunks in a 17-0 fourth-quarter flurry and finished with a 24-point, 14-rebound double-double for the Timberwolves, who won for the sixth time in their last seven games despite playing without Edwards (foot) and backcourt mate Mike Conley (Achilles).
In action for the first time since suffering a strained left quad on Nov. 26, Curry was 14 of 28 from the field, including 6 of 15 from 3-point range, for the Warriors, who also were missing two key players in Draymond Green (personal) and Al Horford (back).
Seeking a third straight win, the Warriors led 96-91 after a layup by Moses Moody in the second minute of the fourth period. The Timberwolves then seized control by scoring 17 straight points while the hosts were missing eight straight shots and mixing in a pair of turnovers.
Cavaliers 130, Wizards 126
Donovan Mitchell scored a season-high 48 points to help Cleveland rally for a win over host Washington.
Mitchell hit eight 3-pointers, while Evan Mobley added 23 points and 13 rebounds and Darius Garland chipped in 18 points for the Cavaliers, who trailed by 17 points late in the third quarter. De’Andre Hunter scored 15 and Jaylon Tyson had 13 for Cleveland, which outscored Washington 45-26 in the fourth.
CJ McCollum and Bub Carrington led Washington with 27 points apiece. Marvin Bagley III finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds in the Wizards’ fourth straight loss.
Mavericks 119, Nets 111
Anthony Davis recorded 24 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots to help host Dallas beat Brooklyn for the Mavericks’ fifth win in six games.
Cooper Flagg had 22 points and eight assists for the Mavericks, while Naji Marshall scored 17 points, Max Christie had 15 off the bench and P.J. Washington added 13 for Dallas.
Michael Porter Jr. poured in 34 points and was 6 of 10 from 3-point range for the Nets. The output gave Porter a career-best four consecutive 30-point outings and he has reached that mark nine times overall this season. Brooklyn had won three of its previous four games.
Pistons 142, Hawks 115
Isaiah Stewart amassed 17 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead a balanced attack as Eastern Conference-leading Detroit overwhelmed visiting Atlanta.
Eight Pistons recorded double figures in scoring and two others tallied nine points. Cade Cunningham and Duncan Robinson contributed 15 points apiece, while Jalen Duren supplied 14 points and seven rebounds. Ronald Holland and Ausar Thompson added 12 points apiece, and Caris LeVert chipped in 10 points with eight assists.
Atlanta’s Nickeil Alexander-Walker led all scorers with 22 points. Jalen Johnson recorded a triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. Dyson Daniels added 18 points with 10 rebounds and five assists. The Hawks have dropped four of their last five games.
Jazz 130, Grizzlies 126
Keyonte George scored a career-high 39 points, Lauri Markkanen added 26 and Kevin Love had a season-best 20 to lead Utah past host Memphis in Ja Morant’s return to the Grizzlies.
Santi Aldama led the Grizzlies with 22 points and Morant contributed 21 points and 10 assists after missing 10 games with a calf strain. Cam Spencer added 20 points off the bench and went 6-for-6 from beyond the arc.
George dominated in the opening half. He made eight of his 13 field-goal attempts, including four of his six 3-pointers, and had 27 points at the break. George was held scoreless in the third quarter, but had 12 points in the fourth, including Utah’s final six points.
Bulls 129, Hornets 126
Josh Giddey scored 26 points, including six in the final 90 seconds, as Chicago came back to beat host Charlotte to end a seven-game losing streak.
Coby White poured in 20 points and reserves Zach Collins and Patrick Williams each scored 16 points for the Bulls, who avenged a loss in the same building from two weeks earlier. Giddey added 11 assists and seven rebounds in an all-around effort.
Kon Knueppel racked up 33 points and nine assists and Miles Bridges scored 20 of his 32 points in the first half for the Hornets, who’ve lost four of their last five games. Brandon Miller added 18 points as Charlotte remained without LaMelo Ball because of an ankle injury. Team rebounding leader Moussa Diabate was back for Charlotte, though he had only two points and three rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench.
76ers 115, Pacers 105
Joel Embiid scored a season-high 39 points as Philadelphia topped visiting Indiana. Playing in just his 10th game of the season, Embiid surpassed his previous high of 29 points while getting help from Paul George (season-high 23 points) and VJ Edgecombe (22 points).
Indiana, which was aiming to win a third straight game for the first time this season, was led by Pascal Siakam’s 20 points. Andrew Nembhard contributed 18 points and seven assists for the Pacers, while former Sixer T.J. McConnell chipped in with 15 points off the bench.
The game was tied at 102-102 with under four minutes left when George found Dominick Barlow (10 pts.) for the go-ahead layup. George had a driving layup of his own down the stretch, while Embiid knocked down a jumper shortly thereafter to help Philadelphia create some separation.

OILERS ACQUIRE G TRISTAN JARRY IN BLOCKBUSTER TRADE WITH PENGUINS
The Edmonton Oilers acquired Tristan Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins for fellow goaltender Stuart Skinner as part of a blockbuster trade on Friday morning.
Edmonton also received minor-league forward Samuel Poulin in the deal from Pittsburgh, which picked up defenseman Brett Kulak and a second-round selection in the 2029 NHL Draft.
The Oilers also made another trade Friday, acquiring defenseman Spencer Stastney from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.
Edmonton has been plagued by inconsistent goaltending during its respective runs to the Stanley Cup Final in each of the last two seasons. This season, the Oilers own the second-worst team save percentage (.873) in the NHL.
Jarry, 30, is 9-3-1 with one shutout, a 2.66 goals-against average and .909 save percentage in 14 games (13 starts) this season. He is playing in the third season of a five-year, $26.875 million contract.
Jarry is 161-100-32 with 22 shutouts, a 2.74 GAA and .909 save percentage in 307 career games (294 starts) since being selected by the Penguins in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft.
Skinner, 27, is 11-8-4 with two shutouts, a 2.83 GAA and .891 save percentage in 23 games (all starts) this season. The Edmonton native is playing in the final campaign of a three-year, $7.8 million contract and can become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
Skinner owns a 109-62-18 record with nine shutouts with a 2.74 GAA and .904 save percentage in 197 career games (191 starts) since being selected by the Oilers in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft.
Poulin, 24, has been held off the scoresheet in two games with Pittsburgh this season.
He has two assists in 15 career games with the Penguins since being selected by the club with the 21st overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft.
Kulak, 31, has two assists in 31 games this season.
The Edmonton native has 127 points (28 goals, 99 assists) in 611 career games with the Flames, Montreal Canadiens and Oilers. He was selected by Calgary in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Draft.
Stastney, 25, has recorded nine points (one goal, eight assists) in 30 games this season.
He has 18 points (three goals, 15 assists) in 81 career games with the Predators.
MAILLOUX, LUFF GET FIRST GOALS OF SEASON AS BLUES BEAT RIVAL BLACKHAWKS 3-2
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Logan Mailloux and Matt Luff each scored his first goal of the season, and the St. Louis Blues beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Friday night.
Justin Faulk also scored and Robert Thomas had two assists for the Blues, who won for the third time in five games. Joel Hofer stopped 27 shots.
Wyatt Kaiser and Andre Burakovsky scored for Chicago, and Connor Bedard had two assists. Spencer Knight finished with 23 saves as the Blackhawks lost for the third time in four games.
Mailloux opened the scoring with a wrister 3:41 into the game, and later engaged in his first NHL fight, exchanging punches with Colton Dach.
With Hofer pulled because of a delayed Chicago penalty, Mailloux received a pass from Thomas in the left circle and beat Knight on his glove side. It was the third career goal for the defenseman acquired in an offseason trade.
Chicago’s Connor Murphy also tangled with the Blues’ Dylan Holloway in the second meeting this season of the longtime rivals.
Luff, an offseason signing who was recalled from the minors last week, scored from the slot for a 2-0 lead with 8:12 remaining in the first.
Kaiser cut the deficit to 2-1 with 4:10 to go in the opening period. Bedard brought the puck into the zone and drew the attention of three defenders as he headed to the front of the net, making room for Kaiser to unload his shot.
Faulk, a defenseman, answered with his seventh goal of the season at 8:57 of the second as he pinched in and found himself unguarded against Knight as the goalie knelt to protect the near post. Faulk banked the puck in off Knight for a two-goal lead.
Burakovsky pulled the Blackhawks back within one with 5:52 left in the third, but that was as close as they got.
Knight was pulled for an extra skater with just over 2 minutes remaining, but Chicago could not get a shot on goal in the closing stretch.

GUENTHER SCORES TIEBREAKING GOAL IN 3RD PERIOD AS MAMMOTH BEAT KRAKEN 5-3 TO END THREE-GAME SKID
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Dylan Guenther scored a go-ahead power-play goal in the third period and the Utah Mammoth beat the Seattle Kraken 5-3 on Friday night to snap a three-game losing streak.
Nick Schmaltz had a goal and two assists, and Kailer Yamamoto, JJ Peterka, and Lawson Crouse also scored for the Mammoth. Kevin Stenlund had three assists and Karel Vejmelka stopped 32 shots.
Mason Marchment had two goals and Ben Meyers also scored for the Kraken in their seventh loss in eight games. Phillipp Grubauer had 26 saves.
After a scoreless first period, Marchment put Seattle on the board with a backhand shot at 3:35 of the second.
Schmaltz tied it at 8:09 with an unassisted goal. He attacked off a breakaway and chipped the puck over Grubauer’s shoulder from close range.
Yamamoto then gave Utah its first lead with 6:36 left in the middle period.
Seattle had several shots at an equalizer during a two-man advantage lasting nearly two minutes, but the Kraken came up empty.
Marchment then got his second goal of the night and fourth of the season at 7:50 of the third, slapping the puck home from long distance to tie it.
Guenther gave Utah a 3-2 lead with 7:05 remaining, successfully converting a power play.
Peterka and Crouse added empty netters over the final three minutes, and Meyers scored for Seattle with 43 seconds to go for the final margin.

COLTS FOOTBALL NEWS
COLTS RULE OUT CB SAUCE GARDNER, WR ANTHONY GOULD, T BRADEN SMITH FOR WEEK 15 GAME VS. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
The Colts on Friday ruled out cornerback Sauce Gardner (calf), wide receiver Anthony Gould (foot) and tackle Braden Smith (concussion, neck) for their Week 15 game against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field, head coach Shane Steichen said. Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner will not be activated from injured reserve this week, Steichen said.
Gardner will miss his second consecutive game with the injury he sustained early in the first quarter of the Colts’ Week 13 loss to the Houston Texans.
Smith exited the Colts’ Week 14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars after being evaluated for a concussion. Without Smith, expect fourth-round rookie Jalen Travis to make his first NFL start at right tackle on Sunday against the Seahawks.
Gould sustained a foot injury in the Colts’ Week 14 loss to the Jaguars. With Gould out and wide receiver Ashton Dulin on injured reserve, the Colts’ are down their two primary kick returners; Gould is the Colts’ main punt returner, too. Wide receiver Josh Downs returned punts when Gould was sidelined in Weeks 9 and 10.
The Colts earlier this week placed cornerback Charvarius Ward Sr. on injured reserve following his third concussion of the season, which will sideline him for at least the final four games of the regular season. On Wednesday, the Colts opened Buckner’s 21-day window to begin practicing while on injured reserve; Buckner (neck) was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday and Thursday’s practices. Buckner can be activated off injured reserve any time in the next three weeks, though he will not play Sunday against the Seahawks.
COLTS-SEAHAWKS PREVIEW: PHILIP RIVERS ISN’T HERE TO SAVE THE SEASON. BUT WILL HE PLAY IN WEEK 15?
The narrative around the 2025 Colts on Sunday night was bleak: How could this team pull out of a three-game losing skid, one which knocked them down to the AFC No. 8 seed, without its starting quarterback?
Less than 48 hours later, the narrative had completely shifted. The Colts were at the center of the NFL universe. And it was because they were going to figure out if the old guy could still sling it.
Yes, Philip Rivers is here in Indianapolis, donning a helmet and shoulder pads in practice for the first time in nearly five years. Yes, he’s 44. Yes, the year is 2025, just to double-check.
Long snapper Luke Rhodes, at 33, was the oldest player on the Colts; he no longer holds that designation because of Rivers, who’s over a decade his senior.
But through the press conference yuks, the excitement permeating the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center locker room and the trillion-watt spotlight on the Colts this week, there’s a game to play on Sunday.
And will Rivers be behind center when the Colts take the field against a 10-3 Seattle Seahawks team that boasts one of the very best defenses in the NFL?
“We’re going to work through that right now,” head coach Shane Steichen said Friday afternoon. “We literally just got off the practice field, but he had a good week of work, and we’ll have those discussions here in the next couple hours.”
Steichen said he liked what he saw from Rivers this week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – just like he saw from Rivers during the near-decade they spent together with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers (2011-2012, 2014-2019)
“He’s got great command in the huddle, he was throwing it well,” Steichen said. “So yeah, we’re excited for it. I mean, he’s fired up for the challenge. Obviously, getting back into it, getting back into the fold, feeling the pass rush. Got some good work in that, just moving around, seeing the defense – it was good.”
“… (He’s) aguy that hasn’t been out there in five years, to go and practice the way he did this week was pretty impressive to watch. So like I said, we’ll have those conversations here in the next couple hours and we’ll make a decision.”
Procedurally, the Colts will either need to elevate Rivers to their active roster from the practice squad, or sign Rivers to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, for him to play Sunday. If that move happens, it’ll be on Saturday.
But if it does happens, Rivers wants one thing to be clear: He didn’t sign up for this to be a savior for a team that’s 8-5 and has lost three games in a row.
“I’m not here to stinking save the year or be a hero by any means,” Rivers said. “We’ve got to stinking run the crap out of the football and play defense and do all those things. So, if that comes to be and I’m the one that’s out there, that’s going to – I’m not here to try to save the day.”
Steichen shares the same expectation for Rivers. If he plays, he’ll slide in as a part of a Colts’ offense which, collectively, needs to turn things around.
“He’s not here to save the season,” Steichen said. “He’s here to be a great leader, a great teammate, go out there, operate the offense, get us in and out of the right plays. And that’s the process, and that’s the way he’s taken it and flowing with it one day at a time, and going through his process.”
But Rivers, this week, has been working with the hope of being ready to play on Sunday.
“If that’s where it goes, I’ll be ready to go,” Rivers said Wednesday. “I mean, I’m preparing like that. I’m going to prepare and push for that – I don’t mean push (Steichen) for that, I mean push myself to get there. And if that’s what we feel, they feel, we collectively feel is the best decision, then we’ll go.”
If Rivers does play on Sunday, though, he’ll do so against a surging Seahawks team that’s vying for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
Mike McDonald’s Seahawks have been a defensive juggernaut in 2025. They’re second in points per game (17.4) and yards per play (4.5). They’re extremely difficult to throw the ball against, with the NFL’s lowest yards per play allowed on passes (5.4); they’re third in passer rating allowed (77.3), second in interceptions (15) and fourth in sacks (41). And if you want to run the ball, Seattle is second in yards allowed per rush (3.8); they’ve allowed only 22 rushes of 10 or more yards this year, second only to the Denver Broncos.
All that has led to opponents scoring on just 27.6 percent of their possessions, second-lowest in the NFL. And they haven’t allowed a touchdown since Week 12.
But the Seahawks are not your classic stifling-defense-middling-offense group. They’ve blown out several opponents this season (five of their 10 wins have been by 22 or more points), with wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba leading the NFL with 1,428 yards over 13 games, good for an average of 109.8 yards per game. Veteran Cooper Kupp and rookie Tory Horton have had plenty of moments as secondary receivers opposite Smith-Njigba, and tight end A.J. Barner has been a reliable target as well.
Quarterback Sam Darnold leads the NFL in averaging 8.9 yards per pass attempt; he’s completing 68.1 percent of his passes with 22 touchdowns and a passer rating of 103.8. Running backs Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet have combined for 12 touchdowns, too.
Seattle has scored on 47.5 percent of their offensive possessions (third in NFL) and is second in points per game (29.8).
“They’ve got some firepower over there,” defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo said. “(Smith-Njigba’s) a great player. They move him around a ton. So, they’ve done a great job setting things up over there and (offensive coordinator) Klint Kubiak does a heck of a job overall with their offense. But he’s a special player and they’ve done a great job offensively all year.”
So that’s the backdrop against which Rivers may make his return. We’ll find out this weekend if he actually will.
“Can’t back down from those kind of challenges,” Rivers said.
Rivers already hasn’t backed down from the first challenge, which was weighing all the doubt that comes from five years away from the NFL and saying “dadgummit, let’s freaking go.” The next challenge is actually going out and playing again.
And we’ll find out Sunday what this all looks like.

INDIANA PACERS BASKETBALL NEWS
GAME REWIND: PACERS 105, 76ERS 115
The Indiana Pacers rolled into Xfinity Mobile Arena on Friday night prepared to tack a third game onto their two-game winning streak. The Philadelphia 76ers sought to protect home court and bounce back from a home loss to the Lakers on Sunday. The 76ers had five days to ruminate on that loss while Indiana had four days to rest in preparation for Friday’s contest. The 76ers led by five points at halftime, and extended that lead by the conclusion of regulation to defeat the Pacers, 115-105.
Ethan Thompson was the engine for Indiana in the opening minutes as he recorded seven points on 75 percent shooting, including the Pacers’ initial five points. T.J. McConnell was another boost off the Pacers’ bench as he and Thompson combined to score 15 of Indiana’s 31 points in the first period.
Philadelphia rookie VJ Edgecombe found a rhythm early to counter Indiana’s backcourt – he notched 14 points in the first quarter, helping the 76ers to a 34-31 lead after the opening frame. The 76ers leaned heavily on Edgecombe in the absence of Tyrese Maxey, who was out with an illness.
Thompson continued his stretch of productive play through the second quarter as he became the first Pacer to hit double digits, knocking down a 3-pointer to put Indiana up three points early in the frame.
The 76ers were strong throughout the second quarter. Edgecombe’s aggression led Philadelphia to a 14-6 run early in the period, and the 76ers led by as many as five points in the quarter.
Thompson and McConnell kept the Pacers alive through the first half of play – Thompson recorded 10 points and three assists, while McConnell led Indiana with 13 points. Edgecombe finished the first half with 18 points for Philadelphia, though Joel Embiid came to life in the second quarter, and finished the opening half with 19 points.
Embiid kept that train rolling through the third quarter and had a game-high 33 points heading into the fourth.
But as Embiid began to heat up, so did the Pacers. Andrew Nembhard found a groove as he knocked down four of his seven shots en route to an 11-point third period. He entered the fourth quarter as Indiana’s leading scorer with 18 total points.
Indiana kept Edgecombe under control in the third frame – he was scoreless until the final minute of the period when he knocked down two free throws.
The Blue and Gold showed a determined edge in the third period. Indiana scored 32 points in the quarter, and tied the game at 90 points heading into the fourth.
The Pacers maintained that pace as they went up by five points early in the fourth quarter.
The 76ers stormed back, and the game was knotted again at 100 points with under five minutes remaining. Thompson rose for a corner 3-pointer, but was fouled and earned a trip to the free throw line, where he made two of his three shots to give Indiana a 102-100 lead.
A furious 14-2 run by Philadelphia had the Sixers ahead by six points with just over two minutes left on the game clock. Jay Huff’s pump fake had his defender in the air as he took a dribble, lined up his shot, and drilled a 3-pointer.
Philadelphia outlasted the Pacers late push to defeat Indiana, 1115-105.
Embiid finished with a game-high 39 points and nine rebounds. Edgecombe scored just four points in the second half, and finished with 22. Siakam led the Pacers with 20 points, and Nembhard followed with 18 points, five rebounds, and seven assists.
The Pacers scored just 15 points in the final quarter.
Indiana shot just 39 percent from the field to Philadelphia’s 44 percent, and committed just seven turnovers to the 76ers 13. It wasn’t enough to overcome Embiid’s massive scoring output, and the Pacers fell to the Sixers on the road.
Inside the Numbers
Indiana scored just 15 points in the fourth quarter to Philadelphia’s 25.
The Pacers recorded another sub-40 percent shooting night (39.6 percent) – their fifth such game of the year.
Indiana committed just seven turnovers leading to five Philadelphia points. The 76ers committed 13 turnovers leading to 15 Pacers points.
Indiana’s bench outscored Philadelphia’s bench 35-11.
The Pacers shot 19 free throws to the 76ers’ 43.
You Can Quote Me On That
“Even when we’re at full strength, we have to be a sum of its parts group. We got a lot of really good contributions. You know, T.J. McConnell was great. Matthews did a lot of good things off the bench.” – coach Rick Carlisle on bench production
“The guys have come together better. You know, we’re consistently fighting at a very good level, and NBA games are hard, so tonight is great experience. We’ve got to take it and make corrections that are necessary and build on it.” – Carlisle on Indiana’s fight and togetherness
Stat of the Night
Andrew Nembhard recorded 18 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and went 5-for-5 from the free throw line. His five attempts from the stripe accounted for 26 percent of Indiana’s total free throw attempts.
Noteworthy
Indiana is 89-112 against the 76ers all-time.
The Pacers will play Philadelphia three more times this season – twice at home and once more on the road.
Ben Sheppard missed his third straight contest with a calf strain.
Coach Rick Carlisle is just one win shy of becoming the 11th coach all-time to record 1,000 career wins.

The Pacers return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse to host CJ McCollum and the Washington Wizards on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3:00 PM ET.
GAME PREVIEW: PACERS VS WIZARDS
After having a two-game win streak snapped on Friday night in Philadelphia, the Pacers (6-19) will look to bounce back on Sunday afternoon when they welcome the Washington Wizards (3-20) to Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Indiana led 102-100 with under 4:30 to play in Philly, but the 76ers outscored the Pacers 15-2 the rest of the way en route to a 115-105 victory. Pascal Siakam scored 20 points in the loss, Andrew Nembhard added 18 points and seven assists, while T.J. McConnell was excellent off the bench with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting and five assists in 17 minutes.
But the Blue & Gold struggled to slow down Sixers center Joel Embiid. The former MVP scored a season-high 39 points on Friday, going 12-for-23 from the field and 13-for-18 from the free throw line.
The loss does mean that Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle has a chance to make history at home on Sunday. Carlisle has 999 career wins and will become just the 11th coach in NBA history to amass 1,000 career victories with his next win.
The other coaches in the 1,000 win club include Gregg Popovich, Don Nelson, Lenny Wilkens, Jerry Sloan, Pat Riley, George Karl, Doc Rivers, Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, and Rick Adelman. All except Rivers (who is still active and currently coaching Milwaukee) are in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
It’s been a rough season for the Wizards, who have only won three times in their first 23 games and are currently without their leading scorer, second-year center Alex Sarr, as well as three other key members of their rotation.
But the shorthanded Wizards very nearly knocked off Cleveland on Friday night in Washington. The Wizards led by as many as 17 points and didn’t give up the lead until the final minute, with the Cavs needing 48 points from All-NBA guard Donovan Mitchell to survive, 130-126.
CJ McCollum and Bub Carrington each scored 27 points and combined to make eight 3-pointers on Friday, with Carrington also dishing out eight assists. Marvin Bagley III — starting at center for Sarr — recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Last Meeting
Nov. 28, 2025: The Pacers tipped off a four-game homestand by rolling to a 119-86 victory over the Washington Wizards at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Six players scored in double figures for Indiana, with All-Star forward Pascal Siakam leading the way with an efficient 24-point, 11-rebound double-double. Siakam went 11-for-20 from the field and logged just 26 minutes in the runaway victory.
“He decided that we were not going to lose this game tonight,” Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said of Siakam. “He was ultra-aggressive, but within our system…He was tremendous. I thought as good as he was on offense, he was equally good and maybe better defensively and rebounding the ball.”
Bennedict Mathurin added 20 points and four assists, going 8-for-16 from the field and 3-for-5 from 3-point range. T.J. McConnell chipped in 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting and eight assists in just 19 minutes off the bench.
Alex Sarr led Washington with 24 points and eight rebounds. CJ McCollum, who scored 46 points and made 10 3-pointers as the Wizards snapped a 14-game losing streak three nights earlier against Atlanta, scored 11 and went 1-for-5 from beyond the arc against Indiana.
Noteworthy
Pacers rookie guard Kam Jones was active for the first time this season on Friday but did not play after missing the first 24 games of the season with a lower back stress reaction. Two-way guard Quenton Jackson was also active but did not see action in Philadelphia. Jackson has not played in an NBA game since Nov. 3 due to a right hamstring strain.
The Pacers have won their last six overall games against Washington and six straight games against the Wizards at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Pacers’ last loss to the Wizards was in Washington on Dec. 15, 2023. Their last home loss to the Wizards was on Oct. 19, 2022.

At 12:17, Nikita Sedov took Bloomington’s first penalty of the game for cross checking. The Bison were able to kill off the penalty.
Indy’s Kevin Lombardi put the Fuel on the board with a goal at 16:04. Tyson Feist and Harrison Israels had the assists on that goal to make it 3-1.
The next penalty in the game was a hooking minor assessed to Jacob Leguerrier at 18:35 that would carry over into the second period as the Bison did not score before time expired.
At the end of the first frame, Bloomington was outshooting Indy 13-10.
2ND PERIOD
The Fuel killed off the penalty to Leguerrier before Lombardi scored his second goal of the night to make it 3-2. He scored at 5:34 with the help of Feist and Israels yet again.
At 9:41, Jordan Martin and Bloomington’s Parker Gavlas were each given five minutes for fighting after dropping the gloves in front of the Bison goaltender.
About a minute later, Zakary Karpa extended the Bison’s lead to 4-2.
The Fuel earned another power play chance at 13:45 when Brett Budgell headed to the penalty box for hooking. Bloomington was able to kill it off.
At 18:06, Jesse Tucker and Cullen Ferguson exchanged roughing penalties to force 4-on-4 play that would last into the third period.
Despite being down 4-2, Indy massively outshot Bloomington in the second period. Through two frames, the Fuel outshot the Bison 29-20.
3RD PERIOD
Just two minutes into the third period, Bison goaltender Callum Tung left the game after a play left him in discomfort. Hugo Ollas replaced him in net.
At 4:31, Jadon Joseph was called for hooking while Bloomington’s Budgell was called for unsportsmanlike conduct. This forced more 4-on-4 hockey until Lombardi joined Joseph in the box 53 seconds later for a slashing call.
Matsushima scored his second goal of the game on the power play at 6:25 to make it 5-2 after Tung returned to net for the Bison.
Israels scored at 9:06 to make it 5-3. With the assists going to Lombardi and Feist, those three officially connected for three points each on the night.
Indy kept the pressure on but Tung stood strong in net. With just under three minutes to go in the third period, the Fuel pulled Flores from net in favor of the extra skater but Lou-Félix Denis scored on the empty net at 17:47 to make it 6-3.
That is how the game would end, but not before Mikael Robidoux and Marchesan each earned two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct with less than thirty seconds to go in the game after dropping the gloves but not fully engaging in a fight.
With a final score of 6-3, the Fuel outshot Bloomington 38-27 and will return to Indy to face the Cincinnati Cyclones tomorrow night.

INDIANA FOOTBALL NEWS
FERNANDO MENDOZA LOOKING TO ADD A HISTORIC HEISMAN TROPHY WIN FOR INDIANA TO HIS COLLEGE RIDE
The first time Fernando Mendoza put his hands on a Heisman Trophy, he did it as a whim on a recruiting trip to Yale.
On Saturday, he’ll be on stage for the real deal.
Mendoza enters this weekend having won the Associated Press Player of the Year Award and as the the favorite to win college football’s most prestigious individual award. He would be the first winner from Indiana University and the third with Hispanic roots — titles not lost on the once lightly recruited Miami native who started contemplating this storybook ending a few months ago.
“At the beginning of the year, I saw the list of the top 10 Heisman contenders and evidently (my name) wasn’t there,” he said. “I was like, ‘Wow, I want to make a goal for myself.’ I prayed about, like, if I could make it to the ceremony, how cool that would be. Now that it’s come to fruition, I’m able to share that moment with people who appreciate it. It’s such a cool moment.”
For Mendoza, his first and likely only season in Bloomington has been filled with memories.
As fans watched him throw winning touchdown passes late in games against Iowa, Oregon and Penn State what he did behind the scenes — forcing bonds with new teammates, embracing family time and savoring all those special celebrations — helped deliver program-changing victories like Saturday’s 13-10 victory over No. 1 Ohio State that gave Indiana its first Big Ten title since 1967, a 13-0 mark and the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff.
Along the way, Mendoza cherished his time studying film with his younger brother, Alberto, meeting with coaches and hearing students serenade him with chants of “HeisMendoza.”
The funny thing is Fernando Mendoza never sought the spotlight. He just wanted to win.
“He’s just the ultimate professional and a wonderful teammate,” starting center Pat Coogan said. “He prepares like no one I’ve ever seen. He works his butt off like no one I’ve ever seen. He’s just an awesome locker room guy on top of that.”
Head of the class
When Mendoza entered the transfer portal last winter, he could have gone essentially anywhere. He chose Indiana because he knew coach Curt Cignetti would push him hard to improve.
Mendoza knew of Cignetti’s reputation for developing quarterbacks.
At North Carolina State, Cignetti worked with Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist Philip Rivers and helped recruit Super Bowl champ Russell Wilson. Then as Cignetti guided the most successful transition from the Football Championship Subdivision to the Football Bowl Subdivision he helped three quarterbacks win conference player of the year awards in five seasons.
Last year, his first at Indiana, Cignetti brought in 2023 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year Kurtis Rourke, who led the Hoosiers to a school record 11 victories and their first playoff bid while earning second-team all-Big Ten honors. Rourke finished ninth in the Heisman voting.
When Cignetti did his homework on Mendoza, he saw something different from the late-bloomer.
“Being the film junkie I am, and making all the different cutups, occasionally I’d see plays from Fernando at Cal,” Cignetti said. “When he went in the portal, obviously we watched a lot of game tape on him and just really liked his stuff — the quick release, the arm, the mobility. He’s a great person. He really prepares. He’s really smart, and he’s developed quite a bit since he’s been here.”
Mendoza’s mobility might not have been as evident in 2024 when he was sacked 41 times.
But Cignetti embraced taking a two-year starter from a Power Four school with a rich tradition of producing quarterbacks. He was impressed by Mendoza’s crafty work ethic, selfless leadership style and his inspirational journey from grandson of Cuban immigrants to one of America’s best college quarterbacks all while watching his mother battle multiple sclerosis.
The adversity has helped Mendoza maintain a positive approach with the kind of real-life perspective rarely found in a 22-year-old with the spotlight shining so brightly on him.
“I’ve been lucky enough to have such a great team that I’ve always been in a good position to win games,” Mendoza said. “That’s what’s helped elevate me to the position I’ll be in Saturday night.”
Heismendoza
It didn’t take Mendoza long to win the hearts of Hoosiers fans, who have waited decades to cheer a legitimate Heisman contender.
The last time was 2001 when quarterback Antwaan Randle El finished sixth in the voting. The best finish by an Indiana player was 1989 when running back Anthony Thompson finished second.
But Mendoza didn’t impress immediately. His breakout game came in Week 4, a rout over then-No. 8 Illinois when he threw five TD passes for the second straight week. Suddenly, to his surprise, friends began touting him as a Heisman contender.
One week later, at Iowa, he beat a blitz to find Elijah Sarratt for a 49-yard touchdown with 88 seconds to go. But the play that showed his teammates what Mendoza was all about came when he took a big hit on a run out of bounds that ignited a sideline shoving match.
“I told him we had his back. I said ‘Go out there and just sling it, we have all the confidence in the world in you,’” linebacker Aiden Fisher said. “That dude’s got some confidence, too. He’s got some swagger. He looked at me and said, ‘I got us. don’t even worry about it.’”
He showed his resilience again at No. 3 Oregon with a tiebreaking 8-yard TD pass to Sarratt after throwing the Pick-6 that tied the score at 20. He did it again in the final minute at Penn State and again in the third quarter against the Buckeyes, putting him here on the cusp of hoisting his own Heisman Trophy.
“The (other finalists) are fantastic players. I think everybody, when you’re a finalist, you’ve got to prepare a speech because anything could happen,” Mendoza said before discussing the Heisman being a goal. “I thought of it, but it was a little bit more of a dream and a long-range goal or a goal you reach a little farther than you think you could reach.”
It could be right in his hands Saturday night.
REPORTS: INDIANA DC BRYANT HAINES LANDS LUCRATIVE DEAL
Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines was rewarded for overseeing the country’s No. 2 scoring defense, landing one of the biggest contracts among assistant coaches, multiple media outlets reported on Friday.
Haines, 40, whose defense ranked sixth in the country in yards allowed this season, reportedly agreed to a new-three deal, his second contract since he and head coach Curt Cignetti joined the Hoosiers’ staff from James Madison in 2024.
A 2024 finalist for the Broyles Award given to the country’s top assistant, Haines has also coached alongside Cignetti — who received a new contract this fall and is one of the nation’s top-paid head coaches — at Elon and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Indiana (13-0), the Big Ten champion and No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff, awaits the winner of next Friday’s Oklahoma-Alabama semifinal in a quarterfinal matchup on New Year’s Day at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles.

INDIANA VOLLEYBALL NEWS
HISTORIC SEASON COMES TO CLOSE
AUSTIN, Texas. – The greatest season in program history came to an end on Friday (Dec. 12) afternoon at Gregory Gymnasium in Austin. Top-seeded Texas earned a tight sweep of the fourth-seeded Indiana volleyball team (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) to advance to the regional finals on Sunday. IU’s season comes to a close with a single-season program record 25 wins (in the NCAA era).
In one of the premier volleyball arenas in the country, the Hoosiers went blow-for-blow with the four-time national champions. IU lost by just a combined 11 points and reached the red zone (20+) in all three sets. Head coach Steve Aird’s group recorded more kills (48-45) but couldn’t find a defensive answer for Texas’ All-American outside hitter Torrey Stafford.
Senior outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles recorded 13 kills in her final game with the Hoosiers. It was the 74th time in her college tenure that she recorded a match with at least 10 kills. IU found great success in the middle with seven kills (.778) from senior middle blocker Madi Sell and eight kills (.700) from freshman middle blocker Victoria Gray.
Contributions from freshmen were felt from every part of the court. Freshman setter Teodora Krickovic dished out 38 assists while freshman outside hitter Jaidyn Jager contributed eight kills. Freshman outside hitter Charlotte Vinson had an ace and picked up her first career kill for the Hoosiers. Six of IU’s 10 players on the court were true freshmen on Friday.
In totality, IU’s 2025 team will go down as the greatest in program history. The Hoosiers broke single-season program records in the NCAA era for wins (25), regular season wins (23), Big Ten wins (14), road wins (9), ranked road wins (3). IU advanced to its second NCAA regional semifinal in school history.
How it Happened
• The defensive effort made the difference for Texas on Friday afternoon. The Longhorns racked up 10 more blocks than the Hoosiers (12.0-2.0). IU dug 38 balls but struggled to find points in transition. Texas had an answer for every IU swing in the match.
• Texas’ All-American outside hitter Torrey Stafford was virtually unstoppable on Friday. She picked up 19 kills on zero errors for a .679 hitting percentage. She dug eight balls and had a hand in four blocks as well. IU had more kills (48-46) but had 23 attacking errors.
Top Hoosier Performers
#3 Alonso-Corcelles, Candela
13 kills, 10 digs
#10 Krickovic, Teodora
38 assists, 7 digs, 2 kills
#23 Gray, Victoria
8 kills, .700 hitting percentage
Notes to Know
• Senior outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles played her final career game for the Hoosiers. She provided 13 kills in the match, the 74th time that she’s had double-digit kills in a contest. She ends her career eighth in program history in kills (1,386). She’s the first IU player since Jordan Haverly (2009, 2010) with consecutive seasons of 400+ kills.
• The Hoosiers ended the 2025 season hitting .281 as a team. That is a new single-season program record, obliterating the previous IU standard (.246) from 1989. All three of IU’s pin hitters and all three middle blockers that played regular time finished with a hitting efficiency of .240 or better on the year.
• For players with at least 300 attempts in a season, freshman middle blocker Victoria Gray finished the season hitting .378 with 152 kills. That mark puts her second in a single season in program history while smashing the previous single-season freshman hitting percentage record.
• Senior opposite hitter Avry Tatum finished her IU career with a collective hitting percentage of .273 with 936 kills on more than 2,000 swings. Among all pin hitters in program history, no IU player hit at a better efficiency (min. 1,000 attempts) than Tatum did in her three seasons in Bloomington.

The Boilers will be looking for their first-ever appearance to the National Semifinals (final four).
The team reaches 28 wins – marking the second-most victories ever under HC Shondell (record: 29 in 2011). It will be the second-most wins for Purdue in 39 years (last: 34 in 1985).
THE WIN VS. SMU MEANT…
Purdue has set a program record for wins vs. ranked opponents in a single season (10) and the second top-10 win of the year (last: also vs. SMU in non-con).
With the win, Dave Shondell tied Purdue men’s basketball legend Gene Keady as the winningest head coach in Purdue Athletics history (512 wins).
The 100th ranked win for an opponent during Dave Shondell’s tenure at Purdue.
Kenna Wollard has jumped into Purdue’s single-season top-10 list with her NCAA tournament play, owning 562 kills heading into the Regional Finals, ranking seventh in Purdue history – a feat that’s only been accomplished two other times this century. With four more kills, she’ll take sixth-place, with five more kills, she’ll take fifth, and with six more kills, she’ll jump to fourth in Purdue single-season history.
PURDUE IN THE 2025 NCAA TOURNAMENT
Over the last three matches, Purdue is averaging a .349 attack % while holding opponents to .259%.
Kenna Wollard is averaging 4.91 kills per set on a .448 clip and 2.91 digs per set.
Taylor Anderosn is averaging 12.09 assists per set and has led the team to eight sets (11 total sets have been played) hitting at least .330% and four over .400%.
In the back row, Ryan McAleer is averaging 4.91 digs per set and came two digs shy vs. SMU to tie the Purdue in an NCAA tournament match record for digs (McAleer had 23, record is 25 by Maddie Schermerhorn in 2023).
Purdue’s serve and pass has been stellar, out-acing opponents 21-7 in the tournament.
DEFYING EXPECTATIONS
From zero preseason All-Big Ten honorees to matching the 1987 program record of five All-Big Ten selections, this Purdue squad has out-performed all expectations.
Of the 33 teams recognized in the AVCA poll (ranked or receiving votes), Purdue is joined by Indiana as the only teams to not have a single player recognized in its preseason all-conference teams.
Picked to finish #7 in the league in the preseason poll, Purdue finished third in the Big Ten, the second-best finish during the Shondell Era.
The team started Big Ten play with a 12-2 Big Ten record– the best start under Dave Shondell and the overall best since the ’80s.
After returning just one starter, Purdue’s offense is the second-most efficient team in its 50+ year history, averaging a .291 attack % (record: 2017 w/ .301).
The Boilermakers returned just 7.5% of its offense from a year ago (Wollard: 150 kills and Taylor Anderson: 74 kills).
The squad posted its best non-con record since 2022 with a 9-1 record.
The team’s 24 wins are the third-most ever recorded during the regular season.
The 10 wins vs. ranked opponents set a program record.
SPARK OFF THE BENCH: BIANKA LULIC
Middle Bianka Lulic was the spark for Purdue vs. SMU in the Regional Semifinals, coming off the bench in Set 3 and immediately making an impact. Tied 17-17, she entered the match and went on to post three block assists in the next five Purdue points, helping swing momentum to Purdue’s side as the Boilers went on to win the set, 25-22.
Lulic was the team’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient.

NOTRE DAME MEN’S BASKETBALL NEWS
EVANSVILLE | IN-STATE BATTLE SLATED FOR SATURDAY AFTERNOON
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-3) are looking to extend their three-game winning streak and remain undefeated at home as the Irish have posted a 6-0 record inside of Purcell so far this season.
The Evansville Aces (4-6) come to South Bend for the sixth time in program history on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. ET on ACCN.
Notre Dame leads the overall series 6-4 as the Irish are perfect 5-0 at home against the Aces. The last two match ups have been played in Purcell Pavilion, but the last time the two programs have faced each other was in 2012, where the Irish won 58-49. Before that, the last matchup was 20 years prior in 1992 where the Irish won 76-70 at home.
WEDNESDAY’S WIN
The (RV) Notre Dame men’s basketball team (8-3) has won three-straight games as they defeated the Idaho Vandals (6-4) in an 80-65 battle inside of Purcell Pavilion on Wednesday night.
The Fighting Irish shot a blistering 61.3 percent in the second half, where they outscored Idaho 47-32. Cole Certa, Jalen Haralson and Braeden Shrewsberry all recorded double-digit points in the second half alone.
Haralson led the offensive charge with second 20-point performance in a row, followed by Towt with 19, Certa with 15, and Shrewsberry with 14.
Eleven games into the season and the Irish sit at 8-3 and look to make it four wins in a row when they host Evansville on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. ET on ACCN.
The Fighting Irish will play three consecutive games inside Purcell Pavilion before departing for the Christmas break and gearing up for ACC play.
HEADBAND TOWT
Carson Towt continues to be rebounding force for the Irish and he did it again on Wednesday night in the win over Idaho – and he did in fashion. Sporting the headband for the first time this season, Towt recorded his third double-double of the season.
He finished with an impressive season-high 19 points on 9-12 shooting while also grabbing 15 rebounds. Towt is now 15-18 from the floor over the past two games.
MARK ZACKERY IV ADDED TO MBB ROSTER
Glenn & Stacey Murphy Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry announced the roster addition of Mark Zackery IV on Thursday afternoon.
Zackery IV is fresh off his freshman football season at Notre Dame, but is no stranger to the game of basketball. The former Indiana Class 4A state champion and Indiana All-Star will provide immediate depth to the point guard position.
“I think that Mark will be a great addition to our program,” Shrewsberry stated. “I have seen him play many times throughout his high school career. Whether competing with Team Teague, Indiana Elite, or Ben Davis High School, he always does things that help lead to winning. He will be an asset for us with his ball handling, playmaking, and defensive abilities. More importantly, he is a great young man that will add more value to our locker room and culture.”
WHAT A WEEK
A home win and SEC Challenge victory over Mizzou … then a Quad 1 win at TCU in a hostile environment, in overtime no less … with two stellar back-to-back wins, the Irish jumped from 86 in the NET to 69 and that’s not all.
They received votes in the A.P. poll for the first time in the Coach Shrews Era. They appeared at No. 25 in Andy Katz’s Power37 and No. 41 in Jon Rothstein’s 45.
In both games, they defied a stigma about finishing out close games. A Certa three from deep to come up clutch or a Haralson fadeaway to send it to OT. They stayed together and competed; they believed. As Coach Shrewsberry stated, it was a culmination of all their games played, specifically the three losses this year.
In fact, not only did they close, but they battled back. The Irish were down 12 to Missouri (7 at the half) and 11 to TCU (9 at the half). The last time Notre Dame came back to win after being down 9+ at halftime was a 13-point deficit to Virginia Tech in the ACC Tourney on March 7, 2018.
“Our guys have a lot of belief,” Coach Shrewsberry said. “In order to keep that belief, something good has to happen for them. They earned the right for something good to happen to them. Our guys earned it by doing things the right way. We needed to win a close game. We needed to go through these tough moments and come out on the right side.”
It was done by playing team basketball – making the extra pass and hitting clutch shots.
Notre Dame produced 16 assists on 25 made field goals against Mizzou. Then recorded 27 assists on 33 made field goals at TCU. The latter marked the most assists in a game since at Syracuse on Jan. 4, 2020.
That’s 43 assists on 58 made field goals over the two games. The Irish collectively shot 50.9 percent from the floor and converted 23 three-pointers.
NEXT MAN UP
The Fighting Irish will be without their floor general, Markus Burton, for the forseeable future. On Wednesday, Dec. 10, he had surgery performed on his left ankle, an injury he incurred at TCU.
Burton was averaging a team best 18.5 points per game and was coming off one of his most complete games of his career after dropping his first career double-double with 18 points and 10 assists vs. Missouri. He had six points and five assists in 10 minutes at TCU.Burton had a phenomenal start of the season, becoming just 1-of-3 Notre Dame plaeyrs over the past 30 years to total 180+ points, 30+ assists and 15+ steals over the first 10 games, joining Jerian Grant (2013-14, 2014-15) & Chris Thomas (2002-03).
HARALSON IN THE CLUTCH
Adding on to the Next Man Up mantra was guard Jalen Haralson at TCU. Down two with three seconds remaining, Haralson hit a step-back fadeaway jumper as the freshman tied it up 76-all to take it into overtime.
Haralson finished the night shooting 8-12 from the floor to record a career best 20 points, push a career high 9 assists.
Other ND greats over the last three decades to match Jalen’s stat line of 20 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists and 1 block: Jerian Grant in 2015 / Chris Thomas x3 (twice in
2002 and once in 2005).
“The thing that I told Jalen, right before we went out after halftime, I said, ‘You’ve got to be the best player on the floor with no doubt of who that is,’” Coach Shrewsberry said. “I thought he did that in the second half.”
CERTA-FIED
Speaking of great weeks, ladies and gentlemen, Cole Certa. The sophomore sharpshooter flashed it in the season opener when he dropped 22 points on a career best 6-9 night from three-point range. He flashed it last season in the win over Stanford when he drained a corner three with 18 seconds left for the 56-54 win.
Then the Illinois native delivered in a major way in the win over Missouri, recording the game-winning three with 17 seconds left. In fact, Certa converted three triples in the final 4:35 of the game, ultimately finishing with 14 points.
Next, Certa went NBA Jam fire mode in the second half at TCU, where he drained four triples in a row. He ultimately converted five in the half and six in the game to finish with 20 points. It marked the second game this season in which Certa came off the bench and drained 5+ threes.
Most recently, Certa shot an impressive 75% from deep, knocking down 3-of-4 from behind the arc in the win over Idaho.
For Notre Dame – most games off the bench w/ 5+ three pointers made since 1996-97 (Single Seasons Only):
2025-26 Cole Certa 2
2016-17 Matt Ryan 2
2003-04 Chris Quinn 2
PROTECT PURCELL
The Fighting Irish have done just that and have protected Purcell with a 6-0 start. The Irish are averaging 10 more points per game at home, where they are shooting a hot 50.9 percent from the field. They are also averaging 10.7 made threes per game at home.
Individually speaking, four Irish are averaging double figures inside Purcell: Markus Burton (20.2), Jalen Haralson (14.0), Braeden Shrewsberry (11.8), Cole Certa (11.5).
The Irish are looking for a 7-0 start at home for the first time since the 2022-23 season. If they closed out the non-con perfect at home, that would mark the first time since 2021-22.
WHO’S HOT
Jalen Haralson, who gives this Notre Dame offense a new look and feel. He’s another ball handler who can attack the paint, or post up or get to the front of the rim. He also provides length on the defensive end.
He’s been Mr. Dependable – nine straight games in double figures (includes Kansas, Houston, Missouri, TCU) – averaging 15.7
points in that span on 54.6% shooting.
More specifically, last week in the wins over Mizzou and TCU, Haralson averaged 16.5 points on 68.4% shooting, plus 4.5 rpg & 5.5 apg.
He’s getting to the rim at will, where he converts a whopping 75.0 percent – that’s 12.4 percent above the D1 average.
However, the hottest shooter from last week award goes to Cole Certa. The sophomore averaged a team best 17.0 points on a blazing 10-19 (.526) from three.
He’s currently 40.6 percent from three on the season. His sweet spot has been the corner three, where he’s 10-22 (.455). In addition, he’s averaging 2.4 made threes per game.
Lastly, Carson Towt is coming off a big performance in the win over Idaho, posting his third double-double of a season-high 19 points and 15 rebounds.
In the win over TCU in the game prior, the graduate poured in 13 points on a perfect 6-6 from the floor. Towt also recorded nine boards & four assists.
REBOUNDING TRANSLATES
Coach on Towt: “He’s energy personified. There have been a ton of transfers that transferred up and there scoring output doesn’t necessarily follow. Rebounding translates at every level. It’s heart and it’s effort. That’s what he does. Carson is just max effort, man. He just plays really hard. His effort on the glass on both ends, his physicality. He’s a big brother to these dudes. He’s feeding their belief because of the energy and the confidence that he gives them.”
Last year’s NCAA rebounding leader Carson Towt has been a high-level impact transfer from Northern Arizona. To start, he tied his career-high 19 rebounds in the season opener, which also set a new record for an Irish debut. He produced two double-doubles in the first five games. He then became the first Irish player in the conference era (1995-present) to start the season with six straight games with double-digit rebounds.
Towt’s current rebounding rankings:
10.5 rpg ranks 13th nationally, 2nd in the ACC
3.45 offensive rpg – 2nd in the ACC
7.1 defensive rpg – 13th nationally, 2nd in the ACC
1,194 career rebounds – leads all active players
NOTRE NOTABLES
The Irish are 14 wins away from 2,000 all-time. They would become the eighth program to achieve this feat.
Certa is a perfect 20-20 from the FT line. In terms of D1 players who remain perfect from the stripe, Certa has converted the fifth most.
For the first time since the 2016-17 season, the Fighting Irish opened the season with three straight 20+ point victories.
The Irish are ranked 36th nationally in mid-range field goal percentage, making about 43.7% of their attempts from those locations vs. Average Oppnent.
Notre Dame does a fantastic job to prevent opposing teams from capitalizing on chances from offensive rebounds. The squad allows the Average Opponent to convert only 3.3% of all second-chance opportunities (ranked eighth in the NCAA), and with a rating of 10.27, they’re 13th in potential points allowed off of the offensive glass as well.
Kenpom Rating: Offense 114.6 (72nd) & Defense 101.0 (64th).
Overall KenPom sits at 60.
Current NET rating of 67.

The Mastodons are 2-0 this season when they hit 10 or more 3-pointers this season. Under Maria Marchesano’s leadership, the ‘Dons have had 51 such games with a 40-11 record in those games.
20-20-20 Vision
Alana Nelson scored 20+ points in three games in a row (IU Indy, Wright State and Milwaukee). She joins an elite group of Mastodons to do so in the Division I era.

Ashley Johnson – 2006-07
Stephanie Rosado – 2011-12
Amanda Hyde (five times) – 2012-13, 2013-14
Lauren Ross – 2024-25
A Week of Alana
Alana Nelson was selected as the Horizon League Player of the Week on December 8. After the first week of league play, Nelson averaged 24.5 points per game, which led the league by 7.0 points per game. She had 23 points at IU Indy, then followed it up with 26 against Wright State.
Career Points Tracker
Let’s take a look at the career scoring numbers for the three former NAIA All-Americans on the roster regardless of level.
Alana Nelson – 2,453 (482 at Northwood, 1,787 at Spring Arbor, 184 at PFW)
Jordan Reid – 1,778 (1,395 at Indiana Wesleyan, 383 at PFW)
Lauren Lee – 1,659 (1,630 at Campbellsville, 29 at PFW)
All Signs Point to Nelson
Of all players currently at the Division I level, Alana Nelson has the most career points when counting all levels of play. She owns 2,453 points in her six years of college basketball at Northwood (2), Spring Arbor (3) and Purdue Fort Wayne (1).
3-Point Threat
Rylee Bess is off to the best start by a freshman in terms of 3-point shooting since Jordan Zuppe in 2007-08. Zuppe shot 43.3 percent on 74 makes in her freshman season. Bess is at 43.5 percent with 20 makes.
They’re Playing a Lot, Huh?
Alana Nelson (35.2) and Jordan Reid (33.4) lead the Horizon League in minutes played per game.
Look at Lee!
Through three Horizon League games, Lauren Lee leads the HL with 5.0 assists per game. She also has a 3.8 assist to turnover ratio, which is second-best.
In the HL
Alana Nelson’s 16.7 points per game leads the Horizon League and her 50.0 field goal percentage ranks second in the league. Her 39.3 3-point percentage is fourth. In a small sample size of league play, she leads the league with 23.0 points per game.
Reid About Jordan
Jordan Reid is the only player in the Horizon League in the top-five in both rebounding (6.5) and steals (2.5) per game.
I’ll Take That
Jordan Reid is averaging 2.5 steals per game, which ranks second in the Horizon League and top-70 nationally. If that average holds for a season-long mark, it would be second-best in the program’s Division I era and fourth-best overall.
Inside The Arc? Guaranteed Bucket
Lili Krasovec is shooting 64.6 percent from the floor this season (42-for-65). If she qualified for the leaderboard with enough attempts, she would lead the Horizon League in the field goal percentage category. Once she reaches 75 made baskets, she would qualify for the season mark in Mastodon history. Her 64.6 percent would rank first, topping Jazzlyn Linbo’s 58.3 from last season.
Home Sweet Gates
Purdue Fort Wayne is 47-21 (69.1 percent) at home under head coach Maria Marchesano and 32-6 (84.2 percent) over the last three seasons.

The Eagles will open their OVC schedule on Thursday, December 18, against the University of Arkansas at Little Rock before hosting Morehead State University on Saturday, December 20. Both OVC games are at Liberty Arena.
The Screaming Eagles are coming off a solid road win at East Tennessee State University last Saturday, winning 56-41. Following a low-scoring first half, the Eagles came from behind at halftime and pulled away with a strong second half by outscoring the Buccaneers 35-15 after the intermission. The 41 points allowed were the fourth fewest that USI’s defense has surrendered against a D-I opponent since USI moved up to Division I in 2022.
Individually, against East Tennessee State, junior forward Chloe Gannon led USI with a career-high 22 points, setting a new career mark for the second consecutive game. Junior guard Sophia Loden logged her third double-double in a row, posting 10 points with 13 rebounds. Also noteworthy from last Saturday’s road game at East Tennessee State, senior guard Ali Saunders, who notched eight points in the contest, surpassed 1,000 career points.

VALPO WOMEN’S BASKETBALL NEWS
BEACONS FALL TO SIUE FRIDAY EVENING
Allia von Schlegell (Downers Grove, Ill./Nazareth Academy) scored a career-best 18 points to lead all scorers as five Beacons scored at least eight points, but it wasn’t enough Friday evening at the ARC as visiting SIUE came away with the 76-69 victory.
How It Happened
The Beacons found themselves in an early hole, as the Cougars opened the game on a 10-2 run over the first four minutes.
Valpo responded with an 11-2 run featuring points from five different players, and when Milana Nenadic (Kitchener, Ontario/Cameron Heights [Idaho State/Maine]) hit a jumper with 2:18 to play in the opening period, the Beacons led 13-12.
SIUE held a 15-13 edge when the clock expired on the first quarter.
The Cougars’ lead was six approaching the midway point of the second period before von Schlegell and Kennedy Sproule (Niverville, Manitoba/Churchill [Bay College]) hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, forcing SIUE to call a timeout with the score tied at 21 and 5:19 remaining in the half.
Out of the stoppage, SIUE went on a 10-2 run over the next three-plus minutes to regain control. The Cougars’ lead was 36-30 at halftime.
The story of the third quarter was close but no cigar for the Beacons. Six separate times, Valpo cut the SIUE advantage to a one-possession game, but was never able to tie or take the lead.
A 3-point play from Autumn Dibb (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and a pair of free throws from von Schlegell brought Valpo within 51-50 with 1:59 to play in the third period, but SIUE scored the final four points of the quarter to lead 55-50 with 10 minutes to play.
Back-to-back triples for the Cougars blew a five-point lead up to 11, forcing a Valpo timeout with 6:02 remaining in the game. The Beacons battled back from as much as a 12-point deficit to get to within five late, but were unable to get any closer.
Inside the Game
von Schlegell finished with a game-high 18 points, outdoing her previous best of 15 from earlier this season at Milwaukee. It was her fourth double-figure scoring effort of the season.
Fiona Connolly (South Burlington, Vt./Brewster Academy [La Salle]) joined her in double figures with 13 points, hitting double digits for the seventh time this year. Connolly also dished out a team-best four assists while not committing a turnover.
Sproule came off the bench to hit 3-of-5 from 3-point range for nine points, while Nenadic and Kamryn Winch (Bonne Terre, Mo./North County [Maryville]) added eight points apiece.
Valpo did a lot of its offensive damage at the foul line Friday, where it was a +14 over SIUE. The Beacons hit 20-of-24 from the stripe, their first time hitting at least 20 free throws while shooting at least 80% since doing so last December against Southern Illinois.
The Beacons held the edge in the rebounding department for the third time in their last five games, finishing with a 38-33 advantage. A balanced team effort on the glass was led by six boards from Dibb.
Valpo finished with a season-low 12 turnovers.

Next Up
Valpo (0-10) faces a quick turnaround, as it makes the short trip to Kalamazoo, Mich. for a noon CT tip at Western Michigan Sunday afternoon.
