Jeremy Fears Jr. also scored 21 points and dished out nine assists for Michigan State (24-5, 14-4 Big Ten). Fears had 23 points and 10 assists in the Spartans’ 81-60 home victory over the Hoosiers this season. Kur Teng supplied 18 points, all on 3-pointers, for Michigan State. Lamar Wilkerson carried the Hoosiers (17-12, 8-10) with 29 points. Tucker DeVries contributed 20 points with six rebounds but Indiana’s losing streak increased to four games. Bench scoring was a huge factor, as Michigan State outscored Indiana in that category 22-0, with most of those points coming from Teng. Overall, the Spartans shot 49% while the Hoosiers were held to 39.3% shooting. Michigan State made half of its 24 3-point attempts and outrebounded Indiana, 35-27. The Spartans had their first double digit lead at 21-10 when Cameron Ward made a layup eight minutes and change into the contest. Teng hit a 3-pointer with 4:24 left in the half to give Michigan State a 13-point lead. The Hoosiers then had an 8-2 spurt, including five points from Wilkerson. The Spartans were still up 45-37 at halftime, with Kohler and Teng combining for 26 points. Another Wilkerson 3-pointer made it a five-point spread at 60-55. The Spartans then scored seven consecutive points, capped by Coen Carr’s putback. Cutter Gauthier scored twice for the Ducks, who have won 12 of 14 games and moved within one point of the Vegas Golden Knights for the top spot in the Pacific Division. Anaheim also has one game in hand. Goalie Lukas Dostal made 32 saves through overtime and surrendered one goal in the shootout. McTavish netted the difference winner in the third round by patiently waiting for an opening before tucking home the puck. Anaheim has a perfect 7-0 record in shootouts this season. Leo Carlsson also scored in the shootout. Joel Farabee and Yegor Sharangovich scored in regulation for the Flames, who finished a three-game road trip through California with a 1-1-1 record. Goalie Devin Cooley stopped 34 shots through overtime but could not find enough magic in the shootout. Islanders 5, Panthers 4 Anders Lee scored the game-winning goal with 30.9 seconds left for surging New York, which overcame another two-goal deficit to beat Florida in Elmont, N.Y. Lee got a step on the Panthers’ Aaron Ekblad, extended his stick to draw out goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and buried a forehand into the wide-open left corner of the net. Rookie Matthew Schaefer scored twice while Carson Soucy and Bo Horvat also scored for the Islanders, who have won five straight games. New York has trailed 2-0 in each of its last three victories. Goalie David Rittich made 29 saves. Sam Bennett scored twice while Sandis Vilmanis and Sam Reinhart scored one apiece for Florida, which has lost seven of nine (2-7-0). Bobrovsky recorded 21 saves. It was the second career shutout in 47 career starts for Silovs. Bryan Rust, Ben Kindel and Justin Brazeau each had a goal and an assist, Erik Karlsson had two assists and Egor Chinakhov and Rickard Rakell also scored goals for the Penguins, who improved to 10-1-4 since Jan. 13. Adin Hill finished with 17 saves for the Golden Knights, who their second straight game. Vegas forward Mark Stone left near the end of the first period and didn’t return after defenseman Kris Letang gave him a seemingly harmless shove to his upper left arm with his stick. Stone went down to one knee and then immediately skated to the locker room. Blues 3, Wild 1 Pavel Buchnevich scored the go-ahead goal with 3:39 to play, and St. Louis held on for a win over Minnesota in Saint Paul, Minn. Logan Mailloux and Robert Thomas also scored for the Blues, who bounced back from a loss against the New Jersey Devils one day earlier. St. Louis won for the second time in its last three games. Goaltender Joel Hofer stopped 22 of 23 shots to earn the victory. He improved to 14-11-3 on the season and moved within one win of 50 career victories. Kirill Kaprizov scored the lone goal for the Wild, who have dropped back-to-back contests. Goaltender Filip Gustavsson turned aside 21 of 23 shots. Sharks 2, Jets 1 (OT) Michael Misa scored at 1:40 of overtime, and San Jose rallied for a win against visiting Winnipeg. PETE DOMINANCE Alex Palou blasted off the 2026 starting line with the same dominance he displayed in 2025, cruising to an overwhelming victory over the field Sunday at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Fla. The Spaniard bested his next best competitor, New Zealand’s Scott McLaughlin, by nearly 12.5 seconds (12.4948), continuing a tradition of control of a sport that he so firmly established in 2025 with a 196-point championship margin. “This team keeps on improving, keeps on making new changes, and they just keep on raising the bar,” Palou said after guiding his No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to the checkered flag. “It’s pretty impressive. It’s a long season in front of us, but what a great way to start the season.” As the reigning winner of this event, Palou and Chip Ganassi Racing took some time in gaining the lead — on Lap 42 of 100 — yet that deliberate approach proved fruitful, and Palou credited his team’s approach to new tire regulations as being key. “Those Firestones were like everlasting,” Palou said. “They would just keep going. I had an amazing car today.” Indy Car rules required at least two sets of Firestone Firehawk alternate tire with red sidewalls — a softer tire — be used. The change didn’t negatively affect Palou, who nevertheless opted for a traditional firmer tire for his final leg. McLaughlin jockeyed with Christian Lundgaard of Denmark and Kyle Kirkwood across the final 10 laps, with McLaughlin and Lundgaard passing Kirkwood to secure second and third, respectively. Kirkwood finished fourth, and Mexico’s Pato O’Ward rounded out the top five. TYLER REDDICK PREVAILS AT COTA; FIRST DRIVER TO WIN FIRST 3 CUP SERIES RACES Tyler Reddick made history Sunday that was 78 seasons in the making, having to beat NASCAR’s best road racer to do it. The California native stormed away from Shane van Gisbergen in a 17-lap dash for his third straight win, taking the checkers at the DuraMax Texas Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas road course in Austin, Texas. The 30-year-old Reddick became the first driver in the 78-year history of the NASCAR Cup Series to be victorious in the first three races of a season. A winner of five straight road-course races, van Gisbergen pressured Reddick’s No. 45 Toyota on the final restart, got close in his No. 97 Chevrolet but watched the Camry XSE get smaller in front of him and win by 3.944 seconds. “It means the world,” said Reddick, who led a race-high 58 laps in his second COTA victory. “It’s so fitting. We get going at the end there, I’m leading and there’s SVG. The guy I’ve been trying to beat for a while now. To be able to outlast him there and hold on for the win is just incredible.” van Gisbergen, who won the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race Saturday, earned victories five times on road courses in 2025, but his only miss was one year ago in Texas. “Just following Tyler, his driving was immaculate,” said the New Zealand native, who recorded his first top-five in the state capital. “His car was very good, too. I tried but just didn’t have enough.” Christopher Bell, Ty Gibbs and Michael McDowell completed the top five. To open the first of four road races in 2026, Reddick of 23XI Racing paced the group around the 2.4-mile, 20-turn layout, but Chase Briscoe took the point right away with Ryan Blaney hounding the No. 19 Toyota and passing it on Lap 9. Ross Chastain earned top points for the Stage 1 win, with van Gisbergen, McDowell, Chris Buescher and AJ Allmendinger completing the top five spots. Running seventh on the restart, 19-year-old phenom Connor Zilisch was clipped by Daniel Suarez and spun entering Turn 1, sliding all the way to 37th. Reddick repositioned his Toyota as soon as the green flag flew in the 25-lap Stage 2, and he led Blaney and William Byron for the top three spots as van Gisbergen moved up to fourth past Suarez. Pitting began three laps early for a second time, and Reddick headed in for service while Gibbs, Allmendinger and Suarez took the first three spots at Stage 2’s completion. On Lap 60, the best battle was a physical one between Bell, Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch for ninth thru 11th, but Reddick’s Toyota continued to hold off Blaney by less than a second. Bell became the first of the lead group to come to pit road for a final stop with 33 laps left, but Briscoe took his Toyota behind the wall for a rear-end problem. On Lap 75, Chastain lost a wheel to bring out the third caution overall but the first for cause with McDowell, who stayed out while the entire field pitted, leading the race. ====================================================================== GOLF SHANE LOWRY’S COLLAPSE ALLOWS NICO ECHAVARRIA TO WIN COGNIZANT CLASSIC Keeping it simple and mistake-free was enough for Colombia’s Nico Echavarria in the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches. Echavarria played a steady final round of 5-under-par 66 and benefited from late struggles from Ireland’s Shane Lowry to win the tournament Sunday at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. “I had some good breaks,” Echavarria said. “To win out here, sometimes you have to have good breaks if you’re not Scottie Scheffler that hits it every time in the perfect place. So I’m happy with how it went.” Echavarria, who trailed by three strokes on the backside, turned in a total score of 17-under 267 at PGA National’s Champion Course for his first PGA Tour victory since 2024 and his third overall. He held a two-stroke edge on Lowry, Austin Smotherman and Taylor Moore. Lowry, who posted 68, appeared heading toward a victory until double-bogeys on Nos. 16 and 17 cost him. His tee shots on both holes ended up in the water. “I had the tournament in my hands, and I threw it away,” Lowry said. Until then, he was 6 under for the round without a bogey. The first double-bogey allowed Echavarria, who was in the process of notching a birdie on No. 17, to pull even. The next series of miscues handed Echavarria the lead. “I played unbelievable all day, and one bad shot on 16 completely threw me for the last three holes,” Lowry said. Echavarria, who was without a bogey Sunday, was in the group ahead of Lowry, but he was aware there was trouble developing behind him. After Echavarria’s tee shot on No. 18, he and his caddie acknowledged that Lowry might be facing more difficulties. “I think he hit it in the water again,” Echavarria recalled of the conversation. “It was more playing smart, getting a 5 (for par on No. 18) out of there and just getting out of here.” Before the tournament, Lowry expressed his disappointment in the course set-up becoming easier in recent years for the PGA Tour event. He took advantage until the final holes. When he began Sunday’s backside with an eagle on the par-5 10th hole, he appeared in control. In a strange way, it’s a hometown victory for Echavarria, who with his wife closed on a home in Palm Beach Gardens just a few days earlier. Moore also shot 68. Smotherman, who began the round tied for the lead with Lowry, had a birdie on the last hole to register 69. Moore finished with the second-best finish of his career. “I was happy to put four rounds together,” Moore said. “It’s been a little while for me since I’ve done that, and I just was really pleased with how I regrouped after No. 6 (with a bogey) and played some solid golf coming in.” Ricky Castillo, with a final-round 68, finished fifth at 13 under. Brooks Koepka had a notable final day as his 65 was tied for the best score of the round. “Finally found some confidence,” Koepka said. “I think that’s the one thing that’s been lacking.” Sinking a shot from the greenside bunker on No. 14 certainly helped. The result was Koepka’s best finish – a ninth-place tie at 10 under – in three events since returning to the PGA Tour this winter. “Once you get inside the ropes, it feels natural,” Koepka said. “I think it’s easier once you get inside those ropes.” Denmark’s Nicolai Hojgaard also had 65, putting him at 11 under in a sixth-place tie with William Mouw (67) and Keith Mitchell (68). “I’m really happy that I made a good jump on the weekend,” Hojgaard said. “Didn’t feel great about the game the first couple of days, so to find something (Saturday), or at least grind out a good score, and then play really, really well today was nice.” HANNAH GREEN WINS HER 2ND HSBC WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Australia’s Hannah Green held off Auston Kim on Sunday to win the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore for the second time. Green, the 2024 champion, balanced three birdies and three bogeys on an eventful back nine to finish with a 3-under 69 and a final score of 14-under at Sentosa Golf Club. The 2019 Women’s PGA Championship winner tapped in for bogey at the 18th for her seventh LPGA Tour title. “When I did win Singapore two years ago, I went on to win two other tournaments that season and pretty much had my best season on tour,” said Green, 29. “So having a win so early in the season gives me a bit more flexibility with the tournaments that I can play. So I’m hoping that this puts me in good stead for the rest of the year.” Green was at 16-under after birdies at the first, 11th and 13th holes and an eagle at the par-5 eighth hole. Her birdie at the par-3 15th helped her survive a bogey-bogey finish. “I knew that I had enough of a lead to be able to get away with making mistakes coming down the stretch. But I think 15 was the real turning point,” she said. First- and second-round leader Kim nearly chased down her first title, matching the low round of the day with a 67 to finish one shot behind Green in the 72-hole, no-cut tournament. Kim carded six birdies and an eagle at No. 8, but a bogey at the par-3 15th proved costly for the 25-year-old American. “Overall, I think it was a really solid week,” Kim said. “A great way to start the year. I hit a lot of bad shots but I also hit a lot of good ones, and it was really confidence boosting. I hit all these bad shots, and I didn’t feel like I had anything chose to my A game, but I was still able it pull off a result like this and play some really solid golf.” Australia’s Minjee Lee (72 on Sunday), Angel Yin (71) and France’s Pauline Roussin-Bouchard (68) tied for third place at 11-under with South Korea’s Haeran Ryu (72) another shot back in solo sixth. World No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand finished with a 73 and tied for 31st at 2-under, one shot behind defending champion Lydia Ko (72) of New Zealand. ======================================================================= INDIANA SPORTS TEAM RELEASES INDIANA PACERS GAME REWIND: PACERS 106, GRIZZLIES 125 The Indiana Pacers hosted the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday to close out a four-game homestand before hitting the road for a four-game West coast road trip next week. Both teams played without multiple starters in Sunday’s matinee matchup. The Pacers’ offense was efficient throughout the contest, but Memphis’ attack overwhelmed the Blue and Gold in the second half. The Pacers fell to the Grizzlies, 125-106. Indiana’s offense was clicking throughout the first period – four different players notched five or more points as the Pacers scored 34 in the opening 12 minutes. Obi Toppin finished the frame with four points, four rebounds, and three assists while Jarace Walker led the Blue and Gold in scoring with six points. Jaylen Wells and Taylor Hendricks were dangerous for Memphis and combined to score 17 of the Grizzlies’ own 34 points in the opening quarter. The game was knotted after one, 34-34. Taelon Peter and Jay Huff double-rejected GG Jackson early in the second quarter, and Quenton Jackson threw down a strong dunk over Hendricks. The slam put Indiana up two points, 52-50, at the halfway point of the second quarter. The Blue and Gold attack was well-balanced throughout the first half of play – eight of ten players notched five or more points, though none of them reached double-figures. Huff’s nine points led the way for Indiana, followed by Jarace Walker’s seven points. Memphis went on an 11-4 run to close the half in front, 65-60, led by Wells’ 15 points. Walker was the first Pacer to hit double figures as his 3-pointer early in the third quarter gave him 10 points. Ben Sheppard hit a triple following Walker’s, and the Pacers were back within five points of the Grizzlies’ lead after falling behind by as many as 11 points. Micah Potter hit a groove in the third – he scored nine points on 4-for-5 shooting in the frame as Indiana battled from behind. The Pacers trailed by eight points heading into the fourth quarter, 91-83. Indiana fell behind by as many as 14 points in the fourth, but put together an 8-0 run to cut the deficit back to six points by the halfway mark of the frame. Memphis responded with a 9-1 run down the stretch, and the Pacers trailed by 19 points with under three minutes to play, 119-100. The Pacers’ offense was efficient, but Indiana couldn’t keep up with the Grizzlies’ efficiency down the stretch. The Pacers fell to the Grizzlies, 125-106. Walker had a strong second half for the Pacers, and led the Blue and Gold in scoring with 21 points. Four Pacers recorded double-digit scoring totals, and Kam Jones notched a double-double. Indiana shot the ball well – 48 percent of its looks went down, including 39 percent from deep. Wells and Hendricks were strong for Memphis – they combined to score 37 points for the Grizzlies. As efficient as Indiana was from the floor, Memphis shot a higher percentage. The Grizzlies made 50 percent of their shots, including 43 percent from 3-point range. The Pacers are back in action on Wednesday, March 4 at 10:30 PM ET as they travel to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers. Inside the Numbers The Pacers committed 19 turnovers that led to 25 Grizzlies points. The Pacers shot 19 free throws, but made just 13 of them. Memphis was a perfect 14-for-14 from the stripe. Indiana had five players record double-figure scoring totals. Memphis had seven. Indiana outscored the Grizzlies by six points in Obi Toppin’s minutes and five points in T.J. McConnell’s minutes. You Can Quote Me on That “We’ve got some guys that are getting experience, and oftentimes getting experience is painful. And turnovers, unfortunately, can be a big, significant part of it.” – coach Rick Carlisle on Indiana’s recent turnover troubles “He’s exerting more vertical force on the rim. That’s very positive. For him, it comes down to just continuing to learn to read the game.” – Carlisle on Jarace Walker’s growth “He’s learning a lot, he’s figuring a lot of things out…It’s pretty clear when you watch him play that he has a certain kind of old school moxie for the game. He’s not real flashy. He does it with skill, knowledge, and change of speed. And so he’s a tricky player to guard, and he’s very deceptive.” – Carlisle on Kam Jones “I feel like I’ve been doing a better job of catching and going, just making quick decisions, not just catching and holding. I feel like that’s the biggest thing. And then just reading defenses.” – Jarace Walker on his growing comfort with his decision-making “As I’ve been getting more and more reps, the game is just kind of slowing down for me. The reads are a lot easier to make just by getting game time, getting reps these past few games.” – Kam Jones on his growing comfort with extended playing time “Every game that’s really my mindset, just be aggressive defensively. If that’s my mindset and I go out there and do that, the offense just comes.” – Jones on his defense-first mentality “Sometimes I think I’m annoying them with a lot of the questions I ask them…They always take the time out to explain to me what they think and what they see and even tell me things that they’ve been through in their career, specifically in their rookie year.” – Jones on the mentorship of Pacers’ veteran players Stat of the Night Kam Jones recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists. Noteworthy The Pacers are 34-26 against the Grizzlies all-time. Memphis took the season series with Indiana, 2-0. The Pacers announced on Saturday that Quenton Jackson’s two-way contract was being converted to a standard NBA contract. Indiana also signed Noblesville Boom forward Jalen Slawson to a two-way contract on Saturday. Up Next The Pacers hit the road again as they head to Los Angeles for a matchup with the Clippers on Wednesday, March 4 at 10:30 PM ET. ====================================================================== INDY IGNITE IGNITE FINISH FIRST HALF OF MLV SEASON WITH EMPHATIC WIN OVER OMAHA FISHERS, Ind. (March 1, 2026) – Halfway through the 2026 Major League Volleyball season, things couldn’t be going much better for the Indy Ignite. Following an impressive triumph over visiting Omaha, the Ignite boast a league-best 12-2 record and a lead of three games over the nearest competitor. After dropping the first set to the Supernovas, the Ignite unleashed a vicious attack that saw them sweep the following three sets and compile franchise records in kill percentage (48.8%) and efficiency (37.4%) for a four-set match. The victory was Indy’s first over Omaha at Fishers Event Center in four all-time meetings and extended the Ignite’s win streak to a franchise-best six. Omaha broke from a 13-13 tie in the opening frame to take it 25-17 in one of the more uneven sets of the season for the Ignite. Indy head coach Lauren Bertolacci then inserted outside hitter Kayla Lund for the second set and it made a world of difference. Seeing her first extensive playing time in a month since injuring her knee, Lund delivered an all-around sensational performance with 14 kills on otherworldly kill percentage (70.0%) and efficiency (65.0%) figures, adding 10 digs to complete her third double-double of the season. “Knowing the situation that we were in after the first set, that was my game plan,” Lund said. “Just come in and bring some joy and some life. Like Lauren says, I am a cleaner upper and I’m a proud cleaner upper. I play my best when I help out my teammates and I have the most fun when I do that. That was my focus: how can I make my teammates better; how can I help us.” “Knowing the situation that we were in after the first set, that was my game plan,” Lund said. “Just come in and bring some joy and some life. Like Lauren says, I am a cleaner upper and I’m a proud cleaner upper. I play my best when I help out my teammates and I have the most fun when I do that. That was my focus: how can I make my teammates better; how can I help us.” Lund had four kills, six digs and a block in the second set when Indy never led by more than four points, finally pulling away to a 25-22 win. Opposite hitter Camryn Hannah scored on four kills and a block in the set, with setter Mia Tuaniga dishing 16 assists, dropping two kills and adding a pair of digs. A five-point burst let the Ignite pull away from 12-all deadlock in set three, and while the Supernovas did close within 21-20, outside hitter Anna DeBeer pushed Indy to take the set 25-21 by scoring her team’s last three points on two kills and a service ace. DeBeer totaled eight points (five kills, two aces, one block) in the set, with Lund chipping in five kills and Tuaniga totaling 17 assists. Indy blew open the fourth set with an early 8-2 run and closed it with a 9-2 burst to end the match with the 25-13 set triumph. Behind five Lund kills and four more from Hannah, the Ignite hit a sensational 63.6% with 54.5% efficiency in the clincher. “It was just one of those games where things were going my way,” Lund said following her 14-for-20 attack performance. “When you kind of reach just a flow state of, ‘I didn’t fully mean to do that and it fell and I’ll take it.’ Sometimes they just barely kiss the back line and I’ll take it. Our team set me up pretty well. Mia’s a great setter, and we got digs everywhere. Normally I’m not that offensive, but I’ll take that for a win.” The Ignite placed four players in double figures, led by DeBeer with 19 points (13 kills, three aces, three blocks) in her second consecutive strong match this week. “Now that she’s jumping through the roof, we’re getting used to her hitting from that height again,” Bertolacci said of the second-year pro from Louisville. “There were some really nice swings and some nice overload plays that she put down today, so I’m really happy to see Anna’s progression. The last couple games have been really phenomenal from her.” Lund’s 14 points all came on kills in just three sets of action. Hannah also had 14 points (12 kills, one block, one ace) and middle blocker Lydia Martyn scored 10 (nine kills, one block). Middle blocker Blake Mohler just missed the double-digit club with nine points (seven kills, two blocks). Tuaniga finished with 52 assists and 11 digs for her own double-double, tying libero Elena Scott for the team lead in digs. The Ignite have a week between matches now but aren’t about to rest on any laurels earned from their sensational opening half of the season. If anything, it motivates them to keep reaching for the next levels and chase that ultimate achievement, the MLV championship. “We’ve had a great start but that doesn’t mean we need to stop working,” DeBeer said. “There’s so much game left, a lot of season left, so we’re really just going to take it game by game and we have a lot to improve on and we know that. If we can keep on doing that, it’ll be really good for us as we finish out this season.” The Ignite host Grand Rapids at 6 p.m. ET Sunday, March 8. A pair of special events take place before the match. To commemorate International Women’s Day, Ignite President and General Manager Mary Kay Huse will host a panel discussion featuring some of the top women CEOs in Indiana at 3:30 p.m. At the same time, families, youth and community groups may participate in interactive activities focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) to collect stamps in a STEM Fest passport and earn an Ignite prize. Tickets are available at IndyIgniteVB.com. ===================================================================== IU MEN’S BB HOOSIERS FALL TO SPARTANS BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Forward Tucker DeVries threw his body over Branch McCracken Court as if he had two more to spare. Indiana’s graduate forward did not, but that wasn’t the Sunday afternoon point at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Making enough winning plays to help snap a three-game losing streak and upset No. 13/13 Michigan State was. It didn’t happen. Guard Lamar Wilkerson seemingly willed in shots near and far. It wasn’t enough. As clock ticked to zero, Michigan State guard Jeremy Fears Jr. dribbled to the inevitable in IU’s 77-64 defeat. Tucker DeVries and Wilkerson combined for 26 of the Hoosiers’ 27 second-half points. Wilkerson finished with 29. DeVries added 20. IU (17-12 overall, 8-10 in the Big Ten) needed more against the Spartans (24-5, 14-4). “A lot of credit to MSU and how they played,” Tucker DeVries said. “They put us in a lot of difficult spots, but we gave ourselves chances to stay in the game. They got some offensive rebounds and hit some tough shots. Those are the plays we have to make to win these type of games. You have to be on point on almost everything and we weren’t.” Yet, the Hoosiers kept staying within range, in part because of their effort. “Sometimes you walk away from losses, and you want them back,” Tucker DeVries said. “You want all of them back, but there are times you lay it all out there and it’s not enough. This was more on that side of it. We still have a lot to learn.” Michigan State’s early ruthless offensive produced a series of double-digit leads IU could never overcome. Adding to the difficulty — the Spartans were 12-for-24 beyond the arc to offset IU’s 10-for-35. They also had a 22-0 edge in bench points. “We played with a lot of effort,” Tucker DeVries said. “We competed at a high level. It was some of the execution we lacked, and offensive rebounding, when we needed them the most, we weren’t able to get them.” Michigan State’s nine second-half offensive rebounds, which led to 12 second-chance points, ensured the Hoosiers couldn’t come back from an eight-point halftime deficit. “Our fight was great,” coach Darian DeVries said, “especially in the second half. But (the Spartans) go those nine offensive rebounds in the second half, which were killers. They came up with all the loose balls and big plays. “Our guys hung around, but they couldn’t get enough offensive players to get over the hump. They were leaving it all out there.” Tucker DeVries opened IU’s scoring with a 3-pointer, but Michigan State pushed ahead 9-3. After IU began 1-for-8 from the field, forward Sam Alexis powered in a layup and completed a three-point play. Tucker DeVries followed with a steal and a basket to make it 14-10. Michigan State responded with seven straight points. Tucker DeVries ended that run with three free throws. Triples from guard Nick Dorn and Wilkerson, and then a Dorn free throw left IU trailing 28-20 with 8:20 left. Michigan State pushed ahead by 13. Wilkerson hit a 3-pointer. Guard Conor Enright followed with another. IU closed within 41-34 with two minutes left. A Tucker DeVries 3-pointer made it 45-37 at halftime. DeVries led IU with 13 points. Wilkerson added 10. Second-half urgency started with a Tucker DeVries 3-pointer and seven Wilkerson points to cut the Spartans’ lead to six points after seven minutes. A Wilkerson layup and then a 3-pointer twice cut the lead to five. The Hoosiers kept pushing. The Spartans kept pushing back. A Tucker DeVries basket got IU within 72-64 with three minutes left. But with Michigan State’s Fears Jr., Jaxon Kohler, and Kur Teng all making plays (they combined for 60 points and 19 rebounds), IU got no closer. Now comes its final two games of the season — hosting Minnesota on Wednesday and playing at Ohio State on Saturday. The Big Ten tourney in Chicago follows. “We’re not playing our best,” Wilkerson said. “There are a lot of things we have to fix. “We’re playing some good teams. We have to find a way to get back to the way we were playing at the end of January and beginning of February (when IU won five of six games). If we get back to that, we’ll be good in March. “We have to finish strong. It’s one step in front of the next. Try to make a run in the Big Ten tournament and hopefully we’ll be where we want to be.” ===================================================================== INDIANA BASBALL RICKETTS’ BIG DAY SECURES SUNDAY VICTORY BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In the final game of a four-game set, the Indiana Baseball team (5-7, 0-0 B1G) played a fantastic all-around contest to salvage a series split with Western Kentucky (7-6, 0-0 B1G) at Nick Denes Field. The Hoosiers won 7-3 in the Sunday (March 1) finale as IU’s pitching staff held off a potent offensive attack. The win was IU’s third true road win of the young season. Redshirt freshman Brayden Ricketts continued his fantastic stretch of play, launching two home runs in the win over Western Kentucky. His first-inning, three-run blast gave IU an early lead and it never looked back. Ricketts added a solo home run in the eighth inning for good measure. On the weekend, he hit .600 (9-15) with two home runs, seven RBIs, two doubles and four runs. Senior right-handed pitcher Jackson Bergman offered another fantastic start on Sunday afternoon. He went five innings while allowing just two runs (one earned). All three of IU’s main starters worked into at least the fifth inning this weekend. Graduate student southpaw worked a season-best three innings out of the bullpen. Junior right-handed pitcher Jackson Yarberry came on to get the final three outs. IU’s offense struggled with runners in scoring position (3-17) but came through with clutch at-bats when it needed it the most. On top of Ricketts’ three run-producing hits, Denny offered up a sacrifice fly. Sophomore shortstop Cooper Malamazian was the only other IU player with a multi-hit day. The Hoosiers are scheduled to return home this week to Bart Kaufman Field for the first full week of action. Northern Kentucky is set to come to town on Tuesday (March 3) before Washington makes the trek east for the first Big Ten weekend of the year (March 6-8). All four games will be carried on B1G+. Ricketts is now on an eight-game hitting streak this season. • Sophomore first baseman Jake Hanley is starting to see the ball well after a slow start to the season. He had another hit in Sunday’s win to extend his hitting streak to six games. Hanley is hitting .550 over his last five games with 11 hits in 20 at-bats. • Graduate student southpaw Conner Linn provided his best outing of the season. He worked three innings of one-run ball in relief of the starter, senior right-handed pitcher Jackson Bergman. The Boilermakers fell to 22-7 overall and 12-6 in the Big Ten Conference with the setback. Ohio State has defeated Purdue three straight times for the first time since the Buckeyes won six straight from Feb. 7, 2012, to March 13, 2014. Purdue is now just 5-16 all-time in Value City Arena and 3-7 as a ranked team in Value City Arena. Purdue was outrebounded 36-29 and had just 10 free throw attempts to Ohio State’s 32 – a season high in attempts for an opponent. The 32 free throw attempts by Ohio State equal the most for an opponent since Rutgers shot 36 on Jan. 28, 2020. Purdue’s bench scored just five points with seven rebounds, shooting 2-of-10 from the field. The five points were Purdue’s fewest off the bench since scoring four against Penn State on Jan. 10, 2026. It marked only the second time this season that Purdue was held under 10 points off the bench. Opponents have shot over 50.0 percent from the field in each of the last four games, combining to go 107-of-205 (.522) from the field in that span. Purdue is averaging just 6.6 turnovers per game over the last five contests. Purdue is shooting 53-of-128 (.414) from 3-point range over the last five games. Braden Smith scored 20 points with seven assists and two steals, surpassing 1,800 career points in the contest. He needs four points to move into the top 10 on the Purdue career scoring list. Smith’s seven assists give him 1,011 assists, moving past LIU Brooklyn’s Jason Brickman into fourth place on the NCAA’s career assists chart. Fletcher Loyer went 5-of-9 from 3-point range, scoring 15 points with four rebounds and two assists. Loyer now has 274 career 3-pointers, needing eight to pass Carsen Edwards for the school’s career 3-pointers made record. Purdue lost for the first time in Fletcher Loyer’s career when he makes four or more 3-pointers, falling to 23-1 when that happens. Since February 1, Fletcher Loyer is 29-of-59 (.492) from 3-point range. Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 19 points with nine rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting. Over the last five games, TKR is averaging 17.6 points and 9.0 rebounds on 37-of-64 (.578) shooting from the field. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — John Mobley Jr. scored 21 points to lead Ohio State to an 82-74 win over No. 8 Purdue on Sunday. A crowd that included a loud contingent of Boilermakers fans watched the Buckeyes revive their fading NCAA Tournament hopes and beat Purdue for the third time in a row. Purdue (22-7, 12-6 Big Ten) led by as many as seven in the first half, but Ohio State (18-11, 10-8) used a 14-3 run to open up a 23-19 lead on Amare Bynum’s 3-pointer with 6:44 to go. The Buckeyes led by five at the half despite Purdue making 8 of 14 from 3-point range, a deficit Ohio State made up at the free-throw line. The Buckeyes made 8 of 11 from the charity stripe while Purdue was 1 for 2. Ohio State took a 16-point lead on a pair of free throws by Devin Royal with 7:41 to go in the second half. Purdue went on a 12-2 run to get within six, but Bynum hit a 3-pointer and Royal added a put-back slam to stop the bleeding and put the Buckeyes back up 11. Thornton finished with 20 points while Bynum added 14 points and Royal finished with 12. Braden Smith scored 20 to lead Purdue while Fletcher Loyer added 15. Trey Kaufman-Renn had 19 points and was Purdue’s main offensive weapon in the second half as the Boilermakers went cold from the outside. They were 3 for 15 from beyond the arc in the second half, including one by Loyer just before the buzzer after OSU fans had started to celebrate. ===================================================================== PURDUE WOMEN’S BB PURDUE PUNCHES BIG TEN TOURNAMENT TICKET WITH SEASON FINALE WIN AT NORTHWESTERN WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – In a must-win game to reach the Big Ten Tournament, the Purdue women’s basketball team picked up 67-62 win on the road over Northwestern. Purdue (8-3) won its sixth straight game and improved to 26-5 at the North Main Athletic Complex dating back to 2022. The Boilermakers have swept three four-game series during that span. Purdue scored four times in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings, bringing the run-rule into effect after Jacob Boland retired the Red Foxes (0-10) in order in the top of the seventh. The Boilermakers posted their highest run total since winning 20-4 at Illinois on the final Sunday of April last season. They scored at least 18 runs over six innings for the first time since a 4/20 victory vs. East Tennessee State in 2024. Jarvis Evans cruised through 4 1/3 innings of four-hit ball, racking up eight strikeouts vs. no walks. The eight Ks were the most by a Purdue pitcher this season. The lefty was not asked to go deep after the Boilers had opened up a 12-1 lead when he took the mound for the fifth inning. Freshman Tro Fellings worked a scoreless sixth inning in his collegiate debut. In the fourth inning, Purdue erupted for four hits on four consecutive pitches, the first three knocks all going for extra bases. Trey Swiderski led off the inning with his second home run of the season. Brandon Rogers hit the next pitch off the center field wall for a triple, chasing the Marist pitcher. Ross Highfill greeted the new reliever with another triple to center field. DeCello singled home Highfill on the first pitch he saw as a pinch hitter. DeCello had a hit in three consecutive innings and finished just a triple shy of the cycle. He drove in a run in all three at-bats to finish with a six-RBI day, the most RBI by a Boilermaker since Aaron Manias had eight in the 2025 midweek opener at Indiana State. DeCello’s grand slam was a towering blast to right field that seemed ticketed to land on Main Street where the road rises above the east side of the stadium’s footprint past the right field foul pole. Instead the ball hit a light pole and led to an estimated distance of 450 feet from TrackMan. Headlined by its five-run ninth inning in its 11-10 walk-off win in game 2 of the series, Purdue scored four-plus runs in a frame seven times on the weekend. Boyle connected for a three-run double in the third inning and RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Over the first 11 games of his collegiate career, the shortstop has seven multi-hit efforts and five multi-RBI games. He continues to lead the team with 21 hits and 16 RBI while committing just one error defensively. Sam Flores, Rogers and Boyle hit safely in all four games of the series. Rogers has a hit in all six games of Purdue’s current win streak. The Boilermakers are back in action Friday when they open Big Ten Conference play and their home season against first-time foe Oregon, a team led by former Purdue head coach Mark Wasikowski. First pitch at Alexander Field is set for 4 p.m. ET. The victory gives Notre Dame a record of 20-9 on the season and 12-6 in ACC play and earns the team the No. 5 seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament. The Irish head into the postseason winners of seven of their last eight games. Hidalgo turned in another masterclass, scoring a game-high 30 points on 9-of-13 shooting. The junior did everything for the Irish, leading the team in rebounds (10), assists (7) and steals (5). Hidalgo now has three games this season with at least 30 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. The rest of the players in the country at the women’s DI level have combined for just two games with that stat line. Three other Notre Dame players finished in double figures in the scoring column, as Vanessa de Jesus scored 14 points, Iyana Moore recorded 11 and Malaya Cowles added 10. HOW IT HAPPENED The defenses from both sides dictated play for much of the first quarter as both teams struggled to find any rhythm on the offensive end of the court. Louisville managed to hold a five-point lead at 12-7 after the opening 10 minutes of action. The Notre Dame defense pressured the Cardinals into eight turnovers in the first frame, four coming from steals. Notre Dame’s offense erupted in the second quarter, scoring 29 points off 9-of-14 shooting, including a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the arc. The hosts scored the first two points to increase their lead to seven at 14-7 before de Jesus and Moore connected on back-to-back threes to trim the lead to just one. After a made jumper from the Cardinals pushed the lead back up to three, Hidalgo went on a personal 8-0 run to give the Irish their first lead of the day at 21-16 midway through the second stanza. Louisville hit a three-pointer to cut the Irish lead to two before the Irish went on a 10-0 run, spurred by two more three-point makes from de Jesus and Moore to push the lead to 12 at 31-19. Both sides scored five more points in the half, as the Irish took a 36-24 lead into the halftime break. Hidalgo and de Jesus did much of the heavy lifting on the offensive end in the first half, each scoring 14 points. Louisville scored the first six points on the other side of the halftime intermission to cut the Irish lead in half at 36-30. Notre Dame steadied and managed to push the lead back to 10 at 45-35 with 3 minutes left in the third. The Cardinals refused to go away, scoring eight straight in less than a minute of action to make it just a two-point game with 58 seconds left in the quarter. After made jumpers from both sides Hidalgo banked in a three at the buzzer to put the Irish on top 50-45 heading into the fourth and final frame. Hidalgo opened the fourth quarter with a layup to make it a seven-point game in favor of Notre Dame. Louisville then scored 15 of the next 19 points over a four-minute span to go on top by a score of 60-56 with 4:59 remaining in the game. On the bench with four fouls, Hidalgo checked back into the contest and completely swung the momentum. The guard knocked down a jumper to cut the lead in half before Cowles had a put back to level the game at 60-60. Hidalgo then converted an and-one jumper and made the ensuing free throw to put the Irish back in front at 63-60 with 2 minutes left in the fourth. After Louisville made two free throws to cut the Irish lead to one at 63-62 with a minute left Hidalgo made the play of the game on the defensive end of the floor. The Cardinals had the ball and a chance to take the lead with under 20 seconds left in the contest and Hidalgo picked the Louisville player’s pocket with the steal and raced down to take precious seconds off the clock. After a number of fouls from Louisville, Hidalgo made two free throws to make the score 65-62 with 9 seconds remaining. After turnovers from both teams Louisville had one last gasp to tie it but the three-point attempt was off the mark as the Irish pulled out a huge ranked road win in thrilling fashion by a score of 65-62. NOTRE DAME STAT OF THE GAME The Fighting Irish hit seven-straight shots from three-point range between the final minute of the first quarter and the entire second quarter. The sharpshooting was led by de Jesus, who buried four of the seven in the stretch for Notre Dame. Moore recorded two makes and Hidalgo added one. NOTRE DAME NOTES The Irish improved to 23-15 against Louisville in the all-time series. Notre Dame has registered at least 12 wins in ACC play and 20 wins on the season in five consecutive seasons. With 30 points, Hidalgo has scored 30+ points in nine games this season and 18 games in her career, which is the program record. Hidalgo set the single-season record for steals with 162, breaking her own record of 160 which she previously held from her freshman year. Hidalgo has finished in double figures in the scoring column in all 96 games of her career, the longest streak in program history. With four makes from three-point range, de Jesus tied her career high for threes in a game. UP NEXT The Irish begin the postseason with the ACC Tournament at Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia. Notre Dame will open the tourney as the No. 5 seed and will take on the winner of the No. 12 vs. No. 13 matchup. Notre Dame’s second-round game is slated to tip at 1:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 5 and will air on ACCN. ===================================================================== NOTRE DAME BASEBALL IRISH OFFENSE CONTINUES TO ROLL IN WIN OVER GOLDEN EAGLES COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Notre Dame baseball team posted their third-consecutive run-rule win with an 11-0 (8 innings) victory over Tennessee Tech on Sunday afternoon. Ty Uber was in control of the strike zone and the Golden Eagles’ bats on Sunday. The righty forced the Tennessee Tech batters into stranding a runner in the first and the third as the Golden Eagles managed just a walk and a single through three innings. The defense backed up Uber in the bottom of the fourth with a 6-4-3 double play as the game remained scoreless heading into the fifth. Jayce Lee led off the top of the fifth with a single, and Parker Brzustewicz went the other way with a single to put runners on the corners for the Irish. Baffa’s five innings and six strikeouts both marked career highs. He achieved his first collegiate victory. Kruse nailed down his second career save and first of the season. Up Next The Beacons (5-5) will head back to the state of Alabama next weekend for a three-game set with Jacksonville State that begins on Friday at 6 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ala. =================================================================== SMALL INDIANA COLLEGE SPORTS WEB SITES UINDY ATHLETICS: https://athletics.uindy.edu/ MARIAN ATHLETICS: https://muknights.com/ INDIANA WESLEYAN ATHLETICS: https://iwuwildcats.com/ EARLHAM ATHLETICS: https://goearlham.com/ WABASH ATHLETICS: https://sports.wabash.edu/ FRANKLIN ATHLETICS: https://franklingrizzlies.com/ ROSE-HULMAN ATHLETICS: https://athletics.rose-hulman.edu/ ANDERSON ATHLETICS: https://athletics.anderson.edu/landing/index TRINE ATHLETICS: https://trinethunder.com/landing/index BETHEL ATHLETICS: https://bupilots.com/ DEPAUW ATHLETICS: https://depauwtigers.com/ HANOVER ATHLETICS: https://athletics.hanover.edu/ MANCHESTER ATHLETICS: https://muspartans.com/ HUNTINGTON ATHLETICS: https://www.huathletics.com/ OAKLAND CITY ATHLETICS: https://gomightyoaks.com/index.aspx ST. The ‘Sultan of Swat,’ who had asked for $100,000, meets Colonel Jacob Ruppert at the owner’s brewery in the Yorkville section of Manhattan to finalize the historic deal. 1966 Commissioner William Eckert, citing a rule prohibiting clubs from signing players during their collegiate season, voids the Braves’ contract with USC standout Tom Seaver, who had signed with Atlanta for a $50,000 bonus a week earlier. The Mets will be awarded the future Hall of Famer’s signing rights in a lottery that includes the Phillies and Indians, who also were willing to match the Braves’ terms. 1989 “When he punched Keith Hernandez in spring training last season, it was the only time that Darryl Strawberry hit the cutoff man.” – STEVE WULF, Sports Illustrated journalist. At a photo session, Mets’ outfielder Darryl Strawberry throws a punch at Keith Hernandez, the team’s no-nonsense All-Star first baseman. The spring training scuffle started over comments about salaries, resulting in Straw walking out of camp. 1992 The highest-paid player tag now belongs to Cubs second baseman Ryne Sandberg, when the All-Star infielder signs a four-year contract extension worth 7.1 million dollars per season. The future Hall of Famer will unexpectedly retire during the season in 1994, walking away from nearly $15.8 million from the record deal he inked today. 1995 “Cleveland got the better of the deals. They didn’t get anybody.” – DAVEY JOHNSON, Reds’ manager. The Indians send Mike Curtis, Barbaro Garbey, Lee Granger, and Dave Gray to the Reds for “future considerations.” The transaction, which helps Cincinnati add much-needed players to their roster, marks the first trade of replacement players during a baseball strike. 2001 Rusty Greer, now the Rangers’ new leadoff hitter due to the A-Rod deal, signs a $21.8 million, three-year contract extension with Texas. The .307 career-hitting outfielder could make $36 million with incentives and options. 2005 Wearing their regular-season home uniforms instead of the traditional batting-practice spring training jerseys, the Nationals, in their first game ever, beat the Mets in the exhibition opener at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Florida, 5-3. The Expos’ first and last games were against the Mets before leaving Montreal for their new home in Washington, D.C. 2005 In a Capitol Rotunda ceremony, with legislators from the House and Senate and baseball commissioner Bud Selig in attendance, President George W. Bush awards the nation’s highest honor to Jackie Robinson, the Congressional Gold Medal. Rachel, the widow of the courageous ballplayer, accepts the award posthumously for her husband, who died in 1972. 2005 With hundreds of Red Sox Nation citizens in attendance on the south lawn, President George W. Bush praises the team spirit and winning style of the 2004 World Champions during a White House ceremony. Fall Classic hero and Bush supporter Curt Schilling gives the former owner of the Texas Rangers a white baseball jersey emblazoned with the forty-third Chief Executive’s name and the number 43. 2007 Michael Young signs an $80 million, five-year contract extension offered by the Rangers. The deal, which keeps the three-time All-Star shortstop with Texas through the 2013 season, is the second-largest in franchise history, eclipsed only by the $252 million, 10-year deal Alex Rodriguez free-agent signing in December 2000. 2007 A chartered bus accident at Interstate 75 and Northside Drive in Atlanta kills five Bluffton University baseball players, the driver, and his wife. The players, Zach Arend, David Betts, Scott Harmon, Cody Holp, and Tyler Williams, were en route to Sarasota, Florida, to play a twin bill with Eastern Mennonite University before participating in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers. 2010 At Tokyo Dome, South Korea beats Taiwan, 2-0, in the first-ever World Baseball Classic game. A sparse crowd of 5,193 gathers at 11:30 am to watch former major leaguer Jae-Weong Seo toss two-hit ball, and 36-year-old Yankee reliever Chan Ho Park works three effective innings for a save to start the 16-nation tournament. 2012 In the first change to the MLB playoff structure since the introduction of wild-card teams in 1995, a new one-game, a wild-card game between the teams with the best records in each league, which are not division winners, will become the initial round of the postseason. The new postseason system, which would have allowed the Red Sox and the Braves to avoid their historical collapses last season, increases the reward of winning a division title but opens the door to the possibility of a third-place team winning the World Series. 2018 Playing in his first baseball game since 2011, when he was in the Colorado Rockies organization, Seahawks’ NFL quarterback Russell Wilson, pinch-hitting for right fielder Aaron Judge, strikes out on a 2-2 fastball thrown by Braves’ southpaw Max Fried. The Super Bowl-winning QB’s (Seahawks, 2014) appearance in the bottom of the fifth inning is a surprise as the Yankees announced that he would not play in a spring training game. ================================================================== TODAY IN SPORTS HISTORY On March 2 in … 1874 – Baseball batter’s box is officially adopted. 1890 – Oscar Fredriksen skates world record 5 km (9:19). 1896 – George Lohmann takes 9-28 versus South Africa in cricket at Johannesburg. 1898 – Australia complete a 4-1 cricket series annihilation of England. 1902 – Jimmy Collins leaves Boston Beaneaters (National League) club to manage American League’s new Boston Somersets. 1904 – “Official Playing Rules of Professional Base Ball Clubs” is adopted. 1918 – New York Yankees purchase 1st baseman George Burns from Detroit Tigers and immediately trades him to Philadelphia Athletics. 1927 – Babe Ruth becomes highest paid baseball player ($70,000 per year). 1929 – Chicago Black Hawks are shut-out for NHL record 8th straight game. 1936 – Donald Bradman scores 369 in 253 minutes, South Africa versus Tasmania, 46 fours 4 sixes. 1940 – First intercollegiate track meet telecast, Madison Square Garden, New York City. 1951 – First NBA All-Star Game: East beats West 111-94 at Boston. 1952 – Marlene Hagge wins LPGA Sarasota Golf Open. 1958 – Marilynn Smith wins LPGA Jacksonville Golf Open. 1962 – Wilt Chamberlain scores incredible 100 points in an NBA game. 1968 – World Ice Dance Championship in Geneva, Switzerland won by Diane Towler and Bernard Ford (Great Britain). 1968 – World Ice Pairs Figure Skating Championship in Geneva, Switzerland won by Lyudmila Belousova and Oleg Protopopov (USSR). 1968 – World Ladies Figure Skating Championship in Geneva, Switzerland won by Peggy Fleming (USA). 1968 – World Men’s Figure Skating Championship in Geneva, Switzerland won by Emmerich Danzer (Austria). 1969 – Phil Esposito becomes first NHL Player to score 100 points in a season. 1974 – Greg Chappell makes 247 versus New Zealand, 410 minutes, 29 fours 1 six. 1980 – Jan Stephenson wins LPGA Sun City Golf Classic. 1980 – Mike Bratz (Phoenix Suns) ends NBA free throw streak of 57 games. 1982 – 60th hat trick in New York Islanders’ history-Bryan Trottier. 1986 – Mary Beth Zimmerman wins Uniden LPGA Golf Invitational. 1989 – NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers win 22nd straight home game. 1989 – New York Mets’ Darryl Strawberry swings at teammate Keith Hernandez. 1990 – Mark Tewsksbury swims world record 50 metre backstroke (25.06 seconds). 1991 – Deb Richard wins LPGA Women’s Kemper Golf Open. 1991 – Del Ballard Junior, throws most famous gutter ball in PBA Tour history. 1991 – North Carolina State Chris Corchiani becomes first NCAA player to get 1,000 assists. 1992 – Anita Hall swims female world record 200 metre freestyle (2:05.35). 1992 – The highest-paid player in baseball is now Ryne Sandberg, after signing a four-year contract extension worth US$7.1 million per season. 1996 – Tendulkar scores 137 for India versus SL in Cricket World Cup, but still lose. 1997 – Gail Graham wins LPGA Alpine Australian Ladies Masters. 1997 – Nick Faldo wins Nissan Golf Open. 2005 – President George W.
