BUTLER HOSTS PFL LEADER DRAKE ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON

GAME 9: Butler (5-3, 3-1 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE) vs. Drake (5-2, 4-0 PFL)

LAST WEEK: Butler had its bye week last week. In the week prior, Butler defeated Dayton 23-17 handing the Flyers their first conference loss of the season. Reagan Andrew was spectacular for the Bulldogs once again accounting for 334 yards of total offense. Andrew completed 18-of-23 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns while adding 78 yards on the ground. Ethan Loss and Archie Cox led the way on the receiving end for the Dawgs as Loss tallied 93 yards on three catches while Cox added 89 yards on three catches. Tyson Garrett paced the defense with seven total tackles on the day, three of which were tackles for loss.

THE SERIES: This will be the 26th meeting between the two programs dating back to 2000 and Drake leads the all-time series 20-5. Butler’s last win over Drake was a 20-13 victory in 2015.

ONE YEAR AGO: Andrew accounted for 255 total yards against Drake a year ago. The signal caller had 174 yards in the air and 81 yards on the ground. Loss had eight catches for 86 yards in the contest. Adam Sturtz led the Bulldogs defensive efforts with 10 total tackles in the contest. Butler fell to Drake 27-17.

HOW IT STANDS: Drake is currently undefeated and in first place in the PFL heading into the weekend matchup. Butler, Dayton and Presbyterian all follow closely behind with one conference loss each.

BULLDOG BLITZ: 

The Bulldogs are 17-5 when playing at the Sellick Bowl since the beginning of the 2022 season. 

The Bulldogs rank first nationally in time of possession averaging 34:12 minutes of possession per game. 

Butler quarterback, Andrew, was stellar for BU in its win over Dayton accumulating 334 total yards in the contest. The redshirt junior completed 18-of-23 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown while adding 78 yards on the ground.

Loss and Cox led the way on the receiving end for the Dawgs as Loss tallied 93 yards on three catches while Cox added 89 yards on three catches.

Garrett led the defensive efforts for BU with seven total tackles on the day three of which were tackles for loss.

Jeremiah Jackson paces the defense with 45 tackles on the season to go with three PBU’s.

Will Mason is second on the squad in tackles with 43 to his credit and leads the team in interceptions with two.

BU leads the PFL and is 11th nationally in FCS for blocked kicks, tallying three on the season. Butler also ranks first in the PFL and fifth nationally in fewest penalties per game, averaging 4.00. 

Butler was picked fourth in the 2025 Pioneer Football League Preseason Coaches’ Poll. 

Jeremiah Jackson and Danny Orgler represent Butler on the 2025 Preseason All-PFL Team. 

Butler added 29 newcomers to the 2025 roster, including transfers from Ball State, Idaho, Toledo and Tulane.

SCOUTING DRAKE:

Drake enters Saturday’s contest with a 5-2 record after defeating Marist 31-17 last weekend.

The Bulldogs are averaging 31.29 points per game while limiting their opponents to 17.0 ppg.

Drake has 1,356 rushing yards on the season and has recorded 1,317 passing yards in seven games.

Nick Herman and Logan Inagawa pace the Bulldog offense on the ground with 381 rushing yards and 285 rushing yards, respectively. Jackson Voth leads the squad in receiving yards with 396 to his credit on 33 catches.

Inagawa has played in six of the Bulldogs seven games thus far and boasts a 71.1 completion percentage. The freshman has tossed for 742 yards and seven touchdowns while throwing only three interceptions.

Sean Allison and J.R. Flood lead the Drake defense with 38 and 36 total tackles each.

Garrison Codde had a team-high five pass breakups to his credit on the season.

WHAT LIES AHEAD

Butler will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 8 as BU travels to Morehead, Ky. to face Morehead State. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. A link to live stats and a live stream for the contest will be available on Butlersports.com.
