NFL GAME CAPSULES
Cleveland Browns (5-2) at Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Steelers -3.5, Total 39.5
Series Rewind: Cleveland has won the last two and four of the last six in the AFC North rivalry. However, the Browns haven’t won in Pittsburgh since 2003, losing their last 22 regular-season games there, and the Steelers comfortably lead the all-time series 83-66-1 (including 2-1 in the postseason).
One day after Halloween, the Cleveland Browns will enter their own version of a House of Horrors when they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers this week. They already have a win over Pittsburgh this season, though, 27-24 on a late Andre Szmyt field goal on Oct. 1 and have won five of their last six games to hold the tiebreaker atop the division. Deshaun Watson threw for a season-high 308 yards last week in a 27-24 win at the Titans, which also came on a game-winning kick from Szmyt, this one as time expired. That win improved Cleveland to 5-1 in one-score games this season, but Pittsburgh isn’t lagging far behind at 4-1 in one-score games. Aaron Rodgers, who threw for 299 yards, three touchdowns and two picks in the first Browns matchup, surpassed Peyton Manning with his 540th career touchdown pass (third all-time) in Pittsburgh’s 16-10 defeat of New Orleans last week in France. Rodgers has thrown 13 touchdowns this season along with five interceptions, already approaching the seven he had in his first season with the Steelers.
Atlanta Falcons (3-4) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-5)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Buccaneers -2.5, Total 44.5
Series Rewind: The all-time regular-season count between NFC South rivals stands at 33-32 in favor of the Falcons. Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles is 3-6 all-time against Atlanta.
Falcons running back Bijan Robinson was held largely in check by the Chicago Bears but has been a major headache in his career against the Bucs. He went for 175 total yards in the last meeting with Tampa in December 2025 and has more than 100 yards from scrimmage in three consecutive games vs. the Bucs. Tampa’s defense isn’t flawless, but newfound pressure off the edge was a big boost last week. Yaya Diaby had career-high 3.0 sacks last week in a 43-13 victory at Carolina, where Tampa found more balance. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has shaken off a thumb injury and running back Bucky Irving produced his first two-TD game in Week 7. Mayfield has 18 total touchdowns (17 passing) in seven career starts against the Falcons, with at least two TD passes in each of the past five meetings.
Tennessee Titans (1-6) at Cincinnati Bengals (4-2)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Bengals -12.5, Total 46.5
Series Rewind: The Bengals have won three of the past four meetings, most recently a 37-27 victory in 2024. Joe Burrow threw for 271 yards with three TD passes.
Joe Burrow leads NFL with a 71.7% completion rate, he’s second in passer rating (110.4), third in TD passes (15) and has the backing of a stubborn defense helping guide the team’s rebound from a disappointing 2025 finish. The Bengals’ defense is second in the league with 21 sacks. The Titans have spent most of this season in comeback mode, which puts quarterback Cam Ward under the gun all too often. Running back Tony Pollard had a huge effort with 129 yards rushing and three TD runs in a last-play loss to Cleveland in Week 7. Cincinnati’s running game might benefit from a surprise subtraction at the heart of the Tennessee defense. Jeffery Simmons, a havoc-wreaking interior pass rusher, was traded to the Bears midweek. He was the anchor on a Tennessee defense that is 26th in the NFL against the run (131.1 yards per game).
Indianapolis Colts (2-5) at Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Jaguars -9.5, Total 46.5
Series Rewind: Indianapolis leads the all-time series 28-22 but has lost five of the last six to the Jaguars and hasn’t won in Jacksonville since 2014.
The Colts, who have lost 11 straight games in Jacksonville, may be facing a Jaguars team that appears poised to run away with the AFC South at a bad time amidst Indianapolis’ current turmoil. A week after firing longtime general manager Chris Ballard, the Colts traded defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and guard Quenton Nelson this week, signaling a potential midseason fire sale. Leading receiver Josh Downs (team-high 307 yards this season) also reportedly requested a trade Wednesday, but Indianapolis coach Shane Steichen told reporters that star running back Jonathan Taylor hasn’t yet requested a trade. Indianapolis brings a three-game losing streak to Jacksonville, which is the only team in the division better than 2-5. The Jaguars are coming off a bye week refreshed after a 1-1 stint in London which included a win over the Eagles and a loss to the Texans, both on last-second field goals. Jacksonville has the look of a complete team, ranking third in the NFL in scoring defense (17.3 points allowed per game), tied for seventh in scoring offense (25.7 ppg) and tied for third in turnover margin (plus-5). Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 14 touchdowns, tied for fifth in the league, with four of the five ahead of him having played more games.
Arizona Cardinals (2-5) at Dallas Cowboys (3-4)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Cowboys -6.5, Total 54.5
Series Rewind: The Cardinals have won four straight meetings and eight of nine since 2008. In Week 9 last season in Arlington, Arizona had three takeaways in a 27-17 victory on “Monday Night Football.”
The Cardinals are 0-5 when they allow 17 or more points this season and the Cowboys are coming off a season-high 38-point performance in Monday’s win at Philadelphia. Look for both teams to air it out, as Arizona’s Jacoby Brissett led the NFL with 282 pass attempts entering Week 8 and Dallas’ Dak Prescott was tied for third with 273. The Cowboys also proved they could run the ball with 204 yards on the ground against the Eagles, with a career-high 155 from Javonte Williams. Arizona’s Trey McBride became just the second tight end under the age of 27 to reach 400 career catches, joining Dallas legend Jason Witten. CeeDee Lamb had two TD grabs against Philly and needs one more to tie Hall of Famer Drew Pearson (48) for seventh place in Cowboys history. Dallas is on a shorter week but Arizona looks like the more banged-up team, starting the week with 15 players either not practicing or doing so on a limited basis on Wednesday.
Las Vegas Raiders (3-4) at New York Jets (2-5)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Jets -1.5, Total 45.5
Series Rewind: These teams combined for 28 points when they last played in 2023, a 16-12 win for the Raiders. Las Vegas has been victorious in four of the past five meetings.
If you had a matchup of 2012 fourth-rounder Kirk Cousins (Raiders) and former Raiders starter Geno Smith, a second-rounder in 2013, on your bingo card, hats off to you. The old guard is front and under center on Sunday and there is pressure mounting to produce. The Jets lost to the previous winless Dolphins last week and head coach Aaron Glenn is now 5-19 in two seasons in New York, where grace and patience aren’t known to be virtues of pro sports fans. After a 3-0 start, the Raiders are in a nosedive with four consecutive losses under first-year coach Klint Kubiak. Of course, Kubiak is likely to have more runway to get the Raiders pointed in the right direction. That’s not necessarily the case for Cousins, but the plotline of No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza debuting on Broadway was put to bed for now by the franchise this week. It’s difficult to place the losses on Cousins. He is tied for the league lead in TD passes (16) and is fourth in passing yards (1,877). Red-zone issues and continued indecisiveness from running back Ashton Jeanty are among the challenges facing the Raiders. The Jets can hardly pin their poor showings on Smith, either. He’s completed 70% of his passes for 1,623 yards with 10 TDs and two INTs. The lack of a ground game without Breece Hall has been a hindrance.
Minnesota Vikings (6-0) at Detroit Lions (4-2)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Lions -3.5, Total 46.5
Series Rewind: Last season, the Vikings swept the NFC North-rival Lions for the first time since the 2020 season. They won 27-24 in Detroit in Week 9 and 23-10 in Minneapolis on Christmas Day in Week 17.
The NFL’s last unbeaten team, the Vikings can improve to 7-0 for the fifth time in franchise history (1973, 1975, 1998 and 2000). It’s a matchup of Detroit’s No. 2 scoring offense (30.7 points per game) and Minnesota’s No. 1 scoring defense (12.3 per game). Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson enters his 100th game with 8,782 yards, trailing only Julio Jones (9,618) and Hall of Famer Lance Alworth (9,019) in NFL history to that point in a career. With 1,788 yards, Lions star Jared Goff could become only the fourth QB to reach 2,000 yards before throwing his first interception: Patrick Mahomes (2019), Alex Smith (2017), Bernie Kosar (1991). With 593 catches in 89 games, Detroit’s Amon-Ra St. Brown is set to become the fastest to 600 catches in league history. Cooper Kupp, Keenan Allen and Antonio Brown are tied at 96 games. The Vikings rank No. 1 in the NFL in turnover margin (plus-seven) and the Lions have turned the ball over only three times this season.
Baltimore Ravens (4-3) at Buffalo Bills (5-1)
Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
FanDuel: Bills -3. Total: 54.5
Series Rewind: Buffalo has won four of the past five meetings with two of those coming in the postseason. One was the 27-25 victory in the divisional round on Jan. 19, 2025, a game best remembered for Baltimore’s Mark Andrews dropping a two-point conversion throw with 1:33 left. The Bills also scored a 17-3 win in a divisional-round matchup on Jan. 16, 2021 when Taron Johnson intercepted Lamar Jackson and took it 101 yards for a touchdown.
Jackson could return to the field after missing the past three games with a left ankle injury. If Baltimore has the two-time MVP, it could be another wild contest like the 2025 season opener between the teams when the Bills scored 16 unanswered points in the final 3:56 for a 41-40 victory. Bills quarterback Josh Allen, the 2024 MVP, passed for 394 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for two scores. Jackson passed for 209 yards and two touchdowns and added 70 yards and one score on the ground. This season, Baltimore averaged 29 points during Jackson’s four starts and that number dipped to 17.7 during three starts with backup Tyler “Snoop” Huntley. The Ravens are 1-2 under Huntley, didn’t score a single second-half point over the past two games and gave up five second-half touchdowns during a 35-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last week. Baltimore star running back Derrick Henry (sixth in NFL with 579 rushing yards) pointed the finger at himself after rushing for just 45 yards on 17 carries against Cincinnati. He said he needs to pick up his leadership. Allen always earns high marks for leadership and he’ll look to keep the Bills churning after a bye week. Buffalo has topped 30 points four times and leads the NFL in scoring offense (32.8 points per game) and stands fourth in total offense (387.7 yards per game). Interestingly, Allen has thrown just nine touchdown passes this season and is tied for the NFL lead with eight rushing scores. James Cook III ranks third in rushing (627 yards) but leads all running backs with four fumbles.
Los Angeles Chargers (0-6) at Los Angeles Rams (3-4)
Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Rams -6.5, Total 45.5
Series Rewind: The Rams lead the all-time series 7-6. This will be just the second time they have faced off since both teams moved into SoFi Stadium (the Chargers won 31-10 in 2023) and the third matchup since both teams relocated back to Los Angeles.
The Super Bowl will return to the Los Angeles area in February, and if the current NFL standings are any indication, neither team that calls SoFi Stadium home is expected to be on hand for the festivities. The Rams at least have a smidge of momentum, coming off a season-high 35 points in their win over the Raiders to inch closer to .500. While quarterback Matthew Stafford’s 1,989 passing yards led the league entering Thursday, the two-headed running back monster of Kyren Williams (492 yards, five TDs) and Blake Corum (316 yards, two TDs) have added to the offensive outburst. Stafford, with his three touchdown passes last week, became the all-time Rams leader in touchdown passes (155) and is the first player to hold the franchise career passing TDs record for multiple teams (282 for the Lions). The Chargers have much less to celebrate. While on their bye week, Miami won last week, leaving the Chargers as the last winless NFL team. Quarterback Justin Herbert, not far removed from consideration as a rising star in the league, has struggled behind an offensive line which started four rookies in the team’s most recent 22-6 loss to the Chiefs. Herbert has thrown an interception in every game this season, with eight against five touchdowns. The Chargers are last in the NFL with 15.0 points per game. The defense that was so strong a year ago is allowing 123.8 rushing yards per contest (21st in the NFL) and 25.2 points (22nd).
Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) at Denver Broncos (5-2)
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
FanDuel: Chiefs -1.5. Total: 40.5
Series Rewind: Denver beat the Chiefs three consecutive times and four of five before getting drilled 31-10 on Monday Night Football to open the season. Before the Broncos’ recent success, Kansas City defeated Denver 16 straight times, a streak that began with the Chiefs bottling up Peyton Manning in a 29-13 victory over Nov. 15, 2015. Manning was 5-of-20 passing for 35 yards and four interceptions before being pulled in favor of Brock Osweiler.
The two longtime AFC West rivals are battling for first place in the division. The Chiefs took their first loss of the season last week when they fell 20-3 to the host Seattle Seahawks. That has given the Broncos the opportunity to move atop the division if they can win a fourth consecutive game. One of Denver’s victories during the stretch was a 17-14 home overtime decision against the Seahawks. Quarterback Bo Nix passed for 222 yards in last week’s 30-16 road victory over the Arizona Cardinals. It marks Nix’s second-highest yardage output of the season. Nix also scored on a 62-yard run, the longest scoring run by a quarterback in Broncos’ history. Denver wideout Jaylen Waddle (chest) reaggravated an injury late against the Cardinals and his status is something to watch. The Chiefs will try to bounce back from a performance in which they had just 213 yards. Patrick Mahomes passed for a season-worst 165 yards while running back Kenneth Walker III had a season-low 36 yards and 2.6 yards per carry. Walker topped 100 yards in four of Kansas City’s first five games. Mahomes has gone consecutive games without a touchdown pass after firing nine in the first four games of the season. The Chiefs have allowed 10 or fewer points in three of their victories and they would like to replicate their Week 1 effort. Kansas City held the Broncos to 176 yards with Nix throwing for 131 while being sacked four times. Walker rushed for 173 yards, including a 60-yard TD.
New England Patriots (4-3) at Miami Dolphins (1-5)
Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET
FanDuel: Patriots -7 Total: 43.5
Series Rewind: New England has won the past two meetings — both last season — after the Dolphins won eight of the previous nine. The Patriots scored more than 17 points just once in those eight setbacks. Things changed last season with New England putting up 38 and 33 points in the two wins.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has topped 300 yards in two of the past three games and has thrown 12 touchdown passes over the last four outings after having just one passing score over the first three games. He completed a season-high 77.4% of his passes in a 30-24 road loss to the Chicago Bears on Oct. 22.
New England won its previous three games when it averaged 33.3 points. Not a single Patriots player has 300 receiving yards but five have more than 200, led by tight end Hunter Henry (296). He had season-bests of seven catches and 71 yards against Chicago. New England linebacker Elijah Ponder is breaking out as a second-year pro and has a team-best 5.5 sacks. The Dolphins are fresh off their first victory of the season as they recorded a 28-25 road win over the New York Jets. Running back Ollie Gordon II had 103 yards for his second 100-yard rushing output in three games. He had 88 yards in the other contest. Gordon has 339 rushing yards with four touchdowns and has quickly softened the loss of De’Von Achane (season-ending ACL tear). Miami hasn’t been opportunistic as it has just five takeaways (four interceptions, one fumble) and it also has produced an NFL-low six sacks. Another ugly stat is that the Dolphins have allowed opponents to complete a stunning 76.6% of their passes. No other team has allowed 70%. On the offensive side, Miami ranks 30th in passing at 162.0 yards per game. Malik Willis has completed just 57.6% of his throws with four touchdowns against four interceptions.
Philadelphia Eagles (2-5) at Washington Commanders (1-4-1)
Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Commanders -5.5, Total 40.5
Series Rewind: The Eagles began 2026 with a 24-22 home win vs. the Commanders, with Jalen Hurts throwing three TD passes and Philadelphia stopping Washington’s two-point conversion with 1:01 to play.
The NFC East rivals were a combined 0-6-1 during the month of October. Washington is coming off a bye week and hasn’t won since Sept. 27. Philadelphia is coming off a Monday night loss at home against Dallas and hasn’t won since Sept. 20. The Eagles are trying to avoid their first six-game losing streak since an eight-game skid in Andy Reid’s final season as head coach in 2012. Both teams have dealt with defensive lapses. Only Arizona (29.7) is giving up more points per game than Washington (28.7). The Commanders also have the NFL’s worst red-zone defense, allowing TDs on 18 of their opponents’ 22 trips. Philadelphia is tied with Indianapolis for the fewest takeaways (three) and is the only team that hasn’t recovered a fumble. Only Miami (six) has fewer sacks than the Eagles (eight), and the Dolphins have played one fewer game. Three of Philadelphia’s biggest weapons on offense are dealing with injuries: Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks all missed practice to begin the short week.
Chicago Bears (5-2) at Seattle Seahawks (4-3)
Monday, 8:15 p.m. ET
FanDuel odds: Seahawks -3, Total 46.5
Series Rewind: The Seahawks beat the Bears 6-3 on Dec. 26, 2024, and lead the all-time series 12-6.
All of a sudden one of the matchups of the game is left guard Quenton Nelson and defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. The Seahawks acquired Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts and plugged the 30-year-old into a line in need of a boost. Left tackle Charles Cross (Achilles) is hurting, and the critical factor for the offense has been limiting the heat on quarterback Sam Darnold. Nelson gets a chance to tangle with Simmons, acquired by the Bears from the Titans this week, a matchup he’s infinitely familiar with from their time in the AFC South. They squared off on Oct. 18 when the Titans beat the Colts, 26-20. The Bears have won their past two games since quarterback Caleb Williams returned from a hamstring injury. Williams went 30 of 36 for 305 yards and a touchdown in a 31-23 victory Oct. 18 at Atlanta, and he was 22 of 33 for 308 yards and two TDs in a 30-24 win Oct. 22 over visiting New England. Williams and the Bears will be going up against a Seattle defense that didn’t allow quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs to reach the red zone last Sunday night. The Seahawks prevailed 20-3 to snap a two-game skid.

NBA ROUNDUP: LEBRON JAMES DELIVERS LATE AS SIXERS GET BY KNICKS
LeBron James converted a key putback and finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists as the Philadelphia 76ers edged the visiting New York Knicks 98-93 on Friday.
On a night when all NBA games were the teams’ openers in NBA Cup play, Philadelphia was without Jaylen Brown (knee), giving Anfernee Simons an opportunity to shine in an expanded role. Simons scored 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Tyrese Maxey led the Sixers with 27 points, while VJ Edgecombe hit a clutch 3-pointer and finished with 13 points. The Sixers have won five of their first six games.
New York, meanwhile, has lost four of its first six, including two defeats against Philadelphia. Jalen Brunson scored 24 points on 8-of-22 shooting, while Karl-Anthony Towns recorded 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Knicks.
Brunson’s 3-pointer with 1:32 left gave New York a 90-89 lead. James answered with a tough fadeaway on the other end to put the Sixers back in front. Following a Brunson miss, Edgecombe beat the shot-clock buzzer with a 3-pointer to make it 94-90. Brunson split two free throws to make it a one-possession game before James put back Maxey’s airball with 11.9 seconds remaining.
Warriors 112, Lakers 95
Stephen Curry poured in 31 points, the bench chipped in 50 more, and Golden State exacted a measure of revenge for an opening-night loss with a triumph over Los Angeles in San Francisco.
Coming off a 44-point performance, Curry buried eight of his 14 attempts from 3-point range as the Warriors overcame a 25-point deficit. Brandin Podziemski finished with four 3-pointers and 21 points, while De’Anthony Melton (16 points) and George Niang (11) made key contributions off the bench as the Warriors won their third straight after an 0-3 start.
Luka Doncic, whose 21 first-quarter points ignited the Lakers’ fast start, connected on six 3-pointers en route to his game-high total of 37. He also had seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Austin Reaves added 21 points, while fellow starters Jake LaRavia, Walker Kessler and Matisse Thybulle each scored 10.
Mavericks 116, Rockets 111
Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg combined for 68 points, and Dallas erased an 11-point second-half deficit to beat visiting Houston.
Irving posted 35 points on 12-for-19 shooting and nine assists. Flagg scored 33 points on 13-for-19 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds. The tandem totaled 27 points in the fourth quarter, with Irving drilling two 3-pointers early before Flagg sank a floater and converted the three-point play with 1:40 left to play, giving the Mavericks a 105-100 lead.
Flagg sank a turnaround jumper with 24.3 seconds left after Amen Thompson missed two free throws that would have tied the game with 42 seconds to play. Jabari Smith Jr. pulled the Rockets to within 109-108 with a 3-pointer, but Daniel Gafford answered with two free throws. Kevin Durant led Houston with 28 points. Smith added 22.
Celtics 125, Bulls 111
Payton Pritchard scored a season-high 30 points off the bench, Jayson Tatum added 26 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, and Boston defeated visiting Chicago.
Paul George had 18 points, six rebounds and eight assists for Boston, which led by as many as 32 points in the second quarter and won its fourth straight game after opening the season with a road loss to the Detroit Pistons. Neemias Queta scored 13 points, and Mitchell Robinson chipped in 11.
Caleb Wilson led Chicago with 23 points, including six 3-pointers. Norman Powell scored 16 points, Matas Buzelis added 14 and Josh Giddey had 13. The Bulls lost their fourth straight game while shooting 37.6% from the field and 30% (15 of 50) from 3-point range.
Pistons 110, Nets 94
Reserve Ronald Holland II sparked a dominant third quarter with 12 of his season-high 18 points for Detroit, which took control en route to a victory over winless Brooklyn in an NBA Cup game at New York.
Cade Cunningham scored a game-high 20 points for the Pistons, who have won two in a row. Duncan Robinson added 17 points.
Moritz Wagner finished with 16 points for the Nets, who are off to their second straight 0-5 start. Brooklyn committed 24 turnovers that led to 27 points.
Wizards 95, Hornets 79
Anthony Davis poured in 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Washington whipped visiting Charlotte.
Trae Young racked up 21 points and 2026 No. 1 overall draft pick AJ Dybantsa, making his NBA home debut, provided 17 points for the Wizards, who avenged a Monday loss at Charlotte.
Brandon Miller scored 19 points for the Hornets, who didn’t protect an early 10-point lead. Charlotte took 29 more field-goal attempts than Washington but converted only 30 of 101 (29.7%). The Wizards’ 38.9% shooting proved sufficient.
Magic 121, Raptors 114
Desmond Bane scored 28 points and Franz Wagner finished with 26 points and 11 assists to lead Orlando to a bounce-back win at Toronto.
Wendell Carter Jr. had 20 points and seven rebounds while Anthony Black finished with 17 points and 10 assists for the Magic, who lost 129-99 at Toronto on Wednesday.
Scottie Barnes paced the Raptors with a career-high 41 points on 19-of-34 shooting, adding five rebounds and five assists before fouling out. Immanuel Quickley totaled 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
Timberwolves 127, Clippers 101
LaMelo Ball scored 24 points and dished seven assists as Minnesota pulled away for a win over Los Angeles in Minneapolis.
Jaden McDaniels finished with 23 points, six rebounds and seven assists for Minnesota, which snapped a two-game skid. Bones Hyland added 19 points off the bench.
Darius Garland scored 24 points on 10-for-22 shooting to lead Los Angeles, which took its fourth loss in a row. Brook Lopez scored 13 points off the bench.
Heat 145, Pacers 125
Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded a triple-double with 31 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists to help Miami cruise past visiting Indiana.
Bam Adebayo added 27 points and nine rebounds while Klay Thompson scored 25 points and sank seven 3-pointers in the Heat’s first home win of the season.
Quenton Jackson led the Pacers with 24 points off the bench, and Andrew Nembhard logged 22 points and nine assists. Indiana took its third straight defeat.
Nuggets 127, Suns 120
Jamal Murray scored 39 points and made seven 3-pointers, Christian Braun had 29 points and a career-high seven 3-pointers, and Denver won at Phoenix.
Nikola Jokic had 18 points and 10 assists and finished three rebounds short of his second consecutive triple-double for the Nuggets, who swept their two-game trip.
Miles Bridges scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Devin Booker added 20 points for the Suns, who have lost three of four. Phoenix’s Dillon Brooks put up 22 points before he was ejected in the third quarter for kicking Murray in the groin while attempting a shot.

NHL
NHL ROUNDUP: ANTON LUNDELL’S FIRST HAT TRICK POWERS PANTHERS PAST JETS
Anton Lundell scored his first career hat trick and Seth Jones added one goal and two assists to lead the Florida Panthers to a 5-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night in Sunrise, Fla.
The Jets took their eighth loss in a row (0-6-2). The franchise record is 10, which has happened three times (2000, 1994 and 1980).
Sam Reinhart also had a goal and an assist for the Panthers, who have won three straight games, the past two against Winnipeg. Florida goalie Akira Schmid made 22 stops as he won his third consecutive start.
Kyle Connor and Morgan Barron scored for the Jets. Nico Daws, acquired last week from New Jersey, made his first start with Winnipeg and stopped 33 of 37 shots.
Devils 5, Golden Knights 2
Arseny Gritsyuk and Jack Hughes each scored twice as New Jersey defeated Vegas in Las Vegas.
Luke Hughes also scored for the Devils, who went 2-1-0 on a three-game road trip and have won five of their past six games (5-1-0). Connor Hellebuyck made 19 saves while improving to 2-0-0 with the Devils since being acquired from the Jets on Oct. 23.
Mark Stone and Ivan Barbashev scored 90 seconds apart late in the first period for the Golden Knights, who have lost four of their past five games (1-3-1). Adin Hill made 27 saves.
Flames 6, Kraken 2
Matt Coronato scored once in his first career four-point game, and Joel Farabee tallied a goal and two assists to lead host Calgary to a victory over Seattle.
Morgan Frost and Matvei Gridin each collected a goal and an assist while Aydar Suniev and Ryan Strome added single tallies for the Flames, who have won five of their past six games. Dustin Wolf made 20 saves.
Mackie Samoskevich had a goal and an assist, and Frederick Gaudreau also scored for the Kraken. Starting goaltender Philipp Grubauer was pulled after allowing four goals on 14 shots. Joey Daccord stopped 11 of 13 shots in relief.

GOLF
ANDREW NOVAK USES LATE RUN TO FORGE LEAD AT MEXICO OPEN
Andrew Novak went 5 under par over the final six holes on Friday to grab a three-shot lead halfway through the VidantaWorld Mexico Open in Vallarta, Mexico.
Novak posted a 10-under-par 61, the round of the tournament so far, to move to 14-under 128. Tied at 11 under are amateur Kihei Akina (second-round 64), Ben Griffin (67), Frenchman Matthieu Pavon (66), Belgium’s Adrien Dumont de Chassart (67) and Japan’s Kensei Hirata (68).
Gordon Sargent (65), Max Greyserman (67), Canadian Mackenzie Hughes (67) and Englishman Marco Penge (68) share seventh place at 10 under.
Novak was one of several players to eagle the par-4 13th hole, which played at just 296 yards Friday. He drove the green and converted a 12-foot eagle putt, then seized the lead from Griffin with three long birdie putts.
Novak drained a 17 1/2-footer at the par-3 15th, a 16 1/2-footer at No. 16 and a 21-footer at No. 18. Not too shabby for a player who has consistently ranked near the bottom of the PGA Tour in putting.
The 31-year-old said he has been using an old putter this fall after cycling through several newer options.
“I got very frustrated with that, every single week being told that there’s nothing wrong with my putting and then just being dead last,” said Novak, whose lone PGA Tour win came alongside Griffin at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event in 2025.
“So went in the closet and dug out a putter that I used for a long time back in the day. It’s rusted out, it’s old, but I know it works. I don’t know loft on it, I don’t know the lie on it, but for the last four tournaments I’ve done pretty well making putts. So I think maybe I was just overthinking some things and yeah, I’ve just gone back to hitting putts.”
Novak entered the tournament No. 89 in the FedEx Cup Fall points standings, and a win would vault him to a projected No. 53. The top 100 players at the end of the fall retain full status on tour, and finishing Nos. 51-60 grants players access to the first two signature events of 2027.
“Yeah, look, there’s a pretty bunched leaderboard,” Novak said. “I separated a little bit, but we’re halfway there, there’s so much golf to play. I’m going to have to go out and keep hitting a bunch of fairways. If I’m hitting my irons like this, I’m going to be able to give myself a lot of opportunities.”
Akina also eagled the short 13th hole with a 15-foot putt, and he drained another key putt from 28 1/2 feet away for birdie at No. 18.
Akina, 20, has gotten five starts on tour this season and made the cut at all five. Just this month, he placed ninth at the Bank of Utah Championship and tied for 17th at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
“I think I’m feeling more comfortable with each round played,” Akina said. “This is my first time going from an event to another event, so back to back, it’s a little bit different for me in that aspect. Yeah, I feel like every new tournament, every new round is a learning experience for me, and this one here was a really great experience for me so far.”
First-round leader Karl Vilips of Australia followed his red-hot round of 62 with a 3-over 74 to drop back to 6 under for the tournament, tied for 34th.
Defending champion Brian Campbell carded a 68 on Friday and is tied for 26th at 7 under.
Notable names in line to miss the 4-under-par cut line included Tony Finau (3 under), Canadian Taylor Pendrith (2 under), Wyndham Clark (even par) and Denmark’s Rasmus Hojgaard (even).

ZACH JOHNSON, IN LINE FOR SCHWAB CUP PUSH, LEADS IN LITTLE ROCK
With two tournaments to go in the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs, Zach Johnson is making his move.
Johnson, second to Stewart Cink in the season-long standings, shot an 8-under-par 64 on Friday to take the first-round lead at the Simmons Bank Championship in Little Rock, Ark.
Johnson holds a one-shot lead over Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, while tied for third at 6-under 66 are Michael Block, Australian Richard Green and New Zealand’s Steven Alker, the latter of whom is a two-time Schwab Cup champ and sits third in the current race.
Johnson, the former U.S. Ryder Cup captain and two-time major champ, finished birdie-birdie at Pleasant Valley Country Club to complete his bogey-free round. He rolled in a long putt at the par-3 17th and came close to holding his third shot at the par-5 18th, setting up a short birdie.
“I had 109 (yards to the) hole and I hit a 56-degree (wedge),” Johnson said of his approach at No. 18. “It was one of those where, I mean I can probably max out my 56 at about 112. Wind was right to left. If anything, maybe a pinch of help, but I’m like, this is perfect. So the number in my head was 110 and it flew 110 and it spun back to whatever, 4 feet, 5 feet maybe.”
With what’s at stake, Johnson was glad to have a straightforward day to kick off the tournament.
“I put myself in the fairway a lot and just gave myself ample and really good opportunities,” said Johnson, a rookie on the PGA Tour Champions at 50. “… Just not a whole lot of stress if I’m going to be (honest) — which I like, low stress, especially the first day. I love a low-stress day.”
Fifty-four players qualified for the season’s penultimate event (51 are playing), but only the top 36 in points after Sunday will make the Charles Schwab Cup Championship two weeks from now in Phoenix.
Stenson, who began the week at No. 41 and is currently projected to jump to No. 20, is playing for more than just a spot in the finale. The former LIV Golf member, whose PGA Tour suspension expired earlier this year, is preparing himself to play a full-time schedule on the PGA Tour Champions in 2027.
“I was being realistic. I thought it was going to take some time to work on my game and get back in the groove of things,” Stenson said. “I just tried to stay with the processes. If you do enough good things over time, the results will come. And I’m not planning on changing anything just because I had a good round here and not because I had a good tournament last week. I’m just trying to keep on doing the things that I know and want to do.”
Alker had a strong round highlighted by an eagle at the par-5 10th, but he lost a stroke with a bogey 6 at No. 18.
“Coming in I still wasn’t quite hitting it how I wanted to and then bogey on the last,” he said. “But yeah, I just, I didn’t really have control of my ball today, which hasn’t really happened for a long time … My short game held me together and I was pleased with that.”
################
DEFENDING CHAMP MIYU YAMASHITA TAKES MAYBANK LEAD
Defending champion Miyu Yamashita of Japan carded a bogey-free 6-under-par 66 in the second round Friday to take a two-shot lead at the Maybank Championship in Malaysia.
At 13-under 131, Yamashita is five shots ahead of the pace she set last year through two rounds at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club before prevailing in a three-way playoff.
“I’ve been playing some really good rounds this year especially,” Yamashita said. “My game is in better shape than last year, so my swing feels really good, too.”
Although Yamashita, 25, is not one of the circuit’s longest hitters, the four-time LPGA Tour winner has four birdies this week on the par-5 holes.
“The fairways are quite narrow on this course and then there is a lot of elevation changes,” she said. “My distance control has been good and I’ve been able to take advantage of the par-5s.”
First-round leader Pauline Roussin-Bouchard of France (69 on Friday) and Spain’s Julia Lopez Ramirez (66) are tied for second at 11-under. South Korea’s A Lim Kim is fourth at 10-under after shooting the low round of the day at 64.
Roussin-Bouchard enters the weekend with 11 birdies and zero bogeys.
“The few putts that I made were mostly for pars, so those were definitely clutch,” she said after her round. “I think it’s like trying to just do pretty much the same thing and maybe just roll a few more putts in. But no, same mindset. Keeping the thoughts in the right place and that’s pretty much it.”
Lopez Ramirez birdied three of her last four holes in humid conditions.
“Try to keep your mind cool and your body hydrated in these conditions,” Lopez Ramirez said of her plans for the weekend.
England’s Charley Hull birdied five of her first six holes to take the lead, but bogeys at Nos. 16 and 18 gave her a 69 and a share of fifth place at 9-under with Sweden’s Maja Stark (67), South Korea’s Amy Yang (67) and American Sophia Schubert (70).
Brooke Matthews delivered the highlight of Friday’s round by holing out for an ace at the par-3 fourth hole, using a 9-iron from 130 yards. It was just the second ace of her professional or amateur career.
“I hit a solid 9-iron right at it, and it just landed soft and rolled right in,” Matthews said following a round of 71 that left her tied for 65th place.
The LPGA Tour’s four-event Asian swing concludes next week with the Toto Japan Classic at Omitama outside Tokyo. Japan’s Nasa Hataoka is the defending champion.

INDIANA PACERS
NBA Cup group play commenced on Friday, and Indiana opened its slate against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Miami Heat. The Heat came into the matchup with a 1-4 record, hungry to get back in the win column, and defeated the Pacers, 145-125.
Indiana was severely undermanned – the Pacers had just 11 players available after Obi Toppin was a late scratch with back soreness. Toppin’s hustle and versatility was missed, but the Pacers had little trouble shifting their offense into gear.
Jay Huff scored a team-high 10 points in the first quarter. He was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, and knocked in two 3-pointers in the opening 12 minutes. The Pacers have struggled from deep to open the season, but the 3-pointer was there for the Blue and Gold in the first half.
Andrew Nembhard was just 1-for-7 from 3-point range against the 76ers, but he opened Friday’s game with four triples in five tries. He closed the half with a team-high 17 points and five assists.
Three turnovers in the first three minutes of the third quarter spelled trouble for Indiana. The Heat led by 17 points with eight minutes to go in the third, 80-63, and the Pacers needed to find some momentum.
Klay Thompson erupted in the third. He knocked down five 3-pointers in the frame, and scored 15 points. The Heat ballooned their lead to as many as 23 points in the third quarter, but the Pacers dug in and fought back. Rookie Braden Smith’s first NBA point made the score 103-88, cutting the Heat lead to a manageable 15 points heading into the final frame.
Quenton Jackson was a steady source of momentum throughout the contest, but his scoring punch in the second half helped the Pacers cut into the Miami lead. Jackson scored a team-high 15 points in the second half, and finished with a team-high 24 points overall.
The Heat kept pushing, however, and led by 20 points with just under two minutes to play. Indiana tried to make a push, but the Heat held on to defeat the Pacers, 145-125.
Jackson’s 24 points led the Pacers, and Nembhard recorded his first 20-point game of the season with 22 points and nine assists. Antetokounmpo led the Heat with 31 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists. He was followed by Adebayo with 27 points, and Thompson with 25.
Indiana dropped its first NBA Cup designated game, but has three remaining games in the group play stage. The Pacers will compete in NBA Cup play again on Friday, Nov. 13, when they host the New York Knicks at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Inside the Numbers
The Pacers shot 48 percent from the field, and 46 percent from 3-point range.
Andrew Nembhard’s five made 3-pointers is a new career-high.
The Heat won the rebounding battle, 47-37.
Six of the 11 available Pacers scored in double figures on Friday – Quenton Jackson (24), Andrew Nembhard (22), Jarace Walker (14), Pascal Siakam (13), Jay Huff (13), and Kelly Oubre Jr. (10).
You Can Quote Me on That
“That’s going to be the strength of their team, and that’s going to be the challenge we have playing them…You’re trying to disrupt it a little bit. We went zone a couple times, and then we doubled a couple of times, and I don’t think he felt the double team, and that’s how some of the spray out threes happened.” – coach Lloyd Pierce on defending Giannis Antetokounmpo and shooters
“Our division is tough. I don’t know who won the Philly-New York game, but someone lost, right? And so we still have a chance, and it’s going to come down to the point differential. So we understand it. They understand it.” – Pierce on teams continuing to score late in the game due to NBA Cup tiebreakers
“We went to the finals of this thing the first year, and there was nothing easy about that. And so you know, if you’re going to have an opportunity, everything matters. Every possession matters. Every game matters. We’re going to have another one in a couple weeks…It matters. It’s important.” – Pierce on Indiana’s mindset in NBA Cup games
Stat of the Night
The Pacers recorded a season-high 42 points in the first quarter.
Noteworthy
Indiana is 0-1 in NBA Cup group play.
Coach Rick Carlisle missed Friday’s game to attend a memorial service for his father.
Obi Toppin was a late scratch in Miami with back soreness.
Rookie Braden Smith recorded his first NBA point in Friday’s matchup with the Heat.
Up Next
The Pacers will host Julius Randle and the Brooklyn Nets at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 5:00 PM ET.

IU MEN’S SOCCER
LOS ANGELES — Indiana men’s soccer (13-1-3, 6-1-2 B1G) remains tied atop the Big Ten Conference table going into Wednesday’s final match after Oliver Moller-Jensen led the Hoosiers to a 3-1 win at No. 17 UCLA Friday (Oct. 30) night.
Moller-Jensen took part in all three Hoosier goals, assisting Charlie Heuer’s opener before bagging his fourth brace of the season. The third-year forward put the match away with a long-distance chip from nearer to midfield than goal.
So, the Hoosiers sit in the driver’s seat ahead of Big Ten decision day. With 20 points, Indiana sits tied for first with Washington – a team it beat earlier in the slate. A win guarantees at least a share of its 20th Big Ten regular season championship as well as the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, though a myriad scenarios remain open on the way to another conference title.
IU will host Michigan State – currently three points short of the Hoosiers – in Wednesday’s ultimate match on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, and fans can purchase tickets here.
KEY MOMENTS
• 17′ – GOAL! The opening goal sequence began with IU defender Nick McHenry running down a Bruin at midfield and dispossessing him. The ball came to Wes Carnevale, who passed to Moller-Jensen on the right wing. Moller-Jensen dribbled into the box, backed down a defender and passed across the six-yard box to Heuer, who slid in front of his marker and put it in. Indiana 1, UCLA 0
• 32′ – GOAL! As he attempted to score a rebounded shot, Moller-Jensen was pushed from behind in the box and won a penalty kick. Moller-Jensen stepped to the spot, sent the keeper the wrong way and finished into the right side of the goal to double IU’s lead. Indiana 2, UCLA 0
• 34′ – GOAL! UCLA responded minutes later from a free throw, as the ball came to Adrian Aguilar in the box. The Bruin midfielder wriggled in the box and fired a left-footed finish through the Hoosier defense. Indiana 2, UCLA 1
• 63′ – Indiana goalkeeper Michal Mroz added to his catalogue of great saves in preserving the one-goal lead. Josh Maher ended up on the floor from a 50-50 challenge, giving the UCLA forward a one-on-one chance with Mroz. Mroz got off his line well and made a sliding clearance as the Bruin took his shot.
• 72′ – GOAL! Off a UCLA sub and throw-in, Moller-Jensen quickly dispossessed the Bruins in their own half. Moller-Jensen tried to play Easton Bogard ahead of him, but the ball went through as he kept running. So, Moller-Jensen played himself through. With the keeper way off his line, the Hoosier forward fired a long chip from the right side of the field, and the ball sailed over the keeper and tucked into the far side of goal. Indiana 3, UCLA 1
NOTABLES
• Indiana improved to 3-0-1 against Top 25 opponents this season, with victories against No. 16 Washington (1-0), No. 4 Maryland and now at No. 17 UCLA (3-1) plus a draw at Wisconsin (1-1). Todd Yeagley improved to 64-39-21 against ranked opponents as IU head coach.

IU VOLLEYBALL
EAST LANSING, Mich. – There’s so much fight in this program.
Even with its backs against the wall, after a disastrous second set, the Indiana volleyball team (13-7, 6-5 Big Ten) turned around one of the best comebacks in recent memory to pick up a massive road victory. The Hoosiers rattled off the final three sets in dominant fashion to close out a reverse sweep (19-25, 15-25, 25-15, 25-19, 15-7) of 25th-ranked Michigan State on Friday (Oct. 30) evening at the Breslin Center.
IU’s comeback win is the third ranked win of the season and the seventh in the last two years. The reverse sweep was the first since last year’s season opener and the first over a ranked team in program history. After losing two five-set matches in Big Ten play this year, IU finally came out on the other end of one. It’s the 18th reverse sweep by the Hoosiers in school history.
Service pressure rose to a whole new level following the intermission. Second-year setter Teodora Krickovic had a record night from the end line, providing eight service aces. Those eight aces are the most by an IU player in the rally-scoring era and tied for the second most in a single match in program history. She dished out 44 assists and grabbed nine digs while setting the team to a .277 hitting percentage (55-19-130).
Nothing could have happened in East Lansing if not for a gritty defensive effort from the Hoosiers. IU won the blocking battle (12.0-9.0) behind a season high nine rejections from fifth-year middle blocker Kiki Granberry. She added 10 kills and finished just shy of her second career double-double. Second-year libero Audrey Jackson shifted back into the libero jersey and had a career high 16 digs.
Fifth-year opposite hitter Avry Tatum helped spark a resurgent offensive effort in the latter half of the match. She had 15 kills, one of three Hoosiers in double figures. Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager responded from a slow start to turn in 14 kills. All five primary attackers had at least six kills.
Head coach Steve Aird matched a program record with his 12th ranked win as the head coach of the Hoosiers . His eight ranked road wins are far and away a program record already. IU will look to complete a 2-0 weekend tomorrow night (Oct. 31) in Ann Arbor against Michigan. First serve is set for 7 p.m. on B1G+.
How it Happened
• An offensive explosion got the ball rolling in IU’s comeback victory. After hitting under .200 in the opening two sets, IU responded by hitting .320 or better in the final three frames. That includes a blistering .438 (8-1-16) fifth set where IU sided out at 71 percent.
• A tough defensive effort was big for the Hoosiers on Friday evening. IU had an advantage in digs (49-47) and blocks (12.0-9.0) while winning the long rallies. Fifth-year opposite hitter Avry Tatum (15 kills, 6 blocks, 6 digs) and fifth-year middle blocker Kiki Granberry (10 kills, 9 blocks) stepped up late for the Hoosiers.
Top Hoosier Performers
#13 Tatum, Avry
15 kills, 6 blocks, 6 digs
#12 Krickovic, Teodora
44 assists, 9 digs, 8 aces, 2 blocks, 2 kills
#77 Granberry, Kiki
10 kills, .412 hitting percentage, 9 blocks, 3 digs
Notes to Know
• IU pulled off a reverse sweep of No. 25 Michigan State on Friday (Oct. 30) evening after winning the final three sets of the match. It’s the first time IU has done so since beating Miami (Fla.) to begin the 2025 campaign last year. It’s the first reverse sweep of a Big Ten opponent since 2011 (vs. Iowa – Nov. 12, 2011) and the first against a ranked opponent in program history.
• Head coach Steve Aird guided his team to a 12th ranked win during his tenure in Bloomington. The win matches a program record for ranked wins by a head coach. His eight ranked road wins are by far the most by any head coach in IU history. Over the last two seasons, IU has won seven top 25 matches, the most in a two-year span in program history.
• Second-year setter Teodora Krickovic recorded eight aces in the win over the Spartans, by far a career high during her time in college. The eight aces are the most by any IU player in a rally-scoring era (since 2001) and are tied for the second most ever in a match in program history. Ironically, the single-match record is held by Jill Kerkhoff in a match against Michigan State (9 – Nov. 28, 1992).
• The Hoosiers scored points in a number of ways, including at the net and at the end line. For the first time this year, and second time in the past three years, IU recorded double-digit blocks (12.0) and aces (11) in the same match. The last time IU did that in a road match was also in East Lansing (Nov. 24, 2023). IU’s 11 aces are the most in a Big Ten match since that same contest against the Spartans (14 – Nov. 24, 2023).
• Second-year libero Audrey Jackson moved back into the jersey for the first time this season and made a big difference. She recorded a career high 16 digs and added four assists. Four different players had at least six digs in the win for the Hoosiers.
• Since the beginning of the 25-point rally-scoring era (2008), IU’s seven points allowed in set five are the fewest in a full-length match. The Hoosiers have played four five-set matches this season (2-2). In all of them, the losing team has failed to reach 10 points in the final frame.

NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL: GAME NOTES VS. NAVY
GAME DAY AT A GLANCE
Saturday afternoon in New England will mark the 99th Notre Dame-Navy meeting. The series stands with an 84-13-1 Notre Dame advantage all-time.
It is the fourth meeting between Marcus Freeman and Brian Newberry as head coaches. Under Freeman, the Irish are 4-0 against the Midshipmen overall and 3-0 against Newberry-led Navy squads.
The Irish and Midshipmen met a season ago; it was the first true home game at Notre Dame Stadium against Navy in the Freeman Era. No. 10 Notre Dame won 49-10.
The last time the two teams met at a neutral site, it was a clash of top 25 opponents; No. 12 Notre Dame claimed a 51-14 win at MetLife Stadium over No. 24 Navy on October 26, 2024.
The Irish are 142-23-5 against American Athletic Conference opponents all-time.
Notre Dame is 6-0 against AAC members under Freeman.
The Notre Dame-Navy series (99) is the most-played series in program history.
The two sides have faced one another every year since 1927 with the exception of the 2020 season.
The teams play for the Rip Miller Trophy. An unconventional rivalry trophy, the Rip Miller Trophy is composed of two symmetric halves. Each program maintains possession of its half and is inscribed with the names of the team’s captains for each year. The two pieces are reunited whenever possible for the weekend of the annual rivalry contest.
The Rip Miller Trophy is named after NFF Hall of Fame inductee Edgar “Rip” Miller. He was a member of the Notre Dame football team from 1922-24 and was one of the Seven Mules on the offensive line who blocked for the legendary Four Horsemen. He went on to coach at Navy before serving as assistant director of athletics at Navy until 1974 for 48 years of service at the Naval Academy.

NAVY NOTES:
Opening Kick
• Navy (2-5) and #5/6 Notre Dame (6-1) will meet on the gridiron for the 99th time in series history when the two square off on ABC on Saturday (12 noon) at Gillette Stadium (65,878) in Foxborough, Mass. Saturday’s game is presented by Navy Federal and Navy Mutual Aid Association.
• The Navy-Notre Dame game was the longest continuous intersectional rivalry in college football until COVID canceled the game in 2020.
• Without Navy, Notre Dame may not still exist. Notre Dame fell on hard times in World War II. The school’s population dwindled to a depression era number of 2,623 students in 1943 and a 20 percent reduction in 5 years led to stark financial problems for the school. Then the Navy came to Notre Dame’s rescue.
• According to then Notre Dame president Hugh O’Donnell, the school “offered all of the facilities of this institution to the government. In April of 1943, the V-7 Indoctrination School was created and the first group of 900 men, all college graduates enlisted for one month as apprentice seamen.”
• The late Notre Dame Vice President Father Edmund Joyce also shared the same sentiments of Navy’s importance to the school. “All I can say is without the Navy during the war, this institution would have gotten down to a few hundred students. Instead of that, we were almost twice our normal size during the war, and we were able to contribute something to the Navy.”
• Notre Dame has never forgotten Navy’s kindness and support in its time of dire need. In fact, in the 1950s and 60s when colleges across the country en masse were ending their ROTC programs, Notre Dame stood by Navy and allowed its University to serve as a base for college naval recruits.
• Navy athletics will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its only football national championship this weekend, honoring a remarkable 1926 team that finished 9-0-1 and captured a share of the national title. The Mids will wear a commemorative uniform with a special patch for the Notre Dame game in recognition of a team whose accomplishments remain one of the great chapters in Navy football history.
• The jersey is a modern interpretation of the iconic “Chevron Stripe” uniform worn by Navy during the 1926 championship season. It features nine stripes across the upper body—four on the front and five on the back—symbolizing the nine victories recorded by the Midshipmen that season.
• The uniform features Navy’s traditional blue-and-gold color palette and pays tribute to the Naval Academy alma mater, “Navy Blue and Gold.” The song was first performed publicly in its current form on April 24, 1926, and was officially designated as the Academy’s alma mater in 1927. The words “Navy Blue and Gold” are inscribed on the interior collar of the jersey.
• The 1926 season also produced a remarkable connection between Navy and Notre Dame.
• Notre Dame entered its Nov. 27 game against Carnegie Tech undefeated at 8-0 and had surrendered only one touchdown all season. The Fighting Irish appeared to be headed toward a possible national championship before Carnegie Tech stunned Notre Dame, 19-0, at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh.
• Notre Dame head coach Knute Rockne wasn’t there to see it. Confident his team would defeat Carnegie Tech, Rockne instead traveled to Chicago to watch the Army-Navy game at Soldier Field. While Rockne watched Navy preserve its undefeated season with a 21-21 tie against Army, Carnegie Tech was handing Notre Dame its only loss of the season. Notre Dame would finish 9-1.
• One hundred years later, that unusual intersection of Navy and Notre Dame history provides another connection as the Midshipmen honor the team that delivered the program’s only national championship.
• The 1926 team remains one of the great chapters in Navy football history—a team coming off two difficult seasons, led by a first-year head coach, that went undefeated, defeated Michigan, battled Army to a tie before more than 110,000 fans and finished the season as a national champion.
• Navy last beat Notre Dame in 2016 when the Mids won in Jacksonville 28-27. Navy won three of the four contests from 2007-10.
• Three of the last 4 times Navy has beaten Notre Dame, the Mids were coming off a loss. In 2007, Navy was coming off a 59-52 loss to Delaware, in 2009 Navy was coming off a 27-24 loss to Temple and in 2016 Navy was coming off a 52-45 loss at USF.
• Navy’s last win over a ranked opponent was on Nov. 15, 2025 when it defeated #25 South Florida 41-38.
• The last time Navy beat a ranked Notre Dame team was on Nov. 7, 2009 when the Mids defeated the 19th/21st-ranked Irish 23-21 in South Bend.
• The last time Navy beat a top-10 opponent was Oct. 8, 2016, when the Mids stunned No. 6 Houston 46-40 in Annapolis.
• The last time Navy beat a top-5 opponent was Nov. 17, 1984, when the Mids upset No. 2 South Carolina 38-21 in Annapolis.
• The last time Navy beat a Notre Dame team ranked in the top 10 was Nov. 2, 1957, when the Mids won in South Bend over No. 5 Notre Dame 20-6.
• Not only are the Mids facing their toughest opponent in Notre Dame, they also have midterm exams this week.
• Notre Dame enters Saturday’s game with a 6-1 record. The Irish are coming off a 28-24 loss to BYU. Next week the Irish play host to No. 1 Miami at Notre Dame Stadium. Notre Dame is considered a near lock to make the College Football Playoff.
• Navy’s 19 first-time collegiate starters (at any level collegiately) are the most in the country.
• Navy is an extremely young team, ranking 134th out of 138 FBS teams in career snaps played entering the 2026 season.
• This will be Navy’s fifth game in the last seven away from home. The Mids have played one of the least favorable schedules in the country.
• This will be the fourth-consecutive game Navy has played an opponent that had more rest than it did. Both Tulsa and UTSA played Thursday night games the week before Navy, while North Texas and Notre Dame had two weeks to prepare for the Mids.
• Navy and Eastern Michigan are the only teams in the FBS to play four road games in a five-game span. Three of those road games for Navy were night games with the Mids not returning to Annapolis before 5 am for any of them.
• Navy is one of five schools in the country that will play or have played three-consecutive road games in 2026, joining Western Kentucky, Syracuse, UNLV and Cal.
• This year is the first time Navy has played three of its first-four games of the season on the road (not including neutral site games) since 1997, when the Mids played at San Diego State (L, 45-31), home vs. Rutgers (W, 36-7), at SMU (W, 46-16) and at Duke (L, 26-17). That team finished 7-4, which included a 39-7 win over Army, but did not go to a bowl game because two of those seven wins were against FCS teams.
• The Mids are in the midst of playing seven-consecutive games without a bye (gm 6) which started Sept. 25 at UAB. It is the most games Navy has played without a bye since 2022 when it played nine-consecutive games without a bye. That team finished 4-8.
• Navy had played five-consecutive one-score games (1-4) before losing by 10 to North Texas. Last year, Navy went 5-0 in one-score games.
• It is the first time Navy played five-consecutive one-score games since 2005 when the Mids started the year playing five-consecutive one-score games (3-2).
• Despite the 2-5 record, Navy is outscoring its opposition 208-204. Navy has given up 143 points in the first half this year and 61 points in the second.
• Navy and Jacksonville State are the only teams in the FBS that have not recovered a fumble this fall.
• The five teams that have beaten Navy this year are a combined 26-10 (.722) – FAU (5-2), Air Force (5-2), UAB (4-3), UTSA (7-1) and North Texas (5-2). Navy has not played an FBS team with a losing record this year.
• Navy will have to win its next four games against Notre Dame, Temple, Memphis and Charlotte to become bowl eligible (Army game is played after the bowl bids are announced).
• The Mids are 12-2 (.857) at home since 2024.
• Navy has won 79-consecutive games at home when leading after 3 quarters, tied with Ohion University for the nation’s longest streak. The last time Navy lost at home when leading after 3 quarters was Oct. 23, 1999, when the Mids led Akron 29-13 and lost 35-29.
• Under Newberry, Navy is 16-4 (.800) at home and 12-13 (.480) away from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (8-10 on the road, 4-3 in neutral site games).
• Navy is No. 1 in the country in passing yards per completion, averaging 20.5 yards per reception.
• Navy is No. 3 in the nation in rushing this fall, averaging 307.7 rushing yards per game.
• Navy is averaging 5.72 yards per carry this season, which is No. 8 nationally.
• Navy is averaging 53.9 rushing attempts per game, which is No. 4 nationally.
• The Notre Dame defense is ranked No. 1 in the country in total defense (235 yds/gm), No. 3 in rushing defense (67.3 yds/gm), No. 4 in scoring defense (13.4) and No. 5 in turnovers gained (16).
• Since 2000, Navy has had 10 different quarterbacks rush for over 200 yards in a game a total of 20 times, which is more than triple any other FBS program.
• Jackson Gutierrez (Jr. / QB) joined that list in Navy’s home game on Oct. 10 against Tulsa when he rushed for a career-high 232 yards and three touchdowns on 41 carries.
• The 232 yards rushing are the most by a Navy player since 2019 when Malcolm Perry ran for 304 yards against Army.
• The 232 yards are the third most in the FBS this year in a single game and the second-most by a quarterback.
• The 41 rushing attempts were the most by a Navy player since Ricky Dobbs carried the ball 42 times against SMU in 2008. Dobbs finished with 224 yards and four touchdowns in that game, as the Mids did not attempt a pass.
• His 41 carries are the most by any player this year and the sixth most in school history. Gutierrez also had 34 carries against UAB, tied for the fourth most in the FBS this year.
• Gutierrez’s 12 rushing touchdowns this fall are tied for the fourth most in the FBS, while his 124.6 rushing yards per game stands fourth nationally and first among quarterbacks.
• His 92-yard touchdown pass to sophomore tight end Jordan Collins (So. / TE) against UTSA is the longest pass play in school history. The previous long was an 87-yard pass from Chris McCoy to Matt Scornavacchi against Tulane in 1995.
• Collins had two receptions for a career-high 117 yards and a career-high two touchdowns against UTSA. He is the first Navy player to catch two passes in a game, both going for touchdowns, since Brandon Turner did it on Nov. 3, 2012, against FAU in a 24-17 win.
• Collins is the first tight end in the FBS to have no more than two catches in a game with 100+ receiving yards and two touchdowns since David Njoku of Miami (Fla.) in 2016.
• Gutierrez (232 yds, 41 carries) and Michael Barrow (Jr. / Snipe / 107 yds, 14 carries) became Navy’s first 100-yard rushing pair (vs. Tulsa) since Alex Tecza (126 yds) and Braxton Woodson (103 yds) did it against South Florida on Nov. 15, 2025. It was a career-high rushing yards for both Gutierrez and Barrow.
• Gutierrez carried the ball 26 times for 228 yards and three touchdowns, while completing seven of his 10 attempts for 133 yards and a touchdown against North Texas.
• He is the seventh different Navy player with multiple 200-yard rushing games in a career and his two games are tied for the fifth most in program history
• His two 200-yard rushing games this year (232 vs. Tulsa, 228 vs. North Texas) are tied for the second most in a Navy season. The record is three by Malcolm Perry in 2019.
• He is the first Navy player with 200 yards rushing and 100 yards passing in a game since Blake Horvath rushed for 211 yards and passed for 192 against Memphis on Sept. 21, 2024
• Gutierrez is the first Navy player with three-consecutive 100-yard rushing games since Blake Horvath has six in a row in 2025 (Tulsa, Rice, Air Force, Temple, FAU, North Texas)
• Navy is the only team in the FBS to have three 200-yard rushing games this year (Braxton Woodson, 200 yds vs. Towson, Jackson Gutierrez 232 vs. Tulsa and 228 vs. North Texas). Gutierrez and Torrance Burgess Jr. of Texas State are the only players that have two 200-yard rushing days in 2026.
• Gutierrez is the first Navy player since Brian Madden in 2000 to have 800 or more rushing yards and 700 or more passing yards in the first seven games of the season.
• Gutierrez got his first-career start at quarterback against UAB, rushing for 134 yards and one touchdown on 34 carries, while completing four of his 13 pass attempts for 104 yards. He is the first Navy quarterback to rush for 100 yards in his first-collegiate start since Ricky Dobbs did it at Northern Illinois on Nov. 25, 2008. Dobbs carried the ball 25 times for 125 yards rushing and a touchdown in Navy’s 16-0 win.
• Truman Brasfield (Fr. / WR) became the first Navy player since Ryan Read in 1998 to catch touchdown passes of 50 yards or more in consecutive games (54 yds vs. Colgate and 78 yds at Boston College) when he caught a 68-yard touchdown against Air Force on Oct. 3 and followed up with a 58-yarder at home against Tulsa last Saturday. The 68-yard touchdown reception at Air Force was his first-collegiate touchdown and the longest reception of his career.
• The last six times Navy has won its season opener, it has gone on to play in a bowl game. The Mids won their season opener this year 42-15 over Towson.
• Navy has gone to a bowl game in 12 of the last 13 years it has won its season opener.
• Navy owns a 761-610-57 (.553) record over 146 seasons. The 761 wins are the 23rd most in the FBS and the most of any team not in the autonomy four.
• Since his arrival in 2019, Brian Newberry has challenged the defense to “Get 6” in every game. What does Get 6 mean? It’s a combined total of six three-and-outs, fourth down stops and turnovers. A missed field goal counts as a fourth down stop.If that turnover is returned for a score, it counts as an extra point towards the goal of six.
• In Newberry’s eight years at Navy, the Mids are 29-5 (.853) and have won 12 in a row when they “Get 6” and 21-37 (.362) when they don’t.The Navy defense has not gotten “Six” this year.
• Brian Newberry started his head coaching career at Navy with a 20-10 record, which is the best 30-game start by a Navy head coach since Wayne Hardin went 20-9-1 from 1959-61. Ken Niumatalolo, the winningest head coach in school history, started his first-30 games at Navy with a 19-11 record.
• Newberry was 27-13 (.675) over his first 40 games, which tied him with Niumatalolo for the second best start in school history after 40 games. Bill Ingram owns the best start for a Navy coach after 40 games, starting 27-9-4 (.725) from 1926-30.
• Newberry is currently 28-17 (.622) as a head coach.
• Navy’s senior class has put together a 28-17 (.622) record over four seasons, including a 18-11 (.621) mark in the American Conference.
• Hoke Smith II (Sr. / OG) has the honor of wearing jersey No. 68 this season in memory of former Navy offensive lineman David Forney. Forney, who was a senior offensive lineman on the 2019 team, died on Feb. 20, 2020, after being found unresponsive in Bancroft Hall. He was 22 years old. Forney was a 3-year varsity letter winner for the Mids and played in 39-consecutive games over his final 3 seasons.
• Navy’s roster represents 31 different states. Georgia (28), Texas (27), Florida (23) and Maryland (22) have produced the most players on the Navy roster in 2026.
• The Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) and USAA have extended their historic partnership for an additional 10 years, continuing a longstanding relationship built on shared values of service, leadership and commitment to those who serve. As part of the expanded partnership, USAA has been named the Anchor Partner of Navy Athletics, the highest level of corporate partnership within the Naval Academy Athletic Association. Beginning with the 2026-27 academic year, the USAA logo will appear on jerseys for 30 Navy varsity sports, providing a visible representation of the continued collaboration between two organizations with deep connections to the military community.
• Navy currently has four players on the active NFL rosters. 2nd Lt. Eli Heidenreich (RB / WR, Pittsburgh Steelers) and 2nd Lt. Landon Robinson (DL, Cincinnati Bengals) are both rookies, while 2nd Lt. Rayuan Lane (S, Jacksonville Jaguars) is in his second year. Joe Cardona (LS, Los Angeles Rams) is in his 12th NFL season, surpassing Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach for the longest NFL career by a former Navy football player. Staubach played 11 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys from 1969 through 1979.

Scouting Notre Dame
6-1 Overall | Independent
Head Coach: Marcus Freeman
• Notre Dame is off to a 6-1 start and ranked fifth in the AP poll and sixth in the coaches poll. The Irish are undoubtedly one of the best teams in the country and a top contender to win the national championship.
• Notre Dame owns an impressive 41-13 victory over Wisconsin and a 37-26 win over North Carolina. The Irish have also defeated Rice (52-0), Michigan State (27-10), Purdue (49-10) and Stanford (58-7). Their only loss was to BYU (28-24) in a game that ended in controversial fashion.
• The Irish are a rare program that take very few transfers. Notre Dame has just nine transfers on its roster, all from Power 4 schools.
• The Notre Dame offense is led by junior quarterback CJ Carr, who has completed 129 of his 193 pass attempts for 1,639 yards with 16 touchdowns and incredibly has thrown just one interception. Carr is projected to go seventh in the 2027 NFL Draft by ESPN’s Field Yates.
• Carr’s favorite targets are the electric senior wide receiver Jordan Faison (34 catches for 451 yds and 4 touchdowns) and junior wide receiver Micah Gilbert (22 catches for 429 yds and 2 touchdowns). Faison is also eighth in the country in punt returns (15.2 yds/return).
• The Notre Dame rushing attack is paced by freshman sensation Jonaz Walton (57 carries for 426 yds and 3 touchdowns) and sophomore Nolan James Jr. (81 carries for 412 yds and 6 touchdowns).
• The Notre Dame offense has lost just one fumble all year and thrown just one interception. The two total turnovers are the fewest in the FBS.
• The Irish are averaging 41.1 points per game, which is sixth in the country. A big part of that is an offense line that is No. 1 in the FBS in sacks allowed (0.3) and second in tackles for loss allowed (2.3).
• As good as the Notre Dame offense is, the defense is even better. The Irish are ranked No. 1 in the country in total defense (235 yds/gm), No. 3 in rushing defense (67.3 yds/gm), No. 4 in scoring defense (13.4) and fifth in turnovers gained (16).
• The Irish defense is led by senior linebacker Drayk Bowen (38 tackles, one tackle for loss and one fumble recovery) and fifth-year senior linebacker Jaylen Sneed (28 tackles).
• Junior cornerback Leonard Moore is one of the best players in the country at any position. ESPN’s Field Yates projects him to go third in the 2027 NFL Draft.
• The Irish are an extremely disciplined team, ranking first in the country in penalties (3.1) and penalty yards per game (29.4).

NOTRE DAME MEN’S SOCCER
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-5-3, 4-4-0) dominated the Duke Blue Devils (5-6-3, 1-6-0) in a 3-0 win at Alumni Stadium on Friday night to close out the regular season.
Three different Irish players scored goals on the evening, with senior Nolan Spicer, fifth year Vlad Walent and junior Stevie Dunphy all finding the back of the net. Spicer also added an assist, as well as sophomore Karson Baquero. Junior goalkeeper Blake Kelly recorded three saves in his fourth clean sheet of the season, and 10th of his career.
Notre Dame finishes the regular season with a 5-2-2 home record.
The Irish lead the overall series against the Blue Devils with a record of 12-6-2 and are 8-0-2 when playing them at home at Alumni Stadium.
The match kicked off in the rain, and both sides battled for possession throughout the opening minutes, trading limited shots off target. Possession was split between the Irish and the Blue Devils until Duke found an opening 11 minutes into the match, rattling off three-consecutive shots in the box, all blocked by Notre Dame defenders.
As both sides settled in, Notre Dame began to take control, earning possession and setting up what would be a takeover. Notre Dame earned a free kick from Ian Shaul, setting up their first opportunity, but the shot was left wide to keep the score at zero.
The Irish continued to gain momentum throughout the first half, and in the 31st minute, the momentum paid off. With an aggressive setup by Notre Dame, Baquero broke the defensive line in the box to find Spicer, who delivered a low shot off his left foot that wrapped around the near post for the first goal of the night.
Just minutes later, Notre Dame earned a penalty kick, and Walent converted with a shot to the bottom left corner of the net to put the Irish up 2-0.
Notre Dame continued control through the end of the half, keeping their 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
In the second half, the Irish didn’t take long to challenge again. In the 53rd minute, Dunphy delivered a brilliant touch to a high ball in order to settle and turn to Spicer. Later, Spicer took care of the service to Dunphy, and Dunphy capitalized with Notre Dame’s third goal of the evening.
The Irish did not let up, continuing to control the game throughout the second half. Duke earned chances, including a free kick that resulted in a shot outside the box, but Notre Dame defended the shutout.
McFARLAND FAMILY MEN’S HEAD SOCCER COACH CHAD RILEY’S TAKE
On the match…
“I’m very proud of the team tonight. We put together an excellent performance against a dangerous Duke team, handled the pressure of the night exceptionally well, and did a great job scoring goals and earning the shutout.”
UP NEXT
WIth the regular season complete, the Irish await their assignment for the 2026 ACC Men’s Soccer Tournament, set to commence on Nov. 4 at campus sites.

On the Record with Head Coach Kyle Shondell
“Unbelievable, instant classic match in Hinkle Fieldhouse tonight. We’ve had a stretch of volleyball for our program where we haven’t played up to our own standards, and that wasn’t the case tonight. We played well enough to compete with anybody in our league tonight, and nobody deserved to lose that match. Unfortunately, we happened to do so. Absolutely thrilled with our serving performance. Beyond pleased with Jersey Loyer’s effort tonight. I thought she was absolutely terrific, playing up against one of the best liberos in the BIG EAST Conference. I thought she raised her level. It was excellent for us. Chase, who continues to battle some injuries and challenges with her health, came in ready to go, and she played really, really well. Raegan Durbin was a star. So as mad as I am, it’s tough for me to be upset at my players because we played great tonight.”
Set 1 St. John’s (25-23)
Both teams opened the match trading points back and forth. The Bulldogs went on a 5-2 run driven by kills from Dutro and Elise Ward, which put them in the lead, 15-14, over the Red Storm at the halfway point of the set. ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
Maria Marchesano, a 2005 Butler alum, returned in April and was named the 10th head coach in program history. Marchesano’s 14-year head-coaching career includes 234 wins.
The Bulldogs’ preseason included two exhibitions, both wins against Ball State and Franklin College.
Against Franklin, seven Bulldogs scored in double figures, with Taya Ellis (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Laniah Wills (11 points, 10 rebounds) both recording double-doubles in the game.
Saniya and Nevaeh Jackson are the lone returners for Butler. BU added 11 new players this offseason with four freshmen and seven transfers joining the squad.
Saniya Jackson averaged 5.5 rebounds per game and 1.9 steals per game last year, both marks led the squad. The redshirt-junior started all 31 games for BU and averaged 9.2 points per game while playing 30.4 minutes per game.
BU’s transfer class includes 2025-26 MAC All-Defensive selection Tamar Singer (Miami Ohio), Horizon League All-Freshman selection Karina Bystry (Northern Kentucky), Lili Krasovec (Purdue Fort Wayne), Destiny Macharia (Purdue Fort Wayne), Judit Valero (FIU), Ellis (Bowling Green) and Jacy Weisbrod (Northern Michigan). Both Krasovec and Macharia followed Marchesano from Purdue Fort Wayne to Indianapolis.
Wills, Olivia Hastings, Lexi Baer and Sage Miskel comprised Butler’s 2025-26 signing class and are the four freshmen on the roster. Miskel is the daughter of former Butler men’s basketball Academic All-American, Chris Miskel.
Butler’s roster has players from five different states (Indiana, Wisconsin, Maryland, Tennessee, Illinois) and five different countries (Israel, Spain, Hungary, Canada, Australia).
The Bulldogs will play 20 BIG EAST games, facing all 10 conference opponents both at Hinkle Fieldhouse and on the road.
Butler went 12-19 in 2025-26, posting a 9-8 record at Hinkle. BU finished 6-14 in BIG EAST play and did not play in the postseason.
SCOUTING TENNESSEE TECH
The Golden Eagles posted a 15-14 record last season with an 8-12 record in SoCon action.
Tennessee Tech had three players average double figures last season in Chloe Larry (13.6 ppg), Reghan Grimes (13.5 ppg) and Reagan Hurst (12.0 ppg). None of the trio return in 2026.
Tennessee Tech will look for transfers Savannah Davis (Middle Tennessee) and Morgan Sieper (Southern Miss) to contribute heavily on offense.
Kim Rosamond enters her 11th season at the helm of the Golden Eagles. She has led the program to eight consecutive winning seasons and will look to replicate that success during the 2026-27 season.
ABOUT THE SERIES
This will be the second all-time meeting between the two programs.

IU INDY WOMEN’S SOCCER
INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indianapolis women’s soccer team closed the regular season with a fourth win in five games and punched a ticket to the Horizon League Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Northern Illinois at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Friday (Oct. 30). Junior Bethany Hartigan ripped a free kick from 30 yards out for the game’s only score in the 63rd minute and sophomore Isabel Oferosky delivered a shutout in net.
“It feels great, but you know, job isn’t done. That’s what we said. We treated this game like a playoff game. We knew that if we had it in our own hands, we controlled our destiny, all those cliches that you want to put into it, but we played an outstanding game,” head coach Angela Berry White said. “I mean, we had what, 25 shots. We converted it finally on a set piece. Just to have those opportunities and to keep creating, that was very important. Not to get away from our game plan and to try really just put the pressure on them. I can’t say enough about this team.”
Needing a win to ensure a spot in the upcoming six-team Horizon League Tournament, the Jaguars were on the accelerator for much of the day, including earning a penalty kick in the game’s third minute when Lindsey Castillo was pulled down inside the 18-yard box going to goal. Unfortunately, senior Caroline Kelley was unable to convert as NIU goalkeeper Alexandra Devory made a diving stop to her left to keep the Jags off the scoreboard. IU Indy kept the heat on, largely behind the holding play of Kelley and speedy Keilah Muldrow continually getting into space against the NIU backs.
The Jags outshot NIU 12-7 in the opening half and earned seven first half corner kicks to no avail.
While each minute made things more tense, the Jaguars continued to build chances and stave off NIU opportunities.
Hartigan finally lit the lamp with a 30-yard bullet that tucked in just inside the upper 90 after JoJo Murphy had drawn a foul, setting up the restart.
“I think we really deserve to get the win today and make the tournament. It was one of our best games we played recently,” Hartigan said. “I think we just stuck to the game plan and everyone was really behind each other. I think it’s really deserved. I’m just happy for everyone.”
It marked her second goal of her career, both coming this season. Defensively, Hartigan helped anchor a back line that was brilliant all day long in front of Oferosky.
White had to patchwork the defensive quilt all day long as the Jaguars were without starters Katie Hoog and Annaliese Black due to injury. Muldrow and Kelley had four shots apiece as IU Indy finished with 25 shots and nine on target. NIU closed with 15 shots and put eight on frame as Oferosky finished with eight stops.
The Jaguars will learn their postseason fate on Saturday with the conclusion of the regular season matches.

BALL STATE VOLLEYBALL
MUNCIE, Ind. – – The Ball State women’s volleyball team held leads late in all four sets Friday evening but ultimately could not stop Bowling Green’s Mid-American Conference-leading seven-match winning streak, suffering a 3-1 (27-25, 16-25, 25-20, 25-22) setback in Worthen Arena.
Despite the setback, there were plenty of bright spots for the Cardinals (15-7; 6-5 MAC), starting with a career-high 20 kills from junior outside Ava Smith. In addition, Smith hit the mark by hitting a match-best .500 (20-1-38) on the night, with just one attack error.

INDIANA STATE VOLLEYBALL
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State gave four-time defending MVC Champion Northern Iowa its toughest test of the 2026 conference slate Friday night inside ISU Arena, but the visiting Panthers ultimately prevailed over the Sycamores in four sets (25-9, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19).
Iowa native Hadley Hardersen led the Sycamores with 13 kills and 21 assists while hitting .455 for the match, as the sophomore setter also finished three digs shy of a triple-double. Curry Kendall tallied a team-high 14 kills while hitting .444, while Kira Holland tacked on eight kills and eight digs..
Set 1 | Northern Iowa 25, Indiana State 9
The visitors jumped out to an early lead, but kills from Taylor Knuth and Lily Mueller pulled the Trees within a point at 5-4. A 9-0 run for the Panthers followed, though, as UNI’s lead pushed into double-digits. A kill from Kendall and an ace from Lengacher gave the Trees positive signs, but Northern Iowa closed on a 9-1 run to take the first set 25-9.
Set 2 | Indiana State 25, Northern Iowa 21
Northern Iowa continued its momentum from the first set, jumping out to a 9-4 lead in the second. Unlike the opening set, the Sycamores came roaring back. Kills from Holland and Kendall, along with an ace from Corinne Knapp, kept the Trees within range midway through the set, and the Sycamores made their run down the stretch. Two kills from Holland and another from Mueller pulled the Trees within a point, and Hardersen later put the Sycamores in front with an ace. Kills from Ella Scott and Knapp put the Trees on the brink of a set win, and a UNI error closed out a 9-1 Sycamore run to give Indiana State a 25-21 set two win.
Set 3 | Northern Iowa 25, Indiana State 22
Indiana State showed it wasn’t going away early in the third, with Scott and Kendall teaming up for a block and Kendall and Hardersen putting down kills to level the set at 9-all. Northern Iowa went on a run to take a four-point lead, but the Sycamores followed suit with a run of their own. An ace from Knapp, along with a kill from Kendall and a block assist from Scott and Knapp, helped the Trees go in front 16-15, and the Sycamores remained on level terms with the Panthers following a Mueller kill. UNI went on another run to break through, though, and claimed a 25-22 win in the third despite late kills from Kendall and Hardersen.
Set 4 | Northern Iowa 25, Indiana State 19
Two early kills from Hardersen had the Sycamores on the right foot to start the fourth set, with Kendall tacking on a pair of kills to keep things knotted up. Hardersen and Kendall kept things going with kills to keep the Sycamores on level footing midway through the set, but the Panthers finally pulled away late. Hardersen put down another kill late in the set, but Northern Iowa won seven of the last 10 points to clinch a 25-19 fourth set win, fending off a valiant Sycamore effort.

Sensenbrenner and Willis totaled five kills on no errors together, led by Fair with four to round out the USI offense.
SET 5: USI 18, UTM 16
As the Screaming Eagles and Skyhawks battled in the tiebreaker fifth set, going to extra points in the end. Willis tallied four kills, followed by Mackenzie Nettles and Jillian Moonan with two each. Thomas and Small covered the back row, picking up three digs each. Nettles and Thomas kept up the defense at the net with two blocks together.
For the match, Willis recorded a double-double, leading the team with 18 kills and 13 digs. Sensenbrenner had a consistent match with 10 kills and nine blocks as she hit a .400 efficiency. USI’s setter, Thomas, dished out 49 assists, 14 digs, and six kills, hitting .600.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles tallied nine aces, led by OVC’s Defensive Player of the Week, Small, who added five, along with her 11 digs. Sensenbrenner tallied a career-high two aces, and Jankowski added two as well.
Next up for the Screaming Eagles is a trip south to Nashville to take on Tennessee State University on November 6 & 7. Fans can follow USI Athletics and usivolleyball on Instagram, X, and Facebook, and online at usiscreamingeagles.com for updates on the next series and the rest of the 2026 season.

VALPO VOLLEYBALL
Despite impressive performances on the attack Friday from Ava Helming (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) and Jessica Pickett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), the Valpo volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 27-25, 25-23) decision at Illinois State Friday evening.
How It Happened
Valpo only trailed once in the opening set, and that was just a one-point deficit at 5-4. But the Beacons only pushed their lead to as many as four points as the Redbirds stayed within striking distance.
Illinois State rallied to tie the score on three occasions late, at points 21, 22 and 23 — the latter creating a race to two. Valpo earned set point thanks to a kill by Helming, and took the 1-0 lead in the match as Maggie Uhwat (Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond Burton Community [Central Michigan]) recorded a kill.
The Beacons found themselves behind the eight-ball in the second set, as the Redbirds scored the first six points of the set. Valpo got no closer than four points the rest of the way as the match was evened at one set apiece.
It was a 4-0 start for the Beacons in set three, but Illinois State rallied to take a 7-6 lead — setting up a frame which featured 10 ties and five lead changes. It looked like Valpo was about to take control of the match when it earned set point at 24-22 before the Redbirds scored three in a row to turn the tables, and while the Beacons held off one ISU set point, the Redbirds took the next two points to win the set.
The first two-point lead in the fourth set, which contained 17 ties and eight lead changes, came as Illinois State turned a 17-16 Valpo lead into a 22-18 deficit. The Beacons responded with five of the next six points, a stretch which included two kills by Jordyn Gove (Amarillo, Texas/Randall) and capped by a kill from Kyla Bellich (Thomson, Ill./Prince of Peace Catholic), to make it a race to two at 23-23, but the Redbirds scored the next two to close out the match.
Inside the Match
Helming led the Beacons’ attack with 17 kills on 30 swings, committing just one attack error as she hit at a .533 clip. She added 11 digs as well for her eighth double-double of the year.
The junior tallied the 200th block of her collegiate career during Friday’s match and ended the contest just 12 kills away from becoming the 21st player in program history with 1,000 career kills.
For the second straight match, Pickett set a career best in the kills column, finishing Friday’s contest with 15 kills on just 28 swings, hitting at a .429 clip.
Gove notched 14 kills and 11 digs for her 14th double-double of the season.
Mia McCall (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) dished out a season-best 30 assists and posted a .545 setting percentage, while Olivia Wagner (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) tallied 28 assists.
Valpo dropped Friday’s match despite holding narrow edges of 62-60 in kills and .276-.270 in hitting percentage over the Redbirds. The Beacons have posted two of their three highest hitting percentages of the year in the two matches against ISU, but have lost both contests.
Next Up
Valpo (11-12, 3-8 MVC) closes out its swing through central Illinois with a 5 p.m. match Saturday at Bradley.
