MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYOFFS
THREE HOMERS SEND BRAVES PAST PHILLIES, INTO NLDS MATCHUP WITH DODGERS
ATLANTA — Michael Harris II, Ozzie Albies and Matt Olson homered and six Braves pitchers stifled the Philadelphia Phillies’ offense, allowing Atlanta to roll to a 6-2 victory in the decisive third game of a National League wild-card series Thursday evening.
The Braves scored all the runs they needed on Harris’ three-run first-inning homer off Aaron Nola (0-1), winning their first winner-take-all postseason game since Game 7 of the 1996 NL Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
It also snapped Atlanta’s six-game losing streak in elimination games that dated back to the 2018 NL Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Atlanta will face the Dodgers in a best-of-five NLDS starting on Saturday in Los Angeles.
“I told our guys, man, all year long when the stakes have been the highest, when the challenges have been the toughest, we’ve been at our absolute best,” Braves manager Walt Weiss said. “So it doesn’t surprise me that we played the way we did tonight.”
The Phillies’ losing streak in winner-take-all games was extended to four games, with their only such victory coming in the 1980 NLCS. The loss also snaps Philadelphia’s four-year streak of reaching at least the NLDS round.
Ray Kerr got the start for Atlanta as an opener, delivering 3 1/3 scoreless innings of one-hit work in his postseason debut. Grant Holmes (1-0) followed with his own postseason debut, giving up one run on two hits over two innings.
Robert Suarez, Didier Fuentes, Dylan Dodd and Game 1 starter Chris Sale combined to allow one run on three hits over the final 3 2/3 innings.
For Sale, who threw 6 1/3 innings on Tuesday, it was his first relief appearance since he closed out the 2018 World Series for the Boston Red Sox, aside from a bulk-relief appearance in 2025 during Charlie Morton’s Atlanta sendoff.
Sale struck out Bryce Harper to end the eighth, then worked a scoreless ninth.
“What a warrior, man. This guy — I’ve run out of superlatives for Chris Sale,” Weiss said. “Been talking about him all year. He’s one of the best I’ve ever been around. When you take everything into consideration, teammate, competitor, performer, work ethic, all those things, he’s as good as I’ve ever been around.”
The Braves scored first for the first time in the series when Harris lined a 2-0 sinker just over the right field fence after walks by Ronald Acuna Jr. and Olson, staking Atlanta to a 3-0 lead in the first.
“Obviously had to come through in this situation,” Harris said. “Runners on early on in the game, he got behind in the count, couldn’t really find the zone. Just found one pitch to put my best swing on and hopefully we got some runs out of it, and we did.”
Albies tacked on in the fourth when he smashed a 419-foot two-run homer to right off Zach Wheeler, extending the lead to 5-0.
The Phillies, after getting nothing out of a two-on, no-out scenario in the fifth, got onto the board in the sixth on Alec Bohm’s RBI groundout after Kyle Schwarber singled and Harper doubled.
Atlanta got the run back in the seventh on Olson’s solo homer.
Philadelphia’s Derek Hill hit a leadoff triple in the eighth, and Trea Turner’s sacrifice fly brought him home.
Both teams finished with six hits, but the Phillies went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
“We weren’t able to get anything going, and anytime we did, we weren’t able to extend it,” Phillies manager Don Mattingly lamented.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE DIVISION SERIES MATCHUPS
The Division Series matchups are set.
The White Sox swept the Astros to meet a familiar face in the division-rival Guardians, while the Yankees swept the Red Sox and will play the Rays in the ALDS. The Padres swept the Cubs to advance to the NLDS against the Brewers and the Braves took down the Phillies in three games to secure a matchup with the Dodgers.
Here’s a breakdown of the Division Series ahead of Saturday’s openers.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
(2) Guardians vs. (6) White Sox
Schedule
Game 1 (at CLE): Saturday, 1 p.m. ET/noon CT on TBS/truTV/UniMas/HBO Max
Game 2 (at CLE): Monday, 5 p.m. ET/4 CT on TBS/truTV/UniMas/HBO Max
Game 3 (at CWS): Wednesday, 4 p.m. ET/3 CT on TBS/truTV/UniMas/HBO Max
Game 4 (at CWS, if necessary): Thursday, 5 p.m. ET/4 CT on TBS/truTV/UniMas/HBO Max
Game 5 (at CLE, if necessary): Saturday, 5 p.m. ET/4 CT on TBS/truTV/UniMas/HBO Max
Season series: The White Sox held a narrow advantage in the head-to-head despite the Guardians walking away with the AL Central crown this season. Chicago won seven games to Cleveland’s six, but this matchup was about as close as it gets. Six games were decided by one run, and two went to extra innings. The Guardians won four of those nail-biters.
Postseason history: This will be the first playoff meeting between these teams.
Keys to the matchup: The long ball tends to win in the postseason. The White Sox hit a lot of them (211 home runs, fifth in MLB) in the regular season, and the Guardians didn’t (162, 27th). The additions of Jo Adell and Nathaniel Lowe at the Trade Deadline helped the Guardians move closer to the middle of the pack in the second half, though power is still not the club’s forte.
The Guardians do have an advantage on the mound, with one of the most stout rotations in the AL. Parker Messick, Gavin Williams and trade pickup Foster Griffin will need to keep the ball in the yard before turning things over to a bullpen headlined by All-Star Cade Smith.
Player to watch: José Ramírez. After needing surgery to repair a fractured left hamate bone in June, J-Ram didn’t look much like himself. He had just a .598 OPS with two home runs after the All-Star break. But it can take time to get right after a hamate surgery, so we’ll call the seven-time All-Star a “sleeping giant.” The Guardians will certainly need Ramírez to make a deep October run.
(1) Rays vs. (4) Yankees
Schedule
Game 1 (at TB): Saturday, 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 CT on TBS/truTV/UniMas/HBO Max
Game 2 (at TB): Monday, 8 p.m. ET/5 CT on TBS/truTV/UniMas/HBO Max
Game 3 (at NYY): Wednesday, 8 p.m. ET/7 CT on TBS/truTV/UniMas/HBO Max
Game 4 (at NYY, if necessary): Thursday, 8 p.m. ET/7 CT on TBS/truTV/UniMas/HBO Max

Game 5 (at TB, if necessary): Saturday, 8 p.m. ET/7 CT on TBS/truTV/UniMas/HBO Max
Player to watch: Luis García Jr., the Yankees’ major Trade Deadline pickup, will be a key part of this series. Acquired from the Nationals for right-hander Yovanny Cruz and two of New York’s top 30 prospects, García hit 30 home runs and drove in 92 runs during the regular season before homering to open the scoring in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series. He was particularly effective against right-handed pitching, slashing .283/.314/.551 with 27 dingers against righties in 2026. Whether Judge is back for the ALDS, García’s power bat will be a huge part of New York’s potent lineup, particularly against a righty-heavy Tampa Bay rotation.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
(1) Brewers vs. (4) Padres
Schedule
Game 1 (at MIL): Saturday, 8:30 p.m. ET on FOX/FS1/FOX Deportes/FOX One
Game 2 (at MIL): Sunday, 4 p.m. ET/3 CT on FS1/FOX Deportes/FOX One
Game 3 (at SD): Tuesday, 9:30 p.m. ET/8:30 CT on FOX/FS1/FOX Deportes/FOX One
Game 4 (at SD, if necessary): Wednesday, 10 p.m. ET/9 CT on FOX/FS1/FOX Deportes/FOX One
Game 5 (at MIL, if necessary): Friday, 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 CT on FOX/FS1/FOX Deportes/FOX One
Season series: The Padres took four of six games between the clubs during the regular season. The Brewers won two of three against San Diego at American Family Field from May 12-14, and the Padres swept Milwaukee at Petco Park from Aug. 10-12.
Postseason history: This will be the first postseason meeting between the two teams, each of which played its first season in 1969.
Keys to the matchup: Pitching and early scoring will be key. The Brewers have the game’s most electric starter, NL Cy Young Award frontrunner Jacob Misiorowski, and he’s followed by a strong No. 2 in Logan Henderson. Milwaukee also has a very good bullpen, one that is matched or exceeded by the Padres’ relief corps, which features the most dominant closer in the Majors, Mason Miller.
Games will get late early, and the team that scores first will have a major advantage. Led by Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego’s offense has been red-hot over the past month. The Crew’s lineup hasn’t been too shabby, either. Whichever club comes out of the gate with early runs could be the team that reaches the NL Championship Series.

Andre Szmyt booted a career-long 56-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining to lift the Cleveland Browns to a 27-24 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.
Deshaun Watson completed 24 of 33 passes for 268 yards, one touchdown and one interception as Cleveland stands 3-1 for the first time since 2021.
Jaleel McLaughlin and Quinshon Judkins rushed for touchdowns and Harold Fannin Jr. had a scoring catch for the Browns. Denzel Boston had 89 yards on four catches as Cleveland won its third straight game.
Grant Delpit and Denzel Ward had interceptions and the Browns sacked Aaron Rodgers five times. Delpit picked off Rodgers’ last throw with one second left to seal it.
Rodgers was 22-of-40 passing for 299 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for the Steelers (2-2). Jaylen Warren had 126 scrimmage yards (93 rushing, 33 receiving), DK Metcalf had five receptions for 115 yards and Roman Wilson, Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth had scoring receptions.

Rodgers drove Pittsburgh 80 yards on eight plays and hit Freiermuth on a 3-yard scoring pass with 1:42 left. Rodgers then converted the two-point conversion on a quarterback sneak to tie it at 24 with 1:42 remaining.
Watson then moved the Browns 36 yards on seven plays to set up Szmyt’s decisive kick.
Pittsburgh trailed by 11 entering the fourth quarter before Spears-Jennings helped flip the momentum with his interception at the Pittsburgh 23-yard line.
The Steelers responded by moving 77 yards on six plays. Rodgers hit Washington for a 21-yard scoring pass with 10:10 to play, but the two-point conversion failed, leaving Pittsburgh down 21-16.
Szmyt tacked on a 44-yard field goal with 6:37 remaining to boost the Cleveland lead to eight.
The first time Pittsburgh had the ball, it put together a 17-play, 78-yard drive that lasted 9:48. Wilson scored the touchdown on the jet sweep when Rodgers flipped the ball forward to him and he raced 12 yards with 2:59 left in the first.
Cleveland equaled the score in the second quarter when McLaughlin scored on a 28-yard run with 12:14 remaining. The Browns later moved ahead 14-7 when Judkins scored from the 2 with 8:28 left.
Cleveland stretched its lead to 14 when Watson tossed a 2-yard scoring pass to Fannin with 1:22 left. Pittsburgh’s Chris Boswell booted a 31-yard field goal with eight seconds left as the Steelers trailed 21-10 at the break.

REPORTS: JALEN DUREN RETURNING TO PISTONS ON 5-YEAR, $200M DEAL
All-NBA center Jalen Duren is returning to the Detroit Pistons on a fully guaranteed, five-year, $200 million contract, ESPN and The Athletic reported on Thursday.
Duren, 22, had been a restricted free agent.
The two sides had failed to broker a deal for months, with Detroit reportedly offering less in part due to dissatisfaction with Duren’s playoff performance last spring.
The first-time All-Star and All-NBA player saw his numbers sag to 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per playoff game. That came on the heels of his averaging a career-high 19.5 points with 10.5 rebounds over a regular season that resulted in the Pistons finishing with the Eastern Conference’s top record at 60-22.
Detroit lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals in seven games to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The organization reportedly offered Duren the same $200 million deal in recent days, but with the addition of a weight clause. The new agreement reportedly removed that clause.
A first-round choice (13th overall) in the 2022 draft, Duren has played his entire four-year career in Detroit.
He has career averages of 13.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

ZACH BAUCHOU FINISHES STRONG TO TAKE BANK OF UTAH LEAD
Zach Bauchou closed his bogey-free round with birdies at Nos. 17 and 18 to post a 9-under-par 62 and take the outright lead at the Bank of Utah Championship on Thursday in Ivins, Utah.
The PGA Tour rookie was part of a seven-way tie for the lead at 8 under when he two-putted for birdie at the par-5 finishing hole at Black Desert Resort. The 62 marked his career-best round on tour.
“You have a lot of long shots into the greens here,” said Bauchou, who led the field by making 17 of 18 greens in regulation. “You do have some reachable holes, and those are the holes you’re going to score on, but you have a lot of shots from 175 and 200 (yards), and it’s not always that easy to hit a 6- or a 7-iron on the green or even close to make a birdie. So that’s kind of where you’ve got to focus this week.”
Bauchou, 30, is not only hunting for his first PGA Tour title but also is aiming to maintain his tour card in the FedEx Cup Fall series. He entered the week No. 86 in the points standings and would rocket to No. 51 with a win.
The top 100 players at the end of the fall earn full status for 2027, and finishing Nos. 51-60 gets players into the first two signature events of next season.
“To be honest, I’m not a big goal-setter,” Bauchou said. “I just try to do the best I can every day, try to improve every day. I felt like I spent some time the last couple weeks reflecting on the season. Felt like I played pretty solid most of the year, just didn’t have that many high finishes. But like when I looked at my strokes gained, I was like 40th in strokes gained, which for being almost 90th on the FedEx Cup, that’s a pretty big disparity.
“Yeah, just try to improve when I’m home and know that I am actually playing probably better than what my results are.”
Nine players wound up tied one back at 63: David Lipsky, Steven Fisk, Kevin Roy, Kevin Streelman, Nick Dunlap, Austin Smotherman, Canadian Sudarshan Yellamaraju, Germany’s Stephan Jaeger and Englishman Jordan Smith, who holed out for albatross at No. 18 to finish 5 under over his last three holes.
Smith was 238 yards from the pin and watched his approach shot take one long bounce on the side of the green and track directly to the cup. He held his arms out in disbelief as he waited for confirmation that he had found the hole.
“It took a nice favorable bounce on the green and it sort of shot it towards the hole, but then it goes over a bit of a crest and we couldn’t see it, and then everyone was cheering, putting their arms up, so then we knew,” Smith said. “Yeah, pretty special.”
It tied him for the lead at the time and, according to the tour, marked the fifth albatross of the 2026 season.
Yellamaraju is a rookie like Bauchou, and also like Bauchou, he shot his career-low round with an eventful 63. He rallied after double-bogeying his second hole (No. 11) and recorded two eagles, the first at No. 18. The latter capped a hot streak on the front nine, in which he followed four straight birdies with an eagle at the par-5 seventh, where he sank a 13-foot putt.
“Perfect tee shot, perfect approach. Just a perfect putt. Again, three good shots, can’t ask for anything better than that,” Yellamaraju said.
South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Canadian Nick Taylor, fresh off competing in the Presidents Cup last week, opened the tournament with rounds of 7-under 64 and are tied with defending champion Michael Brennan, John VanDerLaan, Garrick Higgo of South Africa and Rico Hoey of the Philippines.
Joel Dahmen and Max Homa were part of a large tie for 17th at 6-under 65.
Jackson Koivun, the only member of the victorious U.S. Presidents Cup team who is back in action this week, carded a 2-under 69 and is tied for 65th.

A LIM KIM HOLDS 1-SHOT LEAD AFTER FIRST ROUND OF LOTTE CHAMPIONSHIP
South Korea’s A Lim Kim produced three consecutive birdies near the end of a bogey-free round, and she emerged with the lead after the first round of the Lotte Championship on Thursday in Honolulu.
A Lim Kim carded a 7-under-par 65 at Hoakalei Country Club, leaving her one shot ahead of China’s Yu Liu and South Korea’s Ina Yoon.
Auston Kim, Sweden’s Maja Stark, Thailand’s Chanettee Wannasaen and Jeeno Thitikul, Germany’s Polly Mack and China’s Michelle Zhang are tied for fourth at 67. A pack of 14 players share 10th place at 68.
A Lim Kim, 30, opened with a birdie and was 4 under through 14 holes despite variable weather conditions. She then birdied the par-3 15th hole and the par-4 16th and 17th holes before closing with a 5 on the par-5 18th.
“Trajectory for control and then putting (are) really important (on) this course because (it’s) very windy,” she said. “And then today, rain is back and forth, back and forth, so tough conditions. But it was really good play today, yeah.”
A Lim Kim is looking for her fourth career LPGA win, with her most recent victory coming last year at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Orlando. She owns one major title, as she captured the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open in her first appearance at an LPGA major.
Liu also completed a bogey-free round, beginning with a birdie on the par-4 10th hole and closing with a birdie on the par-3 ninth.
“It was definitely (a) very challenging course, especially with the windy condition, but I felt like today the wind didn’t (get) too strong, which is on the friendly side,” Liu said. “So I felt like I was able to score, make some good scores out of the calmer conditions.”
Yoon was 7 under par through 12 holes, but she made her lone bogey of the day at the par-4 sixth.
“I made a lot of like mid-range putts today,” Yoon said. “Was so good. My (first) nine was really solid. … I made five birdies and a little bit of mistake on the back, but I recovered OK so it was fun.”
Asked about playing in the wind, Yoon said, “I feel like I’m kind of getting used to it because, yeah, I played Scotland golf and AIG and kind of got used to (it). Try to hit it low, and (the greens were a) little soft, so even (if) I hit the low shot, (the) ball kind of stops quick, so it was cool.”
Defending champion Youmin Hwang of South Korea opened with an even-par 72, tied for 74th.

TOP INDIANA PRESS RELEASES/HEADLINESINDIANA’S BIG GAMES WEEK 7
INDIANA SRN SCHEDULE
SOUTHPORT AT MT. VERNON….Both teams are 2-4, both teams struggle scoring points, and both teams have trouble stopping their opponents. The Cardinals are hoping for a turnaround looking for their first winning season 2019. Southport needs a better running game averaging less than 100 yards per game. Overall, Southport is at just over 200 yards of total offense per game. Mt. Vernon is hoping QB Mason Meyer is struggling with just six touchdowns and eight interceptions. Meyer does have five rushing scores.
Harrell’s prediction: Mt. Vernon 42-10.
##############
RITTER AT COVENANT CHRISTIAN…..The Raiders are 3-3, The Warriors are 4-2. Ritter has won 3 of 4 thanks to QB Jaydyn Graham (1,070 yards, 8TD, 2INT). They can spread the field with WR’s Jordyn Graham (23.5 yards per reception), and Tavien Fox (21.9 yards per catch). The Warriors are coming off a 42-7 loss at Lutheran. Until the 42 given up last week, the Warriors defense hadn’t allowed more than 14 points in any game this season. Expect the defense to be ready to rebound this week led by Jayce Sibert (8.8 tackles per game, 8.0 TFL). Overall the Warriors defense has 41 TFL, 10 sacks, and 5 INT’s.
Harrell’s prediction: Ritter 38-17.
##############
LAWRENCE NORTH 5-1 AT WARREN CENTRAL 6-0….This is one one of the high profile games to watch this week. The Warriors have won 36 of the last 49 match-ups. So, how does LN break through? The Wildcats have a high powered offense led by JR. QB Darian Prather (195.8 passing yards per game, and 13 TD’s, 400 rushing yards, 4 TD’s). The running game is led by Izayveon Moore (115.6ypg, 9 TD’s). LN’s lone loss came at the hands of Brownsburg 48-25. The Wildcats have hit the 50 point plateau twice in the last three weeks. The Warriors have been dominant on defense the last three weeks allowing just 15 total points in wins over Lawrence Central, Ben Davis, and Pike. QB Anthony Dennison has had a great senior season throwing for over 1,200 yards with 13 TD’s and 0 INT’S. RB Keyon Thomas gives the offense balance (146.8YPG). On defense, Edge Sean Fox leads the team in TPG (9.2), TFL’s (12.5), and sacks (7.5). The Warriors get to opposing QB’s on a regular basis with 21 sacks. This will be a fun one to watch Friday.
Harrell’s prediction: LN 38-28.
###############
AVON 5-1 AT WESTFIELD 5-1….This is the second biggest game for the Orioles, and both will have been road games (lost at Brownsburg 49-7). Avons loves to run the football (214.8 yards per game), led by Andre Warfield II (131.8). Westfield is unbeaten at home this season averaging 40 PPG. The OL is huge and that opens up big holes for over 200 yards per game on the ground. QB Cooper Melvin is having a solid season throwing for over 1,110 yards and seven scores.
Harrell’s prediction: Westfield 38-21.
###############
BROWNSBURG 5-0 AT ZIONSVILLE 5-1
The Bulldogs are primed for a third straight 6A state title after handling Westfield (again) last week 38-14. QB Oscar Frye is the leading Mr. Football candidate and his numbers show why. 1,198 yards, 69% completions, 17TD, 1INT. The Eagles are starting to pick things up on offense averaging 30ppg over the last three weeks (all wins). QB Finn Giles is getting better and better, and TE’s Theo Schott and Tyson McCann are his favorite targets along with WR Nic Hoggs.
Harrell’s prediction: Brownsburg 56-0.
################
COLUMBIA CITY 5-1 AT EAST NOBLE 6-0….The Eagles are on a 4 game winning streak after beating New Haven 48-6. Running the football is the key, averaging 385 yards per game. Lucan Ducan (135.2), and Noah Geiger (125.0) have combined for 23 touchdowns. The Eagles defense has been dominant at times with 62 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and 8 interceptions. East Noble has a championship style defense, especially over the last two weeks in wins over Leo, and Norwell. The Knights may be more balanced on offense (108.5 passing yards per game, 225.5 rushing yards per game). RB Austin Phillips averages 7.6 YPC, and has scored 8 rushing TD’s.
Harrell’s prediction: East Noble 31-28.
#################
EVANSVILLE REITZ 6-0 AT EVANSVILLE MEMORIAL 6-0…A battle of unbeatens. The Panthers have a high-octane offense averaging 45ppg, and they love the ground game (251.7 yards per game). Sophomore RB Amyr Wilford is tearing up opposing defenses at 178.5 yards per game, and has 15 TD’s. QB Hunter Moers is solid with 11 TD passes. The Tigers are just as good on both sides of the football averaging 42.8ppg on offense, and allowing just 13.2ppg on defense. Memorial relies on balance averaging 172.2 passing yards, and 151.8 rushing. SR. QB Luke Brown leads the way completing 64% of his passes with 11 TD’s and just 2 INT’S. Greyson Carter leads the defense averaging 9.7 TPG with 7.0 TFL’s. JR. Sam Merkel is another force on defense (8.5 TPG, 7.0 TFL).
Harrell’s prediction: Reitz 35-31.
#################
NEW PALESTINE 5-1 AT RONCALLI 4-2…The Dragons have been on a roll since losing to East Central in game two of the season. Since then the Dragons have scored 42, 49, 38, and 50 over the last four games. Stopping the running game will be hard for anyone this season (the Dragons average 253.8 yards per game). QB Rhys Regan averages 169.7 YPG. completing 65% of his passes. The Royals have won three straight, including a shutout at Brebeuf 25-0. Roncalli doesn’t produce the points they will need to if they plan on beating NP (the Royals average just 22.7ppg). Running the football will be the key averaging 192YPG.
Harrell’s prediction: NP 28-21
#################
LAPEL 6-0 AT EASTERN HANCOCK 6-0…The Bulldogs are 6-0 thanks to a dominating offense, and an equally dominating defense. Lapel averages almost 46ppg thanks to a balanced offense (220.2 passing yards per game, 198.3 rushing). QB Max Lockhart has 19 TD passes without throwing an interception. RB Jack Miller has 12 rushing TD’s (and averages 124.8YPG). The Bulldogs defense has 13.5 sacks, and 47 TFL’s. Even with those numbers, Eastern Hancock’s are better. The Royals are clipping alone at 52.7PPG on offense, allowing just 6.2PPG. Want to talk about balance? The Royals average 230.8 passing yards (QB Matt Hunt 64% completions, 20 TD’s), and 251.3 rushing yards. The only knock against Hunt is nine interceptions. As for the defense, The Royals enter Friday’s game with 16 sacks, 68.5 TFL’s, and eight INT’S. Taylor Conley averages 11.2TPG, has 9.5TFL’s, Brennon Trueblood has 16.0TFL’s.

INDIANA FEVER
LAS VEGAS (Oct. 1, 2026) — The No. 6 Indiana Fever suffered a 94-83 loss in Game 3 of the First Round in the 2026 WNBA Playoffs to No. 3 Las Vegas Aces, ending the team’s 2026 season.
A tightly contested first quarter saw the two sides tied at 31 apiece, with the Fever’s trio of Aliyah Boston, Cailtin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell combining for 26 points through the first 10 minutes. The teams continued to trade baskets back and forth through much of the second quarter, but the Aces were able to take a lead near the end, in front 54-48 at the halftime break.
The Fever outscored the Aces 17-16 in the third quarter to make it a two-possession game with one quarter remaining, led by five points from Boston and Mitchell each. Indiana was able to pull within two points with 2:15 remaining, but the Fever were unable to complete the comeback and saw their season come to a close.
Indiana Fever Notes:
Aliyah Boston earned her seventh career playoff double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, tying Erlana Larkins for the second most in postseason Fever history, doing so in just her 13th game a feat which took Larkins 31 games to do.
Myisha Hines-Allen recorded her first career double-double in the postseason and her 22nd overall with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
With 19 points scored, Aliyah Boston moved past Marissa Coleman (185) for the ninth most playoff points in franchise history, with 192 total points in 13 games.

INDIANA VOLLEYBALL
MADISON, Wis. – There was no shortage of fight from head coach Steve Aird’s squad on the road.
In one of the toughest environments in the country, the Indiana volleyball team (9-3, 2-1 B1G) came just short of completing the biggest reverse sweep in program history. Sixth-ranked Wisconsin picked up the momentum in set five to take a 3-2 victory (25-19, 25-14, 22-25, 20-25, 15-8) on Thursday (Oct. 1) evening in Madison.
IU hadn’t won multiple sets against the Badgers since the team’s last win in 2012. In front of nearly 7,000 fans, the Hoosiers proved they belong on the national stage. It’s the first time that IU has taken a top-10 team to the fifth set on the road since a victory over No. 5 Ohio State in 2022 (W, 3-2). All three of the Hoosiers’ losses this year are to teams currently ranked in the top 11 of the national poll.
Behind a career high 54 assists from second-year setter Teodora Krickovic, IU’s offense came to life after a slow start. The Hoosiers hit .353 in the fourth frame and committed five-or-fewer attacking errors in the final four sets of the match. Fifth-year opposite hitter Avry Tatum and second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager shared the team lead with 16 kills. First-year outside hitter Sara Snowbarger added a career high 11 kills.
Even after moving to the bench last week, second-year middle blocker Victoria Gray was ready when her number was called. She started the final four sets of the match and contributed eight kills with zero errors on a .571 hitting percentage. Her counterpart, third-year middle blocker Ella Boersema, added eight kills and two blocks. Fifth-year middle blocker Kiki Granberry led the team with three blocks, all in the first set.
IU was extra aggressive from the end line as it tried to disrupt Wisconsin’s potent offense. Tatum contributed a career high four aces. Boersema added three aces from her patented jump serve. In the end, a major discrepancy in service errors (14-3) became too much to overcome.
Jager contributed the 10th double-double of her career with 16 kills and 10 digs. Second-year libero Hannah Leftridge led the charge with 15 digs. Five different players had at least five digs as IU’s gritty defense started to shine late in the match. Krickovic finished the night with eight digs and four kills.
The Hoosiers will fly to New Jersey tomorrow as they prepare for a Sunday (Oct. 4) afternoon contest at Rutgers. First serve from Jersey Mike’s Arena is set for 2 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network as the program goes for its 10th win of the season. Jason Knapp and Allie Sczech will have the call.
How it Happened
• The ability to side out was the key to winning Thursday’s match. IU was above 60% in each of the two sets it won while Wisconsin rose above 70 to win three of the five games and the contest itself. On top of that, Wisconsin hit at an efficient .302 clip through the night while IU racked up 28 attacking errors.
• Even with a valiant effort from the back row, Wisconsin nudged IU in the defensive battle. The Badgers had more blocks (10.0-6.0) and digs (56-51) behind 16 digs from libero Anna Bardaro and six blocks from middle blocker Lynney Tarnow.

Notes to Know
• Second-year setter Teodora Krickovic helped run a balanced offense for the Hoosiers on Thursday evening. She recorded a career high 54 assists while getting all five primary attackers at least eight kills. She set first-year outside hitter Sara Snowbarger to a career high 11 kills and second-year middle blocker Victoria Gray to an efficient .571 hitting percentage.
• Second-year outside hitter Jaidyn Jager and fifth-year opposite hitter Avry Tatum each shared the team lead with 16 kills in the five-set battle at Wisconsin. Jager has gone for double-digit kills in 10 of the 12 matches this season and has reached 15 in five of them. Tatum has combined for 26 kills in her first two matches back.
• IU turned up the service pressure on Thursday night to the tune of eight aces. It’s the seventh game this season that the Hoosiers have had at least eight points from the end line. Tatum (4) and third-year middle blocker Ella Boersema (3) each had a career high in aces.

INDIANA MEN’S SOCCER
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Unbeaten, No. 2-ranked Indiana (8-0-2, 3-0-1 B1G) welcomes perhaps its greatest test yet. Maryland – ranked as high as No. 4 in the national polls – comes to town, setting up Friday (Oct. 2) night’s top-five matchup on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Fans unable to attend the match can watch via the Big Ten Network.
Friday is Student Appreciation Night. IU Soccer wants to thank Hoosier Army – the best student section in college soccer – for its relentless support with free pizza for students that arrive early, while supplies last. As always, IU students and faculty/staff get in free.
At halftime, Indiana men’s soccer will honor three of its trailblazing teams: the 1974, 1975 and 1976 squads. The three squads combined for 45 victories in 54 matches and earned IU’s first appearances in the NCAA Tournament (1974), College Cup (1976) and national championship match (1976).
KICKING OFF
• Indiana played its first two ranked matches in late September, earning a win and a draw. The Hoosiers beat No. 16 Washington at home, 1-0 – becoming the first team to shut out the Huskies this season – and drew with Wisconsin, 1-1, in Madison.
• Friday’s marks the second match of a four-match homestand. IU is 7-0-0 at Bill Armstrong Stadium this season thanks to its loyal fanbase, which has managed a 3,756 average attendance.
• Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley and Maryland’s Sasho Cirovski are the Big Ten’s two greatest coaches outside Jerry Yeagley. No coach has won more matches in Big Ten play than Todd Yeagley (78), while Cirovski ranks third behind the Yeagleys in both No. of wins (54) and winning percentage (.631).
• IU’s defensive performances have told the story of its unbeaten start, as the Hoosiers rank top of the Big Ten and tied-for-second nationally in goals against average (.500). Goalkeeper Michal Mroz leads the Big Ten in every major goalkeeping category.
• Indiana forward Stephane Njike has totaled five G/A in five games after assisting both goals in last Friday’s 2-1 victory over Penn State. s
ABOUT THE TERRAPINS
• At 6-1-1, Maryland ranks all over the place in this week’s national polls: No. 6 in United Soccer Coaches, No. 12 in Top Drawer Soccer and its highest rating at No. 4 from College Soccer News.
• Four Terrapins have combined for six Big Ten weekly awards this season.
• Said El Eyssami and Rodrigo Neri lead the team with four goals and nine points each.
• Maryland has scored 16 goals through eight matches (2.0 per game) and allowed 14 (1.8 per match).
• Head coach Sasho Cirovksi leads Maryland in his 34th season, boasting a 457-181-77 record during his time in College Park. Over 36 seasons as a head coach, he owns a 483-193-83 career record.
SERIES HISTORY
• Since it joined the Big Ten Conference in 2014, Maryland has challenged IU as the second-winningest program in the conference in that span, by percentage (.707 to .631).
• In that stretch, Indiana boasts a 64-21-19 league record, has totaled 213 points in conference regular season play and has won nine Big Ten Championships. Maryland ranks second in all three categories with a 54-27-22 mark, 184 points and seven titles.
• Head-to-head, Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski has a two-game advantage on IU’s Todd Yeagley. Since 2014, the Terps have six victories to Indiana’s five, and seven more matches have ended in a draw or penalty shootout.
• The last five meetings have been decided by one goal or a draw, and the teams are split in that span (Both 2-2-1).

IU INDY WOMEN’S SOCCER
CLEVELAND – The IU Indianapolis women’s soccer team fell on the road at Cleveland State on Thursday night (Oct. 1), 1-0, on a Viking second half goal. Offensively, the Jaguars generated 20 shots, including seven on goal, and held Cleveland St. to 12 shots, to no avail. It marked a third straight game with at least 20 shot attempts, but the Jags were shut out for just the fourth time this season and first time in Horizon League play.
Cleveland State (2-8-1, 2-1-1 HL) got the winner off the boot of Elise Boyd in the 65th minute as she belted a shot off the underside of the crossbar and over the line for the evening’s only offense. CSU thought they had taken an early lead in the game’s 12th minute, but Cortlyn Hefty’s apparent goal was nullified due to an offsides call.
After a slow start, IU Indy (3-7-2, 1-3 HL) was feisty throughout, continually gaining possession in the attacking end. However, more attempts were muddled than put on frame, leading a frustrating outcome in the first league road match of the campaign.
Sophomore Anika Guenther was a primary attacking piece in the second half, stretching the field with her speed off the bench. In the final 10 minutes, the Jaguars had golden opportunities, initially when Madeline Chappa was awarded a free kick at the top of the 18 in the 83rd minute. After her restart was recycled, Olivia Hopper got in behind the CSU defense, but had her shot roll harmlessly wide of target. Less than a minute later, Chappa had a brilliant strike from the right side hit the crossbar and carom back onto the field of play.
Chappa had a team-high four shot attempts while Caroline Kelley and Maci Sammons had three apiece. Sophomore Isabel Oferosky finished with five saves in suffering her first defeat of the season.
Up next, the Jags will visit Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.

BALL STATE WOMEN’S SOCCER
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State soccer team fell to Eastern Michigan 1-0 on Thursday afternoon in a Mid-American Conference matchup at the Briner Sports Complex.
Ball State (3-5-3, 0-2-2 MAC) had both Annika Klauss and Caiya Clemons credited with a shot in the contest.
The visiting Eagles (5-1-4, 3-0-1 MAC) booted the lone goal in the 43rd minute for the winning decision. Annalyse Bauer found the back of the net off an assist by Rosalie Takacsy.
Goalkeeper Kate Pallante made four saves in the match in the backline. LG Moncrief, Audrey Goodyear, Ainsley Schaufele, Grier Isaacson and Jordyn Klaasen joined Pallante as Ball State student-athletes to go the full 90 minutes.
The Eagles outshot the Cardinals 8-2 and led in corners (5-2), while also being whistled for more fouls (12-6).
The Cardinals will travel to Akron on Sunday to take on the Zips at 1 p.m.

PURDUE FT. WAYNE WOMEN’S SOCCER
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne women’s soccer team battled Northern Illinois to a scoreless draw on Thursday (Oct. 1) at the Hefner Soccer Complex.

Purdue Fort Wayne and Northern Illinois battled for chances throughout the first 45 minutes, but neither team could find the back of the net. Abraham continued to keep Northern Illinois scoreless in the second half, making six saves to finish with seven on the night to earn her first collegiate clean sheet.
Mary McArdle and Rhyner each recorded a shot for the Mastodons.
Purdue Fort Wayne moves to 1-8-2 overall and 0-3-1 in Horizon League play. Northern Illinois moves to 2-5-3 overall and 1-2-1 in league action.
